vitapulchra - I have the occasional day like this too, most days LO is kicking, thumping and wriggling away but sometimes is very subdued and quiet. Think there's supposed to be a connection between different developmental spurts and activity - so if LO is doing some vital piece of brain development they'll be pretty still. And can depend on their position etc as well. If MW thinks all is well then I'm sure everything is fine. He/she is prob saving up all their energy for keeping you on your toes when they arrive

elusive - Kwikfit do have a reputation for putting the hand in a bit and trying to get you to spend a lot more money than is really necessary. There's a Kwikfit at the bottom of our street, though, so that's where we always tend to go as well

mrsZaC - I know the feeling well, ended up in primark about 6 weeks ago having to buy the ugliest pair of fake, bright pink, crocs just to get me home. Embarrassed to admit they've since become a wardrobe staple lol

LO back in transverse and up very high so breathless and awful heartburn has returned Going to just potter about today and get a few wee things done while DH puts cot and nursing chair together. Hopefully nursery will be looking a lot more complete when those things are done!! Hope everyone's well!!

Alicetheinvisible · 10/07/2010 10:57

Apparently being dehydrated can make baby/bump sleepy, so perhaps drink more water?

Blueberries find something you really want to do, spend the afternoon in the airconditioning of the cinema, get a pedicure, go for a lovely picnic/meal out. Or just arrange something for next week that you really want to do, you won't get to do it of course

Have just mucked the horses out, back home, had a lovely cool shower and now crunching my way through a pint of crushed ice - lovely

Chulita · 10/07/2010 12:56

elusive see if you can find an independant garage/mechanic. We used to use ATS for exhaust stuff and they were always brilliant - they'd put the car up on the ramp, try a part etc and unless they fixed it they wouldn't charge. Went to Peugeot and they charge £60 just to have a look at it

littlemiss I hope LO turns again soon, I found it really painful when this one was transverse, especially when he stretched and the heartburn was horrid.

I'm so fed up. I've been having near constant BH since Sunday now. I maybe get 3 or 4 overnight that wake me up, when I'm sitting down I get them about every 6-10 mins and as soon as I stand up I have them constantly. It's so uncomfortable to do anything at all because my bump's rock solid and I can't breathe properly. Can these really go on for another few weeks?! Argh! We went for a potter around Dorchester and what with BH and a burning sensation in my pubic bone I really had to grit my teeth.

I'm not grumpy though, for some reason I'm really jolly, just fed up!

Right, sorry for the whinge, I might lie down for a bit to get a rest from these freaking BH!

OOOh it's grim oop north.... and that is bloody wonderful! My sympathies to all of the southern based ladies. Never did I think I'd be chuffed by a cool July Saturday.

I've got the midwife on Monday as lo has decided that breech is the position for this season. I've tried all sorts of movements to get him to turn but still have a little head sat above my belly button. DP even tried a little bit of a father son chat and asked lo to turn .

One more week of work to go and it can't come soon enough, just want to sleep all the time but can't get cumfy.

Can't remember who it was said that dd has an egg allergy - Just to say please don't worry too much, I've been allergic to eggs as long as I can remember (along with sheep, horses, cats, pollen etc etc). Don't feel too guilty about the lack of cakes I've never eaten cake in my life but as I've never had it I don't miss it. I get by very nicely on cheap ice cream (posh stuff has eggs in it) and biccies! Even Birds custard was invented by a lovely man who's wife was allergic to eggs. I've only ever had a couple of serious reactions over the years and egg is surprisingly easy to avoid once you get used to it. The only major problem I have is buying a sandwich in supermarkets as they all seem to have mayo on - I hope your dd likes duck wraps as you're quite often left with Hobsons choice!

Anyway, I should become more of a regular poster rather than a reader after next week. I tend to read every day but can't be bothered posting using the iphone as it's too fiddly.

OOh and thank you to everyone who has been organising Belle's rose, I think the suggested message is perfect.

LittleMissSnowShine · 10/07/2010 17:10

Anyone who recommended getting a nursing chair - thank you, thank you!! Just got it assembled and it is so freakin comfy!! I've had the worst back ache last few days since LO moved back to transverse and the second I sat in the chair I literally felt a million times better. Woo hoo!!!

Cot and nursing chair both assembled now, nursery is looking a lot more like a baby's room - still a few things to do but that's the main stuff in place

LizzieA - Raining in Belfast and LOVING it!! Never been so happy to see a heatwave break lol

Chulita - Ouch!! At least they're all signs your LO is ready and raring to go and meet the world - surely can't be too much longer to keep you in suspense. Exciting!!

blueberries - Your body feels ready, your house is clean and you feel grumpy and fed up...Sounds like your LO is about to be en route as well. This could be a busy weekend!!

Good luck to all ladies whose due dates are coming up in next few days

Chulita · 10/07/2010 17:21

Right, they say a shock can kick-start labour and I just spent 3 hours cleaning/dusting/hoovering/mopping the house. First time I've spring cleaned since we moved in back in September
Still, not due for 10 days and I'm actually feeling that as long as these BH settle down I'm happy enough to wait.

I love my nursing chair, glad you got one littlemiss

marzipananimal · 10/07/2010 18:34

Right i've finally made my paypal donation using dh's account (initials DS). Thanks so much to those of you who've organised it all, I'm so glad we've been able to do something for caz to show our support.

We've nearly finished all our baby shopping! Got a lovely moses basket off freecycle (result!) plus stand, and went out today to buy new mattress and bedding. Also picked up our pram which dh is enjoying playing with

Lizzie I'm in the north and it's flippin hot here! Longing for some rain! (suffering from hayfever as well as heat)

bouncingblueberries · 10/07/2010 18:40

alice you're so right - we ended up going to a lovely lavender field near us and it was so soothing. dh didn't want to go, just in case I went into labour (even he's at it!) but I've decided it will happen when it happens and sitting around on my backside feeling fed-up isn't going to make it happen any quicker!

chulita sounds like you're on a roll! Hmmm...think you'll be next to pop!

Glad you love your nursing chair littlemiss. The arm on my one broke last week and dh was threatening to through it out but some super strength super glue and some tlc mended it thank goodness! It's the only chair I'm comfy in and can get out of in a semi-dignified manner!

It's still scorching here tonight. Just put an exhausted ds to bed. He had his first sleepover last night as a trial run in case we need him to stay at our friends house overnight when I go into labour. ds and his friend chatted until 9.30pm last night and then ds was up at 5.30am! Our poor friends just laughed though and assured us they didn't mind Hopefully we'll be able to return the favour before too long.

Right off to drink some more water - so jealous of those ice makers. I want one!!!

ElusiveMoose · 10/07/2010 20:20

Thank you all very much for the sympathy since my very grumpy post last night. Feeling much better today. The knee is apparently cured; we went and chose a bathroom suite this morning, with no arguments ; I think the baby probably is head down, just doing some weird stretching; DS has been an angel today, in spite of the raging heat; and weirdly, despite my horrid mood and stress yesterday, I had the best sleep I'd had in months last night (probably something to do with the large glass of wine I necked ). Re the car, I'm trying not to stress about it - I know the answer is to find a decent independent garage (thanks for the advice, by the way), but frankly now is not the moment - given I could go into labour any time, I just want a car that I know reliably works. So I've decided to just bite the bullet and take it to VW on this occasion. Hey, at least they give it a thorough clean and valet .

Off for my hospital tour tomorrow morning (will feel weird, given I've already had a baby there!). I'm reading the Childbirth Without Fear book at the moment, and trying to think lots of positive thoughts about labour . It's really weird, these last few weeks seem to have gone really quickly. When some of you start talking about getting impatient to get your LOs out, I keep thinking 'why so early?', and then realising that actually your due dates are just a few days away - and mine's only four weeks....

tah2 · 11/07/2010 00:06

Lovely message pample

I think i may be CH - they are my husbands initials and our paypal account is in his name.

We have been busy decorating the nursery today. I am hoping to finish the painting tomorrow and get the furniture in place. If time allows i may also think about packing my hospital bag (Have still got 5 wks to go, so no panic - although both DDs arrived 2 weeks early!).

I am sooo jealous of all you ladies who are enjoying this stage of your pregnancy. I have been able to sleep properly for ages, got very swollen ankles, painful back and to top it off i have had thrush for ages now which does not seem to want to shift! Has anyone else suffered with this? any good tips on getting rid of it? - its driving me crazy!!!

bouncingblueberries · 11/07/2010 07:01

tah have you looked into probiotics? not sure about the recommendations during pregnancy but I had awful thrush just after I had ds and the thing that finally shifted it was taking high dose probiotic capsules. Hope you find a solution soon!

Chulita · 11/07/2010 07:58

tah some people swear by a few drops of tea tree oil in milk dispersed in a bath.

I was awake til 0330 with BH It's been a week now of these freaking things and I'm so tired today, glad DH had a good night, hopefully he can be on DD duty.

OP posts:
girlsyearapart · 11/07/2010 08:06

tah I was given the pessary which shifted it.

Quite wanted to have the baby yesterday- 10.7.10 nice birthdate!

Am up to two raspberry leaf tea capsules a day now. Bring this baby on.

Off swimming with the girls now.

bouncingblueberries · 11/07/2010 08:11

oh chulita poor you! Getting a bit tired myself of BH and period-type pain. I swear I'm symptom spotting even more than I did when I was trying to fall pregnant!

girls that was my thought too! 10.07.10 would have been a lovely birth date - even told the baby so, bit it seems to be doing a good job of ignoring me...already!

Just made the base for a banoffee pie to take round to a friends house this afternoon. At least the act of stuffing my face should distract me for a while.

What's everyone else got planned for today? Hope it's not too hot, could do with getting down to the allotment and giving it a good tidy up.

Alicetheinvisible · 11/07/2010 08:58

Morning

Just me and DD today, DH working, so will do whatever we can to make sure today is as easy and stress free as possible! Shortly off to do the horses. Much cooler today - thank god!

Occurred to me last night while lying in bed that this baby will not come before it's due date, don't know why i feel like that, just that is how it feels. Possibly i am telling myself this because i have lots to do

aendr · 11/07/2010 09:15

phew haven't been around for a while. Sorry, it's just been... a little busy.

I'm now relaxing at my mother's (and the toddler is currently leading her around the house firmly holding onto her thumb and Not Letting Go!) Given I was in the south where they have a "heat health watch", I'm rather glad to be up north and 5 minutes walk from the sea.

Love the wording for Belle's gift, and finally got around to sending some money - husband's acct (GS or AGS) but I IDed myself in the message.

I've been reading the birth plans. My first comment is that my instinct is to have something that's easy to read - instead of sentences, bullet points or at least highlighted important bits. You may get a very period or a handover of midwives as the shift changes, so being able to see your major desires quickly will be an advantage.
My own plan will be led by the fact that I carry Group B Strep (meaning I have to be antibiotics), Gestational Diabetes (meaning baby and I need to have our blood sugars and well being monitored), some gynae problems from last time (meaning I really want a controlled exit to not make it worse) and could actually be induced. So my main desire is to be communicated with clearly and not left in the dark about what's going on.

I'm not going to sort my hospital bag (list written) till next week, as my toiletries bag is in use for this holiday. I've also got a debate as to which size baby clothes to put in - DS was swamped in newborn clothes, but with the diabetes DD-to-be could be bigger. I think I'll pack up little bags of 1 outfit of early/newborn/0-3 months clothes for the initial bag, and then have a bag of each size in the car ready for the stay in (we'll be in at least 24 hours due to the GD, and 5 days if they don't get me on antibiotics quickly enough during labour.)

Today, blueberries, I plan to do some computer tech support for my mother, help her change over to her new TV table (with my DH doing the heavy lifting), take DS to the promenade, and help mother design some labels for her knitting sale. (She makes the most darling baby cardigans and matinee coats, and I get first dibs on them :-) With DS being so small and a November baby, she came to help and while staying made items to fit so by the second midwife visit, they were being admired and the midwife wondered how on earth we'd got the cardis so quickly. And with DD-to-be not being a DS2, mother and I have a good excuse to choose some girlier ones. )

I was a little worried about DS (19m) not really talking yet. Though he does have really good comprehension skills. However this last two days he's suddenly started with "buh" for bus, and "sheee" for shoes and DH says he's got something for "teeth" but I haven't heard it myself. So I'm being chuffed mummy right now.

cazzybabs · 11/07/2010 09:18

Went to the ball yesterday...it was fun! I did a little dancing and sulked a little because I couldn't get my shoes so had to wear different shoes!

cazzybabs · 11/07/2010 09:19

ohh and have just hired my TENS machine...which means no dount I will be in for a cs next week

tah2 · 11/07/2010 10:16

Thanks for all the suggestions!
I have taken two lots of pessaries already so am now on a mission today to buy some tea tree oil and probiotic supplements. I have been eating lots of probiotic yoghurts and drinks etc - not sure if that would help but am getting desperate now!
On a more positive note i actually slept quite well last night, only woke up about 4 times - Yay!
Have a lovely day everyone!!

Emster30 · 11/07/2010 11:02

Morning all! It doesn't feel quite so unbearably hot here in London today, and I have no plans after two very busy days.

38 weeks today!

vitapulchra · 11/07/2010 13:16

Alice You're so clever--thanks for mentioning dehydration to me yesterday. I know I don't always drink enough, despite it's still feeling like A LOT; but have been making much more of an effort, and voila! lots more movement felt. I think I must be up to 3.5-4L plus pot of raspberry tea in the evening ! I'm SOOOO happy to feel him move more.

Tah If you've got persistent thrush, I wouldn't bother with yoghurt drinks but second the advice to use a pessary and cream plus a strong probiotic supplement; that should at least make you much more comfortable. I'm very prone but if I do all three (and avoid lots of sugar) it always settles down.

It's gorgeous here in Gsy--21 and sunny but not too hot. Am pottering about the house and garden with DH while kids take naps. We did so much out and about yesterday that we're staying home and taking it easy.

Alicetheinvisible · 11/07/2010 13:38

Vita so pleased! Read it on here at some point i think. I am a mine of useless info, but can rarely remember the day of the week!

Just had my polish neighbour come over with his friend (who speaks more english) to look at our dining room as he is going to paint it next weekend. House is a mess, i have a grotty old t-shirt on and no bra (due to sunburn) and leaky boobs i wasn't expecting him so had to keep my arms folded

CherryPie3 · 11/07/2010 14:29

Hello girls

Hows everyone?
I keep popping on to read all your posts but hardly ever get enough time to post myself.

I don't think it's going to be long before this thread has the pitter patter of more tiny feet - but who? Hmmm....maybe Chulita or Blueberries.

I will be eagerly awaiting the announcement

Fantastic news about the babies that have turned what a relief.
Not so good about all you ladies with swelling - you have my sympathy!!

Pample The wording you chose is just perfect, made me all tearful!! Well done

cazzy a cs at 40wks? Did they give you another option? I'd be of the same opinion as you - the advantage of going over is NOT having a cs until absolutely necessary!

tah I had thrush as well for about 2 weeks before Corey was born - I drank Robnsons Lemon Barley water juice which shifted it - it's what I always use - it's something I learned when I was a carer for the elderly but I'm not sure why it works. Cranberry juice has the same effect apparently but I can't stand it!!

Got to dash for a feed - hopefully back soon!

Alicetheinvisible · 11/07/2010 16:36

I have been taking my own advice wrt dehydration/reduced movement today. Not sure whether it is because he has moved positions but not getting the great big kicks and thumps in the last 24hrs, just very slow sweeping kind of movements, and hiccups!

Alicetheinvisible · 11/07/2010 20:02

I bet you are all out having lovely days aren't you DH is still at work

I suddenly don't feel very pregnant anymore feel a bit like me again. Very strange. Still bloody knackered though
