Poor you, Gracie123. Hope your day gets better.

I was out with DH and his best friend last night. The best friend's wife is pregnant too. I know her but not very well and know him much better. Anyway, it turns out that he's not going to attend the birth. He says his wife will be better in the hands of professionals and that he has nothing to add and would not be of any assistance. He insists it's not that he's squeamish and I believe him. I think he's just a bit old-fashioned.

I gave him a right talking to. I probably overstepped the mark but I can't understand why he wouldn't want to share the experience with her and suspect she doesn't stand up for herself. Am I butting in where I'm not wanted or was I right to intervene on her behalf?

Poor Gracie can you get soe family in to help and give you a break at all???

DeeLite if she wants him there then he should reconsider. But everyone is different. I did not want DH there with me when we had DD as I am a very private person. But it meant a lot to him so he was there and now I want him there too. I can understand man who don't want to look for hours at the person they love in pain.. It's hard.

DeeLite · 19/06/2010 12:38

That's interesting, Jojobil. I can understand not wanting your husband there because you want to keep focused on the birth and I imagine it's possible I'll boot my DH out if he is distracting me but I think this guy's wife wants him there. I asked him and he said that it was "a touchy subject at home" and I didn't ask more because I had already said enough at that stage! I feel sorry for her - she's very submissive and I think she needs someone to stand up for her. I think I've given him enough food for thought now anyway but hopefully I haven't offended him because he is a very good friend.....though, yes, admittedly, sometimes a bit of an @rse .

memphis83 · 19/06/2010 13:19

gracie what a nightmare for you hope your day improves. im really worriend about people 6touching baby and germ so im already armed with alcohol hand wash and scratch mitts to stop them touching his hands!!
deelite i really didnt want dh in room as i give birth when i found out i was pregnant and didnt think he would argue that he wanted to so when he said he wanted to be there i was shocked and a bit disappointed, i wouldnt take it away from him as he wants to be there but if he starts flapping in there then he will be told to leave! hoping he will jut sit in corner looking pale rather than try and smother me!

Emster30 · 19/06/2010 14:10

I can't believe we're only 11 days from the start of July but not had our first birth yet! It's going to be so exciting when the births really get underway.

I am 35 weeks tomorrow - planning to pack a hospital bag this weekend, although I am leaving washing all the baby clothes until I'm on mat leave so will just put a few emergency bits in a bag and will repack properly once I have clean things. I've been to our local NCT nearly new sale this morning and picked up a load of Next neutral newborn vests/sleepsuits for the grand total of 60p!

My pelvis is really sore at the moment - I haven't suffered from PGP or anything but it's very uncomfortable now. I think the baby's head may have engaged somewhat as I've heard people describing the feeling as like having a bowling ball in your pelvis, which sounds about right!

DesperateHousewife21 · 19/06/2010 14:39

I hope all you ladies having babies first post pics of the little angels on here for us all to coo over!!

kkfairybrains · 19/06/2010 15:30

emster i was just thinking the same this morn its so hard to believe that nobody has went early! all good though that the babies are hanging in there til they're good and ready! im 38 weeks tomorrow! stil doesnt feel like i have only 2 weeks to go cause it doesnt feel like i've been preg long enough! very excited but stil doesnt seem real!
going to a bbq in my mums for my aunts birthday this eve.gorgeous day here but i havent really been out in it i've been sitting with my feet up most of the day so as i dont swell up! everytime i woke last night i had horrible leg cramps and i couldnt feel my hands so was stretching my leg out and shaking my hands like a mad woman! dp didnt know what was goingon when he woke up!lol!

DeeLite · 19/06/2010 15:40

kk, I know exactly how you feel. I don't think 40 weeks is long enough at all, particularly with a first baby (although I'll probably be eating these words at 41+6!!!).

I'm so behind on all my preparations including mental preparations. Three busy weeks ahead!

Gracie123 · 19/06/2010 16:36

Gosh! You are patient ladies!! I'm only 34 wks and I feel like I've been pg forever!!!

I don't have any family near by (we just left them! It took us 6.5 hours to drive home!!) but didn't want to stay on as it is so noisy and crowded there. Can't stand the noise of the world cup, esp. with ear/headache. Family seem to all be going deaf and need tv at 200decibels!

I do have friends who would probably help, but they all have young kids, don't think it's fair to inflict this on them. I genuinely can't keep my temperature down and don't want to give anyone's toddler this.

orangefizz · 19/06/2010 16:47

Gracie poor you, that sounds rubbish, can you get DS in bed early and have a rest yourself?

I have sciatic pain in my right buttock today, its really sore, only stops when i stand up, which is crap because i just want to lie down with feet up today...anyone else had this?

KK I agree, i too am 38 weeks tomorrow and can't believe only 2 weeks to go, seems to have gone really quickly, i'm getting quite anxious about labour and birth now, especially just not knowing when and how its going to happen.

We put DD in new toddler bed a few days ago and she has been fine with it, but when i went to the loo at 3.30am last night something made me check on her and she wasn't in bed - i started to panic and then saw her duvet on the floor and thought she might be under it - she wasn't, I suddenly saw a little leg sticking out from under the bed, poor little thing must have fallen out and then in her sleep crawled under the bed. Can't believe she didn't wake up, i had to drag her out from underneath...it made me feel really bad, not sure why, she was fine...

hope everyone else having a good saturday

stac14 · 19/06/2010 16:51

hey all, how are you? Its gorgeous here and meant to be lasting till next wee which worries me because i am too warm. No doubt the rain will start as soon as the kids finish school next friday.

I agree with you ladies about not feeling totally ready for lo coming. Its been 11yrs since ds was born so its new to me again. Also worried i may get pnd again fingers crossed i dont.

Aw gracie thats crap hope your day gets better

dee some people need to hear the truth so i think you did the right thing. You may have done that girl a favour hun

Anyone doing much today? Ds won 2 trophies and another medal for footy so proud of him x

DesperateHousewife21 · 19/06/2010 17:06

afternoon all

Had a nap for about an hour and half and feel ALOT better, could barely function before and now Im worried I wont be able to cope as when LO is here Ill be getting even less sleep

Also my pubic bones still really hurt, like Ive been kicked there, hope this doesnt mean LO has a huge head!

Sitting reading Pregnancy & Birth mag now

memphis83 · 19/06/2010 17:25

stac well done to your ds for his trophies!
orange at least dd was in a toddler bed so its quite low to ground its good that she has made transition so well!
dh newborn babies sleep around 18 hours a day all you have to do is bugger the cleaning and rest when he rests for 1st few weeks, my dh is fully aware that unless he cleans we will be living in a tip
we got the little bouncing chair out and its in living room so that our dog gets used to new things and he isnt phased by it which is great although he loves to take a toy to his bed with him and i bought lo a gruffalo and he thinks its his, i put it in the car seat so that dh can get used to fastenings on it and our dog sits by it hoping i take it out for him!! he doesnt destroy stuff but he had to learn his toys are his and lo's arent
going to sleep on sofa tonight in a vain bid to sleep dh doesnt want me to he thinks of sofa as the bed he sleeps on after a fight but its only place i can get comfy!
weve got pizza and wedges for tea im going to miss my friday and satuday junk food when he diet starts!

Gracie123 · 19/06/2010 18:40

Ds quite often pulls his blanket down so he can sleep on the floor. Never gone under the bed though!

I think he likes to sleep between the bookshelf and the bed because it's a smaller space. He seems to like being crammed in there, and when he sleeps in a cot at grandmas he always wants all his trucks and tractors and books with him. Wierd kid.

Not sure if I'm experiencing sciatica, but whatever it is, it's bloody painful. Shooting pains in my shoulder and right arm, whole arm and hand tingling and right leg is completely numb. DS peed himself laughing when I tried to go to the bathroom because I couldn't make my foot lie flat and ended up sort of dragging it.

Seems to be getting a bit better (numbness anyway) but still all tingly and very painful. Wandering if I've trapped a nerve?

Gracie123 · 19/06/2010 18:41

Oooooh! Typed all of that left handed and it went quite well!!

GlastonburyGoddess · 19/06/2010 21:56

Glad to hear most people had nice weather today, not been too bad here either.

Cant believe the traffic problems are starting already and gate opening for the festival is still another 4 days away. need to get my weekly shop done first thing wednesday morning otherwise I would be able to drive anywhere after about midday, it gets horrendous.

have had a highly stressful day today, Sis+BIL didnt arrive till 2pm and then we went off to an event which wasnt reallty anything much, felt like a bit of a idiot and dp was in a foul mood. come 6pm you could of cut the air with a knife.
I had some period pains this afternoon, just above my pubic area, quite painful but they tapered off at about 8pm so think it was probably the stress of today
my rosemary and clary sage oils arrived today though so Ill start using them next week.

tommorrow we are heading off to the beach for a few hours so the kids can fly their kites then sis+bil are coming back to ours for tea and beers. just hoping they wont stay any longer than 10.30pm as dp has work and Ive gotta get up to take boys to nursery and school.

dp hopefully finishing the glossing in our bedroom tommorrow, then next weekend we will finally get the cot down and set it up ready. hospital bag now packed so feel a bit more ready than a week ago!

To whoever it was saying about a numb leg-yep Ive had this too, had it almost constantly from 27weeks till about 32, then not had it since and had it briefly again today! Its called Meralgia paresthetica, and its due to compression of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve that supplies sensation to the skin surface of the upper leg. The babys position is the cause as well as the extra weight being carried around!

kittykat77 · 19/06/2010 22:05

Evening everyone.

I am most definately not patient - 36 weeks tomorrow and am feeling like this baby could pop out at any time! My bump is so huge that I really dont think it can possibly stay put for another 4 weeks...but guess time will tell!

MLIC I have been having problems with the leaking milk situation for a few weeks now - have already gone through an entire box of breast pads and had to go and buy a new box today - and the baby hasn't even arrived yet! I have to agree they are a pain - and I'm sure they are visible through some of my tops - which is always a good look (not!).

Emster know what you mean about the 'bowling ball' feeling. I am really struggling to walk or even move at the moment, still its hopefully not too much longer!

Wonderstuff · 19/06/2010 22:51

Hi all - just catching up. No more work for me until Feb - well none I'll get paid for Got some lovely flowers and someone got me a fab set of clothes for lo. LO is moving all over the place today, really squirming about. Had two baths today, back is not good - finding washing up a nightmare - sholders are strained reaching the sink, bump pushes me so far away - going to have to find away around it - dh is doing so much already. Can not wait for this baby to arrive - I'm so uncomfy and so tired - dh is working really hard and is shattered too. Anyway am off to bed - suppose I should let dh have a lie in tomorrow..

Think i can just about get my head together to repost lmao.

gracie that sounds like what dp goes through with his sciatica, but noticed glaston knows what it is lol

mlic the leaking breasts are a pain in the ass, i'm not bfing either and know that after lo is here they will be aching and i'l be soaking the place. Try cocodamol rather than paracetamol as they seem better for spd, totally sympathise.

memphis hope you manage to get a good sleep, my dp would be the same bout me sleeping on the couch but since its bout comfort i'm sure he'l be fine.

dh i got my p&b too cant believe it'l be the last one i'll buy before lo arrives. Sounds like your lo is making his way out eh

glaston try to relax hun, how longs your sis staying for? You must be shattered, your sis hasnt half picked an awkward time to visit with it being so close to due date. Have you decided what to tell her bout visit after birth?

kitty if i was being left to term i dont think she would stay in either lol.

Has anyone had the stretching pain as if your skin could rip apart on your tummy? Its bloody agony x

WickedWitchSouthWest · 20/06/2010 00:16

Evening all! This might be a bit long coz I started typing it at 10 this morning! Still, the fireplace is out (and freecycled already!) and 2 walls painted. What took an age was taking all the electrical stuff out and packing it (humax, freesat, wii, xbox etc etc). Just written the ad for ebay to get the sofabed sold so will upload that tomorrow morning. Can't believe how much we have got done!

jojo we got our family cat from Cats Protection, they were wonderful with him coz he's a bit "special" lol and we've had him 19 years now

Re the baby monito we bought a second hand Phillip digital DECT monitor off ebay for dd. It's brilliant. We've got alot of wireless stuff in the house and have never had any interference from it.

dh ah there's always one wh can't stand the sight of a nearly 39 wks pregnant woman bobbling around, Ijust happened to be in earshot but coz I had momentum (lol) I decided not to dignify her idiocy with a comment.

memphis oh you are so organised with new arrival cards! Don't think we even did that with dd...perhaps I should this time around.

gracie poor you Try and take it easy.

I'm trying to get my feet up but we have ridiculously started ripping the front room apart obviously husband is now nesting! New sofas are due in about 3 weeks but maybe less so need to sell our old one, and have just put the fireplace on freecycle.

I have felt rubbish today, headachy and a bit sick. Not good as need to go to Ikea tomorrow and I'd rather do that feeling well or I tend to let dh have his own way!

Oh and yes my buggy is forward or rear facing. It was the one thing I insisted on this time. Hated the pile of shit we had with dd - she grew out of the carrycot at 5 weeks and had to go in the pushchair bit facing away from me Depressing.

Right, off to bed. Does anyone else dread going into labour in the night? I go to bed every night thinking please let me sleep all night! My dd started at 2am so I don't know why it bothers me so much!

Jojobil · 20/06/2010 05:02

I've been up for an hour and did some invoices Cause I can not sleep. My belly hurts and my back is very painful. At least just 9 days left! I sympathise with you who have carp tunnel - I had it with DD and it's horrid!
I have issues walking now so much pressure on the pelvic floor. Not sure how I am going to cope this week with the school run, making dinners etc...
Took puss to the vet to check her out and she has a galloping heart? Anyone heard about this. I am supposed to bring her for a scan on Wednesday which will cost around £ 100 Vet said she might need medication or even be put down if it is serious. It's odd that this comes out as I decided to re-home her...

On another note DD made a lovely card for daddy and I got him a t-shirt I hope you all have a lovely day!
