Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

jjkm sounds like the twins are strong and little fighters . Have been thinking about you and hope they continue to get better.

As for me, I am physically struggling now. I am getting painful braxton hicks together with mild contrx too. Actually thought last night it could all kick off but it calmed down when I went to bed. The bh seem to start with a vengeance around this time of night though and I can feel them as I type. In laws arrive tomorrow do quite happy to go into labour just to get out of the house!!!

Lavitabellissima · 30/10/2010 23:25

Smokey laughing at your hope of going into labour to escape the outlaws! hope you are feeling ok though, our thread is going to be very different within a few weeks with all these new arrivals!

JJKM Glad to get the update, sounds like they are doing well, you too. Hope you start feeling better soon, what are the names you've chosen? big hugs for you [hsmile]

Jenzopos · 30/10/2010 23:34

jjkm glad your little ones are doing ok, must have been quite a shock to have them so early!

smokeybacon i feel your pain...physically fed up and everything is tiring!

VictoriaSecrets · 31/10/2010 11:06

Hi everyone, i'm new here and found out a few weeks ago that we are expecting twins (very unplanned!). I'm just over 11 weeks, and due for the Nuchal fold scan tomorrow. I'm feeling really worried that something may have changed/gone wrong since the scan we had at about 8 weeks as i've been looking on the internet and read so many horror stories Confused... Anyway... the main thing bothering me is that when I lie flat on my back my little bump is all on the right hand side, and completely flat on the left - does this mean that something has happened to one of the babies or anything? I'm dreading going to the scan tomorrow and them telling me something has happened :(

Thanks very much for any advice!!

x

smokeybacon · 31/10/2010 11:13

Hi Victoria. Welcome and congrats. I feel your scan pain. I dreaded every one up till , well about now really. Maybe your beans are lying in positions to make your bump one sided? They move and shift a lot as mine were on top of each other like bunk beds in the early weeks till they settled side by side. But there are so many ways they could lie. Difficult not to worry tho. And good luck with the scan.

VictoriaSecrets · 31/10/2010 11:24

Hi Smokeybacon!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly - i've been scanning the internet again! The only things I can find about lopsided bumps seem to be about singletons or people who's babies are much further down the line. I feel a strange mix of emotions at the minute I have to say, and not sure i'm coping very well with the whole pregnancy thing! I hope they have just moved over to one side, but on the scan we had at about 8 weeks they looked like they had 2 separate sacs and were next to each other, although maybe the whole lot can move around? Blush - i'm embarrassed at how little I really know about what is going on despite the hours i've spent reading things!!

Thanks again

x

VictoriaSecrets · 31/10/2010 11:26

BTW - are you feeling any better now - i've noticed from your recent posts that you are close to meeting the babies... I bet you can't wait!!

x

Jenzopos · 31/10/2010 16:51

victoriasecrets im 36 weeks and still sometimes have a lopsided belly...its prob just the way they are lying :)

VictoriaSecrets · 31/10/2010 19:43

Hi Jenzoos - thanks for your post - it is reassuring to hear that other people have the same sort of thing and all is well... I have the scan tomorrow, so hopefully will find out that it's all ok and they've just moved over to one side or something.. but think it will be a bit of a long night!

The other thing that is worrying me is that we told my parents and my OH parents last week as they had sensed that something was up, and they were super excited, so now for some reason I feel even more desperate for everything to be ok. We did keep sayingto them that is was a bit riskier, but they were so excited, guessing names etc. and I just feel a bit overwhelmed!

Thanks again,

x

VictoriaSecrets · 31/10/2010 19:44

Sorry - I spelt Jenzopos wrong on the last post - got a bit carried away typing and missed the 'p' :)

Lavitabellissima · 31/10/2010 20:38

Welcome VictoriaSecrets like your name [hsmile]

Good luck for your scan tomorrow, I have my 34 week one! not long now, I'm getting scared!

VictoriaSecrets · 31/10/2010 22:30

Hi Lavitabellissima!

Thankyou very much - i'll let everyone know how it goes, fingers crossed though! :)

Is it your scan tomorrow too? Much further along than me, must be exciting as well as scary though - and reassuring to have made it to 34 weeks :) :)

Well- good luck for tomorrow, and i'll check back if all goes well!

Amberc · 01/11/2010 09:05

Hi Victorasecrets - hope the scan goes well today. People's bodesi are strange and I wouldn't worry too much - the shape of my tummy sometimes makes me wonder what on earth is going on in there but we are all different. They are so little at 11/12 weeks that I can't imagine their positioning would make too mcuh difference. It'll probably even out in a week or so! Oh and as for worries - I am constantly worried comething's going to go wrong and I'm 27 week - it doesn't go!!

jjkm - so glad to hear the babies are OK!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 01/11/2010 13:00

Hope everyone is feeling well especially after having an extra hour!

Good to hear that the twins are getting stronger jjkm and fantastic that one is off the ventilator :) Hang in there x

Victoria and Lavita I hope your scans have gone well today :)

Smokey did you manage to go into labour to avoid the inlaws??! Glad its not just me that dreads my scans. My anomaly scan in in 2 weeks eek.

All ok here although slightly anxious about movements which are there but have had little the last 2 days. I know it's still fairly early days (at 20 weeks) and nothing is regular yet plus me big old placenta is at the front and low but I still can't help but worry..........anyhoo 8 weeks left at work or 35 days Wooohoooo!

Amberc · 01/11/2010 13:13

35 days sounds loads less than 8 weeks - am I being dumb - you mean working days - doh!

Am I being really stupid in so much as I haven't bought a single item yet at 27 weeks? I joined the ante natal thread for January and most of them are all bought up even though twins come sooner!!

VictoriaSecrets · 01/11/2010 13:15

Hi everyone! - Just returned from the scan - 2 little babies bouncing around all over the place - all looks very well so far, got to wait for the blood test results but the measurements etc. look great. We are so relieved it's unbelievable... the trouble is as soon as i've had one scan I want another to keep checking! It will feel like a long wait now until the 20 week scan in December!

Magic 8 - try not to worry about it, I spoke wwith the sonographer today and asked when i mmight feel things, and she said from about 16 weeks, but that they go through a period of less movement at around 20-24 weeks whilst they settle into a position, then start moving around again the nearer it gets... I can't speak from experience though! Don't have a clue what to expect!!

The next thing i'm googling like crazy is natural birth v's cesarean, if I get the option... does anyone have a view from experience as i'm worried about the recovery time from cesarean, but worried about other bits with natural delivery... perhaps i'm getting ahead of myself Wink. This is the first time i've really felt excited since we found out

:) :) :)

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 01/11/2010 13:23

yep working days, but that does mean its 8 weeks until crimbo Grin Amberc how have you restrained from not buying anything?

Good news Victoria its so lovely to see them wriggling around! Thanks for the info on the movement :) Funny enough one of them kicked me while I was posting on another thread!

VictoriaSecrets · 01/11/2010 13:32

Grin it was fab... having a good day today, and somehow don't feel as sick or drained... maybe it's all in my head!

just read back my post and it looks like i'm stuttering! must have some sticky keys on the keyboard Shock

Snowfalls108 · 01/11/2010 14:01

Congrats VictoriaSecrets - your previous emails could have been written by me! I'm 10 weeks today, and I've got another 2 and half weeks till my next scan. At least then because they're identical I'll get another one at 16 weeks and then every 2 weeks. Although what I'm going to do with DS during all those I don't know! Do you have any other DC's?

VictoriaSecrets · 01/11/2010 14:19

Hi Snowfalls :)
By the sounds of it most people go through similar feelings... i only had my scan this morning and I feel as though I want an Ultrasound unit in my house so I can check everyday!

Have you had previous scans? When was your last one? Congrats on the identical twins - that's very exciting :)

I have to say, i know it's a bit pants getting bad morning sickness etc with twins, but it's somehow reassuring to get more scans, people with singletons must be climbing the walls! I think my next one is at 20 weeks, then monthly after that if all looks ok...

We don't have any other children yet, but OH is already planning a football team i think Shock... think we need to get through this one first.

Can your OH look after DS, is DS of an age were he's likely to sit still? He might find it quite exciting :)

Yesterday I thought I was about 11 weeks, but heard today they are measuring at 11+6 so nearly at 12 :o ... bonus, we got a free week!

Cerubina · 01/11/2010 15:29

Hi all

Welcome VictoriaSecrets and I'm glad to hear all went well with the scan today. We are 3 weeks ahead of you so only recently had the 12 week scan and ours were also jiggling around, which looked so funny. Like you almost the minute I've left the hospital I find myself wanting more reassurance that everything's OK - I think this is natural but it can be really hard not to worry about what is and isn't normal or what might go wrong! We should probably leave Google well alone.

Excuse me being curious - when you say the twins were "very unplanned" does that mean you weren't even planning to get pregnant at all? I can imagine it's a HELL of a shock if so! But it sounds as if you and your partner are beginning to be excited?

Smokey if you're ready to get on with things then I hope the BH turn into the real thing very soon. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Amber I can see me getting to that point and not buying anything either. I'm struggling with indecisiveness, slight superstition and a touch of blase-ness too, but I have a feeling it is better to at least do some window shopping and make tentative decisions if not commit to the purchases! Do you know what you might want to buy at least, or have you not started looking yet?

I guess the worst thing is to have to buy everything in a great hurry when you have to rather than when you want to/have the time to. We have made our first steps towards some new car research. At the moment we have a coupe and that will definitely not work with twins - just have to balance practicality with something my husband will not feel ashamed of driving! And we need the car to be sorted before we buy the car seats or buggy, so potentially a few essentials are going to be backing up if we don't crack on.

I bought my first maternity clothes at the weekend - a pair of trousers and a silky wrap top for work. It's really odd - in the normal clothes that I can still get into it's reasonably easy to disguise that I'm pregnant, but when I put those things on I immediately looked about 5 months! It is so nice to see a bump beginning to emerge and I am impatient for it to get bigger and look completely 'proper' (those of you much further along will probably be saying silly girl for wanting a bigger bump!)

For those eager for nipple news...they are still sore, some things don't seem to change much! At times it feels as though there are needles being poked in them. Sorry if TMI!

holidays2010 · 01/11/2010 15:50

Hey girls, had my 20 week scan today - all is well but got v.dissappointed when hubby didnt even ask me how it went!
He said he's not like other people as his excuse for not asking.
So feeling alone on the excitement but guess not everythings like you see on tv! 'shrug'

VictoriaSecrets · 01/11/2010 15:57

Hi Cerubina,

Thanks for your post - great to hear from people who are at a similar stage :). I've definitely decided to steer clear of google, sadly it seems like the majority of things that people discuss in great detail is when something goes wrong, which is probably a good way of dealing with it, but very scary!!

Yes - we hadn't planned on babies for a few more years yet! The irony is that I was almost super paranoid about taking the pill on time etc... TBH though can pretty much pinpoint the moment as i'd had an upset stomach a couple of days before but it didn't even cross our minds... (sorry if TMI!). I would be interested to hear how many women who get pregnant on the pill have truly taken it as directed and made sure to be careful with upset tummies and the like... Ah well, I was initially shocked, and still unprepared/petrified, but in a way feel quite lucky too, i think the shock and upset of not being able to conceive would be worse! The OH has been over the moon from the second he found out, which helped too but I have to say seeing them doing gymnastics today gave me a little flutter of something more than excitement :)

VictoriaSecrets · 01/11/2010 16:03

Hi holidays

Congrats on the scan news - I bet you have been on a high since you saw the pictures... a cross between the anticipation of seeing them again and the worry incase there's anything up, the relief afterwards is huge, so not surprised you are miffed at hubby's reaction. He's probably trying to play it a bit cool so he's got some control over what's happening! Did you find out the sex or are you keeping it a surprise?

I had my 12 week scan today so i'll share your super excitement on here Grin
