Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Well i bought maternity clothes in my size (size 12) at 10 weeks as my own clothes were getting tight on my stomach. Unfortunately most don't last that long because although you don't really change in size your bump is going to be bigger than a singleton pregnancy and maternity clothes stop fitting.
You're then forced to go up in sizes and they start to fit your bump but look ridiculous in places where you haven't changed.
I tried on a pair of size 16 white linen pants a few weeks ago. They fitted around the bump but made my legs look twice their real size.
I really like alot of the vest tops with funky pictures on them, however the size that fit my bump (18) are so baggy under my armpits that they just show the sides of my bra!!!!!
Definately try to find things that have lots of extra material for the bump!!! I have seriously considered Kaftans, as i am just rotating about 5 outfits now!

We seem to have loads of different stages in pregnancies on here - have you made a list of everyone's due dates? Mine is Jan 26 so I think I am pretty much at the same time as jjkm.

I am 13 weeks but look 6 months pregnant already - nobody can believe it. This is my second pregnancy though so apparently your body adjusts very quickly. I cannot fit into any normal clothes any more. For the bogger bumps, I definitely recommend leggings and a long t-shirt/tunic/dress on top. Doesn't hide anything but I giess if you are past 12 weeks you don't care if anyone notices any more. I certainly cannot hide it!

I am not working as I took redundancy in Jan so thankfully don't have to worry about taking off maternity leave. I can tell you though in my last pregnancy I was forced to quit 9 weeks before my due date as I was so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep at night. I also developed SPD and couldn't walk far. It was so dull being at home for that long when I was used to a very fast paced full time job. I was so bored!

Thanks guys, appreciate your advice and comments! I'm only popping to asda so it'll be cheap and cheerful. I like the idea of drawstring pants - I think my SIL lived in those type of pants during her last pregnancy and as you say you can tie them up as you need.

Will probably just get leggings and bigger tops for now and see how I go. Bit early for jeans just yet unless they're a size bigger and look ok and are cheap!

No, we wear proper nursing uniforms, tho they are tunics. Unfortunately, should you become pregnant, with the budgeting of hospitals, our ward doesn't do maternity tunics so I'll have to wear a dress and these dresses are incredibly ugly and unflattering! Maybe I'll broach with the matron some theatre scrubs as has been suggested as with twins, I'm gonna be a bit bigger than a singleton so wonder if these dresses will even fit!!!???! Time will tell.

As for our statistics, I'm 10 weeks today, and due 21st Feb. Out of curiosity, where are folk living? I'm in Suffolk.

I'm in Beckenham in Kent

sassy34264 · 26/07/2010 16:05

I'll start a list and set it out the same as the one i am on for people due in sept. It is nickname, number of the baby, ie, 1&2 or 2&3, due date, where you live, and then boy/girl boy/boy etc or surprise. Just copy and add yourself and put it in due date order.

Do you Amberc and jjkm mean 2011 instead of 2010??! Otherwise it's very interesting that you had your twins in january jjkm but don't yet know what sex they are! Hehe

Bought my first maternity clothes yesterday - just a couple fo t shirts, a shirt and a pair of leggings. Very weird wearing leggings with a pocket for your gut to fit when you don't have that big a yet yet to fit it! But heck they're more comfy than nornmal leggings so they'll do perfectly if worn with a baggy top!

Nausea still no closer to settling - I'm starting to fear the need for more time off and I really REALLY want to get back to work! I'll be almost 12 weeks by the time I'm due to go back so I'm keeping fingers crossed!

Question for you all - what have you been told about eating nuts? My midwife didn't mention anything about it and I'm tucking into my nutty breakfast cereal every morning and have been eating dry roasted peanuts. I've no allergies and my husband only suffers with hayfever occasionally but should I stop or do you think it's ok?!?!?

OP posts:
Lavitabellissima · 27/07/2010 08:37

Tabby, think you are fine to eat nuts.

For due dates are you doing your 40 week dates? or 36/37 week dates? sorry to be confusing.

sassy34264 · 27/07/2010 08:53

I've done my 40 week date.

Amberc · 27/07/2010 09:00

I've done my 40 week date but clearly won't be then as I'm getting myself a c section unless things happen naturally before then. Tabby yes I meant 2011 - stupid me!

I felt rotten until 12 weeks and then the day after 12 weeks hit I magincally felt fine - was really weird. Of course I then immediately thought something bad must have happened!

I am eating nuts - eat them and don't worry about it. I am eating all sorts of naughties in my second pregnancy like rare steak and sushi.

I find out today hopefully, have my 20 week scan at 1.30pm! I was still being sick fairly regularly until about 3 weeks ago, but the constant nausea stopped for me at about 14 weeks.

I've had the odd glass of wine and some blue cheese

Congrats Pixie

That is a lovely story, you can be our fairy twinmother and give us all the info. You must be a pro after 5 children!
Love the names too! what are your other DC's called?

I will write you a long list of questions later! prams, feeding, sleeping, routines. I've been reading up and think my head is going to explode!

Hello all,

Sorry I've not been on for a few days. Been busy!! Summer hols have started for DS1 so its now a case of entertaining him during the day when I'm not at work.

I'll add my name to the list in a bit if I can work out the cutting and pasting bit.

I'm now 22+4. Can't believe how quickly its going. I'm planning on finishing work at 29 or 30 weeks. I just think my body won't be able to cope with work and 2 kids and a twin pregnancy after then. I have to walk up 2 flights of stairs to my desk and I'm out and about at court and police stations too so its quite active. I get looks of horror from police officers every time I walk into a custody suite (belly appears first LOL!) so by 29/30 weeks it will be ridiculous for me to continue. I'm a solicitor BTW.

I love the Icandy twin buggy - but how expensive??????? Having said that the one I have my eye on is equally pricey as we are having to go for a triple. I can't bear the thought of a side by side triple, so DS2 will be sitting on top of one of theseadventurebuggycompany.com/triplebuggy.htm I am keeping an eye on ebay for one as new they are nearly £800.

Glad that you confirmed you are a solicitor Smokey I was ready your post thinking you were a professional criminal

I really want the i candy peach blossom, but it is mega expensive. Maybe the grandparents will want to contribute, here's to wishful thinking!

smokeybacon · 27/07/2010 10:20

And should add, lovely lovely birth story pixie. How many weeks were you? Presumably both were head down? From when? MIne are both head down (well they were 2 weeks ago) and am hoping hoping hoping that they will stay there, so I can have a birth like yours!!!

Pixie that's a lovely story! great names too. That adventurebuggy looks amazing - it makes me feel quite ill thinking of buggies - I don't know what to do. Thankfully I have time on my hands.

smokeybacon · 27/07/2010 10:40

LOL lavita some people think that we are professional criminals!

pixie wow , fantastic to hang on till 40 weeks. My hospital talk in terms of not going beyond 38 weeks and inducing then, although my consultant is very pro a natural delivery if the circumstances are favourable.
