Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Excellent news Sassy many congratulations on the birth of your babies! Lovely names and great weights...well done you! xxx

sassy34264 · 17/08/2010 22:26

Thanks everyone.

Woke up 6.30am thinking i'd let out a bit of wee. But when I stood up it was rather obvious my waters had gone! Had to put bath towels between my legs (midwife tried to give me a maternity pad when i got to the hospital!)
They wanted to send me home after some obs they said, to try and wait longer because i 35+5. Fortunately the babies had other ideas and within 3 hours i was in full labour. Contractions were not very painful and 10 mins apart for a while and then just jumped to very very painful and almost no break within 20 mins.
DP kept having a little peep over the screen. I'm like 'don't look, i don't want you fainting etc' Next minute, he's stood up and watching it all as 1st baby was being pulled out. They didn't say what it was, and let DP see it was a boy to tell me. They did the same with Isobel. I was just crying and watching DP's face- it was so lovely. Told DD over the phone in recovery and she was screaming down the phone and i could hear my mum sobbing in the background.
Jacob looks like Chloe did when she was born. Isobel is very little, with dainty features. I'm so happy, couldn't of wished for two more beautiful babies

Oh sassy your babies are utterly gorgeous and don't look premature at all! Many many congratulations!

tabbycat76 · 18/08/2010 13:37

Hello everyone - I just HAVE to tell you all I'm so soooooo happy! 2 lots of good news today and it's not even past lunchtime!

Firstly, I got my nucal results today. Twin 1 is 1:2200!!! And twin 2 is 1:990. For my age they should be 1:550 ish so I'm really pleased that the risk is low tho the difference between them is so large! I'm getting a second opinion from a friend who works in DAU so is able to access Registrars and Consultants very easily to probe them on what they think of my results so hopefully they'll agree with me and say reduced risk.

And secondly, I've just had a meeting with my ward matron at work and I'm now officially off sick and am due back in on Monday next week! Yay! No more daytime telly or David Dickinson!!! They've got me going back on a phased return so 4x6hr shifts based in the office doing audits and stuff for one week and then hopefully back in my normal nursey role on the ward doing my 30 hours. I'm soooo excited! 7.5 weeks off with morning sickness is a long time to be off so you can imagine my relief to be back to normal. And now I can enjoy my pregnancy and be back in the normal way of life again! Ahhh, the light at the end of the tunnel has finally arrived and I'm so happy I'm going to go out and celebrate by RETAIL THERAPY!!! Well, tomorrow anyway!!! :)

Hope everyone else is ok, and those of you that are feeling rubbish with m.s, it WILL pass and you WILL feel back to normal soon!

Whoooohoooooo! :)

  • pram shopping jacksmummy - exciting! Let us know which you're considering! :)

Sassy they are so cute! I can feel mine fighting all the time (confirmed at the last scan when I saw one take a swipe at the other), so I hope I can get a cute pic like that after they're born!!

Congrats Tabby on your double good news!

I went to the GP this morning for my routine 25 week check up and picked up my maternity grant form - yay to £190 in my bank account soon!

Amberc · 19/08/2010 10:46

Ooh Swazzee I thought they'd axed that money - I wonder whe it'll go then?

Tabby - well done on the good news - you are low risk hun - no worries!

I am getting yself a maternity support belt as my backache is already so bad. I also got bad SPD with my last pregnancy and can feel it coming on already worse luck. I could hardly walk towards the end of my last pregnancy and I only got it about 6 weeks before I gave birth. I'm only just coming up for 17 weeks now so I am praying daily that it doesn't appear too soon with a 2 year old to look after Sad

Swazzee · 19/08/2010 11:07

Amber they have axed it - as from 1 Jan 2011, so anyone who reaches 25 weeks before then will get it, so we'll all be fine for now, but obviously not any future pregnancies. Wish they gave us double for having twins...

I've had SPD since week 20, but it's coming and going and I'm hoping it won't get worse. At the moment, I'm just taking paracetamol but my doctor said to come back if it gets worse and we can try other things.

jackinthebump · 19/08/2010 13:42

Help!

I am a twin and to be totally honest have not enjoyed growing up as a twin at all! My sister and I have fought like cat and dog for as long as I can remember and only really get on better now that we live a 100 miles apart and don't see each other that much. Don't get me wrong, we don't hate each other or anything just really really struggle to get along. (I guess we are more similar than either would care to admit!)

My dilema now lies in that at my first scan at 13 weeks I was told I am having identical twins!!!

I know I have the advantage that things that upset us about being twins we know to avoid but the hardest thing for me at the moment is the one person I really want to talk this through with (my mum) died 6 years ago!

Everyone else is so excited and thinks its great and I feel so bad for not being as excited!

Amberc · 19/08/2010 16:35

Oh Jack! One thing I have always thought is that you can't choose your family and whatever happened to you needn't reccur in your own children's life (my own parents parenting skills were far from perfect). Many people don't get along with their siblings whether they are twins or not. My sister and I always fought! With twins I think the expectation to be two peas in a pod is so high that sometimes they rebel. Sometimes people just don't get along as no matter what genes we share we are still individuals. I would also worry if I was in your situation as you can't forget your own childhood and the worry is you will be so against history repeating itself that your parenting might affect the kids in some way. I'm so sorry about your mum - I feel the same as my mum died 3 years ago and my dad also died 7 years ago so nobody to ask about anything! Perhaps it would be an idea to seek professional counselling. I did and it helped me loads with any issues I had. There are threads on mumsnet for people who have already had twins (who are older). They may be able to help you with some of the issues surroundng your sibling and good twin parenting and we will be happy to have you on the ante natal side!

Lavitabellissima · 19/08/2010 17:05

Welcome to the thread Jack Smile

I had dinner with 2 friends from school last night who are fraternal twins, who are the exact opposite, they are so close and even live in a shared house. They have always been the best of friends even though they are really different people.

You need to let us know the things to avoid that upset you as a child, and be confident that your children will be happy little individuals. I fought constantly with my brother and sister for about 10 years, but now we're all older we get on great. Maybe now is the time to mend bridges with your sister, maybe this news could bring you closer? always worth a try?

Congrats Tabby on your news, I love a bit of daytime tv but it does get boring after a while, take it easy though, I'm sure your keen to get back to work but it's exhausting! Smile

DP and I ordered our pram yesterday, we got an i candy peach blossom should come in 6-8 weeks and we only need to pay when it arrives. I love it Grin

Lavitabellissima · 20/08/2010 11:24

Bumping for Jenopos sorry I think I spelt that wrong Confused

MamaMojito · 20/08/2010 11:49

Ooh Lavita, that's what I like but not sure about the £££.

Welcome Jack I am not massively close to either of my siblings and never really have been to be honest, wish it was different, but don't think it will be. You are in an ideal position to avoid all the things that you didn't like about being a twin (and to let us know so we can too!)

BTW, I was JacksMummy, but changed my name! :)

MamaMojito · 20/08/2010 11:50

BTW...will try and pop back over the weekend with a pram report!

Lavitabellissima · 20/08/2010 11:53

I've been told that they resell really well on ebay so am going to keep all packaging/wrapping etc then sell again as a whole pram package like I bought once we've outgrown it.

Like your new name MamaMojito, I could kill for a Margerita, can't wait until Xmas when I can partake again Grin

thingamajig · 20/08/2010 12:56

Hello everyone, I found out that I am expecting identical twins on Wednesday - I'm glad I was flat on my back when they told me! I had an early scan due to a little bleed, so was half expecting them to say there was nothing there at all.
I have been so horribly sick and nauseous, its nice to know that there is a good reason for that - I wasn't half so sick when I was pg with dd. I have found that the acupressure wrist bands are amazingly good - I didn't get any for ages as I am very skeptical about alternative anything, but I have only been sick once since putting them on, and am a lot less nauseous.

I will try to add myself to the stats:

Oooh, welcome thingamajig. Where in Cornwall are you? I'm Cornish!! Grin

Sorry you've been so sick - I was lucky on that score. How many weeks are you then? Hopefully it'll go by the time you reach 12 weeks - what little sickness I had did go by then.
