Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

I'm 21w and measure 40 inches already! I was a size 10 before this!

smokeybacon · 26/10/2010 09:14

Morning ladies,

I have no idea how much my belly measures. Maybe I'll find a tape measure and give it a go later on. I need to get on the scales too as I am intrigued as to how much weight I have put on.

jenzopos LOL at the image of the ironing board and ice packs. I hope it works!!

amber The Portland?? Wow. We are not worthy! Is it true that after your babies are delivered, you and your DH get a romantic meal WITH WINE (Or perhaps champers!!) whilst the staff babysit??????

cerubina I'm sorry but I did chuckle at nipplewatch, but ouch it does sound painful. Have you tried lanisoh (sp?) - the stuff that you put on for cracked nips during bf. It just might give you some sort of barrier.

So, yesterday I turned 40. I feel really really old. And fat. I narrowly missed another trip to hospital with my BP, but the mw was in two minds about it and when I told her DH and I were going out for dinner last night, we agreed that a mw would come round this morning to do another reading. So am currently waiting for a visit. I have a packed schedule on the next 2 days though - pre birth waxing, eyelash tint and eyebrow shape this afteroon, and a spa day with some friends tomorrow to celebrate my birthday so I do not want these babies to decide now is the time before 6pm tomorrow evening, or for any unscheduled admissions to hospital, thank you very much!

Amberc · 26/10/2010 11:41

It's quite mad how different all the measurements are - I measured round my tummy and I'm 47 nches at 26 weeks. I think it depends on how big you were in the first place and how much extra water you are carrying too.

Jenzopos - sending lots of turning thoughts your way - it's only the lead baby that needs to turn isn't it. When is the cut off point - or is there one?

Smokey - your birthday sounds great - best wishes belatedly !

Lavita, I have researched this all morning and my healthcare (AXA PPP) would have covered it all had I not had 'assistance' in my conception. I spoke to the POrtland at length (the obstetrics manager) and she advised me to seriously consider my options which I am doing. I spoke to my consultant and basically I am double booking myself. Booked at the POrtland for 37.5/38 weeks in which case it is unlikely that the babies will need help (anyone ot any stats on this?) but also booked at my local hospital if I need to deliver before this date. The woman at the Portland said that they do take women who have delivered for post natal care so you have the babies at your local and then move there for a nice afte birth experience but what a shag that would be. I am so annoyed at the assisted concetpion thing but I think it is because there is a bigger likelihood of multiples and they are covering their arses. Bollox Sad

Oh jjkm how utterly terrifying that must have been. I'm really pleased they both seem to be in good shape and are obviously in the right place. You must be exhausted and worried I can imagine - will keep everything crossed that they make really good progress.

sassy34264 · 26/10/2010 19:08

jjkm I'm so glad to hear they are doing well. I feel for you, cos i was terrified of this happening to me throughout my pregnancy. Hope they grow stronger every day. Keep us posted of their progress when you can. Will be thinking about you all. Best wishes and hugs for LO's.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 26/10/2010 19:17

jjkm just saw your post on the pregnancy thread! Congratulations on your early arrivals! They are in the best place and so glad to hear they are doing well. Please keep you posted and big hugs xxxx

Snowfalls108 · 26/10/2010 20:18

jjkm congratulations - hope all goes well.

strawberrylace · 26/10/2010 21:20

jjkm - i can only imagine how worried you are, but I am keeping everything crossed that things will progress really well for you and the twins. Will be thinking about you all - best wishes xx

Lavitabellissima · 26/10/2010 21:23

jjkm sending you lots of love and best wishes, must have been quite a shock for you. Intensive care wards are incredible these days and I know a little girl who was born at 24 weeks and she is now a gorgeous and healthy toddler. Are they boys or girls? How is your DP?

Amber Insurance companies are a complete pain! At my Tamba course the twin parents who came in with their little ones had been born at 34 weeks, one didn't need any help at all and the other was in for 3 days. You are considered full term at 37 weeks so although I don't know the stats, I would think that would be fine. Worth looking at Queen Charlotte though, they are really lovely [hsmile]

Smokey Happy birthday [hgrin] I went and had a sneaky facial yesterday, figured I need to spoil myself whilst I still have chance. Now you've made me want to get my bits waxed (might be an idea pre c section?) and have my eyelashes tinted. Could also do with getting my hair done [hblush]

Jenzopos I really feel for you with the rib pain, one of mine loves putting her head right up there it's so painful. I still have really bad acid reflux and both gaviscon and omeprazolene don't seem to help.

Jenzopos · 26/10/2010 21:40

doc told me i could double my omeprazole dose and it seems to be working now!

jjkm - blimey what a shock - you were my (sort of)due date buddy!! I hope the twins are doing well and so are you. PLeasse keep in touch and let us know how they are getting on xx

Swazzee · 27/10/2010 20:51

Jjkm congrats! So early, but I'm sure everything will be fine and they'll be looked after very well. Keep us posted.

Me and DH went shopping yesterday and bought our first pack of nappies. Then we washed all their clothes ready to pack their hospital bag. So strange to see baby clothes hanging all over the house!

Enjoying maternity leave - amazing how quickly you cam get used to not going to work everyday! But starting to feel very very heavy now so not sure I would have physically managed any longer anyway.

35 weeks tomorrow and they're still very active. Scan next Tuesday, so we can find out if they're both still breech...

Jenzopos · 27/10/2010 22:53

good luck swazee...mine still haven't turned :S been doing exercises from the spinning babies site...seems to have made them more active but no turning yet...hoping the exercises are giving them a bit of space.
rescan at 37+2....if still breech its a cs at 38 weeks..im really terrified.....

congrats jjkm hope they are doing ok!

sassy34264 · 27/10/2010 23:14

jenzopos Oh sweet, try not to worry too much. I can honestly say after 2 c-sections (1 emergency and 1 elective) that they are not that bad. (I would have been terrified having twins vaginally!)
The hardest thing about c-sections is trying to stop yourself from doing too much because you feel fine (after a few days/weeks). Doing too much can split stitches so it really is important to take it easy for 6 weeks.
Hopefully it won't come to that for you.

Amberc · 28/10/2010 09:01

Jenzopos don't be terrified of a c section. I had one with my last baby and it's weird but OK. I second sassy in that you need to rest afterwards but so many twins come that way now that I guess every pregnant mummy with twins should probably be a little bit prepared just in case. You can't feel anything at all and the scar is barely noticable. It hurts for a while but you'll be in hospital anyway so the MWs will help with the babies. I was back to normal at 4 weeks I think but did have a few twinges when I did too much too soon. Chin up - the babies may well turn!!

smokeybacon · 28/10/2010 13:09

jjkm Just seen your post. Wow. What a suprise! Thinking of you and your twins and hoping they both progress well. How are you doing? I'm sure you will have better things to be doing, but hopefully you can keep us updated. Lots of love to you all.

Back at hospital this afternoon for consultant appointment. Am hoping hoping hoping that we get a date for induction and also that they are both still head down. BP still on the high side on Tuesday but persuaded mw not to send me in as I had a spa day booked with my pals yesterday! Which was lovely. Bit of girly chat, and a wonderful pg massage and mini facial. However my ankles were so swollen by the end of the day depsite having done very little. Anyway, am now ready for things to happen and last night and this morning I had groin pain/mild contractions and a lot of lower back pain like period pain so maybe things are gearing up.

MyFourGirls · 28/10/2010 17:31

Hi there all... looks like i'm at a similar stage to a few of you at 34+2 with non id girls...i've a 10 yr old D(step)D who lives with us and a 5 year old DD...

Anyway just thought i'd say hi...good luck smokeybacon..sounds like things are hotting up - how many weeks are you now? Smile

Snowfalls108 · 28/10/2010 17:48

jjkm can back up what the others day about a cs.
I had one for DS (emergency after a long long labour) and it was absolutely fine. I had a bit of discomfort 24 hours later, but other than that I was in lot less pain than many of my friends who've had natural births and had tearing. At least with a cs it's a surgeon who does the cutting!
Many many of my friends are going for electives for their second children.

smokeybacon · 28/10/2010 18:24

So..... November 8th is looking like d-day subject to a bed being available. Unless something happens earlier of course.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 29/10/2010 14:13

Ooo exciting Smokey [hgrin] how are you feeling today????

Jenz try not to worry about c-section. There are lots of helpful threads on here with tips. My sis had one on Wednesday and she is up and about, coming home today. I have heard that basically you have a sore tummy for a few weeks or a sore fanjo for a few weeks!

How are your tiny two doing JJkm? Big hugs xx

Feeling mine kick now but still quite light and feathery [hgrin] I also bought my buggy, went with Baby Jogger City select thingy. Got a good deal at the Baby Show [hwink] Felt quite early to buy it but it was a bargain and no time like the present eh?! I know in a few weeks especially with crimbo I am not going to want to go buggy shopping.

Hope everyone has a spoooookey weekend and enjoy your extra hour!

sassy34264 · 29/10/2010 15:02

oh, do we get an extra hour........thank god, cos if they were taken one off me right now i would punch someone!!!! ha.

Smokeybacon 8th November, so close, bet your very excited. Looking forward to it for you. As sleep deprived as i am, it's still wonderful to look into two faces every day. [hgrin]

Jenzopos · 29/10/2010 17:04

I.ve been hinting for an orange t shirt so I can go to my sisters as a pumpkin!

Lavitabellissima · 29/10/2010 18:05

My friend painted her belly like a pumpkin a few years ago and scared all the neighbour hood kids! it was really funny!

Good luck smokey [hgrin] not long for you too Swazzee!
