New Threaad Wagoners!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cantmummyhaveabreak · 17/06/2010 20:22

Star mentioned the techno. I'm also a buggy addict and one of the bits to hold my hood open on the hood of my little pram is broken, DH says as the other side still works I don't need a new one! However I do agree as I've finally found the right pushchair for me in that pram. Gonna see if I can sorce a new hood for it tho as feel a scruff with a broken hood!

Diege · 17/06/2010 21:10

Thanks for grassing up STAR, CANT I think I'll be happy with it as I want something that is lightweight yet will lie flat for lunchtime naps - plus with the sunshield should be great for hols. Which pram is it that you love CANT?

Diege · 17/06/2010 21:10

Has it got the word 'Herbie' in it or am I thinking of something/someone else?

Starshinetiger · 17/06/2010 21:28

Ooh, grassed up indeed . It's the McLaren Techno XT we had (reminds me, if I can find time, we can shop for ours now, as insurance has come through). Not sure if all McLaren's do it. I feel a trip to Mothercare World coming on to try them all out

How exciting that you might come to the meet up Can't! I'm aiming to be at the park by 12 midday, as my DC need feeding by then (nursery schedule and all that!) Will put more details about transportation on Wagon FB.

Sorry, very intermittent posting as usual. Work busy, life busy and am currently avoiding ironing . Don't know how you fit it all in ladies!

Forgotten most of what I've read.

Nat - sorry no advice re. potty training, but most of what I have read seems to be along the lines of "give them opportunity and let them do it in their own time" - which is not helpful when you want to get on with it, is it?!

Can't, fingers crossed for DH's outcome of interview. Not looked at house, but looked at last one and that was gorgeous!

Gruff - have a great weekend camping - sounds great fun!

Tink - are you considering meet-up too?

Right, on with ironing.

maxxymoosmummy · 18/06/2010 08:34

DIEGE think the loved pram is the chicco liteway i also have this for DS and they are fab, the reason i chose this for M is because i loved it sooo much when CANT was using hers altho there is a new style / colour coming out shortly which i really want.

sorry for quick post will be back later.

NatalieJane · 18/06/2010 09:21

Good morning

Diege later train is fine, probably fits in better with DH and his sister too, he is going to go and pick her up while I'm at Blackpool, she is staying with the kids while we're out that night. I didn't realise that CM can be so accomadating, will deffo look into a bit further. The plans for the business are coming together nicely, looks like there is going to be a lot of changes around here before the end of the year, don't know if I am over the moon or actually a bit mad, am quite nervous, don't know how the kids are going to take it on board etc. And DH. He is doing and saying all the right things, and I think he genuinely believes them at the moment, but I think when it comes to the crunch and I'm not always there for the kids, and he has to take on some of the smaller bits of childcare that doesn't even cross his mind at the moment (p.e. kit ready? Dinner money sorted? Party invites replied to? Have you brushed your teeth etc. etc. etc.) Think he might finally realise that the small things add up to the same or more than the big things... sorry, off on a tangent there! Am really hoping though that if it eventually pays off and I'm bringing in a decent profit that he will be able to relax a bit more, he's 40 in August, working 12-15 hour days 6 days a week, on call most of the rest of the time, he can't keep it up for much longer.

Can't, hope the waiting for news of the interview isn't dragging too slowly. Kitten sounds cute

Tink/Star/everyone! Yes tried pants/pull ups/bare bum, I am really trying not to pile on the pressure, but I get a bit frustrated with him, which is really bad because I think he isn't actually understanding it. He had problems with his speech which is now tonnes better but still not what it should be, he is behind in several ways, he can't dress himself at all, can't put coat and shoes on, can't pull up a pair of trousers etc. he is only just really getting to grips with colours and numbers, he knows some letters but can't draw anything except a very dodgy face. I don't know enough about this side of things but is all that the fine motor skills thingys? I think I need to get him to the HV, but am reluctant to because most of the time they are such a let down, she rang about 6 months ago to say she would ring again and come out to see us, never heard anything else. I don't know if he is actually capable of toilet training yet? But, he is 3 and a half, I can't just let him get on with it for much longer. Ooops, another tangent, sorry guys

Rugby, if you're lurking, hope everything goes smoothly today, am keeping my fingers very tightly crossed for you

Right, DS1 off school, teacher training day or whatever they call them now, was planning the elusive trip to Southport that never happened due to the chickchickspots, but then realised I've got Ocado booked between 11 and 12, usually they turn up at least an hour early so hoping we can still go later, though first, I must go get a shower! Have great big fluffy dressing gown which I love to bits, but jeez it's hot!!

allshoppedout · 18/06/2010 09:25

nat - yes i would go to hv for a chat see hwta they think? will stop you worrying
especially if he is delayed in other areas!!

hi diege - buugy addict

i have just bought on amazon for touchy feely board books for dd2, a watch for me and jls cd for me

off to tesco for food shop with dd2 so should be interesting

Starshinetiger · 18/06/2010 14:40

Diege - I have a question for you about bike seats. Do I recall you saying your DH has a trailer on the bike? Am thinking of getting one, so I can transport both DC by bike (we have a bike seat for each (from Freecycle), but that means we both need to be on bikes to transport them. Do you have any tips on what to look for. Have seen some on Ebay that double as a buggy (for pretty reasonable price) and that sounds like an excellent idea, but don't know if there are any pitfalls I should look out for?

Now I see how much they are and they double as pushchairs, am wishing we'd got one sooner!

Starshinetiger · 18/06/2010 18:14

Aaargh! Diege - if you haven't already bought your Maclaren Techno XT, I need to let you know that they've changed the spec since we bought ours in 2007. There is now a big see-through bit at the back of the hood, which obviously affects how dark it will get inside the buggy for naps. The Techno XLR is how the XT used to be for the hood (still a window, but much smaller). Not sure which we're going to get now. Found them for pretty much the same price as each other online with all necessary attachments included. Would hate to recommend something that isn't suitable.

Diege · 18/06/2010 18:43

ooh thanks for the tip-off STAR .I did actually order yesterday, and it's arriving tomorrow, but will have a proper look and see if it's suitable. No problem sending it back if not .
Re: trailers, I'll ask dh as he really is the expert. For day to day travel dh tends to use a bike seat and tag-along Bike that dd1 or dd2 ride on. Trailor will come into its own when both dds are riding independently so that dd3 and ds can ride in it. I'll see if he has any tips/ones to avoid!
Back later!

GiraffeYoga · 18/06/2010 18:58

Hi everyone

Sorry been quiet, work is manic.

LOL about the pushchair addicts Good tips though.

I wish I could get excited about the Maclarens. Not sure why I dont like them, probably because they are too big for my car

SOrry for not doing full update, about to go for a shower. Im feeling a bit better than I was. Wasnt tonsilitis, or it was attempted but my body fought back. Still got sorethroat though.

Just got DD home from nursery and bathed her. She has some red spotty kind of things . 2 on her back, 2 on face. Please can you all keep your fingers crossed they are minor baby spots and not > the pox..... we are going on holiday next thurs. Really dont want to cancel

Talking of fingers crossed. Rugby- hope the house went through ok.

Back laters

OP posts:
GiraffeYoga · 18/06/2010 19:02

Diege- meant to say, you've done really well to keep DS at home on thursdays as long as you have. A friend tried that and gave up when her DC was 8 months.

Hope you can get the place at nursery ok

Shower beckons.....

OP posts:
bumpsnowjustplump · 18/06/2010 21:37

hi all things busy here so just popping on to keep my place. Giraffe if it is the pox you will know by tomorrow.. As they spread quiet quickly. And also if it is she will be over the worst by next thursday, they will may have scabbed over by then, no need to cancel at all.

stock up on piriton liquid, poxicin and calpol if she has lots of spots tomorrow also bicarb of soda and oats for the bath.. Calamine lotion is good as well for in between the poxicin applications

We had it bad here but the worst was over in a week for both of them..

if the spots are blistered and the shape of a rice crispy tomorrow or if she has more spots then you know she has them... cut her nails really short...

poor baby.. Good luck

Rugbylovingmum · 18/06/2010 21:49

Hi all,

what a stressful day! The house thing has been a nightmare, I had to visit the dentist and it's the end of my ML. We planned to exchange contracts today and the vendors tried to delay things AGAIN - we had said we would withdraw our offer if it didn't go ahead this time and felt we had to stand by that or they would carry on messing us around. Thankfully the vendors caved at the last minute (well 25 min before the solicitors closed) and so hopefully we are moving on the 17th July .

Our other good news is that DD slept until 7am this morning which is a big lie in for her . The bad news is she slept late because she has a cold and is now running with snot . Yuck!

Diege - hope you like the XT. How young have your LOs been when you put them on the bike? I found a seat that says you can use it from 9 months and 9kg so DD should just about be ready for it but I'm not sure she is sitting steadily enough yet.

Gyo - glad you are beating the tonsilitis . Fingers crossed DD doesn't get the pox .

Nat - no idea about potty training but if you are worried you should speak to a hv and see if they can put your mind at ease. Probably not if they are like our hv's but worth a try . Hope the wine is going down well. Quick question - my DB used to sing a little song he made up to my DN when she was a baby. My DSIL would like to display the song in her room somehow. She thought about a mural incorporating it but wants something that can be moved if she chnages room - any ideas?

Tink - good shopping again!

Hi Bump and any other lurkers.

Rugbylovingmum · 19/06/2010 08:15

Morning all,

poor DD is totally stuffed up. She really struggled to sleep last night - she finally fell asleep on her tummy and her sheets are just covered in huge pools of snot and yuck! We had raised the end of the cot so at least it all seemed to drain away from her. Poor girl, colds are just miserable. We have tried Karvol but that didn't seem to do anything. Last night we put some olbas oil on her sleeping bag and a little vicks rub on her chest and neck but that didn't help much either. Has anyone found anything that helps them sleep with a cold? I wish you could teach them to blow their nose, at least they could breath for a little while.

maxxymoosmummy · 19/06/2010 08:27

morning all,
looking like a lovely day here, may take a trip to the beach with M, might see if CANT is up for doing something. hate staying in on days like this. need to get fathers day things too but really stuck for ideas.

RUGBY sorry to hear DD has a really bad cold, poor girl. but sorry i have no other advice on ho to help other than what you have tried, maybe if you carry on with it for the next night or two it may start to help, just a thought. hope you get a better night soon.
hope the venders dont mess you arund again, i have my fingers crossed for you

sorry ive forgotten everythin else, but hope everyone is ok. and having good weekends.

NatalieJane · 19/06/2010 08:51

Morning

Tink, thanks, am going to ring them on Monday, if everything else is just down to lazy-itous, I think he still needs some help with his speach at least, he is deffo talking more and in longer sentences, but most people can't understand what he's saying. Hope you survived Tesco

Rugby, congrats again!! Really pleased they've sorted themselves out Re. the cold, I think MMM is right, not much else to do, just calpol, vicks, keep a bowl of water somewhere near the cot - out of reach though! (Doesn't make a massive difference but helps a little), and you could try one of those things that I have forgotten the name of it's like a ball with a pointy bit that sucks the snot (lovely!!) out... name has completely escaped me! Re. the rhyme, the obvious answer is a framed picture, easy to move etc. if she is any good with a needle she could make like a cross stitch or embroider a blanket or whatever. If it didn't have to be something visual, there are loads of things like teddies, musical boxes/merry-go-rounds etc. that will let you record your own thing on to it. TBH I like the mural idea and am the sort of person that would spend a few weeks to do it properly and then 6 months later move the rooms around and have to do it again ! DS1's second bedroom, was our rented house before we moved up here and bought, we lived there 9 months, I finished his bedroom in the eighth month! It was ace though, even if I do say so myself!

GYo, fingers crossed if it is CP she will be well over the worst by then anyway.

Hello everyone else

Crappy night, took the boys to get their haircut, once again they couldn't do it, that is 3 places we've tried now, why won't anyone cut their hair? Got back, didn't even have a glass of wine till gone 8, we'd sky+'ed the football to watch when the kids had gone to bed, so kids went up, can't believe I wasted 2 hours watching that game, then only 2 glasses of wine later went to bed, couldn't get to sleep, 1.20AM my friend rang (problems with her husband, looks like he has been cheating on her ) I don't mind sort off(!), given the circs, but by the time I got off the phone and got to sleep it was gone 3, and then up at 6.30. And, we've got MIL and her husband coming for dinner tonight, they've not seen the house yet so of course I'm going to be running round all day making sure it's perfect, we've still got to somehow get their hair cut (we walk in, and the hairdressers faces just drop!), and did I mention MIL is coming?? Hmmmmm 3 glasses of wine on a Friday night, that has to be against the law or something?

Diege · 19/06/2010 09:46

Morning! My god NAT,get that wine opne now is my advice That sounds a day and a half you have ahead of you!
MMM hope you enjoy the beach,or whatever you decide to do
GYO,good luck on the pox front - let's hope it was just a couple of heat lumps!
RUGBY,wow congrats on exchanging!!You should be pretty safe now, unless they fancy a court case and paying everyone's court costs to pull out . Have you been celebrating? On bike seat front, we had a special baby one from Holland for when they were tiny(from 4 months) but the standard uk ones we have said approx 6 months (from when they were able to sit up without slumping over to one side). Sounds like you'll be fine with dd.

allshoppedout · 19/06/2010 09:52

morning

dd1 has 6 spots on shoulders!! she has had cp before
she is very moody and tired today
and dd2 has the snots and moody

dh off to photograph is first wedding my mum over and my eye appmnt @ 2:30pm then getting new glasses abit over excited have had my current glasses for 4 years i wear them all the time so will be great to have new ones dont think the style of mine is very in fashipon now.

NatalieJane · 19/06/2010 10:14

Diege, don't tempt me!! Have just been up to clear the floor enough to hoover the kids rooms, have found DS2 (you know the one that can't draw? ) has done a sodding masterpiece on DS3's carpet and very heavily lined huge expensive (though they are really ugly, at least the pen brightens them up!! ) curtains Also has been rumaging through the boxes (haven't unpacked DS1's and 3's stuff except essentials, waiting till we decorate their rooms) and he's broken the lamp I bought that matches all of DS3's nursery stuff, so what's that? £500 for new carpet, £200 for new curtains, and £40 for a lamp... Am hoping DH can get it off the carpet with the carpet shampooerhooverethingymebob and my steam gun thingymebob might just get it off the curtains.

Am deffo on count down for wine time, 3 glasses? 3 boxes bottles methinks! Going to need it to stand this evenings delights...

Diege · 19/06/2010 10:40

Lol NAT - I was going to say, just think of this evening to get you through, but then realised MIL is there then....
Good luck with haircuts too - same here, no-one does kids' hair anymore, too little money, too much stress...One solution we've found is that some playbarns offer the service, but then that's quite a high cost, financially and in terms of your sanity!
TINKS, exciting about new glasses, let us know which style you pick
Dh taking dds swimming this afternoon(just found out age wise that he can take all 3 - hurray!, so I might take ds down the road to playbarn - a different kettle of fish when it's just me and him!
Oh and STAR, have asked dh and he says there's nothing about trailers that springs to mind, but that to go on the CTC website as that has some very good tips about bikes and LOs.
GIRAFFE,reassuring to hear it's not just me struggling with wfh and looking after a rampaging baby!

NatalieJane · 19/06/2010 10:54

Well, she "won't be staying late because I have a mystery tour tomorrow" shame it's not a murder mystery that goes wrong.... No, as far as MIL's go she isn't vicious or anything, just a bit selfish and unreliable sometimes.

And oh good god no at haircuts at playbarns, DS2 realllllllly hates having his hair cut, can only see that going 10 fold if he actually had to come off the slides to sit and have his hair cut. Have told him we will have to put his hair in a pony tail and he might turn into a little girl if he won't have it cut Not sure whether it's made any difference but he didn't go into melt down yesterday as we walked into the barbers, though, after three attempts he may well have forgotten that a haircut doesn't mean walking into a building and walking back out again!

essenceofSES · 19/06/2010 21:10

Sorry for being AWOL for a few days - just v busy!

New job is going well but so much to do! I have my first ever night away from O on Monday night as I have the annual stores conference to go to for Mon & Tues. Gala dinner Monday night which is normally a big piss up party. I may just want to have a night of uninterrupted blissful sleep though!

Rugby - what a week you've had! Glad it seems just about certain that the house is yours Re C's cold, the only other thing I sometimes use is an electric vaporiser on all night. V similar to using Olbas Oil or bowl of steaming water but effects may last slightly longer. It is v frustrating that we can't just find that miracle cure for them.
Hope dentist wasn't too bad and is Monday your first day back at work? Hope all goes ok.

Nat - hope this evening isn't too tiresome. Hope MIL duly impressed with house!
Your poor friend if her DH is cheating. I'm sure you were glad you were able to help but really didn't help for you having a decent amunt of sleep! Hope you're not falling asleep over dinner with MIL!

Diege - hope you and DS enjoyed Playbarn and your McLaren arrived ok.

Tink - did you decide what DD's spots were? Insect bites maybe?!
Is your DH starting a sideline of wedding photography?

Giraffe - really hope SG hasn't succumbed to the pox and that she's well for your holiday.

MMM - hope you managed to get to the beach and enjoyed it!

Hello Gruff, Bumps, Cant, Moosy and anyone else I've missed!

allshoppedout · 19/06/2010 21:29

ses - glad new job going well - my mum over today she thinks insect bites
yes he is hoping to photograph weddings on the side

Starshinetiger · 20/06/2010 09:31

Mornin' all. Hope good Fathers' Day with you all. DH had lie in this morning, but has now taken DC to feed ducks (his choice), while I get chance for luxury shower and get myself dressed. Lunch all prepared (Cousin and his girlfriend coming over), so just need a quick tidy round and all sorted - after yesterday, need things to run smoothly!

Rugby - yay for exchanging on house. What a pain your sellers are Sorry for DD's cold. The only other thing you can try ((but is pretty yucky - look away now if you're of delicate constitution), is to suck the snot out of her nose yourself Hope she's feeling better today.

Tink - yay to new glasses, very nice. I shall need to get new ones myself now. Went to water festival in town yesterday and took DC on a canal boat for a little trip - looking out window with DD standing on my lap. I one fell swoop, she grabbed my glasses off my face and threw them in the canal where they promptly sank! This time last year, I wouldn't have minded so much, as I'd had my glasses then for 6 years. This pair I've had for less than a year [grr]. Can't really do much except not let her near my glasses now (easier said than done). Back to wearing old ones until I get some replacements sorted!

Nat - sorry for artwork from DS2. If you find something that gets it off, please share - a few weeks ago, DD took the pen that comes with one of DS' books and drew a big squiggle on his carpet. Vanish didn't touch it (although the pen just wipes off the book it came with!). At least the Thomas track detracts from the mark on the carpet when it's up

So, trying to decide on buggy - probably going for Maclaren Techno XLR, as it has closed in hood instead of silly new window they've put on XT, but it doesn't come in plain - which colour would you go for out of the following two:

choc/pink

or

charcoal/purple
