Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

jjkm lesions in your throat? Ouch and double ouch. SOunds utterly miserable. Hope you continue to feel better. Are you going to find out what you are having or leave it as a surprise?

Swazzee · 10/08/2010 10:20

Lavita congrats on the two girls! Had my 22 weeks scan 2 weeks ago (mine are definitely boys!). I have to go for a rescan next week as they couldn't measure the heart and thorax (facing the wrong way apparently). Did they manage to do all your measurements? Was a bit worried at first, but it seems quite normal.

Noticed a few on this thread are also in London. Anyone else having theirs at Mayday in Croydon?

smokeybacon · 10/08/2010 12:55

Just ordered a belly bra. Not the most attractive garment in the world. Hope it helps.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 10/08/2010 13:22

Lovely news on the girls Lavita!

Smokey on your belly bra - I really hope it helps. I saw a lady girl yesterday walking along the road wearing one with a really short vest on exposing her bump with said belly bar/strapping??? all on show for the world..... Very strange.

Swazze I am under St Georges. Who are you seeing at Mayday, I know it well from my previous pregs (had all my antenatal care there but delivered at St Gs)?

jjkm your poor throat, that sounds nasty. Exciting about the kicking!

Swazzee · 10/08/2010 14:14

Magic8ball I haven't really seen anyone in particular there yet. After my scan I was booked in to see 'Mr Sultan or a member of his team'. Waited ages and ages then a guy came in, introduced himself quickly (didn't catch the name but it wasn't Sultan) and said everything looked fine. Complete waste of time! The sonographer woman was very nice though - her name was Julie.

What the hell is a belly bra? I'm going to google it now...

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 10/08/2010 17:08

Have never seen him but 2 friends had him and said he was very good (if you ever get to see him!), I was always under Dr Ward and I did eventually see him but I have quite a complicated medical history. I remember Julie to sonographer too she is lovely. Always take a book or about 5 magazines, the wait in there antenatal clinic is a joke! There are loads of places to park for free around Mayday by the way.

Swazzee · 10/08/2010 17:27

Thanks for the tips Magic8. Yes, the last wait was a nightmare - definitely will take a book next time, though I had DH with me so we were at least bored together.

Don't have a car unfortunately, so parking is not something I'm usually interested in, but my mum may come up with her car for the birth, so may well store that bit of info for later!

In answer to someone's question earlier, I'm planning to leave work at 34 weeks, and at the moment (nearly 24 weeks) I feel great. (Sorry to those who don't Blush) Mind you, I have a fairly laid back office job which isn't particularly taxing or stressful, so as long as I can still manage the commute, the idea of working heavily pregnant doesnt worry me too much.

Thanks for the nice messages ladies, it all feels more real now. I did a bit of online sales shopping at Joules last night and bought some really cute bay clothes Smile

Off to the Physio now!

I'm at West Middlesex & Queen Charlotte's Hospitals I have combined care, an alternate hospital scan every 2 weeks.

Lavitabellissima · 11/08/2010 10:43

Definite pregnancy brain - my physio appointment is tomorrow Blush when I arrived my lovely Physio was doing her gardening, Oops!

sassy34264 · 11/08/2010 13:08

Awh lavita We've all been there! Had to laugh though. :o
I did it a few months ago, but my baby brain is worse than yours in that i can't even remember what i did it over!!!!!! I'd try to remember normally cos it would worry me, but i don't really care at the moment......ha

Amberc · 11/08/2010 13:39

Ah I've found you - the thread dropped off my threads and I couldn't remember where it was (baby brain).

Will post properly later but all this talk of Mayday - is that the one in Croydon?

Magic - I can recommend my new purchase a renault scenic - brilliant!

Swazzee · 11/08/2010 14:06

Amberc yes, Mayday is in Croydon, where I'm lucky enough to live Hmm

Lavita that made me laugh. I'm sure pregnancy brain is a very real phenomenon. I was in a work meeting the other day presenting to about 30 people, some of them quite senior, and I just completely lost track of what I was saying. Had to stop dead, apologise for losing my train of thought, and go back to an earlier point I'd made. Have still never remembered what point I was going to make. So embarrassing.

Amberc · 11/08/2010 16:57

Ooh swazee I am in Beckenham so not far at all if we wanted the twins to ever have a play date!!

Elenia · 11/08/2010 20:33

Hey girls, finally made it here after being directed by sassy34264!!

Im 13+4 days with twins, not sure if BB GG or BG yet!! should find out in a couple of weeks time at the next scan.

Ive already got a bump, and look about 5 months gone!! anyone else like this??

I already have a 1 year old son, and had him via emergency c section. what do you think the likely chances are of the dr agreeing to a planned section this time round?

sassy34264 · 11/08/2010 20:53

Hey Elenia glad you could make it. I kept a watch on your original thread to see if you would join. :)
I had an emer c section with DD and they have agreed to a planned section. Infact i've had no opposition at all.

Lavitabellissima · 12/08/2010 08:22

Welcome Elenia Smile congratulations!
You will definitely get a C - section I think the stats are 60% of twins births are c-section anyway. I have been told I'll have one as my twins are identical, which I'm quite happy with.

I am exhausted today! Tomorrow is DP's birthday and we have people coming over for a BBQ, I'm going to need a big siesta today I think.

JacksMummy73 · 12/08/2010 10:26

Hello ladies...hope you are all well.

Welcome to Elenia and Surprise

Congratulations on your 2 girls Lavita

All this talk of hospitals has made me wonder if any of you are involved in the research being done by the FMC into the prevention of premature labour in twins? I am going to do it, I figure anything that could help them stay in there longer is a good thing...

I am planning on finishing work at 35+3 weeks as that is the day I will be made redundant.

Asked about a section at my "consultant" appt yesterday (for what it was worth!) and didn't get a yes or a no, DS was an emergency section 3 years ago for failure to progress/fetal distress after 4 failed inductions over the course of a week...at least she did tell me that I wouldn't be induced with gel this time, but am pushing not to be induced at all!

Feeling very bleurgh today, up most of the night with shocking heartburn and then chucked my guts up this morning, pulling a load of muscles in my back and sides. Humph

Elenia, I look 7 months pregnant and am just 4 months. It's embarrassing when people go on about it. It's really unfomfortable already and I worry how big i'll end up and how I will look after my DS (aged 2.2) in a few months.

I have my first consultant appointment next week so I will ask about the c section then. I will demand one as I had one last time after 3 days in labour plus I need to be able to plan the birth as we have no family to help out with my DS's childcare.

I empathise with not sleeping. I got no sleep last night due to a combination of needing to pee, needing to eat, general uncomfiness and my DS waking 3 times with bad dreams. The night before I woke 7 times!. Needless to say this morning i pranged the car. I think it's worse than being drunk.

Did anyone put a link up for those belly bras?

Lavita here is the link (not sure how you do the swanky thing so it doesn't look like a link...)

www.fetalmedicine.com/fmf/research/02-prevention-of-prematurity-in-twins/

Think it's all through hospitals though so if you haven't been asked at your hospital then I guess they're not doing it. They just said it was a world wide study and that lots of hospitals were taking part.

Not sure yet which group I'll be in, next appt is Friday 20th.
