anyone else expecting twins?!?!?

Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Amber, mine were always booked in for 28, 32, and 36 weeks. Think it's only every two weeks if they were sharing placenta or sac - mine are DC/DA. But like with many things, what NHS area you're in may make a difference too.

Welcome nevercansaygoodbye - looks like you're having a tough start - hoping everything goes well from now on.

Feeling massive this week and DH is trying to convince me to give up work now. I only have 2 weeks left and it's not a bad idea. Specially as I've had nightmare commutes with delayed buses and cancelled trains this week. Going to try and work from home 2 days next week and see if that makes things easier.

I'm lucky I work for the public sector as I've been on sick pay for a while now (don't start my maternity till 36 weeks as thats the earliest they can make you if you are off sick)

I get full pay due to by job, so lucky in that respect!

holidays2010 · 08/10/2010 07:26

I've read that unless you 'take it easy' in the last month of pregnancy (for twin carriers) you'll have them early...wonder if it's true...

I have my 16 week appointment on Monday but no scan till 20 weeks. I'll actually be 17 weeks when I go to my scan on Monday.

Hope everyone is well.

sassy34264 · 08/10/2010 07:47

I never took it easy and i had mine a month early holidays, so there may be something in it. But it may just be that i couldn't stretch anymore with them being 7lbs 6 and 6lbs 10.

The babies are 8 weeks today........it's going too fast!

Hope you are all well (relatively speaking obviously) :o

smokeybacon · 08/10/2010 09:34

Morning everyone!

Hello nevercansay. Hoping that you have an uneventful pg and you stay with us!

amber glad you had a good hol and welcome back

swazee Seriously. Stop work now. Put your feet up and get some rest! We are about the same stage and if I had 2 weeks left at work, I would be on my knees. I can't get through a day without some sort of nap at the moment so the thought of being at work...Please listen to your sensible DH!!

Had my 33 week scan yesterday. Both babies head down and estimated weight is about 5lb each!!! I know those estimates can be out quite a lot but the sonographer thought they would be fairly accurate as she got some good measurements. Consultant wants me back in 3 weeks and will give me a date for induction then if I am still pg, between 37 and 38 weeks. Its all getting close now....

We have our new car though!!! Its farking HUGE!!!! I am going to drive it this morning and i'm a little nervous. DH only arrived back with it yesterday. He had to go all the way to Edinburgh for it as these cars don't come up very often. I had very specific requirements - permanant 7 seater (don't forget I have 2 DSs already!!!) and boot space big enough for the buggy, and sliding doors. so it came down to the Chrysler Grand Voyager. Thankfully, we didn't have to pay for it ourselves. DH gets a car through work so they are paying for it.

Right better get out of the house and take DS2 to soft play. Have good days everyone. x

Jenzopos · 08/10/2010 10:44

I'm due a scan in 2 weeks to check positioning...hoping they are now head down as the hard round shape has gone form the top and i'm feeling lots of weight on my lower belly and pelvis!(fingers crossed)

I don't like the idea of being induced (as this can cause other problems)..though hoping I don't go to 40 weeks!

After getting car seats delivered my other half has realised that the ford KA that we have is too small (finally!) so we need to look for a bigger car! (with 5 doors!). The seats will fit the car but will be tricky getting babies in and out(and no room for a buggy in the boot)

Amberc · 08/10/2010 12:47

Jenzopos I massively recommend the renault scenic. I got one as there is room for 3 at the back but it has a massive boot as well. I am so pleased with it as a relatively small car with plenty of space.

Sassy I can't believe the babies are 8 weeks already!!

I am having a 4d scan tomorrow which gets made into a DVD. It's very much a pfb thing but we got one for Luke so we can't not have one for these too in case they get older and want to watch their one!!

Snowfalls108 · 08/10/2010 13:22

Hi all,

so I've read some of the thread but there's so much of it I though I would introduce myself before reading the rest.
I just found out today I'm expecting twins, they're identical, and I'm only 5 weeks 6 days. I thought I was 7 weeks so annoying to be put back a week. I already have DC who is aged 12 months, and I had a very early mc in August.

The scan result was a bit of a shock, although strangely enough I'd said to DP last night wouldn't it be weird if it was twins.

Both babies had very strong heartbeats which is positive but having had the mc in August I'm in a bit of tiss about having another one. Although that time we never saw anything. What are the stats like for twins and mc?

Anyway I will continue reading through the thread now. Hello!

Swazzee · 08/10/2010 16:27

Snowfalls welcome. Nice that you've found out so early it's twins. I was having my 13 week scan when I found out. But DH had been banging on since we found out I was pregnant (at 6 weeks) that he was sure we were having twins - I had no such premonitions on the other hand!

Yes, smokey you're right of course. I have a few things going on next week which I want to be around for, but may approach my manager on Monday with a view to leaving next Friday instead of the one after.

On a completely different subject, has anyone else felt hiccups yet? I'm sure that just before lunch one of mine had a little bout of the hiccups. I'd never felt anything that regular before - it was like a little heartbeat for a couple of minutes. Very cool Smile

Amberc · 08/10/2010 16:35

I had hiccups with my first all the time - it's cool to start with and then they get thm in the middle of the night and it's not so cool!

Hi Snowfalls and welcome fingers crossed everything turns out alright for you - you're going to be a very busy woman in 8 months time! I have a DS aged 2.4 so can appreciate!

My first DD got hiccups all the time!
Everytime I tell people this though they look at me funny. :p

tabbycat76 · 09/10/2010 09:57

No hiccups yet thankfully but crikey how wriggly and nocturnal are they at night?!?!? Getting to the point now that it's keeping me awake.... hmm, shame you can't train them when inutero!

So Im 17 weeks from tomorrow, how long before I start feeling movement/kicking? It's been so long since I had my first I've lost touch...
And I've read those with multiples can feel movement sooner than those with singletons but it isnt proven...

Lavitabellissima · 10/10/2010 18:20

Holidays, I think everyone is different but you should feel something fairly soon. I could feel bubble like sensations quite early on like 12 weeks but mine are super active.
It seems like they are constantly awake. They were very fond of the music on x factor last night!

Welcome Snowfalls My identical girls are due in 5 weeks and 2 days.... Congratulations. Where abouts are you based? lots of scans when you are having identicals, I feel like I spend so much time at the hospital although not for much longer Grin

Thank you all for the welcome. It is nice to know, however I've done the stupid google searches and have now got myself panicked about vanishing twin syndrome. I'm hoping the fact that they both had strong heartbeats and were pretty identical is size is promising.

I'm also in SW London Lavitabellissima. Which hospital are you booked into?

I think I'm going to be huge. With DS I was vast, and that was just one baby.

Goodness there's a lot to get your head round isn't there!

Lavitabellissima · 11/10/2010 13:12

Snowfalls try not to google too much, it can get overwhelming, you will be monitored very closely with identicals anyway.

I am at West Mid but am hoping to transfer to Queen Charlotte where I have shared care (alternate scans at each hospital) as I have a Bupa policy that covers C sections for medical reasons.

I measured my waist yesterday, I'm 31 weeks and measure 41inches around!! Blush I feel enormous. Only 2 more days at work though Grin

Swazzee · 11/10/2010 16:13

I've stopped googling anything pregnancy related - too much info to worry yourself with!

I went to an antenatal class on Saturday. My hospital does just a one-off, so I've done my bit now. It was quite interesting - she went through pain relief options and the stages of labour, and advice on when to call the hospital (basically for anything). Glad I went, but also glad I won't have to go again - hate that kind of thing! Specially as DH was working, and out of 20 or so people I was the only one without a man!! I also looked far bigger than everyone else in the room, despite being 32 weeks while they were all around 37.

Lavita mine were kicking all the way through X-Factor too - I translated it as them thinking it was as rubbish as I was thinking it was, but perhaps they were really enjoying it!!

Jenzopos · 11/10/2010 17:24

I'm getting really massive now...my bump has changed shape and sits lower than it did...midwife reckons I don't have long left as things are getting very tight in there...so tight she could not tell how they are positioned....another scan booked in 2 weeks.

fingers crossed they are head down!

Hi ladies hope you are all well, haven't been posting much as still in kitchen hell and been quite anxious about the twins because of my history the last week or so. Have a scan in the morn (17 weeks tomorrow) and I feel very anxious despite hearing their heartbeats on Thurs.

Holidays I have felt some movements since about 12 weeks but this is my 3rd pregnancy. However the flutters have not increased in intensity or frequency and sometimes I don't feel anything all day (which does make me anxious despite my consultant is is still early to feel anything and I have an anterior placenta).

jjkm no idea on stay times, have you been on a materinty tour - perhaps you could ask on the unit?

Not long to go Lavita & Jenz!

Got to go DD1 has woken up..............catch up tomorrow.

tabbycat76 · 12/10/2010 08:26

I felt movements, well more bubble sensations really from about 16 weeks. Mine were quite light in feeling, and some days I wouldn't feel anything at all. The midwife said that wasn't uncommon and that it was a bit early to be feeling anything anyway. This is my first pregnancy. Anyway, from about 18-19 weeks they got stronger and more obvious. Now I'm getting mahoosive kicks all times of day (I'm 21 weeks now). I love it! The other day I had the biggest kick ever, I could see it. It really broke my concentration on what I was doing and took my breath away a bit. I reakon one of them was doing a full on back flip!! And if I rest a mug of coffee on them, they tell me soon enough to remove it!! Funny really! I'm loving being pregnant now and we're already talking of trying again soon after - tho the prospect of another set of twins is slightly putting me off!!!!

Not sure yet if I'll go to any antenatal classes. Having been a midwife I feel nothing too much would have changed. My husband would benefit, tho I can't see him sitting through a whole days worth of baby talk!! He tires of it already, haha!

Must start thinking about buying stuff now. Over half way and we've only bought a travel cot!!!! Eek!
