Right, I've done the honours. This is our new thread.

And don't forget the stats thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DuelingFanjo · 12/06/2010 21:50

Thank you for your messages and Chooster I really appreciate you sharing your story. I have just got back from seeing a friend who said everything I wanted to hear and didn't judge me or try to persuade me either way. I am going to have the Amnio as I feel like I do want to know for sure. She had a high risk with all her children but only had the amnio with one of them as she was older and has put my mind at rest about the procedure a bit.

The consultant talked us through our choices and it seems my bloods brought my risk down a little but my age means that I was already a high risk and the scan was ok but not wonderful.

Sorry for bringing the thread down yesterday.

MrsSnaplegs · 12/06/2010 21:56

DF - what are you apologising for that's what these threads are for!! We'd be annoyed if you were worried and bottling it up!! We are all here for each other through the bad and the good and the Tena Lady moments!

Lavitabella · 12/06/2010 22:30

DF - I agree with MrsSnaplegs, I am finding this thread a real outlet and support, so don't apologise and I'd also like to say thanks to everyone I hope everything goes well for you, and these tests put your mind at ease.

MrsSnaplegs - love your name but you should be MrsSupermum for your efforts today. I wish I had your mindset, I do not have the inclination to do anything especially cooking!

ebrookm · 13/06/2010 04:51

Hi everyone!

It's been a v. long time since I have posted. Happy to skim through and see the good news and all of the support for each other. I've been in the US for the past week or so and have not been on the computer much when I popped on MN...

To DF (and anyone else with scan concerns), I want to share that at my 12 week scan, the NHS gave us a 1/10 chance of a chromosomal abnormality, etc. I then had a second opinion at the Fetal Medicine Centre which gave me a 1/16 chance.

The babe looked healthy, but the nuchal fluid was thick! Nasal bone was present and heartbeat was great. We even saw the little guy swallowing and bouncing about.

We opted to have a CVS and it was a difficult decision, but one I am thankful for as the results came back clear.

The entire process was nerve-wrecking and completely draining! I feel for you, DF. But hang in there.

I know it's a bit hokey-pokey, but a friend suggested meditation (which I do not actually fully understand) but while we were going through this difficult situation, she suggested that anytime I felt overwhelmed to take a deep breath and to imagine breathing in all of the love ... from family, your partner, your children and your baby ... then when you breath out to imagine breathing out the fear and all negative feelings.

Oddly, that really helped me - perhaps to distract, but also to comfort.

Best get to bed ... it's nearly midnight here and 5am for you lot!

All the best for your pregnancies and well-being!!!

xx

GreenGeekGirl · 13/06/2010 09:59

Welcome seomum and welcome back ebrookm

I can't remember who first mentioned the itching but when you did I hadn't had any at all but then spent all day yesterday with an itchy tummy! Speaking of tummies I have an unmistakable bump now. It's really quite obvious that I'm pregnant and not just a pie-scoffer (although mmmm pies).

13+5 today and feeling much more 2nd trimester now. Sickness still there a bit but totally manageable now. Still get tired more easily than before but the utter exhaustion has now gone - bliss.

I went into London town yesterday morning and managed to stay there bumbling about all day and evening, so I was very proud of myself. I bought two stripey organic babygrows from a People Tree sample sale, went to see a play about Women & Politics and then met up with DH for a date at my favourite Ethiopian restaurant - yum. Felt like a normal person, having a normal day for the first time in ages!

Can't wait for Wednesday's scan bounce

OnlyWantsOne · 13/06/2010 10:32

ladies I have added some photos to my profile for you to see

DuelingFanjo · 13/06/2010 10:39

Lovely picture OWO very clear.

Lots of scans next week, how exciting.

ebrookm Thank you I will practice the breathing.
Can I get a CVS if I am past 14 weeks?

SeoMum · 13/06/2010 15:00

OWO thanks for sharing your scan very clear I have my scan on wed so will post then! Can't wait.
A my sisters boss has donated some maternity clothes and baby clothes to me which I am very grateful for but my sister is keeping hold of the baby clothes as she says its bad luck to have them before the baby is born. I have not heard this before has anyone else heard of any superstitions like this?
Lovely to see everyone sharing their pregnancy stories on here x x

Thought I'd catch up on all your news but a bit overwhelmed by the number of pages on the last thread so skipped to this one...Hi to new folks.

We're spending our last weekend at home in Bristol before moving for a country life to the middle of Wales on Monday. Very glad we decided to get the removal co. to do the packing! Have been in Bristol over 10 years & it sounds like I'm not the only one on this thread to have loved it. Looking forward to new adventures though, hopefully featuring pets & chickens before long. (Been pining the loss of Peter our house rabbit for over a year now & can't wait to have furry friends again!).

15 Weeks now...trying to make it not fly too fast but looking forward to 20 wk scan. Would like to know if littln's a boy or girl...is everyone else hoping to find out too?

WalkTheDog · 13/06/2010 17:08

Hi all

Have been reading all the news.

Thanks for sharing DF and Seomum. We aren't having a nuchal scan - can't get on NHS here and if went private I would have to drive myself at least a 5 hour round trip - way to tiring for me to do that. OH wants me to have blood test, I'm just concerned that my age (39) will already put me in a high risk group, but will have it done, not sure when yet, sometime after scan (another 9 days to go). 9 days seems forever away, I just want to see something is in there and it's ok.

Glad to hear quite a few of you are still tired. My sickness has almost fully gone, but I feel like a walking zombie so much of the time. Shouldn't complain because at least I can now wash the dishes without having to sit down after.

Wholelottalove · 13/06/2010 19:17

Hi everyone and welcome to seomum and welcome back ebrookm

Quick question for people who have had dating scans, did you drink lots of water beforehand? My letter this time doesn't actually tell me to and I seem to remember a long and painful wait last time round with a massive bladder. Wondering whether I need to this time or have the rules changed?

DD is on day 3 of potty training and went entire day including a few hours at her Grannie's house without an accident So proud of her, although have to admit bribing her with bits of choc seems to have been the way forward... Wondering how it will go at nursery tomorrow, but so far process seems to have been painless. She's had six accidents in first two days (all wees) and that's been it. I think it is because she asked for knickers and potty so was obviously ready. Looking forward to a few nappy free months before it all starts again!

Wholelottalove · 13/06/2010 19:19

PS OWO just looked at your pic- lovely and clear. It's amazing how much you can see even on 12 week scan.

Miffster · 13/06/2010 19:30

Duelling, glad you were able to get some clarity and reassurance from the consultant and good luck with the next steps.

Following yesterday's horrible exhausting stressy house cleaning for the prosepctive buyers/estate agent photos, I am ill. I have a shitty cold, sneezing, sore stuffy nose, swollen sore tongue...ugh. I never get summer colds, but the worst thing is, I now can't visit my brother who's having chemo for the bone marrow transplant as any bug could be highly dangerous for him with no immune system.

Saw my sister today and now worrying that I have passed it to her, which will mean he will be all alone without family visitors this week, which is when he has the most serious chemo to knock out all his bone marrow prior to the graft of the donor marrow.

worries

WalkTheDog · 13/06/2010 19:45

wholelottalove MW told me I had to drink 1 to 1 1/2 litres. Mine is 10am, so she said have a pee when you get up and then start drinking. She said if you drink too much then it's too uncomfy to have US pressing on tummy and you have to try and pee a tiny bit.

I spent an afternoon watching US when I was a student, a few mums got sent back out to drink more.

WalkTheDog · 13/06/2010 19:47

miffster maybe its not so much a cold more a reaction to all the dust you probably have been bringing up with your cleaning.

maxpower · 13/06/2010 20:22

Hello all, it's been ages since I last checked in. Went for NS on Friday - one fidgity baby found (hooray) but it was a bit too small for them to do the measurments so I'm going back this Friday for another try. Had a classic coversation with the receptionist when trying to rebook:

Me - can I rebook this scan for next week please? (handing over paperwork given to me by the dr which confirmed all this)
Her - (taps away at computer) can you come at 6.45pm on 1st July ?
Me - er, the dr wants me to rebook it for next week. The 1st July will be too late to do the nuchal measurement.
Her - all the drs are away at a conference
Me - so you're telling me there's no scanning taking place between now and 1st July?
Her - the drs are at a conference w/c 21st June
Me - and the dr wants me to have a scan the w/c 14th June, so that shouldn't be a problem.
(Pause) Her - I'll go and ask the dr (comes back a few mins later) Can you come at 3.30pm on Friday?

Anyway, hope everyone enjoys their scans next week.

RaceyLacey · 13/06/2010 21:49

Hi been away this weekend for dp's nieces birthday. Had a great weekend, would have been much better though minus the pollen .

Just going to put a couple of scan pics up on my profile, then will catch up on your news.

Persnickety · 13/06/2010 22:24

Haven't got time to catch up properly. But wanted to wish my scan buddies good luck tomorrow.

OP posts:
SpangleMaker · 13/06/2010 22:57

Hello! V quick one from me - need to head to bed. Just wanted to wish Persnickety and everyone else having scans tomorrow good luck.

Dueling glad you got some clarity from the consultant and have agreed on a way forward. Hope the wait for an amnio isn't too stressful.

Chooster good luck for your CVS. How long will you have to wait for the results.

Seomum welcome! I'm in North Staffs but v close to Cheshire border.

Spent today sorting out clothes & going through old & new maternity things so when I get up tomorrow I should have a choice of things that actually fit!

Goodnight all. Looking forward to hearing about some good scans.

Lavitabella · 13/06/2010 23:16

OWO & RaceyLacey Lovely scan pictures so clear I'll try and work out setting my profile and will scan some pics on too. I'm not the most computer friendly person so it might take me a while

Good luck for everyone else with scans coming up!

OnlyWantsOne · 14/06/2010 08:10

hey all hope you're ok, managed to listen to baby heart beat with my doppler this morning DP was pretty amazed - so glad I got it back from the people that have had it the last 3 years!!

emma2617 · 14/06/2010 08:31

Morning Ladies! Not got chance to catch up as in work and mad busy...but obviously I have time to post!!!

Been at my mum and dads this weekend and we took DS to a petting farm type thing which was great fun, after he stopped being grumpy because we'd woken him up!! DP stayed at home, we are arguing so much at the moment, we were strong enough to survive him being made redundant once when DS was born, but for a second time while I'm starting up Slimming World and going through all the pregnancy crap just feels like it's too much Just hoping this scan will remind us of why we are together and how lucky we are.

Have my scan at 2.50pm, really can't wait...finishing work at 12 to pick up DS and get to hospital for start of ante-natal appt at 2pm! Wishing lots of luck to my scan buddies, hope to see lots of reports of healthy little bambinos this evening!

NickiSue · 14/06/2010 08:40

Morning all! Found the new thread lol, 73 posts already!
Anyone who read my scary call from the hospital post the other week will laugh... I got a letter from the hospital Saturday, ripped it open..... "Dear Mrs C, we would like to invite you to a cervical smear..." GROAN! Lol

Looks like I'm not the only one with a good bump! I'm still really struggling getting maternity jeans as I need 27" leg and over bump as everything else is unbuttoned and risking my flashing all! (Scary thought!).

I went to a baby & toddler fair yesterday which I throughly enjoyed! I used to exhibit at these things but don't anymore and it was such fun being on the other side of the table and being the pregnant one! Loads of stallholders I knew were shocked I was 14+4 yesterday, as I look further on bump-wise. (Which was nice lol!).

Hope everyone elses weekends have gone ok x

WhatWillSantaBring · 14/06/2010 09:21

Morning all and good luck to everyone having scans today and tomorrow (which includes me).

Chooster and DF - what a very difficult thing to have to go through. We had some pre-conception genetic counselling about a particularly nasty disease and it makes you really have to think about yourself, your beliefs and what you would actually do if push came to shove. It must be even more emotionally draining to have to go through the same thought process in pg.

Still getting tiredness (missed all the lovely sunshine yesterday afternoon as I had to pass out and sleep for two hours) and nausea. I'm officially 12+3 today but I think I could be 13 - I guess I'll find out tomorrow!

NickiSue - I got my cervical smear reminder too, though obv not going to bother till after the birth, as even if they did find something that needed treating, I wouldn't get anything done till afterwards anyway. Now I've just got to remember to book it sometime in Jan or Feb... how on earth will I remember!!!

Told BIL and SIL at the weekend - they hadn't got a clue (even though I haven't been drinking the last three times I've seen them), but said they did wander if I'd been enjoying too many meals out recently as I'd got a bit portly round the middle... "because you're always so slim normally" which mad me smile, as I've never considered myself to be slim

Better go, work to be done. Dreading telling the boss on Wednesday (presuming of course that the scan is a good'un.).

x

Morning all. Busy day and week for me and I feel really ill. My irons level are 11.7 so it can't be that. I feel really faint, breathless (feel like I can't breath a lot), palpitations and really tired. I have the drs in the morning but loads to do today. Dd and ds1 off school. Ds1 has a nurse app this morning and then back to school. Went Ikea yesterday for some kids furniture so sorting that today too.

I have the dentist later as part of a back tooth chipped off yesterday eating a chewy sweet I am terrified of dentists too I have felt soooooo stressed lately, all the stuff with ex is really getting to me, especially as the kids will suffer and are so much happier now without worrying about him.

Sorry to moan again, will try and catch up later.
