Possibly our last ante-natal thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

memphis hope the pampering is lovely today, I've been waxed which is not quite the same thing I will do a spray tan at the weekend I think. I use a dry mist spray and don't have any problems but I'm quite olive anyway so can probably hide it well!

re the toenails, it's not elegant but it had to be done and I'm not sure my husband has the coordination to not paint my entire foot!

stac good luck with the appointment

hi gibbon thank you x

dh I feel an un-mn hug maybe in order. Sounds like late pregnancy hormones aren't helping at all.

Sorry for challenging your pelvic floor nixster! Re the raspberry leaf, I drank the tea from 34 wks with dd and I think it helped, total labour time was 2 hrs 45. I'm doing a mix of the tablets and tea this time but really the tea is for after when I won't want to fill baby with caffinated tea and it should help the uterus boing back. It's supposed to be quite a good tonic and help your milk along too.

norky hope you're not coming down with anything...I'm stuffed up but it's hayfever related so got a nasal spray on prescription which hopefully will kick in really fast!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 11/06/2010 11:14

wonder i nearly sprayed tea on my laptop!! I haven't been for a few days...gonna dig out the tin of prunes I've been saving lol

Wonderstuff · 11/06/2010 11:31

Prunes for pudding last night and 2 bananas and 2 peaches yesterday

kapars · 11/06/2010 11:40

Hey ladies,
irishfairy I've been doing the natal hypnotherapy cds since about 28 weeks. I loved the pregnancy relaxation and I am now on the birth preparation. I find that they chill me out just listening to them which has to be a good thing though will have to see what happens on the big day. I have heard nothing but positive things about them.
nixter I'm also on the raspberry leaf tea on advice of my antenatal yoga teacher - though I often forget to drink it. As you can see I'm trying everything and anything this pregnancy!
Perineal massage has also been attempted though not with much success....
wwsw was that 2hrs 45 mins with your first pregnancy or second???!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 11/06/2010 12:00

I do love prunes Apples work pretty well too so I'm having a munch on one now!

kapars 2 hrs 45 with dc1 I'm a little concerned that I might not make it to the hosp this time so mw has told me to call her when I think things are starting and she'll make the decision on an ambulance. Problem is, the hospital is in the city and it's v hard to park anywhere on a weekday, we drove round for 35 mins looking for a space before my 20 wk scan and had to park a good 10 minute walk away!

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 12:03

Me and my friend both bought raspberry leaf tea last pregnancy...

I forgot to drink mine. Found it about 3 weeks after I got home from the hospital

Becky got through boxes of the stuff. First baby born in 2 hours 10, second in 1 hour 20.

Anecdotal, and I guess two people doesn't make for a very solid study, but I'm start drinking it now if I wasn't having a section anyway

Chulita · 11/06/2010 12:05

I took raspberry leaf tablets and DD and I fought for 6 days before she came out. Might try them again this time though, who knows how long she'd have been if I hadn't taken them

dh remember that you get child benefit and it's a reasonable amount til they're a year old - helps quite a bit!

I've been doing the hypnotherapy birth preparation too and I'm sure it's made me excited to give birth. I was petrified up until about 3 weeks ago and now I can't wait!

Not bad, not bad. Couple of minor cosmetic tweaks and we almost lost Memphis, but on the whole you've all done very well! Biscuits for all!

Can I come over to your house on Sundays for breakfast, Gracie? I like those shows on Challenge! In my house the TV is sat perpetually on BBC News, DH's obsession. I don't mind it for a bit, but after watching the same article for the third time it gets rather dull.

Not much to report here... I had a sudden epiphany yesterday as I got home when I realised that I have no lock for my shiny new travel system if I ever need to leave it somewhere out in public temporarily. But that has been rectified now, thanks to the joy of Amazon.

Chulita · 11/06/2010 12:19

Is anyone else fed up of either sitting up straight or leaning forwards? lo's currently op and mw said I must not lean back or I'll be doomed to another back to back labour. Sitting up straight hurts my back, leaning forwards makes little one poke me in the bladder, birth ball only works for a little while and my bump bag is only good for watching tv cos you can't read/crochet on it and I can't relax on it when DD's running around cos she clambers all over me. [sigh]

spirael why would you need to leave it out in public? [nosey emoticon]

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 12:21

A lock for a buggy? I have never heard of such a thing, but thanks to google I have now been enlightened.

Always kind of trusted that a buggy is a large item to try and get away with swiping. Maybe living in the lake district has made me naive to the ways of the rest of the world. Perhaps I should buy one before we move....

TBH, can't envisage leaving buggy anywhere, if I took it, it's because I needed it to load all my shopping into!! Other than that we are a sling/walk type family (e.g. you can ride in the sling until you take your first steps - then you walk )

I have seen buggy of my dreams on ebay - made an offer of £120 (without asking DH) because I assumed it would be rejected (RRP is £699 and it looks brand new. Car seat is still in cellophane!). Just got a message back saying she would accept £150. What should I do?

I want it soooooo badly, but I'm pretty sure DH would make me wait until we've moved house...

Also, it's white with pink trim. If I get it, DH will know for sure we are having a girl and he wants a surprise!!

memphis83 · 11/06/2010 12:31

gracie sounds like a bargain and one not to be missed can you not have it delivered to a friend or relative? or will they be living too far away? if not speak to your dh if he agrees when it arrives you could put black bags around it to hide colour from dh and give him instructions not to peek!!

Chulita · 11/06/2010 12:31

Oh, I see! I leave mine outside my friends' houses all the time but they do live on an army base so you'd hope it would be secure-ish.

gracie I'd go for it but see if you could store it somewhere else so your dh doesn't see it (pils/parents/friends) £150 isn't much more than you suggested. What is it?

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 12:56

Not much more, but I probably shouldn't have suggested anything

Anyway, I've bought it now and I shall just have to face the consequences!!!!

Problem is, the reason it is so cheap is because the seller will only accept local pick up (I asked about courier, she said no) and as I can't drive any more that mean DH has to do it

I don't care. I just got a Leebruss Premier Lift with all the accessories including car seat and fancy chrome chassis for £150!!!

Spirael · 11/06/2010 12:57

I live within a few miles of Leeds city centre. The immediate area I'm in isn't too bad, but there are quite a few more questionable areas within walking distance, as you'll generally find in a big city. I know people who have had bikes and such swiped, so I don't want to take any chances with the new travel system that my parents got for me.

The scenarios I can see myself using a lock is for when I'm at the doctors surgery (which was subjected to an arson attack last year...) or equivalent with LO. Places likely to be within walking distance of my house, so I'd wander around with the buggy.

Say LO then needs changing, the changing room at my doctors surgery isn't big enough to take the entire buggy inside. So I can lock the buggy to the railings/chair/pensioner nearby and go change LO without worrying that my travel system will have mysteriously disappeared by the time I get back.

I can't really do much about protecting it from being potentially ignited in an arson attack. Maybe some kind of heat sensing alarm/sprinkler?

Chulita · 11/06/2010 13:05

Bargain price gracie it looks lovely online

kapars · 11/06/2010 13:08

wwsw Wow - so what do you put your short labour down to - not just the raspberry leaf tea. You must have been very relaxed?
I'm going to get some pills to have along with the tea I've been drinking then!
chulita I am so over sitting up straight and I desperately want to roll around on my stomach. The only way I can relax is if I lie down in bed surrounded by hundreds of pillows.
I'm sitting on my birthing ball all day to work but had enough of that.
gracie bargain on the pram!

stac14 · 11/06/2010 13:26

Hey ladies

busy here today, bet its cause mat leave has started lol

chulita annd kapars I agree totally sick of having to sit and lie in the same positions. Is anyone getting a shooting pain in fanjo when they turn in bed?

lol at 70's fanjo btw wonder I need to get mine sorted even though it is a section, frightened the hair will get caught in my scar

wwsw well impressed you managed to do your toe nails. I need mine done for tomorrow as its my baby shower

gracie thanks for the fake tan tips, is the ambre solair spray tan any good? Any tips on how to do it? I would have went for the travel system too especially at that price, could you ask the seller to wrap it in black bags?

mlic how you have a great last day, you never know you may get a pressie

memphis enjoy your pamapering day, wish it was me lol

dh have you already paid for your travel system? if so you have nothing to thank her for. She should be aware that you and dp are struggling instead of trying to take from you. Anyway financially you'll be entitled to tax credits which for baby is about £50 per week and child benefit is £20 you probably will be entitled to working tax credit too based on dp's income. And memphis is right, you have the bulk, and loads of nappies by the sounds of it it wont be that bad. Chin up chick

Hey to everyone else, nice to hear from you all, cant wait till we get the pics of the first babies arriving

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 13:29

I'm soooo nervous. DH will be home for lunch soon and I won't be able to hide my excitement and I'll have to tell him!

I hope he's not mad

Spirael I've never had a buggy nicked, but now you mention the doctors, I do leave it outside there fairly regularly. And at several mums and tots groups. And at church...

Looks like I'm going to need a lock for my fancy new pram...

Chulita · 11/06/2010 13:46

stac I've had fanjo pains rolling over in bed for while now, horrible!

Lol gracie

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 16:09

Needn't have worried, DH wasn't thrilled by the purchase initially, but was so excited to find out we are having a girl he doesn't care. Says I could have spent £600!!!

I think he would have been equally please with a boy, but it is nice to have one of each.

Delta4 · 11/06/2010 16:39

Nixster I'm taking raspberry leaf tablets. I took them last time, and although the labour was long, I don't remember it being too bad.....

I'm taking them again, as you never know!

stac14 · 11/06/2010 16:48

chulita do you do anything for the pains or just yelp everytime you move? I have had it for while stupidly thought they would calm down. Dp is now very good at sleeping through my stranded whale act in bed

Does anyone have any suggestions of anything that helps with a section?

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 16:53

After my section I bathed everyday (sometimes twice!) with lavender and salt in the bath water. It really helps speed up healing and prevents infection.

My sister ended up being re-admitted/on antibiotics and all sorts after both her sections due to infections in the wound and it was really nasty. You definitely want to avoid that!

The nurses are nazi's and will make you get up and walk around the next day, so be prepared for that. It hurts, but there is morphine available, so don't be afraid to ask.

Don't really have any tips for during the actual section, because I was asleep

stac14 · 11/06/2010 17:28

thanks gracie was thinking of the healing process. I assumed that there wasnt much i could do regarding the op itself. Or even something to prepare the skin etc x

Anifersgirl · 11/06/2010 17:39

HI All

sorry not to post - just to let you know everything is good and I'm back home again. Just catching up with the thread.

Thanks for all your thoughts and messages
