anyone else expecting twins?!?!?

Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

I'm assuming Flatpack's partner has had the babies, they did say any day. Hope it all went well and we'll hear from her soon. Best wishes flatpack

Sassy you are 32 weeks though at 10 squares I'm 19 weeks on Monday and 7.5 squares - this is funny!

sassy34264 · 15/07/2010 20:41

Well Lavitabella i'm bloody enormous, (my MIL told me today that she had never seen anyone so pregnant) so good luck to you!!!!!

Just done my toilet paper measuring. Are all squares the same size in every brand????
So Andrex give me 8 squares and about an inch. And I feel enormous. I'm normally a size 12 pre preg but I'm quite tall too. I reckon I look about 30 weeks if there were just one in there.

elizabethsmum · 16/07/2010 11:28

Hi all- hope everyone is OK- LOL at toilet paper squares idea- we have some really cheapo paper and some slightly more expensive which have larger sheets so will get measuring!!

Just to update everyone- thanks for all the kind thoughts- had amnio today- all went realy well- not as bad as I thought at all- second needle slightly more painful but DH (who was watching- I had eyes shut) said that the second had to 'go in a bit further'!

Dr had as good a lokk as poss over both babies and no obvious probs but will have ffull detailed scan in 3 weeks. I had to shut myself up at one point when I started pointing things out on the screen to DH

Results will be back on tue pm at the earliest, but strangely feel a bit calmer now it is over with x

tabbycat76 · 16/07/2010 13:34

Glad to hear your amnio went well elizabethsmum - relax now and put your feet up. Great timing with the w.e, you won't miss any days from work! It's amazing isn't it how women don't find it that bad. I'd think, OMG a needle shuffed into my belly?!?!? Big ouch! But having seen some done, they don't seem to squirm like I'd have imagined they would!

I have my Nuchal Scan booked for 11th Aug so a little time to wait as yet. By then I'll be 12+2. I guess I'll be seeing my Consultant 2 weeks after that to discuss my antenatal care. Trying not to think too much about it as whether our twins are at risk is out of my control really.

I still haven't done my toiler paper squares - keep forgetting. Time of day we do it may play a part tho because I'm much rounder in the evenings, maybe due to feeling bloated?!?! I'll do it in a while and report back. I'm normally a size 12 and 5'8 so shouldn't need that many to go around! haha

Hope everyone else is ok. I'm feeling better every day thankfully tho still have occasions during the day where I feel rubbish and have to lay down. The sea bands I bought were a waste of money so wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Fingers crossed I'll be ok for work next w.e - daytime telly and house chores is really not fun! Oops, that'll be exactly what it's like with two babies in a few months time, hahaha!!

Have a good day guys, x

Ok, just measured myself - 7 squares of toilet roll! At 8+ weeks?!??!?!? Mind you, I've been blessed with a gut that no matter how hard I try and shift it, it's always there so maybe it's just fat! Haha!

OP posts:
Lavitabella · 17/07/2010 09:11

DP think's we're crazy with the toilet roll and said "Why don't you just use a measuring tape?" not sure really!

Hope everyone is feeling ok today x

tabbycat76 · 18/07/2010 11:34

Fair point to lavitabellas husband!

Taken a few steps back this w.e - just as i was starting to feel a bit perkier, I was confined to the bed yesterday after a vomiting episode in the morning, and today I'm not much better tho have managed to crawl out of the pit. So demoralising My sick note finishes this coming Thursday - I'll take things a day at a time and if I'm not right I'll extend it! Day time telly is soooooo boring after a short while. It's funny cos when you're at work, you wanna be at home and when you ARE at home, you just wanna go back! Crazy!

Not one person has contacted me from work to see how I am, after 4 weeks off - am I being overly sensitive?!?! I started there January so i thought I'd have made some impact, hey ho! Ha, maybe it's the wrong type of impact!! ;)

Anyway, enough for now, hope you all are ok and enjoying your w.e!

Tabbycat- don't go back to work if you're not right- you'll get no thanks for it. I made that mistake with my last pregnancy and had loads of complications at the end which I think were contributed to the fact that i should have been off more.

I am hoping to go back this week after 10 weeks off- will be 17+ weeks so don't feel bad about it !!

Hope you are having a better day today

Awh. I feel for you all. I was never sick, but just felt like throwing up morning, noon and night. I couldn't face anything except plain foods- potatoes, pasta, toast etc. I lost 8lbs. I think mine cleared up around 13/14 weeks. Hope it's soon for you all.
I've got carpal tunnel syndrome in the last few days. Not too bad at minute, but i had it with DD and used to wake up screaming the pain was so bad. There's something for me to look forward to!

Lavitabella · 18/07/2010 19:43

I'm feeling much better now i'm nearly 19 weeks. I'm still sick a few times a week but it's not as exhausting as before. Although now I'm dealing with pelvic pain and acid reflux. It never stops!

I'm going to a multiples talk on Thursday night in Hammersmith run the multiple births foundation. It's only £5 per person if there's space as I left it quite late to book. I haven't booked any antenatal or NCT classes yet, have any of you?

sassy34264 · 18/07/2010 19:51

I've not bothered as it's not my first pregnancy, but to be honest i didn't go to many during my first either! Just read alot.
Been trying to work out how to put pic on, cos my 10 toilet paper doesn't sound that big. Think i've worked it out! 32 weeks Ignore messy room-was changing the bed!

tabbycat76 · 19/07/2010 08:31

Aw sassy what a fab shot! You're all baby and showing all at the front! My mother would say girls but then she does go by these old wives tales!! How many weeks did you say you are?!? It'd be pointless me posting on here, as I'm barely showing anything.

Nausea no better - ho hum. I think my problem is that I worry too much what people think about me. I said again to my husband yesterday I hate letting people down and he reminds me my priorities are elsewhere now. I guess he's right.

So hip pain, carpel tunnel, acid reflux - hmmm, what a joy it is to be pregnant eh?!? Haha! Why do we do it!??? Hope everyones ok with their own personal ailments.

Thinking about it, I haven't lost any weight, as my appetite hasn't been too affected. I'm having to have carbs at the mo and my taste for orange squash (which I used to drink by the gallon) has completely gone so I'm drinking gallons of milk instead! At least we'll all have strong bones in this body!

Right back to bed I think to lay down. Just totally fed up at the moment with all this nausea. Oh woe is me! ;)

Have a good day guys.

No. I resigned from my job last year. Nearly had a bloody breakdown it was that stressful. (College lecturer) Told DP years ago that if he wanted anymore children with me i wasn't going to work when we have them- so he was warned! Going to be a sahm. Have been a single mum-more or less- working fulltime since DD was 2 and it is so hard. (DP in armed forces, so he is never here) Not doing it again.
No stresses for me......well apart from the fact that we're living at my mums with all our stuff in storage waiting for the house we bought in March to be finished!!! Still no central heating, no plaster on walls and no kitchen or bathroom!!!! Can't see it being ready. Nevermind.

jjkm - ha, I've already made a firm decision in my mind as to how to deliver! Section all the way! Like you if I was having just the one, no doubt about it i'd go for a VB but as you say, and like I've seen many times in midwifery, first delivers normally and then complications occasionally arise with the second. I mentioned it to my mw at booking and she said well it's your decision, they're your babies! The thought of potentially having two sore exit wounds, one's enough isn't it?! However, sections do come with their down sides - pain and restricted mobility for a few days after, being unable to lift anything heavier than your baby for weeks after, and of course the killer of no driving for 6 weeks! It'd mean I'd be more dependent on family in the first few weeks but we're planning on having a grandmother stay with us for the first 2 weeks (one at a time, I couldn't cope with them both together!) and plus my husband will be on paternity leave for 2 weeks so we should be ok. If I could gaurentee a VB for both babies then I'd go for it but childbirth is one of those things that are sooo out of your control and nature dictates so no gaurentees.

Sorry for the waffle!! ;)

You've expressed my view as well tabbycat76.
I was also swayed by the fact that i had an emergency c-section with DD cos of complications after 14 hours in labour. I didn't find afterwards that bad really, so may as well cut out all the fuss. If it would have been a singleton pregnancy i would have gone for a VB as well.

Swazzee · 20/07/2010 16:28

I'm nearly 21 weeks now and I've not done anything about antenatal classes or anything like that. Not sure I fancy the idea of them and hubby definitely not interested. What happens at these classes? Excuse my ignorance!

Have also been thinking about the section v VB issue. Guess I'll wait and see what I'm advised nearer the time...

Lavitabellissima · 20/07/2010 20:04

Just popping in say hi Ladies!

I'm having a c-section! for sure

Physio gave me a back support girdle thing for my pregnancy. Not the most attractive addition to my wardrobe but it definitely helps.
