Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

jjkm - I shall know where to come if I need any mathmatical advice! A great skill to have. My DP is a maths genius as he works in accounting but it comes in very very handy!

Sassy - that's a bit mental isn't it? I would be going spare by now as the control freak that I am and demanding a date! I also want an elective section abd I am determined to get on at 38 weeks and will use every trick in the book, best one is anxiety/depression which will usually get them pulling their fingers out, much more than physical need.

JacksMummy73 · 05/08/2010 11:58

Hello all!

Sorry I have not yet had time to catch up on all of this thread as am at work but just wanted to join you on our twin journeys?

I'm Kit, soon to be 37 (gulp) and am 21 weeks pregnant with non id twins due December 14th. I also have one DS who will be 3 in October, he is my little superstar. We had our anomaly scan on Tuesday and everything seemed good.

Congratulations to everyone...bit bonkers growing 2 babies innit!

Kit x

Lavitabellissima · 05/08/2010 12:20

Welcome Kit I am due on the 13th Dec with identicals!

I am feeling rather scared and feel I need to get a bit more organised with it all

JacksMummy73 · 05/08/2010 13:17

Hi Lavita congratulations on your babies, great that we're so close in date.

Mmm, definitely, we've done NOTHING so far and I mean nothing...hopefully we'll start to get a bit more organised in the next few weeks, but won't be holding my breath, being organised is not one of my strong points!

Amberc · 05/08/2010 16:21

When has everyone decided to get all the stuff they need (and for those a bit further on when did you start?). I thought about 20 weeks in case they come early and I know some places take ages to deliver things - maybe that's just cos I'm bored!

Hi Jacksmummy! I'll be 38 in December so you are not the oldest!!

Swazzee · 05/08/2010 16:50

I'm 23 weeks today, and don't feel at all ready to be buying stuff yet! Reckon 30 weeks at least before I buy anything...

Mind you, part of my worry is that we live in a small one-bed flat and there's no room for anything extra, so we'll be going fairly minimal anyway! Also, probably moving in with my mum for a few weeks/months soon after they're born, and again, don't want to have too much to have to move the 200 or so miles!

smokeybacon · 05/08/2010 17:07

Yep agree with swazzee, Am going to leave it till at least 30 weeks. We "only" need:
a buggy
a new car (!!!!!)
another cot
newborn grobags for the winter

I need a new twin size changing bag and am hoping that the bouncy chairs, car seats, bath supports and other bits and bobs will be passed on to me by friends.

Hello to jacksmummy . Congratulations on your pg.

I shall be 40 in October. Am I the oldest????

sassy34264 · 05/08/2010 17:33

I refused to buy anything until i was 28 weeks. I made the decision based on the fact that i read that babies survival jumps to 90% at 28 weeks. I had a lot of anxiety (until recently) that things were going to go wrong and although not normally superstitious, i thought it would jinx me!
My bag is packed now as well (34th week), but it has been half packed for weeks!!!!!
I have also bought EVERYTHING now...cots, pram, play gyms, high chairs, bouncy chairs, bath, changing mat, intercoms etc. Spent hours scouring the internet and shops before 28 weeks for the best deals/bargains and then pounced when i got to 28 days! So if you want to know some bargains- i may know the answer.

sassy34264 · 05/08/2010 17:34

Should say weeks not days.

tabbycat76 · 06/08/2010 10:39

Hello peeps! All this talk of buying baby stuff - what an expensive business twins are and my husband (who seems to be the worlds worst at budgeting/saving etc) is absolutely non deterred or slightly bit worried!!! We've not bought anything yet, way too early at 11+ weeks tho m y bump is growing very nicely and I'm feeling somewhat proud to show it off that I may be tempted before long to hike the high street for bits. We're also hoping that a lot of stuff will be given to us by friends and family. We've located one cot so just need the other tho they could both sleep in it for a bit, and possibly a double buggy. I should imagine we'll be going minimal. Theres so much out there for babies that you could easily get carried away and they grow so fast, that is it really worth spending all that cash? One idea my MIL had actually which I thought was quite sensible (amazing since she normally has warped ideas) - is that instead of spending so much on baby furniture (wardrobes chest of drawers etc) buy normal sized furniture that you'd possibly have in their room when they're alot older. Saves you having to change the furniture in a few years time. I think that's what we'll do. A nursery isnt a status symbol after all!

Do you know I'm getting more excited by the day about these twins. I have my nucal scan Wednesday, my bumps growing nicely, I'm feeling better (tho not 100%) and I'm loving telling friends and seeing their reactions! One friend last night just cried when I told her. She's very broody herself so I jokingly offered her one of ours, to which she burst out even more so in tears because you wouldn't naturally assume your friend is having twins!!! She's so excited for us. I just love the reactions of people! :) Just need some clothes that fit now!!! I'm down to 3 long skirts, 3 tops, 1 pair of thin trousers! My bras don't fit at all either!

I've considered going to Aquanatal - has any body been and if so at what gestation did you start going. Is 12 weeks too early to start? Also thinking about yoga - same questions.

Lavitabellissima · 06/08/2010 11:13

Hi Tabby Glad you are starting to feel a little better Smile

I am going to book aquanatal classes, think you can start going whenever. I'm going to stay off yoga as I've got a bad back but I used to do a lot of it so would really recommend it!

jjkm It's wonderful when you stop feeling sick and vomiting although I had about 3 weeks respite and have now moved onto heartburn and acid reflux instead! now have super strength Gaviscon on prescription!

I have another scan tomorrow afternoon so should know for sure if they are boys or girls Smile

smokeybacon · 09/08/2010 10:17

lavita hope scan goes well today. Wonder what you are having???

I am really struggling with this bump. Its soooooo heavy, and I'm beginning to be restricted by it. DH took the DSs to a fair yesterday and I daren't go with them as if I'm on my feet for more than say 20 mins, I can really feel it in my back, legs and (ahem) between my legs. I'm only 24 + 3 so god knows what it will be like in the next few weeks. I can tell when I've done to much as I can feel pressure between my legs (TMI probably - sorry).

Aquanatal sounds lovely. I think I may look into some classes here as to have the bumps weight releieved by the water would be great.

Lavitabellissima · 09/08/2010 10:58

My local pool is undergoing refurbishment and won't re open until the end of September so I think aquanatal is out unfortunately.

Smokey I have seen a physio and am wearing a pregnancy support belt to work in as I'm on my feet a lot and it's very supportive.

Has anyone else had Braxton Hicks? I didn't think I had until I read the symptoms, and I thought it was just the twins moving at the same time! very common though so nothing to worry about!

smokeybacon · 09/08/2010 11:01

I reckon I am getting BH too, lavita. Bump feels very tight on occasions. Perhaps thats adding to the level of discomfort.

Will investigate preg belts. What sort do you have? Have looked at a Belly Bra which looks like a sort of vest. But not sure how much support they offer.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 09/08/2010 13:07

Hi ladies, sorry haven't been around I just feel so bloomin' terrible, sick all day and so tired!! I know by 12 weeks it will settle (fingers crossed) but as Lavita said then it will be heartburn! How did your scan go Lavita? Smokey poor you with your bump, Aquanatal will feel nice on your bump :) Are you all working? I am a childminder and I know I am going to struggle with all the kids! When did you/are you planning on giving up work? JJkm good news that the sickness has passed now :) Tabby I am only 8 weeks and the thought of buying anything yet scares the bejezuz outta me! I think I will wait until 28ish weeks like sassy said especially given my history. Although I had to buy myself some new maternity jeans ALREADY! The thought of wearing my normal jeans is just a no-no. When did you guys start showing? Maybe I have eaten too many pies (although I have been careful what I eat) or is it that this is my 4th Pregnancy (3rd in the last 18 months) and that it is twins? Still can't quite believe I am having twins Shock Grin

Surprisetwins · 09/08/2010 13:49

Hi

Am also pregnant with identical twins and just joined mumsnet so all new to me. Will be 20 weeks on Thursday - all going ok though as have to have scans every two weeks (as in the same placenta) I feel I'm living a bit too much from week to week. However have stopped reading everything on the internet as was going crazy after a doctor said one was way too small a few weeks ago - since then have been eating heaps, taking vitamins and iron supplements and I now have quite a massive bump and at last scan they both were on track which was a relied.

Silly question but we went car hunting at the w/end as we will have twins, plus my OH has a 10 year old son and we also have quite a large dog - any recommendations?! not buying anything yet as too early but would be good to hear some views.

Hope all is going well with everyone

sassy34264 · 09/08/2010 18:01

magic I had a very small bump at 8 weeks and put on about 10 pounds in 4 weeks but then lost 8lbs in next 4 weeks through morning sickness. I looked 6 months when i was four and looked 9 months when i was 6.

I have found the last 3 weeks so hard. Was doing quite well (still running about and getting on with stuff) until about 32 weeks. Now I can't walk far and even standing still in a queue in a shop is hard work.
Well, it just got a whole lot worse. My back has been going intermittedley for the last few days, but it's gone alot just today. Think i may be on bed rest or need a wheelchair at this rate. Braxton hicks are every day, but today they are almost constant. No pain though.

sassy34264 · 09/08/2010 18:05

Hi surprise Congratulations and welcome.

Can't recomend a car, sorry. :)

Lavitabellissima · 09/08/2010 19:24

Welcome Surprisetwins I am also having identical twins, 1 placenta and have scans every 2 weeks. Try not to worry too much, it's more common than you realise.

I am 22 weeks today and from my scan today found out we were having 2 little girls!!!! Smile Smile Grin

smokeybacon · 09/08/2010 19:32

Two girls lavita!!! Think of the fabulous shopping you can do now!!

surprise hello and congratulations. DH is on the hunt for a car for us to as we will be needing a 7 seater (the twins will make 4 DCs here). We have it narrowed down to a FOrd Galaxy or a Chrysler Grand Voyager. The Galaxy was recommended by another large family, but I like the sound of the Chrysler and its sliding doors.
