Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nymphadora · 17/06/2010 16:59

I was told no piriton but have a nasel spray but I hate it .luckily I've not had as much hayfever this year.

My knickers are much more comfy ta! Usually have shorts so they were a bad height for my bump. I have cheapy ones from asda which fit nicely underneath

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 20:20

Dexter, lavender oil for what? Relaxing when?

Has just got her copy of hypnobirthing! Suppose I best get Reading/listening.

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 21:45

I haven't started, and I've had mine for weeks!

elsa your job sounds very intriguing

abfab I am so shocked about the cats thing, thats dreadful. If you're mainly wanting to do the nct classes for the social side, remember they do gatherings for new mums too. I can't make the dates for the nct one's round here (and also my friend warned me that at her class the tutor was advising some very bizarre things, so not all the nct tutors are sensible from what I understand). I'm just planning to do the coffee morning type thigns afterwards, although I can see it would be nice to know some local people who are pregnant at the same time as me.

I'm booked on the nhs classes, I was only too late to get on the breastfeeding class. I'm not sure how useful they'll be though as I've been a little pregnancy/ birth geek and read about 4 books already! (while I was bedridden with hyperemesis mainly). I've moved on to books about 'the first year' now (can you tell why I work in a library...) But I don't want the midwife telling me off any more times, and I think it could be useful for DH to come along.

I am shocked though xavielli that the nhs were going to charge you £60 to attend. They're totally free where I am.

got my next midwife appointment tomorrow actually, I should be getting nervous about the bloods being taken, but loads of in-laws are coming to stay / round for dinner on saturday, so I am waaaay more nervous about that which is distracting me at least

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 23:21

Thanks, tiredfeet. Me too!
I wanted a bit of the social side, and a bit of structured tutoring with DH and me together in what to expect. I guess I can get that all from books though, can't I? Any you can recommend from your extensive reading list please?!

Hope you have a good M/W appointment.

I know, I will miss the social side, it would be nice to know more pregnant people locally (I have a couple of pregnant friends back up north). I really liked Christine Hill's book on pregnancy here as she's gives a lot of information to help you make up your own mind about things which are often expressed too emotively in books (in my opinion) (e.g. home birth vs hospital) and also the queen charlotte's hospital guide here as good on the basics and interesting. I liked the mumsnet guide too for lots of different viewpoints. I would like one with more detail on active births/ hypnobirthing though, that will be my next project but I wanted to get to grips with the basics first!

BionicEar · 17/06/2010 23:53

Sorry I can't help but snigger at image of cat having hissy fit if not allowed in room! Hope I'm not gonna get slapped legs for sniggering?!

Seriously do think it bad abfab that NCT aren't being more accommodating, or rather the mad cat NCT lady. Maybe secretly the cat leads the class when its at her house?!!

Knickerswise - still able to wear mine although have noticed my fancy pants are too tight so have to stick with the boring ones now!

Saw GP today and got some med to put on my face but it only time limited and to be put on affected area. She also advised me to continue with E45 cream.

What else? Oh DH managed to break light fuse whislt taking lampshade off earlier, but we got fix pronto by mate who live across road who a dab hand at DIY so it wasn't too terriable.

Spent much of arrvo chilling in the garden soaking up the sunshine - it was bliss! Then this eve have been sorting out stuff for our car boot sale and pricing it up. Hopefully we'll get decent weather and lots of buyers. Money going towards redecorating our bedroom as we've finally got round to agreeing on wallpaper and type of wardrobes.

Anyway best take to my bed it's very late and have busy day ahead tomorrow. Hope you all have a good day. Oooh Floozietoozie - hope scan goes well for you!

tiredfeet · 17/06/2010 23:56

right I really do need to go to bed, DH isn't feeling well and I've been trying to leave it as long as possible before I disturb him, but I'm too tired now...

floozietoozie hadn't spotted your scan is tomorrow, hope it goes well!

have lovely weekends everyone

BionicEar · 18/06/2010 00:14

Oooh has bit of drama silly DH left back door open and I was thinking "I'm sure I can feel a draft" went to investiagate and door was wide open, and spotted one of our 2 indoors cats outdoors cue panic as to whereabouts of other cat.

He came running back after a couple of mins calling his name with big bushy tail! Am surprised he decided to go out and explore as usually he has major wobbly about going anywhere near the door to the garden!

DH is now doing battle with 2 daddy longlegs that enter kitchen whilst we were searching for the cats. Told him he can't come out til they gone cos DD will have major hissy fir if they are there in morn!

Hermya321 · 18/06/2010 01:25

Mamjo, Nymph I think theres some kind of conspiracy thing going on with these Docs and hayfever. I got told by the chemist yesterday that basically no evidence to suggest it can cause harm to baby in pregnancy (he did have a huge wopping great big text book that he showed me) but that they prefer to tell you not to take it 'just in case'. I was going to go to the Docs to see about mine as it's starting to really affect me at the moment. I'll let you know what they say and then pass on all the goss.

Bionic I had a bit of a mini heart attack when I saw the little intro to your post on the active convo's list. I thought you were going to say you had found your back door wide open and stuff gone. I think I like mamjo have been watching too much Crime watch road show and police interceptors this week.

nymphadora · 18/06/2010 08:46

hermya supposedly something to do with meds not being tested on pg women & some drs are more cautious than others over risking it.

floozie good luck with the scan

spoke to work yesterday about going back. Meeting my supervisor in 2 weeks about what I will/won't be doing. Also going to hand my forms & stuff in then. Booked a few odd days of leave in July/August and need to check what happens regarding flexi as I didn't use it cos i went off sick.

DillyDora · 18/06/2010 08:52

Morning all, just briefly no, no smacked legs BionicEar for laughing at the lady's grumpy cat (maybe the cat leads the class?!) Hope you got the daddy long legs situation sorted, our cat used to eat them (and then pull a 'eeeeeugh!' face) most convenient.

Dexter32 · 18/06/2010 09:55

I feel like a weeble (as in 'weebles wobble but they don't fall down), I've got dreadful indigestion and I could sleep on a clothes line. Need some cheery posts to get me through the day today please!

shieldbug · 18/06/2010 10:38

dexter I remember weebles! They were fab. One of my earliest memories is playing with weebles with my cousin. I reckon it dates us though! Maybe there's a friday 5 lurking there on the theme of childhood toys, but I'll leave that to those who are good at it.
Are you working today or do you get the chance of a lie down?

Dexter32 · 18/06/2010 12:03

Definitely dates a few of us - I wonder if there's lots of head scratching wondering what weebles are!

Am working today but have just decided to take the afternoon off. I've got to do Father's Day stuff and the supermarket run today. I won't have time at the weekend because I'm at Relay for Life (in aid of Cancer Research UK). Bit like Race for Life but over a 24 hour period and in teams rather than individuals.

Have a great weekend shieldbug (and everyone else).

tiredfeet · 18/06/2010 12:24

what is a weeble?!

I am feeling a lot happier today, seen the midwife and heard the hearbeat also I had been really getting down and embarrassed because I'd been getting lots of 'it must be twins' comments about my bump, but the midwife says I am looking really healthy and not at all big for this stage, and even complimented my strong stomach muscles, so I feel a bit of confidence has come back. DH had been telling me it was just people trying to be funny / make conversation, but it had really started getting me down. I love being pregnant and looking pregnant, but didn't like the suggestion that I was somehow abnormally huge for dates! Plus the best bit is that I thought they would be taking bloods this time, but its not until the next appointment, I had been worrying about the bloods bit all week

sam12 · 18/06/2010 12:34

tired don#t worry about people's comments- I agree with your DH I think a lot of the time they don't wanna ignore you're pregnant and so it is just something to comment on. Although it can be annoying- when else in your life would people comment on your size as much? and the way you walk! I have had to bite my tongue a few times.

Loved weebles- whe my nephew was little I found mine out for him to play with. I wonder if they are still at my parents house

nymphadora · 18/06/2010 12:42

Dd1 had weebles, they made a come back briefly

shieldbug · 18/06/2010 12:47

tiredfeet webles were oval-shaped plastic toys, often made to look like a person. they were weighted in the bottom so if you pushed them over, they sprang up again. Simple, but fun. Very popular in the 70s!
www.doyouremember.co.uk/memory.php?memID=2149
I remember we also had a large version like a toy soldier that had bell iside so made a noise when you knocked it over as well.

DillyDora · 18/06/2010 12:49

tired it's true, they're just trying to join in really and it means they make idiot comments. Could give 'em a smacked leg I suppose, (I've been doing that a lot on the other October thread to all sorts of people...). Sigh, you are too young to know what a weeble is...truly I am old, here's a link www.weebles-wobble.com/ though actually they look a little sinister...

RooBear · 18/06/2010 13:45

hey everyone, need a strong cuppa, work are 're-organising' the structure of posts, but have reassured me that when I return from mat leave I will have a desk and computer, lovely, thanks for that

tiredfeet · 18/06/2010 15:15

yey for the smacked leg , thanks dilly. I know you're right, people just want to say something, but it is tough, the constant comments really got to me until midwife today made me feel a lot better. I think its hard to because I work partly dealing with the public, and they all feel they have to say something, so it gets a bit relentless on the days I'm in work!

weebles sound great! I am definitely getting a bit weeble-like.

tiredfeet · 18/06/2010 15:17

ps roobear thats tough about the 're-organising', especially when you are pregnant and dealing with all that entails too. I hope you got your strong cuppa.

Tyson86 · 18/06/2010 16:15

Hi everyone, my little boy slept in his big boy bed for the first night last night. Just got to potty train him before Sophie arrives He has alot to do considering he has just turned 2.

Very angry at the PIL's today as they babysat yesterday and bought my 2 yr old son home on a 30 minute drive and not in a car seat with just a normal seatbelt on him in the middle at the back! DH is sorting it, im going to stop them babysitting which they nag to do if they cause a problem about it.
