Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Hey all not been on for a while.
Had my scan on Thursday, both babies doing great but still breech.

I'm having a really uncomfy week..they have their heads wedged in my lungs so I'm out of breath all the time and don't sleep well at all!

nearly 32 weeks so not long left, just really hoping theses girls will get turning soon! Doc did not seem concerned said they have plenty of time to turn yet.

Swazzee · 27/09/2010 12:35

BTW, going back to buggies, I'm almost totally decided on the Nipper now. This website is the cheapest I've seen them and it includes a shopping basket. Suppose I'll have to get the newborn insert and cosytoes too for another £100, but that still makes the whole thing £400 which I think is really good.

What have other people decided?

strawberrylace · 27/09/2010 20:03

Hello!

I wondered if you would mind if I joined you please? I just stumbled on this thread - I've been on mumsnet for a while from when my little boy was born (he's 3 in a few days), and we are now expecting twins in November (a bit of a shock at the time of the first scan, but seems more normal now).

I've added my self to the stats below - wasn't quite sure where to fit in as my original due date was 1/12/10, but I now have a c-section booked for 19/11/10, as I had an emergency one the first time around and so my consultant says I have to have another.

Hi strawberrylace my DS is 3 next week and am expecting my twins on 14/12, although like you could well be earlier if c/s.

Jenzopos · 27/09/2010 23:55

swazee Id look into generic footmuffs and supports as you may find them cheaper than the offical ones! footmuffs are from 16 pounds each and newborn insets for 10 pounds..so chaepr than nipper ones

Swazzee · 28/09/2010 10:49

Jenzopos good idea. I was thinking about that - I'll have a look around.

Welcome strawberry. You're due a day before me! I haven't heard anything yet about booking a CS, but when I last saw my consultant at 28 weeks he talked as if he was planning for a natural birth. They're my first, so I guess they always assume natural until something happens which means they book you in for a CS. My next scan and appointment is next week (32 weeks) so I may hear more then.

They're bound to be early though - everyone keeps saying that about twins. I have a friend who is having a singleton and she's currently 11 days overdue! I couldn't cope with that!

MamaMojito · 28/09/2010 13:54

swazzee I know someone who went 10 days OVER with twins recently! Doesn't bear thinking about does it?! Shock

tabbycat76 · 28/09/2010 14:28

Hey guys - all this talk of mode of delivery scares me. I was told by my midwife at booking that it was my decision how I delivered, then I learnt by my Consultant that oh no, you have to have a normal delivery (providing all normal obviously)! My bubbles been burst as I really don't want to have a normal delivery. I'm not too posh to push at all before some of you may think it, I just want it nice and controlled and relaxed, esp for my hubby. If I was having just the one, it'd be a normal delivery all the way but I've seen and heard too many stories of twin deliveries! We'll see.

Welcome strawberries - I see you're a fellow Suffolk lass, where abouts are you?!? We're Ipswich based. Nice to see another 'local' on here! :)

These babies are well and truely making their presence known. I'm 19+ and crikey do they wriggle! I'm loving it, no matter what time of day or night, tho I'm sure as they get bigger I may alter that opinion!!!!! Esp if like you jenzopos I have heads under my ribs! I do feel so unfit tho lately. Is anyone else suffering with that? Normally I'm quite fit and healthy, but I'm so out of breathe lately!!!

Swazzee · 28/09/2010 15:56

OMG Mama 10 days OVER! I'm clinging onto the belief that mine will put in an early appearance.

Tabby I love the wriggly feeling too. I'm 30+5 at the moment and no wedged heads in my lungs yet thankfully. Also feel unfit, but was unfit before pregnancy, so can't really blame it for that!

Lavitabellissima · 28/09/2010 16:58

Welcome Strawberries

I am sleeping so badly, and the babies move sooooooo much right under my ribs and in my back it is really uncomfortable.

Tamba course was good, although I didn't really learn anything new as I'd been reading so much. Nice to meet other parents of twins to be though Smile

I am having a c section as my twins are identical and have been told 36 weeks so only 7 to go ... I am a little scared to say the least Smile

Hope you are all well x

Jenzopos · 28/09/2010 17:31

I really want a natural birth...dont like the idea of being cut open or looking after 2 babies after major surgery!

Lavitabellissima im also sleeping very badly...cant get comfy, babies moving at night needing the loo ect! worn out!

32 weeks so hopefully not that much more to go

smokeybacon · 28/09/2010 17:39

Afternoon all,

Hello strawberrylace. I'm due around the middle of November too, official EDD is 26/11 but I'll be induced at 38 weeks all being well.

Hoping for a natural delivery here too, and as of last scan, presenting twin was head down so all looks ok.

Another one sleeping badly. Loo every 2 hours or so and my hips hurt too, although I've folded up a duvet now and am sleeping on that which does help. I'm also so farking hot all the time and now DH wants the heating on!! I still want to sleep with the window open.

lavita I didn't know that having identical twins had an impact on how you deliver. Are you being given any choice at all??

Aaah, makes sense, jjkm. But what if your waters break naturally?

I know what you all mean about not being able to get comfy at night! I have all sorts of pillows wedged around me, and turning over is a major operation that always involves having to go to the loo as the spudlets manage to move on top of my bladder (or so it seems)
They are breech when I went for my 30 wk scan, having turned around from being head down at 26 wks, not sure how they managed that. But it's not really a problem if I am having a c-section anyway
Tabby - i am also in Ipswich as well! I haven't found any other local people since i've been on MN Smile

Lavitabellissima · 29/09/2010 10:10

Smokey I was told at 10 weeks that I'd definitely be having a c section as they share a placenta and a sac although they have a membrane between them. C section is just must safer apparently after the first twin is delivered vaginally it can disrupt blood flow from the placenta and can be very dangerous for the second twin.

My best friend had a little boy on Monday emergency c section after a 27 hour labour Sad I don't think I could take that!

My ear infection is back, along with a throat infection, coupled with not sleeping, I am an absolute misery guts!.

Jenzopos · 29/09/2010 13:16

i seem to have developed carpal tunnel syndrome...yet another ailment to keep me awake at night!

Problem with the pillows is you need to rearrange them all every time you need the get up to go to the loo!

Swazzee · 29/09/2010 13:51

And don't you all just hate that feeling when you make the effort to turn over in the middle of the night and then realise you need the loo just as you get comfy. Aarrrgh. But my biggest problem at night is the sweating and drooling - have to change the duvet and pillows much more often as they get so damp!! Blush

Had my 31 week check up with the GP this morning. Twin 1 is head down (Twin 2 is breech) and she explained how it doesn't matter too much how the second one is as long as the first one is head down. Both her and my consultant seem to be expecting VB at this stage. I don't think I'm bothered either way, but obviously I'll take whatever advice I'm given when the time comes.

Jenzopos · 29/09/2010 14:22

swazzee I'm totally with you on that one! Its really annoying!

MamaMojito · 29/09/2010 15:04

Mmm, I'm not being given much advice wrt birth either.

I had a section with my DS for failure to progress after induction #4 plus he was in distress, meconium in waters etc so they got him out, not what I wanted, but best for him in the end. Recovery was fine apart from the skin over my scar took a long time to heal properly (about 5 months in the end) which meant a lot of trips to the nurse and a couple of doses of antibiotics.

I had kind of assumed that I would be advised to have a section this time too, but at the moment they all seem to be pushing (no pun intended!) for a VBAC. I have been told the same as Swazzee in that as long as the first one is head down then that's all that matters.

Saying that though my midwife said from the start that she suspected I would have a planned section and my son's paediatrician said that in her experience she would always go section with twins for the sake of Twin 2.

I have been told to think about it as no decision will be made until 36 weeks. At the moment I am still inclined to go for a section as I'm not convinced a VBAC is right for me. If I start naturally then I might attempt a VBAC but I really don't think that I will, my babies don't come out on their own, even when I had my miscarriage I needed an ERPC.

Sorry for long waffle, I know all cases are different and that they do have different criteria for identical than non identicals like mine. I just thought I'd be guided a bit more...

strawberrylace · 29/09/2010 21:18

It's obviously so different - advice re: births - depending on where you live. my consultant has had me booked in for a c-section at 38 weeks since about 24 weeks, because I had an emergency one first time, and mine are non-identical.

Part of me will be disappointed not to try and give birth naturally, but the other part of me is quite happy with a c-section, as I can organise people to look after DS, and I felt that I recovered ok the first time around. It just means that DH will have to drive more for a few weeks!

Jenzopos/Swazzee - i know what you mean about the effort involved in turning over, rearranging pillows and then needing the loo - now i just go before i change position so i have to move less!

Sorry that people are feeling under the weather as well, just what we don't need at the moment....

smokeybacon · 30/09/2010 12:30

I'm hoping for a natural birth too. Twin one is head down and the other one is breach, but i'll go with the advice as things progress.

Glad I'm not the only one with a drooling problem!!

sassy34264 · 30/09/2010 12:42

I'm just back from Jacob and Isobel's 6 week check up. (they will be 7 weeks tomorrow).

I nearly fell off the chair in shock. Jacob was 7lbs 6oz when he was born and he's now 1 ounze off 11 pounds!!!!!! (10lbs 15oz)
Isobel was 6lbs 10oz and she is now 9lbs and 9oz!!!!

Going to have to pack away nearly all their clothes and bring out the next set. Already?! It's going too fast. :o

tabbycat76 · 30/09/2010 16:57

Just back from my antenatal appt with the midwife - glad all's well with the nuggets - (tho not so nugget in size anymore, they may need renaming!). They've been naughty recently with few movements but both seem fine. I've an anterior placenta so that'd be why most likely. But it would seem I'm getting mixed opinion re mode of delivery. My mw said it's my choice, so I say section please for me, but my Consultant said, oh no, we like everyone to aim for a normal delivery! She said hold your own basically and he'll eventually back down!!!! Not quite sure what to think now!! Hmm ponder!

Wow sassy on your babies weights - full fat milk there I think being fed to your little'uns! They're great weights!!! I've been told they grow up way too quick so guess it's true if you're moving into the next batch of clothes!!!!

No problems turning in bed just yet but the middle of the night wee trips are starting to tire me.... think I've been up practically every night since well early on... must be my body trying to get me used to it. Unfortunately it'll take a bit more than that, I LOVE my bed and my sleep!!!!! Heaven help me when the babes arrive!!!!!
