Emster30 · 13/07/2010 14:11

Yes, it was lovely to cuddle up to my DH in bed last night - it has been too hot to do that for ages!

Difficult one re sweets for labour - I would suggest packing both Percy Pigs and Tangfastics. Depends if you can leave them unopened until labour though...

I just went to Holland and Barrett and bought some dried apricots and some yoghurt coated raisins as labour snacks, but will need some refined sugar too! I also got some little cartons of fruit juice to pack.

Sorry to hear about the dislocated thumb Marzipan - ouch!

cazzybabs · 13/07/2010 14:25

weehector- i HAVE ALWAYS FOUND IT doesn't count if it someone else's pims..

cazzybabs · 13/07/2010 14:26

I have also been a really bad mother today...I am so tired! I have read countless stories, dozed, let the girls make a mess and play on the computer...must make an effort to go to the park at least

Chulita · 13/07/2010 15:04

cazzy DD watches so much Cbeebies at the mo it's embarrassing. I wake up singing ridiculous theme tunes though so I'm doing my penance! I think we can be forgiven for being bad mothers at the mo!

Ooh, dried fruit's a good idea. I should get some tangfastics too though

DH's posting order came through at last so we know where we're going (as long as there are no last minute changes) ... now to get through the next few weeks.

soontobefatnat mil's coming tonight and she's staying til my mum gets here so there will be someone else here, just not DH which sucks but at least in this country we have paternity leave (even if he has to take it in a month or so's time) It's going to be a tricky few weeks but we'll manage, my mum's very hands-on which is good!

Alicetheinvisible · 13/07/2010 15:05

Cazzy don't worry, we were going to go to toddler group today but i used the flimsiest(sp?) excuse not to go (DD we are not going because you will not eat your breakfast ) DD is still only wearing a vest and a nappy (she wanted to wear knickers this morning, so no point dressing her) But surprisingly she has watched very little telly and been very happy playing by herself (and getting every toy she owns out)

I don't think of it as bad mothering, i think of it as getting them to use their iniative

Also managed a whole hour uninterrupted nap as DH was home for lunch - bliss!

Emster that is very virtuous! I can imagine asking DH to get me a burger king from the food court! Last time while in early labour we went for all you can eat chinese - i was having cx every 7mins

thedogwalker · 13/07/2010 15:17

Hello everyone.

Well after the disappointment / annoyance of the HV not turning up yesterday, today I've had a good day. Had a check with the MW and my LO is already 3/5 engaged, and I've still 33 days til due date. Knew there would be some reason as to the new pelic discomfort I've been feeling. We went through my Birth Plan and she was happy with that. So now it's just a waiting game. Oh I hope he hurries up as I cannot wait to meet him

WRT sweets etc, I've packed some cereal type bars. Been told that the first poo after birth can be quite painful so was hoping the extra fibre might help . Plus packed gummy bears just to chew on and lots of bottles of lucozade for the energy. What is everyone else packing?

cazzybabs You're not being a bad mother, it's normal to feel this tired late on in pregnancy, don't be too hard on yourself.

Hope everyone is well today, ta ta for now

LizzieA · 13/07/2010 19:20

Help!

In my usual organised style I haven't done my homework.

Could any of you lovely ladies share your lists?

I finish work on Friday and need to do a huge shopping trip. I am without a clue when it comes to the hospital bag and I'm also in a panic that I've forgotten baby basics for the nursery. I know we discussed our lists months ago, but I can't remember when and we've all chatted far too much since for me to find them. I'm not that bad that I've not bought the pram, crib etc but I'm starting to think I've forgotten something small.

Thank you in anticipation and I'll let you all share my sweets at break time if you do let me copy your homework

kcoffin27 · 13/07/2010 19:21

Hi all, sorry havent posted for a while been very busy.

Im in constant pain and on the verge of being sick from the pain of heartburn. Im 37 weeks now and was hopeing it would be better by now, but today its really really bad I have been chewing rennie all day and taking the medicine from the docs but none of it works. What can I do????? someone please offer me some help.
Also been having bh for the past 2 weeks which is now getting more and more each day.

ElusiveMoose · 13/07/2010 20:35

Lizzie I'm sure one of the helpful ladies on here will repost her list, but in the meantime if you search the Talk section you're bound to find some stuff - I remember searching for 'hospital bag' or some such last time round, and loads of threads came up.

mrsZaC · 13/07/2010 20:54

Hey all,

Sorry I haven't been on for a while, I'm knackered and baby does NOT like me sitting down today so can't catch up on everything but got a general idea of whats going on now.

Shocked about mislaid parcels and sorry to those with some discomforts muchos sympathy. Not long for some of you now, I was half expecting to login in and find a few of you had popped

My nanna passed away on Sunday after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer, so it's been an exhausting weekend. Still got a week left at work so was 1/2 considering not going back but I popped in today and boss said to take thursday off and friday for the funeral so at least that breaks it up a bit for me, I'm struggling a bit with sitting down for so long, baby does not like it at all and makes me know about it!! also this morning when I was walking to work and this evening I have been getting lots of sharp pains down below, very nippy. Roll on next Tuesday!

On the plus side saw the midwife today for my 32 wk appointment (@32+5) says baby is still head down and all looking grand, so thats good to hear, especially since I've neglected bump over the last week due to my nanna's deterioration.

Should i worry that I (don't think) I've had any braxtons hicks yet? maybe I don't notice them but I figured that they would be pretty noticable?

hope your all ok

xxx

cazzybabs · 13/07/2010 21:01

mrsZaC - I have never noticed BH - once when I went in for monitoring with dd1 I was having them but couldn't feel them

Really sorry about your Gran.

LCRLCR · 13/07/2010 23:53

Sad news Mrs Zac, very sorry to hear it.

I'm 35 weeks now and haven't had any Braxton Hicks either. I'm glad frankly! However since the weekend, down below hurts like hell! Is that things loosening up or the pressure of LO or is it that SPD I've read about? Hurts especailly to stand up and walk. After a lovely symptom free pregnanacy, this pain and shocking leg cramps at night have taken me by nasty surprise! Anyone else suffering like that - feels like inside the pubic area - or do I need to get it checked out?

bouncingblueberries · 14/07/2010 04:58

Hey everyone

Thought I'd take the nightshift tonight and let weehector get some sleep

Bit of a headache going on, so I decided to just get up and drink some water - think I'm probably dehydrated.

First off, stop with the bad mother chat please ladies. We do what we need to do to get us through the day (or night!) at this stage!

kcoffin you poor, poor thing have you tried reflexology? I've only had one episode of really bad heartburn this pregnancy, which was bad enough, so can only imagine how horrid it must be to have it all the time. Maybe start a thread asking for advice? Somebody on mumsnet must have gone through the same as you and they might just have the answer...

Sorry to hear about your nan MrsZaC

Hmm, not much other chat from me this morning. Midwife appointment this afternoon and a yoga class but that's about it. Starting to suspect this baby is far too comfy...

Well, I hope everyone is sleeping peacefully, including you weehector. Off to try and find something to occupy me that won't wake dh or ds!

weehector · 14/07/2010 07:39

Blueberries Ha. As if. At 4am, I was reading (Eat, Pray, Love..probably not the book an 8 months preggers woman should be reading - made me want to run away from myself and go travelling). I've since taken DH to work, ironed a pile of baby clothes ready to put into my super lovely new changing bag and had a yummy bowl of porridge & apple. However, I am going to try and get my usual 4hr snooze now as I've got a hot date with one of my loveliest male pals at lunchtime. We're off to a fab retro cafe for toasties & ice-cream. Last time I went, I came home with 5 bags of boiled sweeties ( Alice 's fault, she'd just done her sweetie thread) so I have high hopes for perhaps some Rose Buds or Soor Plooms today too.

MrsZac Really, really sorry to hear about your gran. She's at peace now and I'm sure, cheering you and her little great-grandchild, from afar.

Kcoffin Heartburn is just the pits isn't it? Poor you. Have struggled (struggled being the operative word) through with Gaviscon & gallons of milk so can't recommend anything else though my sister swore by Omazeprole (sp?)which you'd need a prescription for. Bland food, avoiding citrus/tomatoes/etc, sitting up & not eating too late at night gives me relief to greater or lesser degrees too.

ElusiveMoose · 14/07/2010 09:13

Really sorry to hear about your gran, MrsZac. Very hard to deal with something like that at a time when you're already so emotional.

I've got a nice morning planned. DS is in preschool so I'm going to have my pre-birth haircut, then probably pop into the tile shop to pick up some samples. Ooh, and I just got a free Graze box delivered (courtesy of O2 rewards). I'm not going to keep getting them (too expensive!), but I've got this one free and the next one half price. Was going to tuck in right now, but it just occurred to me that they would make great snacks for the hospital bag.

Re BH, I never really got any last time and haven't much this time either. I get the occasional tightening, but there's no real sensation to accompany it (I can tell that my bump is tighter, but can't actually feel the contraction, IYKWIM). And I'm nearly 37 weeks now. I think some people just don't really get them.

kcoffin27 · 14/07/2010 10:22

Thankyou blueberries and weehector, I have also been drinking gallons of milk It has finally gone whenI got up this morning so hopin it will stay away

blueberries you had a lonely nightshift. I havent tried relexology, I may look into it.

Just got back from the nurse as I had to have my bp checked it was 130/86. When I saw the mw it was the same, she said if it goes over 90 they will decide what to do. The nurse today didnt ask anything else like if I had a headache which I do a really bad one.

marzipananimal · 14/07/2010 11:28

Hi lizzie, this is my hospital bag list (not actually started packing it yet but bought a few things):
Maternity pads
2 nighties
Snacks and drinks
Paracetamol
3 x vests, babygros, muslins
Cardigan/blanket (for baby)
Pants and nursing bras
Tankini top (for pool)
Flip flops
Shower gel, shampoo, hairbrush
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Face stuff
Deodorant
Anti-bac wipes
Nappies and wipes
Reading book
Maternity notes and birth plan
Change
Notepad and pen
Camera (charged)
Plastic bags (to take home dirty stuff)
Vaseline
Breast pads

Hope that helps. Any other additional suggestion welcome!

marzipananimal · 14/07/2010 11:34

I haven't made a list of stuff to get for the baby but I reckon there's not too much you need before they're born - shops will still be open afterwards! As long as you've got somewhere for them to sleep, something to transport them in, something for them to wear, nappy changing and bathing stuff I think you'll be fine. Maybe scratch mitts would be useful from the start

mrszac I'm not aware of having had any BH either but I'm quite glad judging by the grief they're giving some of our ladies!

ElusiveMoose · 14/07/2010 11:51

Thanks marzipan, there were a couple of things on there I'd missed out! (plastic bags and wipes, if you're interested). NB for any first timers who might be wondering about the wipes (if you're not planning on using them on the baby yet), they're still good to have for wiping mucky loo seats etc in the hospital.

Just had a really good haircut, which was lovely, but also quite annoying, as the only stylist who was free cost £50. I'd vowed to look for a new salon now that my old stylist has moved away, because I really can't afford fifty quid haircuts these days, but now I really like the way this woman cut it. Aaarrgghh!

Oh, and BTW Graze have just emailed me a code for a free introductory Graze box for any of my friends who fancy it - so here you go 5RR8KKQN. Just stick that in their website and you get your first box free.

mrsZaC · 14/07/2010 11:55

Hey ladies,

Thanks for all you kind comments, I really will miss her and sad that she didn't get to meet baby but she is in a better place now free of suffering

LCRLCR are they like short stabbing pains down below? I asked the midwife yesterday and she said it will most likely be baby's head pushing up against everything.. They were pretty bad yesterday evening and mostly when I'm up and walking about so I guess it must be the pressure of baby's head.

Thanks all for putting my mind @ rest about BH, thought I was doing something wrong not getting them!

Work have very kindly gave me two days off for the funeral and some me time, very nice since I'm finishing up on Tuesday. I'm going to get my haircut tomorrow morning to look smart for my nanna (she was a very stylish, image concious woman).

Was up at 3am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep till about 4am... alright when your not getting up at 6:30!! roll on Tuesday.

Midwife had a look over my birth plan yesterday and was very impressed gold star for MrsZaC! All except the part about vit K injection, my hypnobirthing practicioner had advised that babies that haven't had intervention during birth are much less likely to be brused and therefore don't need vit K, and if they insist then this should be administered orally. My midwife said at my hospital it's policy that every baby has an injection, however you can opt for oral but this can be destroyed in the stomach acid... I'm not keen on distressing baby if I get my ideal birth it seems such a shame to have to interfier if I've managed with no intervention... what are your thoughts?

marzipananimal · 14/07/2010 12:01

I want my baby to have vitamin K orally too - he/she will have been through enough with being born and I don't want to inflict any extra pain. I hadn't heard it can be less effective though, will talk to my mw next time I see her

pamplem0usse · 14/07/2010 12:10

MrsZaC my NCT lady said that the vit K taken orally can also be problematic as baby is quite likely to sick it straight back up.....

Thanks for the plastic bag for dirties tip marzipan

I'm currently sat at home waiting for my midwife who said she's be here 'late morning'. Do I make lunch and hope she doesn't arrive when I'm halfway through eating?! Starving....grr...

To make things worse I haven't had an appointment for nearly a month; I was supposed to have one last week but by the time she responded to my appointment requests could only do a Wednesday morning and I'd got plans for... you guessed it... Wednesday morning (having kept the rest of the week free)....

ElusiveMoose · 14/07/2010 12:12

Don't want to sound harsh, but to be perfectly honest given the massive physical experience the baby's just been through, I suspect they barely notice a tiny little jab afterwards. I certainly don't remember it particularly distressing DS (but then I don't remember all that much about the post-birth period ). Obviously if you have the option of the oral method and your MW advises that it's effective, then fine - but if your hospital doesn't give the drops, or your MW advises against it, then I really wouldn't feel too bad about it. Hope that doesn't make me sound too mean. I think I'm just a bit blase about jabs - I don't mind having them myself, and even DS hasn't cried for his last couple of sets. Maybe I just come from a very thick-skinned family .

mrsZaC · 14/07/2010 12:51

thank you for your input, elusvie you don't sound harsh at all, it's good to hear everyone's opinions.

I'll probably sway towards the injection but I'm considering opting for the oral as it will be better than having nothing at all if it really is that important baby gets it.

USMum27 · 14/07/2010 12:59

Oooh - thanks for the Graze code Elusive I've been desperate to try it but a bit shocked by the expense. Now I can have lovely snacks for the birth

MrsZaC so sorry to hear about your grandmother but I'm very glad that work is being so understanding. As for the VitK injection, I have to agree with Elusive. Your baby may not need it, but in this case I would say it would be much better to be safe than sorry. It is unlikely that they would notice a little injection (it will likely be more stressful for you than your LO - could your DH hold him/her during the injection instead?) and from what I read the oral is much less effective and likely to come straight back up. I'm another that doesn't mind needles or injections so again I may not be the best person to comment!
