Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Evenin' ladies

Tabby - hope you've got yourself sorted now, do mention it to your midwife/consultant. I have the same problem (confirmed yesterday) but have never experienced it before and am seeing my cons on Thurs for my first appoint. I know he prescribes Clindamycin rather than Metronidazole.

Re the scans I know I have one with the twins team at 16 weeks and then they are fortnightly. jjkm I am glad you got a scan and all is good with the twins.

Big waves to everyone hope you are all well!

Jenzopos · 24/08/2010 21:14

sleeping is becoming hard as I cant get comfy...still another 9-13 weeks to go!
I've tried pillows but still find it hard to get comfy... I gave up one night and slept in the recliner in the lounge!

Anyone else with similar issues?

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 24/08/2010 21:40

Jenz insomnia sucks, feel for you I had this & restless legs with DD1 Confused I'd stick with the recliner! Grin

tabbycat76 · 25/08/2010 08:25

Morning! :)

Yeah I'm having problems sleeping too but don't really have a reason why! I've been woken up for a wee during the early hours for about the past 3-4 weeks or so but struggle to get back off to sleep. Can't really blame it on my bump as it's hardly big. But I'm knackered during the day!! And since I'm back at work now, I know it's going to affect work before long too. Not sure how long I can go with interrupted sleep like this, ha, bit of a 'duh' thing to say when I'll be up with twins during the night soon, but at least I won't have work during the day!

Well I phoned up my hospital yesterday re scans at 16 weeks and they say no they don't do them, just at 12 and 20 weeks. :( :( Guess I'll wait until 20 weeks then, I'm reassured by the fact by bump is growing and people who haven't seen me for a while are surprised by the growth too so I think I'll hang on. Seems such a long way off tho.

Magic8 - I wonder why he prescribes clindamycin and not metronidazole. I'm waiting for my swab results to come through but am hoping it's cleared itself up by now.

Anyway, can you guys remind me which prams you've all been looking at? My mum found a great twin buggy online within minutes but it's bookmarked on our other laptop which is packed for a big house move so I can't access it. I'm just wondering if any of you might have considered the same. My memory has become so shocking lately, it's unbelievable!

Going back to the insomnia through being uncomfortable - I'm going to buy one of those v shaped cushions to help me sleep when the bump gets too big. I've heard they're pretty good.

I bought a dream genii pillow, it is brilliant Smile

I put it off for weeks sleeping with various cushions around me as it seemed too expensive. So glad I bought it Smile I'm much more comfortable but I still have trouble switching off. £45 but worth it imo!

I have my 24 scan on Friday, can't wait!

Jenzopos · 25/08/2010 12:10

Hey all, I'm just starting to get my hospital bag together..though its hard deciding how much baby clothes to pack! If I pack double the recommended Id have a stupid amount of bags. I don't live far from the hospital..wondering how many babygros and vests ect to pack. Very little on-line about packing a bag for multiples! I'm also wondering if I have to go to hospitals earlier than if I was having a singleton? Cannot believe I'm going to be a mum in 9-13 weeks! How its flown by!

Jen

Swazzee · 25/08/2010 15:41

Well, everyone, just think of all those who have singleton pregnancies - they get a scan at 12 and 20 weeks and then nothing after that unless there's a problem (I think?)

Jenzopos you've given me a fright. Shock I assume you're basing 9-13 weeks on 36-40? That means I have 10-14 left!!! Hadn't quite realised how soon it was til I saw that!! Haven't even thought about packing a bag yet or even getting clothes for them. My midwife gave me a list of what to pack at my first appointment - guess I was just going to double that. We'll all have to get used to lugging a stupid amount of bags around won't we!

Tabby I'm considering the Tako pram as bought by Sassy. But I'm worried it might be too big and thinking about the Maclaren Twin Techno or City Mini Jogger instead... What about the rest of you?

jackinthebump · 25/08/2010 16:10

OOOh, never thought I'd look at puchchairs and think I want one of them! But that Tako Duo makes me feel this! Would be really interested to know who has one of these and how you get on with it! Can't find any in a shop to play with! This seems to be the only one that you can have as pram and push chair front and rear facing and comes as package!

Lavitabellissima · 25/08/2010 16:25

I haven't organised anything yet just bought a few baby clothes, nothing sensible though. I have a lot to do!

I have ordered the i candy peach blossom

Have seen the nursery furniture we are getting and am going to order next week. Then I need to start getting everything else, so much to think about!

Amberc · 25/08/2010 16:42

Swazzee, it's great if you live near the hospital so you can get your OH to get more stuff if you need it. You need to think about how long you will be in hospital, I had a c section before and was there 4 days and that was at full term with a singleton. They say you should pack vests and babygros, scratch mitts and little hats (although my DS didn't wear a hat - it's boiling in there! Also nappies for the babies maybe in preemy size and newborn unless you know the sizes of the little ones! I brought a bottle and teat as I knew I might have a problem with breast feeding (which I did). I think it's harder to pack the stuff for you. The best advice I got was to pack one bag for the baby and one for you. Lucozade! And straws! Make sure you bring big pants and pads for afterwards. I suppose you have to consider whether you may end up with a section and pack accordingly. It's hard work! There are loads of lists on MN in the archives but go onto one of the twins threads on multiples and ask them - they'll be able to give you a much better idea (then you can tell us all!!).
PS I got a long sausage shaped bean bag which I sleep with and I found it better than the special pillows

Swazzee · 25/08/2010 17:17

Jack I felt exactly the same when I saw the Tako pram! I've not seen any others which can face both ways and be a pushcahir and pram. AND with the bag, footmuff and raincover. I am worried about the sheer size of it - I measured my front door and according to the measurements on the website, it's 3cms wider. Which made me wonder whether I'd ever get it on a bus or into a shop etc. Sassy ordered one (have a look back earlier in this thread) and said the box barely fitted through her front door! But she seemed impressed once she'd spent an hour (with help!) putting it together.

As for the iCandy one, I think it's just way out of my price range (around £800?) and think I prefer the side by side arrangement, despite the door issue!

Amber yes we're not far from the hospital and am fully expecting to send DH out for supplies!

jackinthebump · 25/08/2010 17:43

I much prefer the side by side set up gives them both the same opportunity when they are a bit older to have a good look around. I certainly understand the concern about fitting through the front door, we have patio doors at the back so might just have to use them for a while! Most shops I go in have double doors so don't think that will be a problem but might be an issue getting it in the boot of the car! Only thing I have noticed with the other twin buggies is they seem so small in comparison to single buggies, do they need less space because there are two of them?!

Jenzopos · 25/08/2010 18:29

I'm considering the nipper 360. very light weight and has good reviews! I'm packing lighter as I live 10 mins from the hospital.

Swazee I only realised my self last week when someone asked me how long left on facebook!

I have loads of clothes already...paid 30 quid for 4 boxes of new condition clothes on ebay! Got lots of bargains on ebay!

Jenzopos · 25/08/2010 18:30

scan tomorrow, cant wait to see them!

LouMacca · 25/08/2010 18:41

Jenzopos - just spotted the word 'Nipper' and had to crash the thread.

My twins are now 7 but I still have very fond memories of my their Nipper. I actually cried when it was time to get rid of it! So highly recommended from me Grin

Enjoy your scan tomorrow!

Jenzopos · 25/08/2010 18:56

Tabby the tako pram looks nice but its very heavy!

Here's the link for the nipper (it weights 10kg as oppose to 30kg)

Lavitabellissima · 25/08/2010 19:03

Doorways a real issue for me as I live in a victorian house with a very tiny entrance. I also am still hoping I can get on the bus with it, I find the side by side ones too bulky.
It is really expensive £935 ouch! but apparently re sale is very good on ebay etc. Should get about £600 for it second hand.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 25/08/2010 21:03

Not sure why he prescribes it (although I suspect it is because I am still in my first trimester ) Will ask him tomorrow.

Far too early for me to even think about new wheels but I have the same trouble as Lavita with the doors and narrow hall way so will need a tandem. I use a side by side double for my mindees (although thankfully my hours have changed so I hardly ever need to use it now) and it is a nightmare not being able to get it in the house.

I can't believe this weather! I bet as soon as the kids go back it will be boiling!

Amberc · 26/08/2010 09:17

I am LOVING the tako pram more and more every time I see it. It looks so comfy. I will just put ours in the garage so don'y care about the door problem but will care about weight and getting around shops. Where is Sassy to tell us how it is!

The nipper one looks good too but I like the idea of having one which can face you if you want. The other one that does this is the City Twin city twin

Lavitabellissima · 26/08/2010 09:46

How much is it Amber? I like the colour, unfortunately live in a terrace too so the only way to have a double pram would be to keep it outside which is not safe or hygienic in London Sad

Swazzee · 26/08/2010 09:48

OMG, I just read this on the Mothercare website:

"By the time you?re 28 weeks, you?ll look and feel as big as a mum-to-be with a single baby at 40 weeks". Shock Shock

Jack great point about patio doors - hadn't even considered that! I'll be staying with my mum for a bit and she has patio doors! :) Unfortunately, the whole house is at the bottom of a huge flight of steps... But I so want the Tako! Confused

Amberc · 26/08/2010 10:29

It's £399 Lavita plus accessories (from Mothercare)

Jenzopos · 26/08/2010 12:13

For me its all about long term pros and cons...The nipper doesn't have parent facing options but is slim and lightweight so more likely to be used much longer. I really loved the lux twin pram but its bulk and weight make it an issue! I live in a Victorian terrace space is an issue.

Sawzzee I alreay feel huge at 28 weeks...cant believe how much more growth my belly has to do!

jackinthebump · 26/08/2010 16:42

Anyone know of any shops that sell the TAKO so I can go have a play? I'd like to know quite how heavy it is, the numbers mean very little to me really! Only interested how easy it is to go up and down steps with, what it is like to push about and how easy it will be to get in the car!

Swazzee · 26/08/2010 17:09

Jack I'd like the same, so if anyone does find it in a shop let us know! Failing that we should all pop round and see Sassy to have a play with hers!!!
