Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

A pal of mine who has twins has the OutnAbout and its fab. If I didn't have DS2 to consider, I'd go for one of those or the Icandy. DS2 will only be 18 months and too young for a buggy board, especially as it will be winter too. The abc adventure seems to have the best write ups for triples on here. Only prob is there is no UK supplier so will have to get a new one shipped from NZ or hope that we can get one on ebay.

This is the one I am seriously considering www.firstwheels.nl/en/city_twin/

Amberc · 27/07/2010 10:57

www.firstwheels.nl/en/city_twin/ sorry!

Amberc · 27/07/2010 11:01

The ABC one - my son is about 35lbs (c. 16 kilos) so I'm not sure if he owould fit in the toddler seat

I've been told my are fraternal, even though there is only 1 placenta. They think there is 2, but they have fused together. They said something about the thickness of the membrane being conducive to fraternal.

Lavitabellissima · 27/07/2010 21:17

Mine are identical Pixie sharing 1 placenta.

Had my 20 week scan today and all was ok, but as the babies are so close together they couldn't give me a definite answer to the sex.

Mine are di-chorionic - so two sacs and two placentas. Liklihood is that they are non identical. But there is a small chance they could be identical if the egg split in the first 3 days after fertilisation. My pal (with the outnabout) was told hers were non identical as two sacs and two placentas, but they look identical. She has just had them DNA tested and they ARE identical.

Where I live, there seems to be a twins epidemic at the mo. I seem to be aware of lots of other women who are pg with twins and keep seeing twins about everywhere. I don't know if this is just because I am hyper aware of twins, but where I live the trend is for having babies in your mid 30s onwards and I believe that there is more liklihood of twins the older you are. I am old! 40 in October. Yikes.

Amberc · 28/07/2010 11:11

Mine are non identical, two sacs and two placentas, the sonographer seemed very certain, plus I made three eggs through fertility drugs so most likely two fertilised.

sassy34264 · 28/07/2010 11:26

smokeybacon I'm like you - 36 in oct, but there are twins in my family. My mum was pregnant with twins when she was 23. So i guess i had double the chance- age and hereditary.

Changing the subject a little.......... my pram has just been delivered. Very exciting. It's enormous and only just came through the door folded down in a box. Me and dd have just tried to get it out and can't! Phoned mum to come round in her lunch hour and help us! ha
Tako Pram
Ummed and Ahhed over this pram, so hope it's ok.

smokeybacon · 28/07/2010 11:29

amberc I am a bit buggy obsessed at the mo. I am liking that one you linked too!! I think I saw one of the many twin mums around my way with one of those. She had two car seats attached to the chasis at different levels. It was very striking and I actually went up to her and asked her about the buggy rather than her gorgeous new born twin girls that were in it!!!

My mum is convinced that we don't need the triple/abc one and DS2 can sit on a buggy board behind a tandem. But I am not. Its winter and he will only be 18/19 months so I really want something that he can be properly put in so he can nap if we are out and be confortable. Plus I like the thought of him facing me in the abc. I am so worried about him being pushed out a bit, that for him to be facing me as we go out I think would be lovely so we can chat!!

Amberc · 28/07/2010 11:59

That Tako pram looks great - what a bargain too compared to others I have seen, especially with all the gubbins that comes with it. Does it face the other way too (so not just facing mummy)?

Smokey I have the same conundrum but my DS will be that bit older. I am thinking that there won't be lots of occasions that we have all three out needing to be pushed around (DS in nursery) so am thnking a cheapo triple and a good quality double with a buggy board. Unfortunately you can't get many cheapo triples which can go from birth - very happy to be pointed in the right direction!

sassy34264 · 28/07/2010 13:10

amberc It is great. Just spent the last hour figuring it out. It is slightly complicated but it is gorgeous. Very very well made and good quality. Extremely pleased. The pram/seat bit doesn't come off the chassis, but the handle bar reverses so you can have them facing you or away from you.
I was looking every where for one that came off the wheels, cos they are all too big to fit through a normal size door and I didn't like the idea of leaving one baby in pram outside while i took one in and vice versa. Luckily this pram comes with two quite sturdy carrycots that you can fit inside the pram while they are babies and you can just lift out, take both babies inside and then come back for the pram.

Swazzee · 28/07/2010 17:21

Hi all,

Been off for a few days - getting scanned! So, I've found out ours are both boys. The sonographer told us there was a 30% chance they're identical (two sacs, two placentas like some of the rest of you). Guess we'll wait and see what they look like when they're born... (Am I the only one who worries about getting them mixed up when they're babies?)

Have added myself to the list below and put us all in order:

Hi there, can I join?

Penguindreams #1&2 EDD 8/3/11, London, surprise

I am 8w+1 today and all of my suits are too tight! I can't even do the buttons up over my massive boobs! I can't believe I'm showing already - thought there would be at least another month before I had to start buying maternity gear.

We have another scan next week and superstitiously I don't want to buy anything until then just in case. But then I said that before the scan last week!

Lavitabellissima · 29/07/2010 09:37

Welcome Penguin Of course you can join! Congratulations on your twins!

I was really superstitious as well and waited until only recently to buy maternity clothes, now I'm waiting to buy baby stuff until 24 weeks. There are too many opportunities to worry!

Are your twins identical or fraternal? it's so exciting, was it a shock for you?

Swazzee · 29/07/2010 11:01

Thanks for the advice pixie though I might have to find something more manly than painting nails!

I'm with you Lavita on the waiting to buy baby stuff. May even wait past 24 weeks. A friend of mine wants to throw me a baby shower and I keep putting her off as it still feels too early!

Congrats and welcome penguin!

Sassy do the carrycots on that pram look sturdy/soft enough for them to sleep in for a few months - instead of moses baskets?

Penguindreams · 29/07/2010 12:29

Lavita, how did you manage to hold off buying clothes? I literally won't fit into mine before long!

But I agree on the baby stuff - won't be looking at anything for months!

Sure these are fraternal - 2 frozen blasts transferred, 2 sacs on the 7w scan.

We knew it was a chance with the IVF, but we were so convinced the treatment wouldn't work at all that we hadn't even considered the possibility of both taking!
