USMum27 · 14/07/2010 13:01

(I just had a very naughty, giant cup of coffee and now the LO is doing a jig - serves me right )

cazzybabs · 14/07/2010 13:05

I have always opted for the injection of vit K...on the grounds that an injection only lasts a few seconds and if you breastfeed whilst they have it honsetly they don't notice it and TBH neither will you. Personally whilst I am happy to opt out of things for me things that affect the health of the baby I go with..

cazzybabs · 14/07/2010 13:14

ohh and my TENS machine came today .

And dd3 has done lots of wees in the potty and so far none on the floor - HORRAH!!!!!

House complete mess and still trying to find the energy to vacuum,

cazzybabs · 14/07/2010 13:19

My advice for hospital bag - music if you like (I have never bothered)

and a pint glass for water as I get really realy thirsty breastfeeding.

And clealy don't plan on wearing any white bottoms

Ohh and for home I had some of those disposible changing mats to sit on when breastfeeding as I did bleed quite heavily afterwards (sorry if TMI)

ElusiveMoose · 14/07/2010 13:25

Hurrah, someone's just used my Graze code and I get £1 off my next box! So keep it coming, ladies - having just wolfed down my brazil nuts and chocolate buttons (on the basis that chocolate isn't ideal in labour ) I fear I might become addicted....

pamplem0usse · 14/07/2010 13:30

OK now mucho annoyed. It's 1.30, which in no-one's book constitutes 'late morning'. I've finally had my lunch, having held off because I thought that she'd turn up as soon as I did... I've text to ask where she is. But nothing.

I'm supposed to be having an afternoon out with my MIL, husband's cousin and her little girl and will be very peeved if I can't because of this ridiculousness.

cazzybabs · 14/07/2010 13:36

pamplem0usse - I think we may share the same midwife . Mine does this too...I think they are just over worked

pamplem0usse · 14/07/2010 13:59

Hmph,,,, it's a pain in the bum isn't it cazzy?! I wouldn't mind but this lady is my replacement midwife as my initial one was totally inept (even my usually placid-and-likes-everyone husband was desperate for me to get someone more capable....)
It was then insisted that I have my appointments from home. On the first two she said afternoon and then didn't turn up until nearly six.... which was just about within the realms of reasonableness. But 2pm for a 'late morning' appointment, with no response to my call/text is not. Especially given I've only had two days notice and kept virtually my whole week free until she decided when she could come (ignoring about six phone calls / texts last week where I practically begged her to make proper arrangements so that I could plan the rest of my week)..... because last week, when i was supposed to see her, she gave me 36 hours notice of the one half day she could do.
Sorry for the rant ladies.... actually feeling quite teary.

Alicetheinvisible · 14/07/2010 14:12

Pample it is rubbish. I totally understand the whole being teary thing. This person is responsible for your antenatal care and if they can't even get to your house on time (or call) then it doesn't give you much reassurance. My MW has been fine for times, but feel a bit uneasy having her because of friends experiences. Can you phone the MW on call/Dr surgery (not sure how your MW's work)

WRT the jabs for babies, i personally feel it would be more stressful having drops forced down which may make you sick than a quick jab. Just personal preference though isn't it

Walked to playgroup this morning (about 10min walk) completely knackered me. I can muck my two horses out, but cannot walk anywhere without being completely shattered and sick feeling.

pamplem0usse · 14/07/2010 14:37

OK so she's not coming..... apparently had to deal with a breach home birth.... finding it hard to be in any way sympathetic as all she's been able to say is that she 'might' be able to have someone see me tomorrow (but I have to stay in all day to see) haven't got this mystery person's number and no clue what's going to happen when she's on holiday for a fortnight in August....
And it's a month already since my last appointment.....

I'm all for the jab too, if we're showing our hands. It'll be over in an instant and it's the best most of delivery. I think sometimes it's very easy to be a bit overly suspicious as to the motivations of the medical profession (she says before going in hunt for a large bar of chocolate to console herself about the midwife's no-show!)

Alicetheinvisible · 14/07/2010 14:40

Pample understand she was busy, but it is not on you not getting seen/getting appointments.

LCRLCR · 14/07/2010 15:46

I've used the graze code now too - thanks heaps elusive!

Guess what - one of my NCT girlies, who is not due until August 22 has GONE INTO LABOUR! OMG, note to self - get car seat out of loft and start carrying notes around! (they live in the kitchen as I lost them once)

Alicetheinvisible · 14/07/2010 15:58

LCR i only take my notes with me if seeing the MW or going a fair distance from my house.

Been getting a lot of BH the last few days and backache, but think it is due to weight of bump as it is worse at the end of the day.

Poncherello · 14/07/2010 16:03

LCRLCR 22nd August! That's my due date too! Noooooo! Not ready! I've just started clearing out my very first cupboard and within seconds of starting looking at the computer and seeing who's about on MN!

Aussieng · 14/07/2010 16:04

Hi everyone. Officially less than one week now to my due date but I'm hoping for a non-tricksy baby Chulita who will hang on in there for a few more days. Have house guests at the moment and want them gone before labour starts. I am having some mild cramping now but lo is still v v active (and head butting me down there so I have sympathies with you ladies who are experiencing the same thing).

I'd like to add my thank to those who have organised Caz's rose and the relatd funds etc. That was a lovely message.

MrsZ - I'm really sorry to hear about your Nan. What awful timing but hopefully soon you will have your LO and the whole circle of life thing will be of comfort to you.

With regard to Vit K - here is one going against the grain. We are going for oral (possibly unless we have a traumatic delivery). Oral is recommended in Australia, Germany, Netherlands and Denmark - all countries whose health care policies I have more faith in than the UK's let's do the cheapest simplest approach (sorry). The oral dose now is proven to be as effective as the injection with no lingering doubts about other effects and if babies in those countries were routinely sicking up their oral does thus making it ineffective etc I suspect we would have heard.

Pample - what is with your MW? And why does she come to your home out of interest - never been any suggestion of my MW coming to my house (thank god given the disaster area it currently is)?

Want the sunshine back please - I want a baby born in sunshine!

Nursery furniture being delivered tomorrow. Finally!

neenz · 14/07/2010 16:14

MrsZac, my twins had vitamin k orally and I'll give this baby it orally too. Not because of the pain cos I agree with others that they won't really notice that (I have never been bothered by them having jabs tho - they only cry for a few seconds!), only cos I read that it is safer to give it orally.

There was a link suspected between the jab and childhood cancers but even if there is a risk it is a very small risk and I would have the jab anyway if oral wasn't available. It should be available tho if you want it - they just need to be told so they can get a prescription. Push for it if you want it but don't worry too much if your LO gets the jab.

The DTs didn't vomit it back up btw. And if you BF your baby will get Vit K anyway - we have evolved over millions of years to be able to give our babies everything they need!

neenz · 14/07/2010 16:27

Had my mw appt yesterday to check my glucose (last week I was +3 and getting threatened with glucose tolerance test). Well it was clear and the baby is fixed (which she said wasn't such a big deal in a second pregnancy cos it could come free again!) but all very exciting!

Got the homebirth team coming on Saturday to check the house out and drop their stuff off - and on week Friday (37wks) I am on call for the hb team .

Really hope this baby comes quickly

thedogwalker · 14/07/2010 16:34

Pample, I feel for you. I had the same on monday when the HV never turned up, a phonecall is all it takes!!! I'm sure they think we have nothing better to do.

Aussie I live in Germany and I have no option but to have the vit k given orally. If bottle feeding then the LO gets the dose on day 1. If breastfeeding they give it in 3 doses, day 1, day 4 and day 30. There was no mention of it being brought back up as it is a tiny amount of fluid. The Germans are quite forward in their birthing options, i.e I can have aromatherapy and acupuncture as part of my pain relief, all labour rooms come with dimmed lighting and they fully support active birthing.

I'm completely knackered today, I've done nothing but laze around. I just cannot find any energy. It's in the high 30s again here and I'm suffering, plus DH away again so nobody to moan at or ask him to do things for me. Hope I have more engery tomorrow.

Hope everyone is okay

neenz · 14/07/2010 16:55

dogwalker, that's so exciting about acupuncture for pain relief during labour! I was shocked reading Ina May that in the US they don't even offer gas and air, you have to go straight for the pethidine/morphine/epidural. I think that is a shame - I had just g&a with the twins but I really needed it, I could not have coped without it and would have had to go for drugs if there was no g&a, which I really didn't want.

pamplem0usse · 14/07/2010 20:29

neenz I think the vit k injection - leukemia research has been widely discredited in medical journals now.... it was pretty shoddily carried out.....

Aussie my midwife comes to the house because after I sacked the first one (who made all manner of mistakes in my notes, left a trainee to it for 2/3 appointments and seems to think the gestatation period of a human child is 52 weeks given the bloods form she filled out for me) I was basically told that it was the only option. My surgery only has one midwife (the sacked one) and I was pretty much told that transferring to another surgery (to get a different midwife) was ridiculous and that this would be a much better option. Only my appointments seem to come last on their to do list.....

Anyway sorry to winge....

I had a proper old sob earlier. First because of the midwife thing, and second because when my husband's cousin and MIL came to pick me up a white van driver who was pulled in to the side of the road, allowing them to get past, was massively rude to me. Fair enough it's a narrow street and he'd done them a favour and they didn't wave (probably because DH's cousin had a screaming one year old in the back and didn't know where she was going really).... felt the need to wind down his window and tell me what a 'f*ing rude bitch' she was (she was at the top of the street turning around). Clearly at 8 months pregnant I really needed that.

Nikalah · 14/07/2010 21:01

kcoffin My doc prescribed me omeprazole 20mg for the heartburn and acid.... which was making me cough, sick and nauseous. It has really worked for me.

Not sure if that's what you've already tried. Hope you feel better soon, I was getting really down with it all + hurt a rib coughing so much!

kcoffin27 · 14/07/2010 21:19

nikalh sorry to hear you also suffered the dreaded heartburn. No I havent tried omeprazole, I was perscribed peptec (think thats what its called) but that only works for 30 mins

pamplemouse hope you feel better after your sob I also had a good cry on monday, but I had no reason to and didnt even know what I was crying for. Must of been the hormones

One of my friends who was due in nearly 3 weeks has just had her baby an slightly jealous it wasnt me having mine

Wonder who will be doing the night shift tonight? I will leave on the table a plate of muffins

weehector · 14/07/2010 23:05

In 1hr I'm 37 weeks and can hopefully go straight to the MLU when I go into labour now. I haven't worked out my daily stats yet though

Just home from hypnobirthing at the hospital. It seems to be working as I actually get excited about going & it all seems to make perfect sense for us. V glad I managed to secure one of the places - only 1% of mums to be in our area get on the course (4places per month) and there's a waiting list. So I'm pissed off on behalf of the NHS & the lovely MWs running it that one couple dropped out this month after last week's session because 'it seemed too much like hard work'. How the hell is she going to get on in labour if she thinks a couple of classes are tough going.

Using my new found PMA to hope that tonight's night shift isn't mine. No sleep at all last night or this morning so I'm approaching about 30hrs without sleep. Feel relaxed after tonight but have been so tired today I could cry. It really is torture as I've always been brilliant at sleeping.

babyducky · 15/07/2010 04:38

Grrrr it's me tonight, thanks for the muffins k coffin

I've been awake about an hour with period kind of pains & back ache, had it on & off all day yesterday too, dh will be working about 4 hours drive away today so I'm a bit worried in case anythings starting, I'm going to have a bath, see if it eases off.

Hope everyones well x

Alicetheinvisible · 15/07/2010 07:53

Morning

Babyducky i could have written your post! Are you me?

Took some paracetamol last night as was in a fair bit of discomfort. Really bad night, cramps and a lot of tightenings, some that woke me up, but no worse this morning, just the same. Also had a helicopter hovering around the area for about an hour - very loud, DD woke up asking for chocolate milk about 3ish and DH was up at 5.45am to work at the other side of the country for the day. Fun.

Was planning on phoning the MW but think i will see how i go.

Hope everyone has a good day
