I like the quote- NCT are cat wierdos!! I MUST get round to booking something!!

AbFabT- I agree that is unreasonable and I cannot believe someone would think their cat should be accommodated like that! I'm withyou- I'm allergic to cats too, but apparently we tend to be immuno suppressed in pregnancy, so maybe you wouldn't have that much of a reaction- for example I got stung by a nettle the other day, but it didn't raise a bump or itch...But hey, who wants to sit through antenatal classes with a heightened sense of smell in a house that is bound to smell if thats what she's like. I bet her cat sleeps on her.....

Wouldn't it be great to be a spy?! No I'm not, but parts of the job can be exciting, but at the moment its desk work. I was away for 6 months last year, so hopefully it won't come around again for a while.

nymphadora · 17/06/2010 09:34

help me here

Thanks!

Hermya321 · 17/06/2010 09:51

Ooooooo Elsa you won't throw me off of the scent that easily, I'm a persistant girl you know. I bet the powers that be have given you desk work whilst you're pregnant haven't they. I bet as soon as you're back to work, they'll have you being all spy like in no time.

RooBear · 17/06/2010 10:24

morning all, stop talking too much! great news tyson and piesey you have the exact same mat package as me elsa! feel really lucky. Thats not good abfab I'd be really annoyed. I'll have a look nymph and get back to you!

nymphadora · 17/06/2010 10:37

In a rush Roo?

BTW is anyone else struggling with knickers that don't quite fit yet?

RooBear · 17/06/2010 10:42

I'm at work trying to read everyones news in my coffee break

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 10:48

Thanks, Hermya and floozie - I know! Just a chore having to find myself an alternative. The organiser said there was a note on the original email about the cats - I didn't see it. Even if there was, there are thousands of people with cat allergies - I can't be the first! Anyway, I am looking at alternatives, there seem to be quite a few round here so I just have to hope there is space.
I asked about sticking with the main venue but the organiser said no - I assume it's because they have to pay for the main venue, but the women-only sessions she can fit into her house. Grr.

Good luck with your scan, floozie. Tomorrow! Woo!

I have the dentist tomorrow, which is in my hometown where my mum still lives so I am then going to spend the day with her, go to her gym and have a swim, and then she is treating me to an antenatal massage! Yeah, Baby!

Oops, posted before I saw the last few messages.
So thank you also Xav and Elsa and Roo. LOL @ NCT are cat weirdos! Elsa, would be nice - I actually am only allergic to some cats, and it's not that bad, but I did encounter a cat two weeks ago and it made my eyes itch worse than ever, and I just don't think I should subject myself to that when I'll be stuck there for a few hours AND have paid for the privilege!
Have now emailed three alternatives, so hoping at least one of them has space for me!

nymph, good luck with the shopping. ASOS delivery quickly - I've bought a couple of things from them. (Maternity Section for nymph)
Mamas and Papas have a sale on right now! I have bought my hospital pyjamas! Will say though, I think their sizes are funny, and ideally you should try their things on.
And New Look have a sale on all dresses.

Morning all, fancy Elsa being a spy, you get all sorts on Mumsnet, don't you? (Can't possibly believe your denial Elsa after all, that's what you would say isn't it?)

Tyson Excellent news about the birth! Hurray!!

ABfab NCT are being totally unreasonable, 'the cat gets upset?' oookay...and how are her parenting skills? Are the children allowed to rule the roost too? I'm a cat lover (and allergic to them ) but this is just daft. Also, where I live NCT costs about £100000000 so frankly you should be able to stipulate....

Lovely news about the scan Piesy

Nymph I'm not sure about my knickers... I keep asking DH if they still look ok...

And in other news, went shopping with a friend last night and bought myself a black, long sleeved, floor length cotton jersey (t-shirt stuff) dress with a scoop neck which makes me look like a pregnant Morticia - I flipping love it! It hugs every curve and my bump looks brilliant in it. Have a party to go to Sat night and realised I had nothing to wear, it's only thin material so won't be too hot. I don't think I would have dared to wear it before I got pregnant but it's so comfy and lovely and there's something really fab about going 'o look, I've got a socking great tummy and hips' for the first time in my life...happy days!!

long post...sozzer
xx

lilmissmummy · 17/06/2010 11:43

LOVE the sound of your dress Dilly sounds fab!! Can you slap the NCT's legs please, it makes me cry laughing when you do that

My knickers keep rolling down and I cant see them unless I take them off! In fact this morning I got dressed and then go downstairs before I realised that I had forgotten to put any knickers on

NCT - well dh really wants to do the course but I cant justify it at £300! especially as this is my 3rd child so I am quite aware of what to do in labour. Sooo I am leaving it for him to organise! They are being totally unreasonable about the cat though! I am asthmatic and very alergic to cats and I would be very poorly in that situation! I would demand a refund, stick to your guns AbFab lol at nct=cat weirdos!

agggghhhhhh swollen feet, where did that one come from??????

DillyDora · 17/06/2010 11:47

Oooh yes lilmiss I can't believe I forgot BIG smacked legs for the NCT!!!

Elsa123 · 17/06/2010 11:47

nymph- although not maternity, try monsoon, they have loads of lightweight stuff thats floaty and suitable for muffin top fat girls and ipso factor pregnant ladies!

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 11:55

Dilly, the dress sounds fab! Have a great party!

And yes, oh, I am so glad you all agree NCT are being nuts about the cats (and that I am not the only one allergic to cats!)! They offered me my money back, I just don't want to be stuck without a class. I know Xav said she managed without a class her first time, but I also partly want to do it to meet other parents in our area. And yes, for the money we're paying, you'd think they could keep the cat away for a few hours! I think I can hire a doula for that money!

lilmissmummy · 17/06/2010 12:29

lol at slapped legs

I have a lovely monsoon dress that I never wore when I was "normal" (?) but now I am pregnant it is really flattering - so definitely recommend too!

AbFab does your local NHS do an antenatal course?

DillyDora · 17/06/2010 12:50

Groan - have such horrid hayfever...is anyone taking Loratidine (the non-drowsy hayfever one). The pharmacist said I shouldn't, and should talk to my gp.... but looking it up I can't find anything to suggest it's dangerous. Any thoughts?

shieldbug · 17/06/2010 13:00

dilly I'm a hayfever sufferer too (I get it very badly). This year hasn't been too bad yet, but when I do need medication, my thoughts were that tablets on their own really aren't that effective. Instead, a nasal spray may be the best option. I know they contain steroids, but they just reach the external layer of the nasal lining and the dose should be sufficiently small to present little risk. Having said that, I would want to consult my gp first. I did run a question past the gp when I was just pg and she suggested zirtec? tablets(sorry can't quite remember the name -pregnabrain). Unfortunately this isn't usually much cop for me, but might be worth a try for you.
I have been liberally smearing the inside of my nose with vaseline, which helps a little, but only up to a point.
Hope some of this is useful

DillyDora · 17/06/2010 13:04

Cheers Shieldbug, I'm just being a bit lazy really - it's funny having to scoot off to the GP for such minor things. I'll make an appt for Monday.

Still slightly fretful at the thought of lilmiss trundling about commando and not knowing!!!

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 13:52

lilmiss, I guess they do. Already told the M/W I was sorted though. Just waiting to hear back from the people I emailed - one also does antenatal Yoga, so it might be nice to keep it in one place. If not, I am sure I'll manage if I have to go without.

So far my pants are staying on (I have gone up a size though), but I am starting to find it a bit of an effort to get my socks on!

nymphadora · 17/06/2010 14:12

Been on a quick trip round non mat shops & new looks mat range but not much seemed to jump out at me and then most was wrote off by having thin straps( on chunky bras now ) got some cheap low cut knickers cos it seems stupid to buy them online!!!

Glad you've got some options with the antenatal abfab I couldn't have dealt with the cats either. Apparantly cats love pg women maybe hers gets over excited at a room full

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 14:23

Over-excited cats!!! Not a nice prospect for me!
Well, I've emailed a few alternatives, but still don't know if they have room for us. One has replied saying she does one on one sessions, no classes coming up. I'm not so interested in one on one sessions though - it is as much the social aspect of the class that I was wanting, as well as the information. I'll just read read read if need be. I am sure things will work out.

Enjoy your new knickers, nymph!

RooBear · 17/06/2010 14:27

cats do love a pg woman! ours won't leave my bump alone, loves to snuggle in, think its the warmth

Dexter32 · 17/06/2010 14:31

Agree with Xavielli about maternity classes. Have only been to 2 in my life and both were absolutely dreadful. Your body does know what to do and if you go with what it tells you is right (with the help of the professional people) you can't go far wrong. I had twin boys 6 years ago (6.5 lb each) and managed with a bit of gas and air and went home the next day. Gosh, that sounds like boasting and I'm not really (although I was very proud of myself). I went into labour expecting a c-section, epidural etc. etc. etc. and just went with the flow. Labour is so different for each person, it's only a guide to what's going to happen (and the dolly stuck in a plastic pelvis is enough to make anyone feel faint).

AbFabT · 17/06/2010 14:41

Hm, Dexter, maybe I'll just not bother. I've bought a hypnobirthing book, haven't started it (and the CD) yet though, also plan to do various other bits of reading (note to self: get off MN!!!). I think part of me liked the idea of doing this with DH, going to classes like you see on TV and him rubbing my belly and telling me to breathe!

Oh what to do!

OP posts:
Dexter32 · 17/06/2010 14:46

Recommend lavender oil (unless you hate the smell). I found it incredibly relaxing.

Gertie doing somersaults so obviously knows I'm talking about her! You'll be fine, whatever you decide to do.

mamjo · 17/06/2010 16:03

My GP, my MW and the nurse have all told me that I cant take anything for my hayfever!! no tablets, no sprays, no drops... but I know other people have been told its OK to take piriton.. I think my doc is just a sadist who like to watch me suffer!! I am however drinking nettle tea when things get bad and that takes the edge off. I must admit that I haven't been as bad this year as normal (I usually look like I have done 10 rounds with Tyson by now) it must be something to do with the pregnancy.

I have taken to wearing the worlds biggest pants/shorts that stretch right over my belly from Tesco. something just feels really secure.....and I just hate when the other type roll down.
