Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Hi everyone. Hope you are all well.
I must have a sixth sense as my mum came round today with the measuring tape to measure the pram for me! It is 32 inches at the widest point. Most doors are 30. It is very easy to push and actually has a bouncy suspension on it to minimalise any humps and bumps. I wouldn't say it took an hour to put together as such, cos it is all together in the box as one. Only the wheels need adding. But it did take a while to read the instructions and work out how to put the pram down and up, how to put the back of the seats down and up and how to put the leg rest up and down etc. I've never seen it available in any shops but it is available from Amazon and you can speak to the company who deliver via email and ask them if there is a charge for returning it, if it doesn't match your requirements.

tako

They are mk-trading. (this is d different company from when i bought mine)

Had a few hiccups with Isobel and Jacob. Isobel spent a day in neo-natal for low blood sugar levels and Jacob has taken a trip in an ambulance for irregular breathing and spent a night in hospital before being given the all clear and some medication for reflux. But so far, so good.

sassy34264 · 26/08/2010 21:19

Just to add that i haven't been out with it yet. Had my 1st day out today, since babies were born (2 weeks tomorrow!) but went to ikea, so just pushed babies in car seats in trolleys! Will be trying it out definately in next few days, so i can let you know then.

Lavitabellissima · 27/08/2010 07:41

Congrats on getting out and about Sassy and hope little Isobel and Jacob are feeling better.

I have a scan today, fingers crossed all is still going well Smile

Catch up later ladies x

Amberc · 27/08/2010 16:06

God luck for your scan today Lavita!

Sassy - what a worry for you with the babies but hopefully all is well now. Thanks for the info on the Tako - I think they will be getting a lot of business thanks to you!

Thanks guys on your 'pram/pushchair' suggestions. I must admit I'm loving the Taco pram, just love even looking at it, let alone the thought of having two babies in there to push! However, it has inflatable tires which worries me if I get a puncture, secondly, that the front wheels aren't fully rotational making for easy steering, and thirdly, the weight esp if I'm on my own needing to lift it in and out of the car. But nevertheless I haven't seen another one I like as much! It's so difficult to choose!!

Lavita, hope your scan went well today, tell us how it was. Bet it was really clear!!! Counting down till my 20 week one!!!

Anyway, question for you ladies further on than me... stretch marks.... are any of you suffering with them an if so, when did you notice them and are you using anything to help with them??

I'm 14+ weeks and am using CoCo Butter twice daily as I had a reaction to Bio Oil. So far so good and I certainly have a bump so hope it stays this way!!

Amberc · 27/08/2010 19:38

Jjkm my sonograpger told me at 12 weeks I had girls. The 16 week scan it was confirmed. It is possible to tell at 16 weeks definitively so you should have got your answer and they should have got you to walk about to turn the other one really! What do you feel like you have?

Tabby luckily I didn't get any stetch marks last time but used bio oil. My sis got them in the last few weeks when she thought she'd escaped!

tabbycat76 · 27/08/2010 20:04

My mum did the old wives trick of holding the needle with a thread above my belly. It spun round indicating a girl on one side, and then rocked to and fro the other side indicating a boy! Hmm, she swears by this as it worked all three times with her ( she had two boys and then me)! I'm not so sure but it'd be great if it were true! Family done in one blow! I've also been told that the more scans you have the later on in your pregnancy, it becomes very obvious what sex you have! To look then or not to look! We really want a surprise but suspect we'll soon find out at scans when I'll really want to see them grow and move about! :)

Jenzopos · 27/08/2010 21:37

Jjkm ultrasound sexing can be wrong so it might be why the doctor doesn't want to commit. Also depends how the baby is lying.

tabbycat I developed stretch marks at the bottom of my bump but so far just there (touch wood. None of the women in my family have them...but seems twins is more than my skin can cope with! (appeared about 24 weeks. Creams probably wont help stop them but will keep the skin nice and moisturised and in good condition so less likely to itch ect.

Had my 27 weeks scan and both girls growing well but breech. Come on girls get turning!
Having a rescan in four weeks hope they will have turned by then.

Lavitabellissima · 28/08/2010 12:13

My scan was really good yesterday, twins growing really well, no signs of TTS. The consultant said that if you don't see signs before 26 weeks then it is unlikely to happen which is great news.

Definitely girls, she did a close up and then apologised for embarrassing the little ones Grin

I've got no stretch marks as yet, fingers crossed but I've just been moisturising, I haven't bought any expensive oils or anything. It's just down to genes anyway I think. My veins are very pronounced, very visible around the sides of belly though, anyone else got this?

Elenia · 28/08/2010 13:41

Tabbycat, have you see this one cgi.ebay.co.uk/DUET-MAX-Twins-Double-Pram-Pushchair-over-70-colours-/170475725252?pt=UK_Baby_BabyTravel_Pushchairs_GL

I cant find any reviews on it though!!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 28/08/2010 17:12

Bon weekend ladies,

feel ROUGH and bump has proper popped out over the last day or so (Only 10+4)! Just under 2 weeks until my scan so I need to disguise it well and keep under wraps from my mindees parents! Any tips?

Tabby I asked my consultant about Clindamycin and he said he thinks it's better at getting rid of it completely from inside out (if you get my drift). He also said once you've had antibiotics for it in pregnancy you prob wont need to be retested and if by chance it does come back again the bacterias cycle wouldn't be present until later in pregnancy when it doesn't seem to be a concern....I hope that makes sense!

Lovin' the buggy talk btw!

Good news on the girls Jenz, I think doing some stretches on all 4s helps them turn (although not sure on twins but know this is what they say for singletons) Lavita Good news too and I bet that is a relief about the TTTS.

I am already overloading on the bio oil. Love the smell.

Lovely to see you are out and about Sassy and I am glad they are feeling better, must have been a worry for you. How are you feeling??

sassy34264 · 28/08/2010 18:40

Went out for a walk yesterday with the pram.
Your're right about most things tabbycat. It is heavy to lift in and out the house or in and out the car. It also doesn't have rotational wheels so you do have to press down on the back wheels to lift the front and turn. It's not heavy to do this though and it is not heavy or hard to push.

Been to the peadiatric A&E today, on referral from the midwife yesterday. Babies have jaundice which is lingering and they have a policy of referring babies if they still have it after 14 days. (yesterday). The blood results were less than when they tested them one and a half weeks ago, but if it's still present by next friday, we have to go back again for more tests.

magic I'm feeling ok. I've hurt my c section scar a few times by over stretching or bending, and some days i'm more tired than others, but on the whole so far, i have found it easier than when i had DD 10 years ago. Don't know whether that's cos they sleep alot cos they were premature or just cos i'm older and less fretful and stressed!!! :o

Swazzee · 30/08/2010 12:37

Thanks for that link Elenia. That pram/buggy looks just like the Tako but lighter. Had a look at the buyer feedback and although they're not full reviews, the overall feedback seemed good. A new favourite for me I think, plus £60 cheaper!

Lavitabellissima · 30/08/2010 13:15

I forgot to say Tabby about my scan, the doctor tried to show us the babies in 4d.

We were at the fetal medicine centre (Queen Charlotte's) but 1 baby had her back to the scanner and other baby had the cord and hand in her face so we couldn't see clearly which was a shame.

I'm 25 weeks today, babies will be here before I know it Grin

smokeybacon · 31/08/2010 10:16

Morning ladies. Back from hols and need to do a catch up but I see Sassy has had her babies! COngratulations!!!! Have only skimmed the last two weeks so will go back and have a good read of all the news.

Back later..........

smokeybacon · 31/08/2010 10:21

OMG. Have just peeked at your pic sassy of Jacob and Isobel. How beautiful are they??? Have to admit to welling up. Someone called them divine. That is such an appropriate word for them. Hope you are all well and you are enojying your beautiful babies. Well done. xxxxxx

Right back to catching up.....

Amberc · 31/08/2010 10:23

We saw our babies in 4d at 16 weeks and they just looked like weird aliens!

smokeybacon · 31/08/2010 17:02

So, back again.

Hello to the newbies. Jenzopos we must be due about the same time. I am now 27+4. Haven't even contemplated hospital bag yet. Do you think I should????

sassy hope Jacob and Isobel are over their jaundice now and you are ok. Please keep us updated as to how you are getting on! We will have to start a post natal thread at some point when more of us have produced.

Holiday was great. Lovely to spend time with DH and the DSs although it was hard work with the bump. It was a constant battle to get comfy - lying on a bed with lots of pillows was pretty much the only time I could get comfy, and thank god we had air conditioning in the second week!! We are thinking of going back to the same place next year - hard to believe we will have two more little ones by then!

Jenzopos · 31/08/2010 23:19

smokey bacon Id read online to have the bag ready for 28 weeks and have to say feel really organised now its done!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 01/09/2010 11:04

Hi ladies hope you are all doing ok, just 2 questions for you.........

Just a wondering really, when did you start to feel the first flutterings of your double bubbles moving?

Smokey 28 weeks is what is has in one of my books which has a tiny section on multiples. Does anyone have or can any of your recommend a good twins book?

Off for bloods today and scan in a week

Happy Wednesday!

jackinthebump · 01/09/2010 12:07

Magic - I started feeling very faint flutterings a few weeks ago at 14/15 weeks. They are getting stronger now and makes me grin, feels a little like I have snakes in my tummy!

Swazzee · 01/09/2010 14:30

Magic I guess I had flutterings at around 18/19 weeks but it was so faint I remember wondering whether I was in fact just hungry. I was 21 weeks before I could say I felt them for definite. And it does tickle and feel like snakes - Jack you're so right!

Will be 27 weeks tomorrow and last week for the first time I could actually feel them from the outside by putting my hand on my belly. (They manage to stop moving every time DH does this though, so he's convinced I'm imagining it!)

Smokey, Jenzopos Guess I'd better start thinking about my hospital bag then too!

Magic A friend of mine in Australia recommended a book called Twins by Katrina Bowman and Louise Ryan. Haven't actually read it myself, and not sure if it's particularly Australian market specific, but she said it was good.

smokeybacon · 01/09/2010 14:41

magic I've got a book called Baby Secrets and it has a really good section on twins.here It was written by someone who has twins. There is a Gina Ford book on twins aswell, but I am a bit scared by her!

I had slight flutterings at 11 weeks and then they stopped. But came back at 14/15 weeks and they haven't stopped since. Now I can feel them scrapping! I can see my belly move too from the outside.

Amberc · 01/09/2010 16:16

Magic I have red a book called double trouble but it didn't tell me anything I didn't know or couldn't have guessed. The best possible source of information for me has been other twin mums!

I can feel movements now at just coming up to 19 weeks. I have felt them for maybe 2 weeks and it does yes feel like snakes - what a brilliant description! Also when I'm walking around sometimes it feels like I have a brick in my tummy! You can always feel things a bit sooner with second pregnancies though apparently as you know what you are looking for and people get confised with movement and wind!

Just got some maternity clothes through from jojo maman bebe - brilliant and all fit - hurrah! (They do really nice babies things especially polar fleece if anyone is interested and have a 10% off thingy on MN).
