Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Thanks Swazzee, (what is SPD?) I'll probably pop in to see the GP if it gets bad, so far I just feel it when I get in/out of bed. Or mention it to the midwife...?

Cerubina - I was realy tired in my first trimester, even took naps in the day, but now my energy has returned,(maybe not to what it was but carrying two is tiring!)

I'm booked in for a twin class in December but have no idea if it will be any good - DH doesnt believe there's anything anyone can tell me that I dont know already. :P
But I think it's especially good for first time mums.

Thanks for those replies - fingers crossed I can look forward to a bit more energy in a few weeks. As for nips I think it might just be time to replace bras! I'm using E45 on them daily but it doesn't seem to make much difference, I think the problem is that they're standing out like tent pegs (TMI?!) and catching on the fabric. Something that fits more snugly in a soft material might well help and it's a reason to go shopping so why not eh...

Got a reply from NCT today offering us a place on a standard course which I had also enquired about - £350! Jeez, they know how to charge don't they? Presumably they'll find a way to hike it even more for the twin version. I'll look up Tamba as well, thanks Magic8.

Swazzee, hope the last week at work goes well and you get some lovely presents from your colleagues! Enjoy putting your feet up next week.

cerubina tiredness. Hmmmmm. I think it is so much harder work on our bodies making two babies and I never got my energy back even in the 2nd trimester. Are you taking iron tablets? This may help as I noticed that when we went on holiday at week 25 and I forgot my iron tablets, I felt noticeably worse.

The bad news is that in the third trimester, the tiredness gets even worse!!

Amberc · 19/10/2010 20:49

jjkm bath support

The baby can lie in it completely supported. You can put them in a baby bath too but they don't all fit.

thingamajig · 19/10/2010 22:02

Hi everybody, haven't posted for ages - I think I have been asleep for most of it. I do have more energy than in the first trimester, but that isn't saying a lot.
I'm 18 weeks now and have a definite bump at last, though I'm not feeling anything yet (that can't be put down to wind Grin ). I saw the consultant yesterday and he says thats fine but to expect something in the next couple of weeks. I had a scan and they were happily wriggling away! I will be having scans every fortnight from now on as my twins are identical and share a placenta (MC/DA).
I am ridiculously, hormonally moody, and am going from floods of tears at how I will be utterly incapable of looking after two babies to grinning like a fool when I look at tiny clothes in the space of an hour. Please tell me that you are all similarly irrational as I feel terrible!

holidays2010 · 20/10/2010 10:46

My hormones are all over the place, one minute I'm fine then I get in a right temper for no reason or I start feeling all soppy and cry over nothing!
:o

But woke up with a sore throat today so guess it's another week with a cold for me :(

holidays2010 · 20/10/2010 10:47

Ooo just spotted the halloween smileys! How cute, [hgrin]
Couldnt resist!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 20/10/2010 12:49

jjkm & amberc I had this bath support for dd1 see here It's made of towelling and she never slipped down in it as it was soft, but I think she used to get cold quite quickly. My sis has just bought the big foam sponge thing which they can lay in see here which looks more comfy and possibly warmer as the sponge will soak up the water. They fit in a baby bath.

Just one other thing that you could add to your list which I found a godsend (although I used a towel at first) is a changing mat cover so you don't have to lay them on a cold changing mat when they are tiny. Mothercare do one to go over their wedge changing mat see here

Thingamajig I am 18 weeks with MC/DA twins too [hsmile] also having fortnightly scans and due for one next week. Been having some random flutters but no kicks yet. My hormones seem to have settled and I feel quite calm at the moment (which wont last!!!)!

Is anyone going to the baby show? (I think we might have covered this already but my brain is fried).

Have a nice day everyone!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 20/10/2010 12:51

smokey I love my dreamgenii - money well spent! Sassy how is your double bundle doing?

Amberc · 20/10/2010 16:47

A good cheapo alternative to changing mat covers is a pack of terry nappies - £6 for 10 or something at mothercare. Also those cheapo towels you can buy at Asda/Sainsbury's etc.

smokeybacon · 20/10/2010 18:02

Pants. Just been to mw. BP high. Lower reading 92 and then 97. Quite a jump from the last time which was 81, 2 weeks ago. Have to go back in for another check on Friday which will be high as I have DS2 with me on Friday. 17 month old does not a relaxing morning make!

Then, on way back from a very relaxing pregnancy massage, started getting a stabbing pain in right side of bump, like stitch. Stopped me in my tracks. I think I've had it before and its round ligament pain, ie nothing to worry about. Will keep an eye on it and if it continues, will ring hospital. Feels better now am sat down. Looks like DH will be doing bathtime on his own tonight whilst I put my feet up.

changing mat covers I just used a muslin cloth.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 20/10/2010 19:23

I used a towel for a while but drove me bonkers with a wriggly baby once dd realised she could move [hgrin]

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 20/10/2010 19:27

Hope your BP comes down Smokey and your pains don't come back - rest up :)

Jenzopos · 20/10/2010 20:51

got a scan tomorrow and really hoping the babies are showing signs of coming....I'm so uncomfy and sleep deprived! Hoping I don't go to 40 weeks!

Pains gone now. Think it was ligament pain/stretching. So just watching the apprentice with my feet up.

Hope scan goes well jenzopos.

Cerubina · 21/10/2010 09:17

Good luck for the scan Jenzopos and hope there are signs of progress.

Pains sound unpleasant Smokey so I hope an evening of relaxation has put paid to them.

I've picked up a cold and am taking today off work, just feel a bit wiped out by it. I went to see the midwife yesterday and met a new twins mum while I was waiting to go in - she had 12-week old twins (absolutely gorgeous) and looked like a good advert for them as she had make up on, no bags under her eyes and seemed very calm! She gave me a good tip for buying stuff which anyone in South London/Surrey might be interested in - the A3 Baby Barn near Surbiton. She says they offer really good discounts for twins and will open specially for you if you ring up- could be a chance to feel like a celeb and save some cash!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/10/2010 11:11

Thanks for the link Cerubina that's not far from me will have a look! Wish you better soon, rest up!

Good luck with scan today Jenzopoz. Glad pains have gone Smokey after some chill time.

Amberc · 21/10/2010 11:14

I've been to that place Cerubina! I bought a M&P cheapo buggy for £45 reduced from £75. It does have a fault though so I think some of their things are end of lines and seconds. Certainly got bargains though and the woman said she could get anything from the M&P catalogue with notice.

Smokey - glad pains gone. I get pains too and always worry.

MyFourGirls · 21/10/2010 16:24

I've had pains on several occasions exactly as you describe smokey on right under side of bump...really sharp burning pain - at times excruciating... I also had it with DD2 and went in to be monitored where the pains disappeared but they wanted to keep me in for hours - v frustrating...

I too thought it was ligament or something but because it's always on the right and always in the same spot i now think it's something digestive. We're allowed to take co-codamol which i thoroughly recommend when it is excruciating as it does take the edge of it then lie on you left side and massage painful area in a clockwise motion (did this today for about 20mins) and it did send it on it's way... Of course if you feel instinctively that there might be something wrong always call hospital/midwife but somehow inspite of the acute pain i've always known it's to do with the bump pressing somewhere it shouldn't...

hope that helps if it happens again - i'm 33 weeks and have had it intermitently for the last 2/3 weeks and can't do anything if it strikes except go horizontal. Smile

Jenzopos · 21/10/2010 18:21

hey all, babies nice and big but still breech..docs trying to push for a elective cs....not what i want....

sassy34264 · 21/10/2010 18:47

Magic8ball Hi, The babies are doing really well. They are both smiling now and it's so gorgeous when they look right at you and smile. Jacob has been doing it for just over a week now, but Isobel has only started doing it in last few days and only if you nibbled her chin, but last night she gave me her first voluntary smile. :)

Glad scans are going well and hope you are all not suffering too much.
You only need twin 1 (the presenting twin to be head down Jenzopos (i think) and they will be ok with a VB. Good luck.
