Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

tabby I haven't bought anything either and I'm 24 weeks. Nothing at all! Am going to do a spreadsheet and work out discounts you get with the tamba membership.

My midwife urged me to go to the twin antenatal class so I'm booked to go in December...Hubby not going as he'll have to look after FB, so I guess I'll be the only one there without a partner! I hate that... :P

Amberc · 12/10/2010 13:24

|Even though I am on my second pregnancy I am going to NCT classes (to make friends more than anything) but will be completely alone for all of them!

Swazzee · 12/10/2010 14:03

Haha Tabby I love it too when you actually see the kick. Sometimes I just sit watching my belly and it's like watching a plate of jelly as they roll around. I had thought they would be running out of room and I'd feel them less at 33 weeks, but they're still pretty active. But I was 25 weeks before I could see or feel the movements from the outside - I only felt the first internal movements from 21 weeks.

I have started getting stuff, but not bought anything myself yet! Having my baby shower on Saturday and set up a gift list at Mothercare. My lovely brother has already bought two Moses baskets and there are some towels and a bath set that people have bought, and some other things. My mum has knitted some bootees and hats and bought a set of vests and sleepsuits. Guess we should start buying stuff ourselves now.

Amber I love the idea of a spreadsheet complete with discounts, but as a project manager by day I couldn't bear the thought of doing that for a 'home project'!!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 12/10/2010 14:30

Scan all good this morning so I am VERY smiley and much less anxious. I had 4 tiny feet dancing about! No sign of TTTS and both almost exactly the same size.

Ladies the Asda baby event is on don't forget :)

smokeybacon · 12/10/2010 14:32

Afternoon ladies.

How are we all??

swazzee mine are also still v active and the bump moves like jelly too. I am wondering just how much bigger I can get. Do you get pain in your groin area, just below the bump? It feels like its bruised and am guessing that its just increased pressure with 2 heads being down there, but man, its painful especially when getting from lying down to sitting up.

I have had some bump pics done and will try to link.

smokeybacon · 12/10/2010 14:39

bump pics

Amberc · 12/10/2010 16:54

smokey I think we can only see them if we are facebook friends - your son is mega cute though!

holidays2010 · 12/10/2010 17:02

Smokey - that sounds like pressure from the babies and all your ligaments being loosened...I read it in my twin book from the library :o

Wish I could have a baby shower...but the only people that know about the pregnancy are either too far away or just not getting in contact .. :s
And one of those people are my DH's very own sister...she's known about the pregnancy since I was 10 weeks and hasnt even called yet to see how we are!
...That isnt normal is it?

Am I missing something?? I thought baby showers were just an Americanism? I'm not sure what I think of the idea really... I prefer the idea of having a pre babies girlie party, like a last ditch girly night in. A friend of mine asked if I was going to have a shower and I said no, maybe I'll have a party and then there'd be no pressure to HAVE to buy something. I don't know... what are other peoples opinions on them and when do you think is the best time to have one? To mix friendship groups or not? Keep work separate?

Hi everyone. Hope you are all well.
We are all suffering unfortunately. Babies have oral thrush and i have nipple thrush. Sooooooooooooo painful. Hope you all avoid it. Suffered for 5 days because i thought it was just latching problems causing the pain. On medication now, so hopefully will clear up soon.

With regards to the length of time spent in hospital jjkm - i think it depends on whether you have a c-section or not, how early you are and also on the babies health.
I was 35+5 and i was told that they look at if they can control their own temperature (mine couldn't at 1st) and their blood sugars (Isobel's were too low and she spent 12hours in SBCU being tube fed), jaundice ( which they didn't show signs of till after) and weight gain/loss. Not to mention if they can breathe without help.

So in short......there is no way of knowing! :o

Hello everyone!
Glad you all seem ok, tho hope the thrush clears up asap sassy as I know how painful that can be!
I'm hoping not to be as long in hospital as I was with DS (about a week in total, pre & post birth), but as I know that as best laid plans etc I'm trying not to count on anything.
I'm 33 weeks tomorrow, and looking huuuge - when I saw the midwife last monday at 31+5 i was measuring 42cm! She said if I wasn't having twins she'd be sending me for a growth scan.... Which I have next week anyway!
No baby shower here, but that's mainly cos it's 2&3 for us - I had a small one for DS thrown by my best mate, but mainly a 'get all the girls together for tea & cakes'.
I have made a list of the few bits I need to get, and my sister is coming down at the weekend with her cot etc that I'm going to borrow. Just one more week at work and then I can go into full on nesting mode
Take care everyone xx

Amberc · 12/10/2010 21:12

I had a baby shower with DS. It was fab! We had such a good time and everyone (except me) got pissed up on pink champagne. We just made sandwiches and had little nibbles and a cake. Got all my friends together and some husbands and a couple of kiddies. Got some lovely presents and had fun opening them and cooing over stuff. Won't be having another though as it's definitely a first baby thing. I do know someone who had a second baby baby shower too though.

Sassy - ky sis had thrush and she said it was agony so I hope you get better soon. My DS had oral thrush a few months back. Don't know where he got it from but it wasn't very nice for him as the white spots turned into raw red lesions and made eating p[ainful. Also tis much harder administering oral gel to a little one with sharp teeth!

Lavitabellissima · 13/10/2010 08:44

Yeah It's my last day at work Grin bring on the maternity leave, 5 weeks to go!!

Smokey I have that bruised feeling too, it's so uncomfortable, I'm looking forward to having my body back, hopefully it won't be too stretched Smile

My friends threw a baby shower for me, it was lovely, food, presents & games. I wouldn't organise one for myself, seems a bit presumptous (sp?) but loved it and was made to feel very special!

Sasy Hope you and the babies are feeling better and you are ready for all the questions you'll be getting from all of us once our twins are born. You are the experienced one now!

7 hours and 21 mins at work to go Grin

smokeybacon · 13/10/2010 09:43

lavita enjoy your last day at work!!

sassy hope you and your lovely babies feel better. SOunds painful.

No baby shower here either but some of the girls and me are getting together tomorrow eve to have our nails done. Wish I could have a few drinks with them though......

jjkm the baby shower games sound a bit cringey so I'm with you there, but its nice to have a your mates round like you say for a bit of a party.

Am also off for a pregnancy massage in a min. Figure that I blooming deserve some treats carrying these huge bump around. I have also been waking up every night about 3am ish with the bump/my stomach in pain - a bit like I am about to (ahem) need the loo or throw up. Nothing happens and it passes but its a bit wierd that its happened the last three nights. I put on the tv and saw the beginning of the chilean mine rescue this morning when it woke me up.

Finally, a bit of a WWYD/AIBU. DH has been really good in helping with the DSs and taking some of the pressure of me recently but on Friday he is doing this:

Playing tennis from 6.30 to 9am (yes really - he actually does this every week) so I'm on my own to get the two DSs up and ready. The bump means that this is getting increasingly hard work. Then he and his mates (all dads) are goiing to a beer festival from 1pm so I will have DS2 all day on my own and have to pick up DS1 from school and then do tea/bath/bed on my own.Again its the bump that makes this problematic as I did it yesterday and the bump was really painful on the walk home from nursery pick up.

Then there is the hangover to factor in, but the possibility that at 34 weeks on Friday, anything could happen!!

He says its his final fling and of course, he deserves to let his hair down a bit, but how far should I put my foot down about drinking? I don't want to spoil his fun but on the other hand, well, I'm sure you can see what I'm saying.

Lavitabellissima · 13/10/2010 09:51

Smokey my DP has been out the last 2 nights, I think he's getting scared that he'll never go out again!

Do you have any friends/family that can help out for the day?

sassy34264 · 13/10/2010 10:33

Thanks everyone. Yes amberc it is agony, but i'm on the 2nd day of treatment today and it is easing each feed.

smokeybacon If it was me, I would tell him he has to miss the tennis for once, as expecting you to go all day pregnant with twins and two LO's is too much. As for the drinking, i wouldn't tell him how much he can drink but i would remind him that if you go into labour and he's too drunk in the night to drive, or he goes to the hospital drunk, you won't be happy.
Don't they just get on your fecking nerves! We don't drink or go out proper for 9months (longer for me cos i'm breast feeding) and they can't go the last 4 weeks without it being about taking their freedom!
My DP made a comment about when can he go out to wet the babies head? My answer was when can i! ARGH. Men.

Lavita I don't know about experienced, more like suffering through! :o
Feel free to ask though and i will endeavour to help. I can tell you one thing that i wish i'd done before i had them.......bought a sling. I had one with dd but thought i won't need one cos it's twins and i can't hold them both. Didn't enter my head that 1 may sleep while the other is awake. Mine seem to bloody well take it in turns- i'm sure they planned it in the womb! :)

Jenzopos · 13/10/2010 11:03

hey all

I'm not having a baby shower but some friends are organising a tea party instead..where we can all pretend to be sophisticated lol!

Getting fed up now...34+1 and I'm huge...add that to itchy stretch marks, carpal tunnel, swollen feet and ankles (BP and urine fine though) and I feel so heavy I might burst!

Getting a lot of braxton hicks over the past 2 days so hoping that's a sign it wont be too much longer! I want my body back!

as far as men go mine still thinks i can get cooking and housework done...even the most basic tasks are so hard to do at the moment!
men!

Amberc · 13/10/2010 12:46

Smokey I would say go for the drink up but not the tennis - one thing or the other. I would also ask him to specify exactly what time he will be home before and to make sure he realises that a hangover is no excuse for helping out the following day.

Re baby shower games - mine were great - one was a special CD that they made all with baby related songs (like hit me baby one more time, baby baby supremes etc) and we had to guess the track and artist. Another was guessing loads of famous celebs from their baby pictures. Not too cheesy I don't think!

Sassy - I will deffo be digging out my old baby bjorn. It was a life saver with my first. Also I saw on multiple mums another woman who bought a bean bag for putting one down while holding the other which I thought was a good idea.

I feel grim and emotional today. My hormones have gone rampant and I am getting no sleep at all which makes things worse. Been thinking a lot about my mum and dad who both died. I guess new life makes you think about thinks like that Sad

sassy34264 · 13/10/2010 13:08

So sorry about your mum and dad amberc. My mum has been great and i would find it hard to not have her. :( Hope you have other sources of help.
With regards to buying a bean bag- I bought 2 cots, but as they are small i have put them both in one cot in my room (to be truthful though they mostly sleep with me as dp isn't here) and put the other in the front room, so they can sleep in it during the day. Also, i have found sitting them in the car seats invaluable cos they are upright it helps with their wind. (I have 2 bouncey chairs but the babies are too small and keep falling over the side!) So there are things you can use that you already have without buying new if you don't want to. :o

Some of you are close now!!!!! So happy for you, and jealous, wish i could do the birth day again......it's so (at the risk of sounding soppy) magical! :)

Snowfalls108 · 14/10/2010 12:59

Hello all.

Wow - I don't think I have been this exhausted. It's completely different than from with DS. Any tips for getting through it? Tell me it gets better!

I had a baby shower last time, it was lovely. Held for me by my 2 best friends, we had about 16 people. We had a lovely tea and everyone had to guess the size of my bump and then what the sex and weight of the baby would be. I opened lots of pressies and we got all thoroughly in the baby mood.

Jenzopos · 14/10/2010 14:47

hey snowfalls..the tiredness does get better for a while and comes back once you get big due to sleep deprivation! (by which point you are too big to do much during the day!)

I've started getting period type pains, erratic braxtons and my belly has dropped so it wont be long now.
