Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Been for my 36 week scan today and babies are estimated at 6.5lbs and 7lbs. Spoke to the consultant and he has booked my c-section for 2 weeks today; 26th August. So excited. :)

Amberc · 12/08/2010 13:06

Ooooooh sassy!!! Great weights

Lavitabellissima · 12/08/2010 13:21

Well done Sassy they are great weights for twins. I was thinking this morning that you would be soon!

2 weeks are you ready? I have so much to do!

JacksMummy73 · 12/08/2010 15:29

Hi everyone and welcome to the newbies!

Congratulations Lavitabella on your scan results and what would be my dream result - 2 girls! Fab news! You must be thrilled!

Sassy so exciting re your section date - not long to go eh?! I bet you have plenty still to do and get ready for. Wishing you all the best with it! :)

We had our 12 week nucal scan Wednesday and are now waiting patiently for the results, tho I'm praying my phone doesn't go as that'd mean a high risk. The nucal folds were 1.9mm and 1.6mm so within limits which is good but my age which results in old eggs won't help! Anxious times. Next scan being the 20 week one which is booked for early October. I wonder how big I'll be then!?

It's weird some days I feel pregnant with a bump and others, it hides away! I can still wear my non pregnant jeans I've discovered, but only if I have a hair band around the button to make them bigger round the waist. I must be at that 'is she just a bit podgy or is she pregnant' state!

Re clothes... we have a wedding to go to at the end of this month and I can't seem to find anywhere in town that sells nice formal maternity clothes. I'm shocked at the lack of variety. Can anyone recommend anywhere? We're in a town so our shops may no have the same selection and choice as bigger stores. Not keen on online shopping either. Maybe I'll just opt for a maxi dress.

Well I'm still off work! :( Had a meeting with my ward matron Wednesday and we're trying to get me back to work maybe on a 'phased return' scheme (as I'm classified as long term sick now), but since then my nausea has made a return, making its appearance in the afternoons and evenings (and they call it morning sickness?!?). I'm off now until next Wednesday when I have to have another meeting to discuss going back, but occupational health can't see me until 23rd August!!!!!!!!!!! and I have to see them before I can go back! Ridiculous since I'm keen to get back even if only for a few hours a day. Hopefully my ward manager can pull some strings. NHS really is useless sometimes! Has anybody else had 7 weeks+ off work????? Feel like a wimp!

Oh, and it was section all the way for me in thought, and now I'm toying with vaginal just to experience the labour - mad I know. But i change my decisions as often as the weather so who knows what I'll do!

By the way, researched into reusable nappies at our local 'real nappy' store yesterday. How fab are they?! I was sold before I went in because of the cost and environmental factors but heck, they are soooooo cute and snuggly! If I was a baby I'd love to wear them and they work out so much cheaper than disposables. Is anyone else thinking of using them?

OP posts:
Amberc · 13/08/2010 08:52

There is no way on earth I would use reusables much as I agree with the idea. I will probably go to hell but the thought of a load of shitty nappies in a bucket of water - bleugh. I know a lot of people who have used them and think they are the best thing ever though.

Tabby I had a lot of weeks off work but onbly at the end of my pregnancy. I felt so grim I couldn't work any more so was 'written off' 9 weeks before my due date (I planned to leave 3 weeks before so 6 weeks sick leave). I thought you got the scan results there and then at the nuchal? Thjose measurements are both good so should be no problems. How old are you? I thought you were younger than me! I think my results were about the same and combined with the blood test they were even lower but just the measurements alone meant it was something like 1:750.

Talking of bump sizes, I have taken a pic of my giant 16 week bump and will post it once I work out how to do it! I know you said you are loathe to shop online, but Isabella Oliver is the creme of the maternity lot. You will find something nice on there as a backup if you wat - a bit £££ though.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 13/08/2010 08:54

Hi ladies feel really Envy (sick btw) so will pop in later to catch up proper like! Got 12 wk scan on 8th Sept feels like ages away!

Amberc · 13/08/2010 08:58

Right i've uploaded my giant bump for your amusement!

Lavitabellissima · 13/08/2010 09:40

Love your bump pic Amber and your little boy is just gorgeous. I love the pic of him in his moses basket, so scrummySmile

I agree about shitty nappies, and think I'll have enough to deal with. Although I think you can get a specialist washing service.

I was sick 3 times yesterday and am nearly 23 weeks. I have good and bad days. I took off 2 weeks as my back was killing weeks 8-10 and I had really bad morning sickness. After that I've just got on with it it but mine has been manageable. Can't say pregnancy has been the joy I'd imagined. I'm incredibly happy and excited but no one told me about all the other side effects like total exhaustion and constipation!

Agree about Isabella Oliver, you can always return things. Otherwise if you're not too big just find a nice loose fit dress a couple of sizes bigger than you usually are, it doesn't have to be maternity.

DP's birthday today on Friday 13th!, we are off baby shopping, looking at nurseries and pram's. Should be a good day, and a BBQ tonight if the weather's ok.

Hope you are all well!

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 13/08/2010 17:06

Still feel rank but am back! Not going to moan too much as unlike poor Lavita I haven't been sick, although I wonder if I would feel better if I was?? Hope you had a productive day shopping and enjoy your BBQ - It's my sisters bday today too and she is also having a BBQ.....and it's raining!!

Amberc your pic is fab! Lovely bump! Going on past PGs I reckon I am looking 12 weeks already........

Sassy very exciting about your c-section date!!

Tabby we used bambino mios with DD1 until she was about 13 months but only during the day. They are great much cheaper and the washing was really not a problem but dd1 was is a skinny lanky thing and they never really fitted properly and it was in disposables all the time by the time she was walking. At night time we had lots of wee leaks which resulted in having to change sleeps suits and bedding so changed to disposables at night, which helped her sleep through better too. However this was almost 4 years ago and I know that they have come on a long way since then and there are many more brands now.......................however as soon as we came out of the scan room having discovered the doubleness we both said in unison "I am not using the mios!"

tabbycat76 · 13/08/2010 18:36

Hey guys I'm not feeling the love for these reusable nappies! They're great! My MIL thinks I'm making much more work for myself but you just have to weigh up the pros and cons!

No buckets of soaking nappies - they don't need it. They have an inner lining which you can flush and which holds the poop in place, and you store the nappy itself in a bucket with tea tree oil drops in which you'd wash every other day. The same nappy can be used from birth to potty and the amount you save is immense! The lady in the shop said that re disposables, if you went with the cheapest brand and the offers that were on at the time, you'd be paying approx £700 per baby from birth to potty, but with reusables, they cost about £550 for two babies! And also, our bin men come every other week to clear the bins, the thought of having bins flowing over with dirty nappies for twins?!?!? Yuk! Oh, and they're all in one too so no pfaffing!

But take a look at them, they are the cutest things and are so soft. They're shaped and applied just like disposables.

shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.427532/sc.7/category.2201/.f

Have I sold the idea to anyone at all!?!??! Come on, feel the love for them, I think they're great!

Btw, loving the photos amber - 16 weeks and yeah you've got a lovely if not bigger than I thought bump for that gestation. No doubt that'll be me in 3-4 weeks time. Eek!

Thanks for the bump comments everyone - it is fooking huge though and lavita my little boy is lovely but my God is he a handful! It's all I can do to stop him from kicking me in the tummy and jumping on it he's so energetic.

Tabby - you haven't convinced me, they are great but not for me. £150 saving in 2.5/3 years is not enough for me to switch!

Elenia · 14/08/2010 13:29

Amberc loving the bump pic!!

Ladies, I used reusables with Oliver when he was first born. Absolute nightmare!! All the washing and drying. Especially in winter. Dont suppose it would be so bad if you had a tumble dryer but I didnt. Plus maybe the fact that we were moving house.... mmmm not sure!!

Well, I'm officially 14 weeks today. Cant wait for my next scan on the 27th of Sept!! thats ages away though :(

I look huge as well. Already in size 14-16 normal clothes. usually a 12. Ill be in proper maternity clothes soon.

BTW, has anyone tried one of these www.amazon.co.uk/the-gro-company-USFABB-Belly/dp/B0010X4F02 ???

Amberc · 14/08/2010 13:37

Hi Elenia, I have seen those things but if you want my honest opinion, they look a bit weird as you'd see the open zip part and what looks like a pair of baggy knickers in the middle!!

I just had a scan today (privately) at 16 weeks 1 day and it was wonderful. I have confirmed two little girls both measuring exactly right but with long legs! Very active ittle creatures waving and kicking around! Fab Grin

Lavitabellissima · 14/08/2010 21:41

Congrats Amber on your little girls just like me Grin

Have a look at www.joules.com for some really cute babygrows in the sale! first thing I did when I found out.

smokeybacon · 15/08/2010 10:21

Hi ladies,

Just popping in to say won't be around for the next 2 weeks as we're off on holiday to France. Am hoping that DH will be mindful that I can't do much so I can just swim and lounge about. We went to town yesterday to get last minute hol stuff and I had to have a lie down when we got back!

Had a growth scan lasat Thursday and both are looking good. The right one has turned and is breach now but the presenting one is still head down so thats good.

Taxi will be here shortly so better sign on.

Hope everyone has a good two weeks and "see" you all soon!!

Have a great holiday Smokey and enjoy relaxing. Good news on the growth scan. See you in 2!

jjkm I am very Envy of you with your sickness letting up.

Amberc lovely news on your girls!

Elaina I used a belly belt with dd1 and it was ok for a while but my jeans were just so uncomfortable in the end as they didn't fit in the right places. I also found a hairband worked better. You could try a bump band? My friend swore by them as she could wear her normal clothes and the band was big enough to cover her undone trousers and stop them falling down. She has lent them to me but I am so bloated and uncomfortable I am living in leggings (and my maternity jeans which have stretchy pockets - a little big but much more comfy than my normal jeans).

Have booking in on Friday :) Think I am going to have split care between the twins consultant and the second trimester loss consultant because of my history, this is a relief as the midwife doing my booking in knows my history (she is a bereavement midwife) so I don't have to go over everything too much, plus she will do all my appointments all the way through which will be nice. I saw about 40 different midwives when I was having dd1 Hmm

Have a good day ladies!

Hi everyone.

Spent the weekend away for our 1st Wedding Anniversary hence why no message from me for a while. And have a meeting tomorrow at work to discuss going back possibly on a phased return scheme. My morning sickness has practically gone, bar the occasional wave of nausea so I'm much relieved by that. However the thought of doing a full 7.5 hr shift on the wards is now freaking me out for different reasons. I am now suffering with feeling a little out of breath, and sighing a lot, combined with a need to sit down a lot! Is it fatigue I don't know but too long on my feet and I suffer. I'm also quite dehydrated in the mornings so I'll have to make sure I drink plenty. If it's not one thing it's another. Is anyone else suffering with these symptoms? Unfortunately they're not enough to take more time off tho - damn! ;) Oh, is anyone else suffering from really bad wind - burping wind I mean - I've found I'm belching so much it's horrible. Wondering if this is a normal pregnancy symptom too?!

Went shopping yesterday and bought some new bras - finally! At 13 weeks!!! Quite disappointed in the look of some of these 'no wired' bras - so unattractive but hey ho, won't be for long. At least I'm much more comfortable now.

I've also had to stop using the BioOil as I'm sure my skin was reacting to it. Instead I've staretd using Palmers CoCo Butter so I hope that does as good a job. Someone mentioned to me a while ago using Olive Oil instead but I'm not sure about that idea. I'm paranoid I'll get stretch marks, and my abdomen is so dry it itches so that can't be helping matters. Oh the joys of pregnancy! ;)

Congrats amber on your twin girls - we still don't want to find out but I'm sure when it comes to our 20 week scan I'll be trying to hold my tongue not to find out!

I've definitely got a little pod now and am showing. I love it! Absolutely love it and feel so proud to be in this position of just being pregnant, let alone having twins. I'm determined now to enjoy it, since the morning sickness has cleared and my mood has improved. I just feel it's such a privalidged position to be in and can't wait to be a mummy! Bring on the sleepless nights and constant feeding! Haha

Have a good day guys. x

Hi all,

Been a week or so since I last posted and feel I should just check in! Had a rescan this morning - at 22 weeks both twins were facing the wrong way and they couldn't check the hearts. Happy to say that everything was fine today - fully measured and fully normal Smile. And only 3 weeks now til my 28 week scan! I'm starting to amass quite a collection of photos of the little tykes!

Amber thanks for the playdate offer, but I doubt we're going to stay in London long after they're born. We've been wanting to move down to the South West (where I'm from originally) for some time, and this feels like a good time to make the major change. Hopefully within a few months of the births, we'll be living by the sea!
