Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Hi Holidays

Have heard great things about bio oil but if you are gonna get stretch marks I don't think anything will stop them. I have already noticed an improvement on a scar that I have and my skin tone is better (have been using for a couple of weeks) I have used Palmers coco butter/Sanctuary mum to be and a boots one but they make me feel sick as they are so sweet smelling, the bio oil isn't too sweet smelling. It is cheaper on this website Discounted Bio oil

You can see the whole of the babies at 12 weeks and as they get bigger you can see less of them in the scan, so 16 weeks should be good to see most of them, our pictures of dd1 at 20 weeks weren't as clear and could just see her head, arms and tummy so not sure what it would be like for twins but I am sure some of the others ladies on here who have had later scans will be along shortly to advise :)

I think they can tell the sex from about 16 weeks if baby is in the right position etc.

Off to get some new maternity clothes today as all my stuff from dd1 is summer stuff and I am freezing!! Anyone know of a good maternity school run coat????

Have a good day everyone :)

Oooo just had a quick look on Amazon - Bio oil is cheaper on there too so have a look before you buy.

holidays2010 · 20/09/2010 10:33

Thanks magic, just found a 200ml bottle for £9.96 on Amazon.
Oh ok, maybe I'll buy the next set of scan pics then.

I've just sent my little one off to school for her first full day...it's so strange without her! I hope she'll be ok!

Amberc · 20/09/2010 10:59

All went well at my scan - hurrah! Time to spend spend spend!!!!!!!!!!!! I have two good sized singletons and nearly passed out on the scanning bed as he put me flat so we had to do the rest on my side. Blimey you can really tell the difference between NHS and private - no plasma screen to watch it on and no mints on reception tee hee. Happy now.

smokeybacon · 20/09/2010 15:07

Hi all,

holidays I was going to recommend amazon for BioOil but you've got there first. I am slathering myself in it at the moment, as I did for my 2 other pgs. No stretch marks but I think it is genetic but hey, I think with a twin pg my skin will need all the help it can get.

amber glad scan went well. Know what you mean about lying flat. It sends my head spinning.

We must be lucky with our hosptial as they do have the plasma/flat screens on the wall in the scan rooms. I am always a bit Hmm about that as suppose something was wrong, what would they do?

No mints on reception though.

lavita are you feeling any better today?

We are starting sleep training with DS2 tonight . For the last, well, 10 months or more, he wakes during the night and we have been lazy and brought him into our bed. Partly so as not to disturb DS1 who he shares his room with and partly as we know he will go straight to sleep in our bed. But with the twins arrival only max 8 weeks away, we have to tackle this. So tonight is the night we are to start. Its going to be kind of controlled crying but with picking up for a cuddle and putting straight back down when he has calmed down. I'm doing it as I can go back to bed during the day for Tues Wed and Thurs, and DH will deal with DS1 in the spare room upstairs. Am dreading it, but we've got to sort it out. Even though I secretly love having him bed for cuddles, I know that with the twins coming, its impractical for DS2 to be in with us too.

Amberc · 20/09/2010 15:29

Smokey, how old is DS2?

smokeybacon · 20/09/2010 17:05

He's 17 months.

Personally I think stretch marks are in the genes and if you are going to get them nowt will stop it. A good moisturiser will certainly help to lessen the effect though and I think Bio Oil is good for afterwards to try to get rid.

Smokey - good luck tonight! Just 17 months - wow I will be looking to you for advice when mine are born on how to cope with a toddler and newborns!

tabbycat76 · 21/09/2010 09:45

Hi everyone!! Haven't been on here for ages now so apologies for not keeping u[ to date - there's so much to catch up on, I'll read all posts later on. We've just had a manic past week or two moving house. I'm glad we decided to move now instead of later on down the line when I'm bigger.... the stress of it all is crazy, I'm sure the little bubba's didn't appreciate all my stress hormones!!! All done now tho and the old house has been fully painted and cleaned so that the tenant could move in yesterday - big sigh of relief! Next big event is the twins arrival!!!!! Scary!

Well I'm 18+1 today, it's going quickly!! I had my first consultant appt last Monday and took my mum with me as she wanted to hear the heart beats. That was the first time I'd heard them too.... isn't it just amazing!!!!! I've also started to really feel them fidget inside. It's not so much kicking as lots of bubbles but it sure does feel good and reassuring!!! My husband has taken to laying his head on my tummy hoping to feel a kick but as yet, nothing!! Bit too early I think.

He's also in the process of making a CD for the twins so I can play it whilst they're inside so they get used to it, in the hope they'll be comforted by it when they're out. My friends wife did it for her, just some relaxing music they both liked and it seems to work, so we're going to give it a go!

As for stretch marks. I started using Bio Oil but developed a rash so I've started using CoCo Butter instead. The smell for me is much more appealing, and it really softens my skin, I can so tell a difference if I've not moisturised in a couple of days. But really, I agree with others, it's all in the genes. If you're going to get them, nothing will stop them. Just gotta keep your fingers crossed!!

Anyway, time to catch up on all your news!! May be some time....!!! :)
Take care all, x

Off for my 28 week scan this afternoon Smile

God it's getting close now and I really don't feel ready! scary, also need to buy some new bra's again as they just don't fit. I've gone from an A/B to a D! Also have leaky boobs, anyone else?

MamaMojito · 21/09/2010 11:06

Ooh Lavita I have mine tomorrow, hope it goes well and you get a good old look at them.
I'm really curious to see what position mine are in as I'm definitely feeling some right old thumps now and can feel what I think are bottoms wiggling about! I think the left one still changes position almost daily. On Sunday my jeans were too tight at the bottom of my bump, yesterday they kept falling down so I had obviously changed shape literally overnight.

Oh and don't worry about not being ready, you're not the only one, have still done absolutely nothing, well actually I bought a pack of vests last week just so I could feel like I had done something! Blush

MamaMojito · 21/09/2010 11:09

Oh and negative on the leaky boob front although driving to work this morning I did think they felt a bit tingly like they do when you're feeding. Mine aren't bigger, just resting on my tum now...grim!

Amberc · 21/09/2010 14:41

Hi all - I joined Tamba mainly to get the buggy review. They are crap! I thought they would be humans writing about their experiences but they are tickbox surveys so not rankings or anything. I am now deciding between two. 360 Nipper and Mountain buggy. It seems everyone with twins ends up with a 360 nipper so am wondering whether to just get it and not be taken in by free footmuffs and chairs that face either way. The mountain buggy has a double pram attachemtn which has almost swayed me! I stopped a woman with twins in the street and she had a nipper and said it was brilliant and all the women at twins club had them. She also had two 3 year olds in it and they looked comfy. hmmmmm. Got a cons app today although seeing as I had a scan yesterday I don;t know what the benefit will be x

Swazzee · 21/09/2010 16:25

Hey all

Oh I wish I was a D cup Lavita. I've gone from F to G Blush but nothing leaking yet thankfully! I'm always worried it's just going to start spurting out on the train or something. Still, it might mean I get a bit more space to myself as people sidle away....

Mama so true about the changing shape. Also I always feel bigger in the evenings than during the day.

Me and hubby went shopping in Sainsburys at the weekend and we made our first baby related purchase. Two cute little blue sleepsuits with hats. Bought two the same (he is adamant they need to be dressed identically although I'm not quite so keen). It felt good though.

Next stop, the buggy. Amber I'm very keen on the Nipper from all the reviews I've read but I reqally want to see one. Has anyone seen any shops (in South London preferably) that keep them in store? I'm getting fed up with only being able to look at pictures online.

Amberc · 21/09/2010 16:39

Go to your local twins club - they will all have one! Mothercare apparently stock them but you'd probably have to ring round to find one.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/09/2010 17:48

swazzee are you near to Croydon? Have a look in Baby Nest reduced nipper

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/09/2010 17:54

One of my mindees had a nipper (single) and I loved using it, it was a pleasure to push around. I would get one if doors and hallways were not issue.

Don't forget to use your voucher in your bounty packs for your £5 off kids clothes in Sainsbury's, look after the pennies and all that!

holidays2010 · 21/09/2010 19:27

Don't worry Swazzee, I'm a GG! No idea what I'll be in the coming weeks though! I already know I need a new bra..

Right I've been doing some looking and need all your opinions on the following products,

Best formula milk for newborns (i'm bfing but always keep formula just in case)

The thermo bags for babies bottles - Which ones work/worth investing in?

And lastly (for now) - Best newborn nappies that dont leak!!?? I cant deal with two leaky pooey nappy babies! :o

All input welcome and appreciated! :o

holidays2010 · 21/09/2010 19:31

Ohhh and one more!

What would you recommend for bottles for newborns?

I'm looking at the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles and Phillips Avent Free airflex feeding bottles at the moment as Boots and Argos have a deal on them.

Amberc · 21/09/2010 21:03

I gave my DS Aptimil and cow & gate as he was not breast fed. I think they are all the same but I have heard not SMA as it's too hard on the digestive system.

Didn't use thermo bags

We used pampers as they were most comfy. We tried higgies too but all nappies will leak poo sometimes as it's just the sheer quantity and the fact they are lying in it!

I used closer to natuer - massive recommendation for those.

Amberc · 21/09/2010 21:04

Oh and another good tip I picked up. I was wondering about moses bskets and if they came in a double size (which they don't). someone suggested a trvel cot instead of two moses baskets as they can sleep together and will get mopre use out of it later on. A great suggestion I think.

holidays2010 · 22/09/2010 07:28

Thanks Amberc.

I always find drinking milk helps with my indigestion.

Has anyone tried the "Little Angels New Arrival" nappies from Asda? They're doing 3 packs for £10 at the mo and are supposedly designed for 'soft poo'.

Seems too soon to buy this stuff but if I dont tick something off the list I'll feel totally not ready! :o

Amberc · 22/09/2010 08:45

All newborn nappies are designed for soft poo holidays i think it's just a matter of what works best for you and fits your baby's little bottom best!
