Good luck Persnickety!

Great new name Cheryl!

I'm having crazy dreams every night at the moment. I have been since the day I got my BFP but they seem to be getting increasingly vivid. Anyone else?

Holidays!

I'm off (just me) for a week on Sunday to visit my cousin in Toulouse. We might also hop across the border to Barcelona, as she's only a couple of hours away. Bit of a surprise holiday really. I was supposed to be going to a UN conference in Geneva next week, which is BTW why I didn't get Glasto tickets, and then it was cancelled after the resale so I ended up with non-refunable Eurostar tickets and no Glasto tickets. Hurrumph! Well at least I get to see my cousin.

Then the same cousin is getting married in August so DH and I be trouping back there with all our families for a few days. Then after than DH and I are wending our way down to Malta to stay with my SIL for a week, who's a diving instructor there. As good little green geeks we don't fly though, so I spent all yesterday morning researching our trains and ferries. It obviously takes a bit longer than flying and is about twice the cost but most of the tavelling is done on overnight trains and we get whole day stopovers in Rome and Turin, so we don't really feel like we're missing out. Can't wait!

Chooster · 25/06/2010 09:57

Hi all,

I've been a bt absent recently and have no hope in catching up! I'll have a read of as much as I can over lunch today at work! Mind you with all this gorgeous sunshine I'm tempted by the local park .

Good luck to those having amnio / cvs. I think persnickerty is today? I had a good scan at 16 weeks and the condition that affected my middle son doesn't seem to be affecting this baby which is a massive relief. I wanted an amnio on the day of the scan but opted for the blood triple test first. The results came back with 1 in 202 for Downs which is not bad for my age (38) but still puts me in high risk. Because of my previous experience I'm quite paranoid about something going wrong so I was looking to the blood test to give me some comfort which unfortunately it doesn't. So i've decided to go for the amnio which is taking place next Tuesday. I hope we all get good results .

On a brighter note DH and I went away for a lovely weekend to Lanzarote without the boys . It was only 3 days but I feel like a different person after it. Before I went I was still being sick in the evening and was in tears the night before we went with a really bad headache and throwing up... But when we were away we did NOTHING except lie in teh sun and read - oh and eat and drink some yummy things! I felt fab and still feel so much brighter now we are back. Although I adore spending time with my gorgeous boys, it was good to be a bit more carefree .

Right, better go - in the office and should be working! Hope everyone is OK... .

Aimee - I did briefly see your thread, I'll take another look at will post if I've got anything to add.

Miffster · 25/06/2010 10:44

Hi all

massive apologies - have been reading the thread like mad all week but not contributing as have been at work and can't write long notes of who said what and then reply to everyone individually. But I have been thinking of you all and am sending special good luck thoughts to those having extra scans.

In my news: brother had bone marrow transplant and is doing well so far but it is still very early days for him. We found a chain free full price buyer for our flat - but today they pulled out so we have to put it back on the market.

Am seriously thinking whether we should just give up trying to sell as thought of a summer of viewings is grim, and *how can we go on holiday if we have to show flat all the time? We were just about to book 2 weeks in July.

I just don't know what to do now, whether to keep trying to sell our small flat and look for somewhere to rent, (so we'd have baby in rented place), or just stay put for now. To complicate things further, we are still waiting to hear if DH has got job abroad which means moving next year when baby is 3 months or younger.

The plan was to sell our small flat in 2nd trimester, move to rented bigger flat then either buy bigger place next year when I'm on mat leave, or go abroad if DH job happens.

*We have a housesitter when go on on hol to look after the cat and aquarium of fish so we can't leave flat empty & hand keys to estate agent in our absence - it wouldn't work, the housesitter is not able to keep flat in showhouse style as they are disabled.

MrsSnaplegs · 25/06/2010 10:46

persnickety good luck for today - will be thinking of you! also to anyone else who has scans /amnio/cvs today or monday.

Glad it is Friday - boss is letting me go at lunchtime so I can catch train home, 3 hours to and across London does not really appeal in this weather!

Looking forward to seeing DH and DD,I do so miss them when I am away like this.
DH had bad news yesterday, just found out one of his friends passed away so think he needs a big hug (although he would never admit that

hope you all have a lovely weekend and that the weather holds out for us all!

Mimimoomoo · 25/06/2010 10:54

good luck for upcoming scans/cvs/amnios etc.

xx

CherylAnnTweedy · 25/06/2010 15:54

Welcome minimoomoo.

Mumatron, I ahd my 16wk appt on Weds, mw listened to babys hertbeat for ages. In previous pregnancies they've listened to the heartbeat at booking in appt at 13/14 wks. If your mw at your next appt doesn't offer to listen to the heartbeat, just ask.

emmaxmas · 25/06/2010 16:28

Hi all

haven't posted for ages but have been keeping up with the thread.

Persnickety have been thinking of you today and do hope that the results are good for you. Hope that you manage to enjoy your anniversary.

Miffster great to hear that your brother is going well so far- that must be a big relief for you.

14 weeks for me tomorrow. Have had quite a shite week with migraines- so frustrating not being able to take anything for them.

Had a bit of a row with DH last night as feeling like we're not really spending any quality time together. I would love to throw his iphone out the window as he seems to spend more time interacting with it than with me- always playing fricking games on it. Does my head in. If it's not the iphone it's watching yet another football match (ones that he's not even that interested in) gRRRR. Anyway, handled it the wrong way by getting in a major huff and storming off into another room without explaining why I have been getting so pissed off. As DH pointed out he's not a mindreader. Oh well, think we've sorted things out and hopefully we'll get to spend some quality time together this weekend.

Anyway, this has turned into rather a long post so I'll let you get on!

Have a good weekend everyone- welcome to minimoomoo too.

Persnickety · 25/06/2010 18:46

Hello. Had the CVs today, and it wasn't too bad. I won't say I enjoyed it. She gave me two local anaesthtic jabs which were okay, but didn't numb every thing so there were a couple of uncomfortable bits. I had been pondering before the procedure whether or not I would watch it on the screen. But she pulled out the big CVS needle and I promptly shut my eyes, and squeezed DH's hand. Then each time I felt som discomfort I tightened my grip. I think he might have been in more pain than I was. Then, after the needle was out, she checked the heart beat. Apparently a lot of CVs miscarriages happen right then and there and the baby's heart stops. But, the heart beat was strong, he was wiggling all over, and she checked the heart beat again after a couple of minutes. So, we made it through the CVS. The only risk now is possible infection. So I am to stay on the lookout for fever or pain or bleeding, none of which have appeared in the first six hours. I should have my initial results on Tues. or Wed.

I am not glad I have had the CVS. I will know for sure about Downs and a few other chromosomal abnormalities. But, all the signs are good now. So, I'm pretty confident all will be well.

Hope everyone else a nice (less eventful) day.

Sorry, I meant to say I am glad I had the CVS. And even more glad that it is over.

OP posts:
mumatron · 25/06/2010 18:53

glad it wasn't too bad. hope the results are good.

Miffster · 25/06/2010 18:57

Just came back to see how Persnickety's tests went, so glad you saw heart beat, fingers crossed you can breathe a sigh of relief and start relaxing into your pregnancy by teatime on Weds!

CherylAnnTweedy · 25/06/2010 19:45

Glad today went well Persnickety & baby is well. Will be keeping fingers crossed for good results for you next week.

Chooster · 25/06/2010 19:59

Glad it went well persnickerty!! I had a CVS in my last pregnancy and like you say its not pleasant but not too bad... Very pleased that all seems to be well. Hopefully your good luck will rub off on me for my amnio on Tuesday... By then you'll hopefully have some happy results .

Wholelottalove · 25/06/2010 20:39

Glad all went ok Persnickety and I hope it is positive news for you next week.

Good luck for your amnio Chooster.

squistle · 26/06/2010 08:13

Well done Persnickety. Good luck with the results, everything is crossed for you!

93pjb · 26/06/2010 08:32

persnickety glad the cvs wasn't too bad. Fingers firmly crossed for next weeks results.

chooster so pleased to hear your news was good too and good luck for next week.

miffster good news about your brother but crap news about the flat. Exactly the same thing happened to us yesterday (on my birthday). Our cash buyer pulled out so now we are in the same place we were three months ago only thousands worse off. I really wanted to move by the end of sept for dd's sake especially as I'm quite likely not to get past 37 weeks. I so wanted to avoid moving house and a new sibling happening too close together . I'm going to do some sums and see if we could remortgage this place and rent it rather than selling but not sure I'll be able to afford maternity leave if I do that!

On the plus side I am enjoying typing this on the lovely new iPad that lovely dh gave me yesterday

notso · 26/06/2010 08:51

Hello all,

Persnickety Glad it wasn't too bad and that baby was ok. Hope you both stay well and the results come quickly.

emmaxmas sorry you have been rowing, I've found myself flying off the handle recently, mostly because I'm so knackered at being back in work.

Welcome mini* Mumatron my midwife said she would listen for HB at 16 week appt, also you may well feel the baby before then, I felt my first move at around 16/17 weeks although I didn't realise it was the baby for a while!

MrsSnaplegs Your poor DH, glad you got to go home early.

GGG Your holiday sounds fantastic, we are thinking about going somewhere by train as I can't fly, bit nervous about doing with the kids though.

Really struggling back at work, my thoughtful SN teacher has put me to work with the children with the most difficulties, so I've not been eased back into it, had to do a mammoth physio session yesterday. It was nice to have a big hug from my usual charges though, and catch up on work gossip, and theres only 2 1/2 weeks left until the summer holidays woo hoo.
Sickness seems to be stabalised at three times a day, and I can't eat enough cherries!
Baby is moving lots, especially when I move positions or am lying down. Still haven't found a comfortable non-wired bra, hoping to go to Bravissimo today.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Miffster Glad things seem to be ok so far for your brother.

Chooster Glad you had a nice break, good luck for Tuesday.

notso · 26/06/2010 08:52

My post has all jumbled up!

GreenGeekGirl · 26/06/2010 11:52

Nausea and heartburn today. Joy

93pjb iPad for birthday ... ooh nice!

notso I LOVE train travel! Last year we went to Vietnam, through Russia, Mongolia, China & SE Asia without flying. Trains are just so much better than driving (you can get up and move around) and athough they might take longer than flying you get to see so much along the way. It's amazing how far you can get in a couple of days (like Malta or Morocco!). If you haven't already, investigate seat61.com which tells you how to get everywhere by train. There's also a great section on travelling with kids, which points out that for kids the travelling is just part of the holiday - we only learn to hate the travel bit as adults:
www.seat61.com/Europe.htm#Children
And I just stumbled across this site too, which has some good tips:
www.summeractivitiesforkids.co.uk/stress-free-travel-with-kids-plane-train.html
Sorry for the splurge but it's something I feel really passionate about!

Persnickety · 26/06/2010 18:43
