Just found contradicting advice!

One site says it is high in nutrients, including (among others) iron,

Then another says that it includes tannin, (which prevents the absorbtion of iron)

pamplem0usse · 12/07/2010 15:58

I think they;ll be pretty peeved when they discover it's a baby carrier rather than some DVDs!!
Indeed the outdoor pool is still open... and positively thriving, it's like flies to.... on hot days!
My NCT lady told me her guidelines were to tell anaemic people not to drink it. There seems to be conflicting info on the web but the most official looking info i can find says '. If you are anaemic & have been prescribed iron tablets, you should stop the raspberry leaf as it may reduce the amount of iron (& other minerals such ascalcium & magnesium) that your body absorbs. ' HTH! xx

Alicetheinvisible · 12/07/2010 16:01

Thanks.

Have you been to the second hand baby shop in town? There used to be one when i lived there, and a friend was talking about it the other day, she has just moved to the town and is expecting her first on 5th aug.

LizzieA · 12/07/2010 16:06

That just made me giggle ...... I don't fancy the idea of a 2nd hand baby - I'm hoping a brand new one pops out! Can you tell I'm bored in work???

Alicetheinvisible · 12/07/2010 16:19

But a second hand one may already be good at sleeping

pamplem0usse · 12/07/2010 16:54

I have indeed.... it's about five minutes from my house, dangerous (but possibly not as dangerous as having a M&P five minutes from my house!!)....

Alicetheinvisible · 12/07/2010 16:57

Is it still in the little arcade? There was a second hand bookshop there too, and a teeny tiny sweetshop.

pamplem0usse · 12/07/2010 17:35

Indeed.... and there's the (Mad) Hatters Cafe and the lingerie shop (if only I could actually fit into anything they have in at the moment!).... it probably hasn't changed very much at all....
And given the reaction to development plans from many of the old guard it'll stay that way.... no John Lewis for me then, boo!

bouncingblueberries · 12/07/2010 19:26

pample that's awful about your parcel! Hope you get some compensation from the Home Delivery Network

Well, I managed to finish painting the kitchen today, so goodness knows what I'm going to do with myself now! Caught myself eyeing the skirting boards in the hallway, but think I've exposed myself to enough paint fumes now...

Watched Four Weddings and a Funeral this afternoon and had a good old cry - that film is so cheesy, but so good!

Just been foul to poor ds. He was as good as good all evening then bedtime came round and for the third night in a row he started getting up to mischief. Ashamed to say I didn't handle it very well, ended up yelling at him and we both ended up upset . I just have no patience at all just now. Poor ds. He just wants his mummy back . All made-up and friends now, but I feel so guilty . I'm hot, I'm tired, I can't move properly, can't even cuddle ds properly...whinge whinge whinge, moan moan moan.

Time for some ice-cream to cool me off I think.

Hope everyone has had a nice day.

soontobefatnat · 12/07/2010 19:35

Pample - I despise the Home Delivery Network. After our wedding, we ordered some Le Crueset bits and bobs, which were then despatched by HDN. First time round, I got home to find a note saying it had been left 'at the side door'. Which turned out to mean that the delivery guy had thrown the box over our 7ft garden gate, thus smashing the contents. Amazing! Second time round, they left it on our doorstep in South London in plain view...and so it was nicked. Shoddy!

Hang in there Blueberries - and everyone else. I feel like I have a hangover today, which doesn't seem fair, what with the distinct lack of lovely booze in my life. And the baby seems to be trying to make a prison break today - such painful kicks/punches!

Chulita · 12/07/2010 20:27

pample at whoever thought it was clever to leave the parcel there, hope you can get compensation. And much as I'd love to clean your house, I can't stop cleaning my own! If it makes you feel any better I took raspberry leaf tea religiously with DD and I still had a 6 day battle with her so I'm not bothering this time round.

blueberries I was just saying to DH that I can't wait to be able to cuddle DD properly again, at the mo she sits on my bump and leans in, not comfy at all and definitely not snuggly

We just got back from 4.5 hours at the hospital trying to get DD seen. She's got infected eczema that we just can't shift. If any of you haven't tried loitering in a hospital with a tired, hungry 19 mth old, a tired, hungry DH and limited entertainment at 38 weeks pregnant...you're not missing much. We didn't even get anywhere either so now I've got Braxton Hicks from hell from standing up for too long, I'm knackered and the house is a tip but DD is still scratching herself til she bleeds...all good fun

Alicetheinvisible · 12/07/2010 21:13

Ouch poor DD Chulita

DD's eczema has flared up lately, think it is the humidity

ElusiveMoose · 12/07/2010 21:59

Chulita, poor you, sounds like an exceptionally rubbish day. And poor DD.

Pample I lived on RLT for the last few weeks with DS. He was 13 days late and labour lasted two days . Though a friend told me today that she drank 3 cups in one day (the first time she'd tried it), her labour started that afternoon and she had the baby an hour and fifteen minutes later. But then, it was her third . Oh, and big boo about your parcel - agree you should try for compensation.

Well, I'm very excited - this evening I climbed my new flight of stairs and had a walk around my new bedroom!! I can't believe how quickly they've got the main structure built (7 working days from start to now) - and even though the fiddly bits are still going to take another 8 weeks or so, it's so nice to know that the really major bits have all been done before the baby arrives. I think the only really messy job left is installing the gable window (Veluxes are all done), but I think that should only take a day. It feels very small up there (and the bathroom is genuinely minute!!!), but I think unfurnished rooms always do - and it's so lovely and light and nicely proportioned. It's all just bare wood and plasterboard at the moment, but it won't be long until the plastering and bathroom fitting get underway, and then I think it will all feel more 'real'. I just can't wait until it's all done.

Emster30 · 12/07/2010 22:55

pample Hope you get a replacement parcel soon!

Elusive that's exciting about the loft extension.

I saw the midwife this afternoon and she said the baby was engaged, though didn't give a number out of 5 at all. She had a good old rummage around in my pelvis though - ergh! She said she'd give me a sweep if I'm still there for my next appointment at 40 weeks and I want one - not sure if I actually want one at that stage, I'll see how I feel.

Had our second antenatal class earlier though still didn't have a chance to speak to CellyD - she passed me a note with her mobile number and hopefully we'll meet up at some point! We had to watch a really dreadful Australian DVD about breastfeeding. Me and DH were struggling to take it seriously but it was definitely useful.

weehector · 13/07/2010 03:01

Evening

First things first. Can we ease up on the Pimms chat? I'm a woman on the edge here....just about to murder people to get to the fridge and glug chilled lady petrol straight from the bottle. I'm actually amazed I made it this far - pre preggers, I considered myself a borderline functioning alcoholic. Been great to break the habit.

Poncherello Respect for your Zen-ness yesterday. I'd have been howling into the scones & Orange Pekoe. And you like my writing? Sadly, I'm a client services suit by trade (not allowed near the colouring pencils..) so much more spreadsheets & strategy - copywriters are my bitches usually! But I am a friend of the studio in most of the places I've worked and I do love the creative process..and I will admit that there are some ads & copy out there that I've cobbled together when I've been unable to get copy time. Don't tell my clients!

Pample Bad news re your Baby Bjorn package. Over the course of this pregnancy, one of the unexpected spin offs has been a new understanding of all the various logistics companies in the UK. And I concur that HDN are totally crap. I've been away for the weekend and I too came home today to a package on the doorstep (least it was there). I'm glad I finally won my own BB on eBay yesterday or I'd have guiltily wondered if I'd bought your stolen one...

Elusive Sorry to hear that the car saga continues. Kwik Fit sound like charlatans and VW sound like exortionists. We have a Saab & they're just as bad - because we are living on beans for the forseeable future, one of our economies was using a local guy instead of Saab for the last service & MOT - £120 instead of our usual £500-700 was a bit of a lesson to learn. But good news re the building work...hope you've got your paint colours looked out...just think how lovely it'll be to pad about that shiny new, sparklingly clean bathroom with your babe in arms.

Emster et al. Hurrah for your babies being engaged. I was at the MW today too and I don't know if I am or not..she said the baby was moving down nicely & was right on the brim but when I asked if I was engaged, she said she didn't want to say yes & get me too excited as she felt I had a few weeks yet. But when I looked at my notes tonight and it said 3/5 very clearly whereas 2 weeks ago she wrote FREE...so who knows. At least it will give me time to add to my hospital bag - currently a nightie, a dressing gown, some maternity & breast pads, some Lucozade & a bag of American hard gums. I know, I know..[sheepish icon]...but just you wait, once my Lin & Leo bag arrives I will stun you all with my ultimate beautifully ordered bags. (shoots for lavender scented tissue paper, fresh homemade snacky treats, vacuum sealed pouches for babygros & organic toiletries in travel sizes. More likely - M&S granny pants & a jumbo bag of cheesy balls).

soontobefatnat · 13/07/2010 08:03

Poor Hector - it was a lonely night watch! Hope you managed to get some sleep.

Rejoice, pregnant ladies of London - grey AND drizzly! Wooo!

soontobefatnat · 13/07/2010 08:07

PS - my thoughts about packing a hospital bag have only got this far: Percy pigs, Tangfastics or Star Mix? The comfort of Percy Pigs vs. the jolt of the Tangfastics vs. the variety of Star Mix... Decisions, decisions...

Alicetheinvisible · 13/07/2010 08:19

This may be controversial, but i am going to put it out there anyway.....How about mini percy pigs? Had them the other day and they were fab.

Got a grizzly toddler this morning, hoping to wear her out at toddler group this morning, and maybe, just maybe she will nap this afternoon.

Chulita · 13/07/2010 08:19

weehector what on earth are you doing up at that time? I was awake at that time too but was desperately trying to get DD back to sleep - it's another bleary day here but hooray for rain!

elusive how exciting! Am very of your new bedroom.

DH got back from his work colleague's last night to tell me the next 3 weeks are going to be horrendously busy. He's got 4 essays to write and a huge project that should really have more than 3 weeks to do (designing a new logging in/out system for the camp) and the system has to actually be fully functioning. It involves lots of web design and operating system jiggery pokery that he doesn't know much about all summed up with a 10 000 word document. This is on top of the class-time he's already got and the usual crap overnight guard duties etc. I'm due in 8 days, how's he going to do this with a newborn? and if I end up with a cs we're well and truly screwed. Argh! Realy, really bad timing...

I'm going to grab a shower, zingzillas are doing my nut...

OP posts:
bouncingblueberries · 13/07/2010 08:36

alice that's far too controversial. Don't mess with the original Percy Pigs please, it's just not right.

weehector I think you truly have turned nocturnal!

chulita oh honey, sounds like you're not having the best of times at the moment I can't believe they're dumping so much work on your dh when he should be anticipating paternity leave (I know you said previously he wouldn't be getting paternity leave, which in itself is shocking!). Hopefully you can keep your legs crossed until your mum arrives to help.

elusive that is so exciting! Have you chosen all your paint colours etc yet?

Well, I got excited for all of about 5 minutes last night when I had a whopper of a contraction. But, it was just the one and nothing else happened, not even a twinge all night. I don't know what this baby is playing at. With ds, I didn't have any of the period-type pain, not that I can remember anyway. Sigh. Can see me going all the way to 40+ weeks at this rate!

Not sure what's on the agenda for today. I have ds at home all day today but he's being entertained by audiobooks and dry cheerios at the moment. He's been a wee angel this morning so far. I suppose I should really take him for a haircut...

bouncingblueberries · 13/07/2010 08:37

Oh, nearly forgot HOORAY for rain!

marzipananimal · 13/07/2010 08:53

morning all, yay for those of you with rain - yesterday was lovely and cool and wet here but I want to get some washing out today so hopefully it'll stay dry.

Had a minor drama last night - DH dislocated his thumb playing football (he plays in goal) so I had to take him to A&E where the doctor clicked it back into place (ouch!). They gave him gas and air though which managed to give us both the giggles! He had this dreamy, happy look on his face which cracked me up! He said it was very effective and he thinks i'll like it in labour. Anyway, we got away about 11pm, arm in a sling for a couple of days to get the swelling down, so now I have to do all the washing up/cooking etc. boo!

Alicetheinvisible · 13/07/2010 09:14

Decided against toddler group. Just so knackered! DD is happy playing and i might even nap this morning. We haven't had enough rain, just the odd shower but i am optimistic as quite grey here.

If i have any energy later i will do a load of batch cooking for the freezer.

soontobefatnat · 13/07/2010 09:33

Ugh Chulita that's wretched. Have you got anyone who could step in and help hold the fort? I know it's nowhere near the same, but you'll need an extra pair of hands.

cakeywakey · 13/07/2010 12:09

Hello all, thank goodness that the weather has cooled down, I was starting to think that it would just keep on getting hotter. Maternity wards are pretty warm at the best of times so hope this cool period carries on.

I'm very impressed with how organised you all sound, I packed my hospital bag when I was in labour last time Must get that done actually as DD arrived at 37 weeks

Am still in the process of moving - not long now - so won't be checking in as much. Just wanted to say good luck to everyone over the next few weeks for impending births, I hope that everything goes well for you all and that you and your families have the most amazing time meeting and getting to know your new baby (babies of course for you Star)
