anyone else expecting twins?!?!?

Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Yay Smokey! well done and big congratulations on the arrival on your boys Freddie ad Tobias. Look forward to seeing pictures xx

cerubina LOL at the rose and the Times, I'm in on Tues and I know I will be there for bloomin hours!!

Swazzee · 09/11/2010 12:06

Congrats Smokey. Glad to hear it was a natural delivery after being induced as that's where I'll be next Thursday! And two boys like me - love the names! I'd also like to know what pain relief you used?

As for maternity clothes, I got all mine from dorothy Perkins but had to buy online as none in stores. Sizing was a nightmare (some things too big, some too small, despite always ordering the same size) and for each delivery I had to send back something. But the linen trousers were great for work. Also, by 32 weeks I'd pretty much grown out of the fitted mat tops which were too short - went back to my old non-mat tunic/dresses which were long enough to cover my belly!

Amberc · 09/11/2010 16:45

Massive congratulations Smokey - what weights were they? Great names too. Glad you got your VB.

Cerubina and Victoria - My DS does go to nursery full time so I am on my own all day. That might be half the problem. I am also pretty housebound these days and only able to walk about 5 minutes - at only 28 weeks! I am huge and I have SPD. I never get any sleep and my DS wakes up at 5.20 these days because of daylight saving. I think it's a combination of sleep deprivation and lonliness/boredom really. I will probably feel better once I can start ordering th baby things once our bloody bathroom is finished (was meant to take 10 days - now in week 4!!)

My twins arrived last Thurs, just getting home now x update later.

smokeybacon · 09/11/2010 19:47

Hi there, back with birth story!!

It was all pretty quick and intense. The induction worked a treat. It took one dose of prostin to get me to 3 cm in 6 hours and then my waters were broken which, wow, really kicked it off.

I was 5cm at 6pm having contractions pretty much without a break. The epidural was all lined up, in fact the anethetist was in the room with needle in hand when at 6.40 I had the urge to push. 7.01pm Freddie was out.

Contractions stopped for a bit which was a huge relief but then they said twin 2 was breach. That wasn't really a surprise as he'd been very wriggly all day but I really wasn't expecting to push out a breach baby without pain relief! There was never any mention of sectionning me.

There must have been about 10 people in the room at delivery. 4 registrars, the midwife and medical student who had been with me all day, and some random hangers on who came in for a nosy! I must admit it didn't really bother me as they were all encouraging me so the fact I seemed to be some sort of twin show, was fine!

We're home now and its all good. Its a bit of a struggle though with giving my time to the other two, particularly DS2 and its beginning to make me feel a bit teary that I can't spend time with him as I have to feed the twins.

The feeding is going ok. Milk not in yet so am topping up with formula. Want to avoid being readmitted like with DS2 as my milk never properly came in, but the boys are doing ok on colostrum and about 10 mls of formula each feed.

Must go back and read latest posts now and have to post on ante natal thread too. Back later I hope, subject to feeding and sleep.

Jenzopos · 09/11/2010 19:48

wow congrats lavita and smokey! I can't believe I'm still pregnant! seems all you ladies are having them before me! 38 weeks today.

smokeybacon · 09/11/2010 19:54

Oooooh lavita just spotted your post!! Congrats and look foward to reading all about it.

Swazzee · 09/11/2010 20:32

Congrats Lavita! How many weeks were you?

Jenz, know how you feel - I'm almost 37 weeks now and feel ready, specially seeing everyone else dropping! Have you got a date booked? 8 days to go for me...

hippy3 · 09/11/2010 20:41

cerubina your previous post about worrying about everything sounds EXACLTY like me.

I seem to be unable to go one day without thinking up some awfull thing.

I am due also the end of April, with ID twins. Am being scanned every two weeks, and am under consultant care. Am yet to meet my midwife as the surgery I am with had a change over and have only just assigned a new one too me. Although Im seeing her at home on Thursday. Thank god !

Mind you have been into hospital twice allready for scans and im just 15 weeks, so am lucky that they are keeping an eye.

Was given some frighteneing news by the doctor at my last scan one twin is slightly bigger than the other, both within normal range, and both really active. Its NOT tts they have reassured me.....maybe could just be a growth spurt thing. I assumed identicals were born the same size and height Confused

I feel great at the moment. I too dont think im really showing, thinking I should be bigger. I am a size 6 normally, and 5'3. But I did weigh myself today and have put on over a stone and it is all belly...I juts assumed I would be MASSIVE by now? Its our first as well.....

I have a consultant appointment tomorrow and will keep you updated. My due date is April 29th..They have of course told us they will be early, and told us all the bad things that can happen... but im not listening im trying to take it week by week.....Smile

smokeybacon congratulations on your twins!!Dont think I can wait the next few months!! am very impatient.......

strawberrylace · 09/11/2010 21:00

smokey and lavita - many congratulations on your great news! keep us posted on how you're doing....

Had my first health visitor visit yesterday - Zoey is over her birth weight now, so really pleased about that, Lucas is putting on some weight, but not v much so I am trying to get him to feed more often - think he is a lazy boy. When they are not eating and sleeping they are mostly weeing on us - got hit in the eye by Lucas at 3am today... and I know that I have to get the nappy on quickly, but he was too fast for me!

Hope you are all ok - i noticed the chat about pregnancy clothes. If anyone is a size 16/Large and would like some bits and pieces, please message me. I have some black work trousers, and various shirts/t-shirts I will happily post - although they are summer things, you could wear them with a long sleeved t-shirt underneath?

hippy3 · 09/11/2010 21:07

Lavita so sorry have just seen that your little ones arrived too......sorry CONGRATULATIONS to you to. ! Smile.

thingamajig · 09/11/2010 22:55

Wow, what a lot has gone on since I last posted. Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies (and congratulations to everyone else for hanging onto and growing them so well!!).

I'm 21 weeks now and my bump has suddenly popped out in the last fortnight (hippy take heart!), also I have just started feeling them moving (I was getting a bit worried about that one). Now it feels like there is a bag of eels in there.

I,m feeling ok though still ridiculously sleepy, I stay in bed for 14 hours at night and still go white with exhaustion around 3 in the afternoon. My pelvis is beginning to give up the ghost though - it lasted a bit longer last time. Hormone wise, I'm still rather emotional; I've been in tears twice catching up on this thread.

My darling darling DH is so good at doing the housework as well as working - he was utterly useless and uninterested during my first pregnancy, but when dd turned up everything changed and he is now the most devoted family man. I think men need things to be a bit more real before they 'get' it.

re sleeping on your back: I have always been told that it is bad for you before it is a problem for the babies, so you will generally wake up and move before you do any damage. I don't find it comfy any more, but for some reason I'm fine on my back in the bath.

Keep up the good work everyone; what are you all planning for Christmas?

thingamajig · 09/11/2010 23:12

Ooo, and they are girlies. We haven't had the stats for ages; they need lots of updating. I have done a bit, but haven't added any newbies in, also please check that I have got you right, and add in weights etc if you would like.

Firstly congratulations to Smokey and Lavita on all your safe arrivals!

Smokey you sound like a bit of a hero dealing with all that sans epidural and with a cast of thousands staring at your bits, and then home to look after two more children as well. Hope you get a good routine worked out that allows you to give everyone their quality time.

Lavita looking forward to hearing your story when you can draw breath.

Hippy you are only 2 days behind me - somehow from your earlier posts I had the idea you were a week or two behind. We're also the same height...practically twins ourselves. Let us know how the consultant appointment goes today.

Amber, sorry you are having such a horrible uncomfortable time of it. You sound really fed up. At the very least let's hope the bathroom gets fixed ASAP - have just been there myself with whole house renovations and it is massively stressful, which you really don't need do you! x

Updating the stats (sadly taking Penguindreams off the list after her awful news recently).

Just updated the list and put myself in ! Smile .
Met with the consultant and they said it was too early to say if they were growing properly and that they just need to keep an eye on me. I explained that the doctor we saw last time totally upset me and freaked me out, and the consultant was very good. I explained I didnt need to know everything that could go wrong everytime I attended. Just if there is something wrong then obviously I needed too. They agreed. Shock

I now have another scan next week, so one down probably around another 40 to go !! feel kinda special just taking each scan and week as it comes !
Cant think of a new name for a new thread..?? my mind is very muddled recently Blush

holidays2010 · 10/11/2010 17:19

Congrats to Lavita! How did it go at the hospital?

thingamajig - I only started feeling movement a day before my 20 week scan, I was getting worried too because I was constantly getting emails since I turned 16 weeks asking if I can feel movement yet which annoyed me because I didnt!

But now everyday (I'm 21 weeks) I feel the kicks and turns, just waiting to grab my DH's hand so he can feel them too, some of them are quite strong! :)

As for the new thread, how about a simple "Twin's Club" or "Twin Mums" ?
Not sure if there's already one out there in the threads...

Swazzee · 10/11/2010 17:34

Don't worry about movements yet. I was 21 weeks before I felt the movements inside and probably about 25 weeks before I could feel them by touching my stomach on the outside.

Course now I can even see them moving! Be happier to see them outside though. Walking is quite painful as my SPD is back with a vengeance and me and DH are getting really impatient. Not sure how much longer my body will hold out, or how many more antiques or cookery programmes my brain can sit through!
