Piesey - ta for tip regarding cream will ask Dr on Thurs about it. Still have red blotches on my face, but at least the blister effect seems to be settling a little, so peep aren't looking at me like I've got some weird infection!

Got my scan tomorrow am very excited but nervous at the same time. Suspect we will give in and see if we can find out what sex the baby is. But could be like its big sister and refuse to show all!

Pram - we're using the same we had for DD which was a MaClaren XP - could lie baby flat in it. Fitted nicely into our teeny car that we had at the time. Only downside was that you couldn't face baby towards you. Didn't bother with travel system as no of peeps we know who brought one only to switch to a pram later because they found too bulky and took up lots of room - we decided it wasn't worth wasting the cash on that and went for a pram where you could lie seat flat.

Room-wise we have painted room a light green color and will add a jungle theme border to go around the room, once we have painted the skirting.

Today we have started stripping the walls in our bedroom as have decided we want to re-decorate before baby arrives. Some good friends came over to help out, and made me clear off for a rest 2 hours in as I was flagging and then refused to let me join them again, so I made tea for everyone instead!

nymphadora · 14/06/2010 07:26

Morning everyone!

Good luck with th scanbionic

can't believe everyone is buying prams,I really need to make more effort!!!

Supposed to go to a Stork sale yesterday but slept in too late

sending dh to work with instructions to get paternity policy,I have seen the county one but am not sure if teachers are different. He is also under instruction to speak to governors & LEA about being unavailable in that time as that's the law & at the moment he gets emails & calls regularly over the weekend & holidays. Currently he is only one on call for fire/ break in stuff too.

mamjo · 14/06/2010 08:15

Morning ladies!!!

Well done hermya on buying the pram! Very brave. I also made our first purchase this weekend, a baby bjorn baby carrier to give to dh on fathers day. Even before we got pregnant he has talked about carrying his baby in one.

I have also sent dh off to sort out his paternity allowances. He hasn't told anyone at work yet and they are going to need a plan fir while he is away because he planning to take 2 weeks annual leave on top of his paternity leave.

Good luck with scan bionic

oh well time for work. Have a good day.

BackAgain · 14/06/2010 08:28

Morning all - just caught up with the weekend's activities - hope you all had fun. We had lots of friends staying over for a BBQ and the football of course which was great and not as much hard work as I had imagined.

Good luck to everyone who has scans/tests this week and hope those with aches and pains are feeling better.

mamjo and ivy - impressed with my willpower? DH and I still haven't decided if we are going to take a look yet, I am tempted to have a surprise

Bionic I too have had really bad skin this pregnancy, it's very dry and blotchy and so have been moisturising, no make-up and staying out of the sun. I had a fair bit of chloasma last time round and the worst patches are in the same place so I wonder if it is linked.

tiredfeed ever since DD I have been an avid pram watched especially in shopping centres and did once stop someone to ask the make of their pushchair!

Very exciting for those that are buying prams - this pregnancy is starting to feel very real for me too and I really need to get organised and work out what we need to buy. Have meeting this week to agree with work when I am leaving, still a bit undecided as to whether end of July or end of August. Think I am just feeling a bit guilty as I know how much work needs to be done, but there is work to be done at home too (decorating) and would be nice to spend more time with DD and family over the summer.

Think Peppa Pig is about to finish so off to get DD ddressed - we are having a very lazy day today

Elsa123 · 14/06/2010 09:02

Gosh, well done with the pram buying Hermya. I was thinking with your SPD- you mentioned that you're not really showing and I was wondering if the SPD pain could be beecause your baby is still hanging around inside your pelvic space and that could be causing more pain. when it moves up, it might be more relieving- just a thought.

I think I'm going to go for a lie flat pushchair thats v.lightweight as in the early days, I've realised theres no point buying a proper pram as all the walking in my area involves lots of kissing gates and you cannot get a pushcahir/pram through them, so I will invest in a sling/carier thing as come what may, the dogs will need to be walked twice a day and I need minimal faffing about.

With car seats, I don't plan on getting one that fits to a pushchair as I am inept when it comes to getting things like that in and out of the car (and I would trap a finger) and I know there's the whole sleeping baby thing, but I'd rather spend to save by getting one of the car seats from Halfords thats suitable from new born to 4 years old, then at that point get one from age 4-11, the kinds that effectively expand and breakdown as the child gets older.

sam12 · 14/06/2010 09:35

Morning everyone.
I bought my first baby thing this weekend- one of those dream pod thingies- so it must finally be sinking in! Had fun the rest of the wkend pulling down walls in the new house- not sure if that would be recommended while pg but figured my body will let me know if I am doing too much and want to help as much as I can whilst I am feeling good and not huge.

I am liking those mothercare spin prams but not really done enough research to know if they are what I need.

nymph the teachers paternity is the same as everyone else- I have read the whole teachers one begining to end twice as it wasn't sinking in!!

Mayb TMI here but I had noticed some patches on the bed sheets which puzzled me and now after reading some comments am thinking maybe it is my boobs leaking!

Hope that everyone is good x

Katy86 · 14/06/2010 10:18

hello everyone. Please forgive me but i have not caught up on all the posts ive not been on here for 2 weeks and there is already a new group with 12 pages lol

Hope you are all well???

update from me: Was on holiday in Greece for a week came back and had my anomoly scan on 11th june all is well with bubba who is still a boy had kinda convinced myself he would be a girl next time they checked lol.
But i have a low lying placent only 2cm from the birth canal which is the closest youre allowed to be without having a planned c section apparently so im incredibly nervous and dont really understand it all sonographer seemed pretty relaxed about it and said that its not allowed to be any closer that what it is but should be fine.

DDs birthday was on saturday and i find it hard to believe i am mother to a 4 year old

sorry for mamouth post

xx

nymphadora · 14/06/2010 10:35

sam our county one is more generous than stat (1 week full pay, 1 week stat pay) but not sure if the CC includes teachers in their policy. If dh was getting full pay , being on call wouldnt bother us as much but if he is on stat pay I have informed him he is not to answer calls/emails etc and to make everyone aware of that! He doesnt really get holidays as it is , even when we go away people have phoned him (In New York- can you switch the alarms off )

oops

Vikks · 14/06/2010 10:53

Just got back from the scan...all is perfect with Little H and he's still a boy! He was holding his foot and sucking his thumb, very cute. I could feel and see him kick me at the same time which was weird. They gave us 8 new photos too!
Can't wait for our 3D scan now.

Good luck everyone else who's having scans this week. x

Hermya321 · 14/06/2010 11:05

Elsa You might be right, I'll see how it goes though. Hows yours at the moment?

Vikks Awww bless, that sounds so sweet. When are you getting your 3D scan?

Katy I've got a low lying placenta as well, haven't they given you another scan at 32 weeks? They told me me that in most cases it moves up with the uterus and not to worry about it too much until then.

Elsa123 · 14/06/2010 12:26

I don't have SPD (fingers crossed I won't get it...) just a dodgy lower back from an old injury and tummy muscles that already feel compromised! I bought a rather nice stick for walking to help sciatica (its like a staff, not an old lady walking stick...).

Ref the low lying placenta- mines not, but the scan guy at the FMC told me that if it was close they would recommend another scan to check progress, so Katy I agree with Hermya!

Hermya321 · 14/06/2010 12:44

Oooopps sorry Elsa I'm claiming pregnancy brain on this one . But kudos on the cool staff.

shieldbug · 14/06/2010 13:56

congrats to those who have just had scans. Xav hooray to being half-way through as well.

I'm impressed by anyone who has managed to buy anything yet. I've knitted a cardie (and started on a second) but haven't bought a thing otherwise. It's hard to find the time, but also I'm worried about forking out for something then finding it on special offer later. Must be my northern genes- can't abide the thought of paying more for something than I have to!

shieldbug · 14/06/2010 13:57

Meant to say good luck for your scan if you haven't had it yet bionic.

sam12 · 14/06/2010 14:27

nymph I see what you mean and hope it does cover teachers for you. I totally agree with him not answering calls and emails, it should be time to spend with you and baby- no interuptions!

shield my northen genes meant that my first purchase was half price at Mamas and Papas or I wouldn't have bought it yet

lilmissmummy · 14/06/2010 15:27

Hermya I love Russell he makes me cry laughing - so looking forward to the new series and luckily it is apparently starting in the Autumn! Hopefully SPD will have gone by then. I will add him to my banned list

Xav well done to getting to half way!

bionic hope your scan has gone well, looking forward to hearing all about it

shield I havent bought anything either yet but I have written the list so poor dh is going to have a shock in a couple of weeks

katy my friend has a low lying placenta and the doctor/ hospital do not seem to be worried about it at all and says that it usually moves!

vikks glad you are still having a boy! I would like to have a 3D scan, I think I might book one! When is yours? Is anyone else having one?

sam12 What is a dream pod? I am not sure if pulling down walls counts as "nesting" ?!?! lol

Hi Balletmoo and welcome, hope all goes well with the consultant!

I'm a bit sad today as my Great Aunt died yesterday so feeling a bit shell shocked! I am also a bit concerned as I do not have any midwife appointments between 16 weeks and 24 weeks! Is anyone else like that?

RooBear · 14/06/2010 15:44

welcome balletmoo sorry about your news lilmiss my next midwife appt is at 25wks so your not alone! we had a lovely gift this weekend of dh's uncle and aunt, a old fashioned basket filled with goodies! they said it was our starter pack, things like a blnket, bibs, teddy, cuddle robe etc... so lovely could have cried, love our families!

sam12 · 14/06/2010 15:51

lilmiss A dreampod is one of those sleeping bag things that you can have instead of sheets- every shop seems to call them something different. I know it is nesting to the extreme I think Sorry to hear about your Great Aunt. My midwife appointments are pretty much the same- saw her at 17 weeks and next one is at 25 weeks.

DillyDora · 14/06/2010 15:57

Hey lilmiss sorry about your great aunt Yes, next mw appt is 25 weeks, first one since 16 weeks.

nymphadora · 14/06/2010 16:09

No point going off my appts they are all to pot! I'm at the consultant in the morning. Taking myself so am going early to deal with all the stairs.

Just got 2lb gooseberries & am working my way through them and am very happy cos they taste right!

shieldbug · 14/06/2010 16:14

lilmiss sorry to hear about your Great Aunt. Don't worry about the mw appts- I think 20 week ones mostly happen if they are keeping an eye on something. I had a 20 week consultant appt because of my fibroids, so no appt is a good thing!

Roo what a fantastic gift. How lovely. SOunds like you are getting a good collection of stuff now.

piesey · 14/06/2010 16:54

lilmissmummy Sorry to hear your news about your Great Aunt. I'm the same with midwife appointments too - I think my next one is actually at 25 weeks.

I have my scan on Wednesday! I'll also be 21 weeks then too so I'm actually over halfway which feels amazing,. Baby has been kicking lots more the past few days - normally when I'm trying to talk to someone in work and can't stop laughing as it tickles!

I'm very jealous of all of you buying prams and things! I haven't even looked properly yet. We are really lucky and are getting most things from my family - like a moses basket, cot, mountains of clothes etc so the pram is really the onloy thing we need to buy. I think we will wait until we move house (fingers crossed) otherwise it'll be another thing to pack and take with us.

Roo that's such a nice present to get - what a lovely thought from your DH's aunt and uncle.

Hi to Balletmoo too!

AbFabT · 14/06/2010 17:31

lilmiss, condolences about your great aunt. I have also had sad news today - a childhood friend just died - same age as me (well, a month shy of his 36th birthday). 35 is no age to die. He'd had heart problems since he was a child, I don't know the details yet though, but think it was probably heart-related. It does remind you to appreciate the people around you. Hope your family are ok.
