Hello! Just a quickie as at work and students lurking for their marks..
Great that you cleared the air with dh SES, and yay! for the ttc-time scale. That's not bad at all! Thanks for the words of wisdom re: old bird's ttc-ing I have also seen today that 40 plus means 5% chance of conception for each cycle. That actually reassures me and takes the pressure off! Had a bit of spotting so sure af round the corner (due tomorrow/Thurs) but feel fine with that. I'm lucky in that this really would be an 'iceing on the cake' baby which does help when ttc-ing I think!
TINKS, any chance you can make the meet-up on the 18th? Would be good to meet you!
GIRAFFE, evening out sounds fab. Where are your vouchers for?
Really looking forward to the 18th. Have bought tickets now, so all ready!

Rugbylovingmum · 15/06/2010 14:14

Afternoon all,

Happy birthday Giraffe, J, Tink and anyone else I've missed.

just dropped DD at nursery for another settling session so I have a few mins to mn. When I left her one of the boys was crying and looked awful and they told me he has roseola - welcome to the germ-fest that is nursery! I almost took DD home but we are going to have to get used to leaving her (and I didn't want to look all PFB with her ). Hopefully she'll be fine but if not I guess it's better she is ill this week rather than next - my boss won't be impressed if I need time off my first week back.

We've had a busy weekend at a wedding in Edinburgh. My DB and SIL were also invited so we stayed there and my parents came over to babysit. I was so nervous as DD has never gone to bed without me feeding her but she had a great day, took a bottle from my mum and slept through! It's fantastic I know I can leave her and she'll take a bottle if she is hungry enough. I'm going to carry on feeding her morning and night for now but that bit of flexibility is great. She is taking small amounts of milk during the day from a cup which is also fab.

Diege - glad you are feeling better about ttcing, at the end of the day you can't pay too much attention to the stats. I'm sure you'll have no probs but I love the idea of an 'icing on the cake baby' .

Ses - great to hear that you and DH are talking more and hopefully it is getting through to him that he isn't the sole provider. I think you are right not to push just now but just be wary of the 'we'll try in 2-3 months' response - that is DPs standard answer when he doesn't want to do something but knows actually saying that would start a discussion . Fingers crossed you fall off the wagon soon!

Bump - hope you had a better day today!

Moosy - did you stick your stuff on Ebay.

Hi to everyone else, sorry I'm so crap at remembering what I've just read. Better go as I have a million jobs I want to try and get through before collecting DD. This house is a disorganised tip .

Rugbylovingmum · 15/06/2010 14:17

Oops - did I just make up Tinks bday, did I mean cant. Oh I'm rubbish, brain like a sieve. Anyway just popped back as I remembered I meant to say congrats to cant and R - really really glad the consultants appointment went well .

Rugbylovingmum · 15/06/2010 22:34

Oh dear, did I scare everyone off .

GiraffeYoga · 16/06/2010 07:34

Morning

HI Rugby- great news with DD taking the bottle. What's happened with the house?

Fingers crossed DD doesnt get that bug, but I'd recommend being prepared for sickness. It's quite likely she will come down with stuff in the first few weeks.

Im taking to the wagon sick corner today. Got hoooooooge tonsils and feeling a bit under the weather. Have come to work but might go home again laters.

GiraffeYoga · 16/06/2010 07:36

Hi
Sorry didnt mean to sound doom and gloom about sickness- I just wish I'd been more ready for it somehow.. though not sure how!

However you are going back at a much better time of year so hopefully all will be fine.

bumpsnowjustplump · 16/06/2010 08:08

Rugby cant belive they had a child with Roseola there, they should have been sent home. It is highly infectious and is part of the Herpes virus.... It can cause children to fit as well..... It is a respiritory infection and I think that the child should not be mixing with others if indeed this is what it had...

Your dd will indeed pick up all sorts of bugs it is par of the course, and in general this will build her immune system (this is from someone who's banking on owens immune system being top notch after all he has had in his short life ). But this is more serious than a tummy bug or cold.... I would be asking what their protocol is on illness like this..

Giraffe so sorry you are ill is there no way you can call in sick...

bumpsnowjustplump · 16/06/2010 08:13

Rugby i take it all back I have just found out this :

The viruses that cause roseola do not appear to be spread by kids while they are exhibiting symptoms of the illness. Instead, someone who has not yet developed symptoms often spreads the infection.

So dd will be quiet safe and there is no longer any risk...... phew......

Rugbylovingmum · 16/06/2010 09:06

Morning all

thanks Giraffe and Bump. The little boys rash and temp had just appeared that morning so the nursery staff were just giving him a cuddle while they waited for his mum to pick him up. I didn't really realise how bad it could be, I thought it was just one of those viruses that made them feel off colour for a couple of days . I felt a bit better reading your post Bump but if he was just starting to show symptoms he was possibly still infectious??? Maybe I should have taken her home but he was just about to leave so she wasn't in contact with him . Fingers crossed she'll be fine.

So many friends have warned me about the constant poorlies during the first few weeks/months at nursery and how difficult it is to manage that and work. I'd like to think I'm ready for it but I'm sure I'll struggle with either dropping her at nursery when she isn't 100% or letting work down .

Gyo - sorry you are feeling rotten . I had my tonsils out as a child but DB gets frequent bouts of tonsilitis and it's miserable. I'd go home and curl up in bed with a hot water bottle and a soothing hot drink.

I'm a bit scared to even post about the house until it's all official in case it falls through again but the plan is we will exchange on Friday and get the keys on July 16th. I am sooooooo excited, I just can't wait to move in . We need to start shopping once the exchange happens - we need new sofas and also drawers and wardrobe for DD. She has tonnes of clothes so we need a lot of storage. Are those kids wardrobes worth it (do they have lots of shelves) or is it better to just get an adult one?

allshoppedout · 16/06/2010 10:26

hi

diege - dd1 @ school fri

Diege · 16/06/2010 10:39

Morning! Dd3 trying out a morning at school today - am picking her up at 11.30, then dropping at nursery before trying to squeeze a few hours of work in.
GIRAFFE, sorry to hear about you feeling so rotten - sounds very painful, and def worth going home for. Hope you feel better soon x
RUGBY that's brilliant news about the house! It takes me back to when we were getting our dream house - v. smilar scenario and the feeling you get when you finally have the keys is amazing. Nearly worth going through all the anxiety! Also, a tip on the nursery front which you can feel free to totally ignore. Obviously with 4 I've been there lots of times with the work/sickness dilemma. The best thing I've found is to make sure dh and you split the childcare when they are sick,so that you take it in turns to stay off. I think if we didn't do this I'd have a/gone mad with resentment and b/ got the sack by now! Obviously different jobs lend themselves better to one of you staying at home more, but it does pay to be firm on what the arrangements are from the start I think. Oh and yes roseola very common, mine have all had it, and were very lucky from what BUMPS says in that they just had a bit of a temp and the sniffles- rash quite dramatic though! I do think they need to be in pretty close contact though to get it,and once rash out you're fine (at least that's what the nursery fact sheet says, lol)
Hi to everyone else - sorry TINKS brain not working, not sure what your ref to dd1 being at school on Friday meant?
Right, better get something done before getting dd3 - hope she's been ok!

NatalieJane · 16/06/2010 11:03

Good morning

Have been lurking but not had time to post, have more or less decided (if we can sort something out with childcare - have no idea what though yet) that I am going to try it alone and start my own business once I've done the diploma, if it doesn't work out than I've lost nothing (there isn't huge start up costs to consider etc.), and if it does then, well, it does! But have been trying to work out loads of options and get my head round rules and regs and tax and insurances and god knows what else. All very busy, but I think (biggggg think there!), it's doable

Can't remember much that I've read so will probably miss loads, but things I can remember...

Rugby, I have no advice on the sickness/nursery situation I'm afraid, though seems you've had lots of good input from others already, and wow about the house! At long last hey?! Re. wardrobes, I think it's just a preference thing, unless if you were looking at paying loadsamoney (so wanting it to last till she's off to uni), then I'd get an adult one for a girl, but if it's a wardrobe to last for 10 years or something then a childs one will be fine. The shelves, it just depends on which one you go for, some have shelves, others have drawers, others will have both or none.

GYo, sorry you're feeling poorly, you should deffo be at home in bed by the sounds of it.

Diege, you sound very busy today, hope DD3 enjoys herself, big step this school malarky isn't it?!

Ermmm, that's it all I can remember Have got so much going on in my head can't make head nor tail of much TBH!

In fact whilst I'm here, anyone any tips on toilet training? DS2, he is 3 and half now, not once has he had even a wee anywhere except in a nappy and on the floor(!), he is dry at night, still wears a nappy but nothing in it in the morning, I've tried bribing, rewards (stickers, chocs, anything!) even being a bit firm and it's got me no where. He is having none of it. Don't know what else to try? He knows his willy is for weeing out of, he'll show us any chance he get's, but he's pretending to do it, holding it and making a noise etc. Don't think it's helping him seeing DS3 in nappies still either. But, even though his speech has come on so far in the last few months, I'm not sure he actually understands if you need a wee, then you go to the toilet? Oh, that reminds me, have also tried different toilet seats, step or no step, potty, big bloody toilet looky-likey potty. He is supposed to be starting nursery in September, he can't go if he's not dry.

Rugbylovingmum · 16/06/2010 11:08

Cheers Diege,

I will be working very close to the nursery and it is easier for me to leave work on short notice so I will probably be the one to collect DD from nursery if she is ill but DP can work from home easily (and do very little work during day then make it up evening/next day) so he will def be doing his share of childcare when she is off. Luckily both our jobs are fairly flexible but that said we've never had to take too much advantage - it might be more difficult if she is ill quite often but we'll see.

Hope DD3 enjoys her morning!

Diege · 16/06/2010 12:47

That sounds a great set-up RUGBY re: you and dh's work. I think you're right though, if she does get a bout of illness where she's off very frequently at some point, even the most flexible bosses do get a little snotty! Oh and on wardrobe front I think I'd myself go for the adult ones, esp if you are deciding to have any more LOs and they share a room?
NAT, I think going it alone sounds something you would be perfectly suited to. Great to have something like that to look forward to after the course is finished I MUST check those train times too!!! If I get to Preston around 10ish does that sound ok? I think you need to head off pretty soon after lunch,is that right?

Diege · 16/06/2010 15:11

NAT, have just checked train times for the 26th (it is the 26th isn't it?) and I can get a train that gets into preston for either 9.51 or 10.38? Obviously assuming here that that's the sort of time you'd be heading off,so letme know if not and I'll have another look

cantmummyhaveabreak · 16/06/2010 16:00

Afternoon.

Diege & Nat- when you know what time you'll be in Blackpool just let me know and I'll meet you wherever is decided on. Hopefully MMM can make it too.

DH had his interview yesterday, seems it went well. Waiting to hear back sometime next week. And I've seen another perfect house for us! here for anyone who wants to be nosey!

Hello rugby, girraffe, tink, ses, bump, gruff and anyone else I've missed.

GruffaloSoldier · 16/06/2010 16:43

Looks great CANT - I cant believe how cheap it is!Down here you wouldn't be able to get a 2 bed flat for that that is why I am releuctant to sell up and go into rental!

Giraffe - sorry you are feeling unwell hope you feel better soon!

I am still not right but havent been back to drs yet. symptoms come and go. Im going to wait til AF and see what happens. If really not right then I will go back.

Diege glad DD3 enjoyed school session! aww at DS moving up to tweenies too!

Rugby - I found Ikea great for GC''s wardrobe. their 'make your own' type ones are great. we got GC an adult size one. you choose the doors, handles, the set up inside and the size. ours was about £100 and it looks lovely too. (has 3 huge metal basket type drawers at bottom, a shelf above that, hanging space, then a shelf at the top).

NJ - sounds good re setting up your own business.

we are preparing for a weekend of camping and DH's big race so all a bit chaotice but very exciting!

Argh GC awake - hello to anyone I missed!

NatalieJane · 16/06/2010 17:41

Diege, glad DD3 enjoyed her morning, always a weight off once they've enjoyed it once! Either of those times is fine with us, we'll be there for which ever you go for, and coming back, I need to be leaving 3 o'clock-ish, was thinking I'd get away with a touch later but thinking about sorting everyone's dinner and getting the kids ready for bed while trying to get ready myself... need as much time as possible!! So as long as that's OK with you then of course you're welcome to a lift back!

Re. me setting up as self employed, I am deffo going to give it a shot, if it doesn't work out then it's only time I'll have lost and I have tonnes of that so nothing to lose really! Only trouble I'm finding is childcare issues, it isn't like we'd need x number of hours a week, sometimes it might be very few, sometimes lots, can't see a childminder going for that, have been considering a nanny but again, they won't go for it. And also, have no idea where I can find out if we'd be entitled to any help with child care costs, and it is going to be tricky working out what money is coming in, DH's varies anyway and mine could be all or (very much) nothing for a while.

Thanks for trying to help with the toilet training as well, think a thread may well be the way to go.

Can't, it's great that he feels the interview went so well, long ol' time to wait till next week, but it will soon get here! House looks lovely!

Gruff, hope you're in for a very good weekend, if the weather stays like this you'll be laughing

cantmummyhaveabreak · 16/06/2010 20:08

Argh- gas meter went off this afternoon but wouldn't work so had to get an engineer out. Poor DC's had to have toasted barm's with beans on top for tea! Needed food shopping so had very little in to offer them! Luckily it's fixed now!

Got my kitten at the vets for his jab first thing tomorrow! Oh, he was my birthday present off DH! He's very cute and very good! Had him for 10 days now and we've only had 1 accident and that was on day 2 and my fault for shutting the door so he couldn't get to his tray. I called him mickey!

Diege · 17/06/2010 12:51

Hello! First chance to post as ds just gone up for nap. I have to say, trying to work from home and look after ds on the Thursday has been a failed experiment -not fair on him or work really,so will be adding a half day at nursery I think in a few weeks. Still,it was nice while is lasted, and I still have the Friday at home (till sept at least when I go full-time, but will try my best to keep him off on the Friday where possible).
NAT, if it's ok the slightly later train would be better for me (gets into Preston 10.38am)as it would give me a chance to get things sorted here first. I'll start a thread on wagon fb thread (are you on it?) so that we can exchange numbers/sort out arrangements with MMM and CANT. Also, on different subject, you'd be surprised how flexible childminders can be and it may well be the case that they can accomodate your needs.I think you need to have a minimum contract of hours that you have to pay whether you use them or not, but with ours we can top up if necessary. Ie, dh usually drops dds at school, but will ring first thing if he can't and she can usually accomodate.
GRUFF, enjoy your weekend camping - hard work, but fun I'm sure!
CANT, kitten sounds adorable. Would love one here but a bit worried if it went missing like our old cat did (poor dds have only just got over it). That's very good on the toilet training front!
Well af here today, so another 26 day cycle. Think I ovulated cd 14 though,so 12 day LP if that means anything to anyone, so just about ok. Have had delivery of some super duper supplements that I took after my mmc to 'rebalanace' hormones, so hopefully will help with ttc-ing.
Hope everyone's ok - what are you all doing ??

cantmummyhaveabreak · 17/06/2010 13:24

Not doing much here diege, but not managing much MN time. Kitten had his jab fine. We had to re-home our other cats after having DD2 but we'd missed having a pet. Luckily he's fit in fine and you'd never know he was here really.

Think I'm gonna have a nap before getting DS, the girls are napping, so should make the most of it. DD2 has a recent habit of waking at all hours for a winge or a feed if she can get it!

allshoppedout · 17/06/2010 17:28

morning

hi nat - sounds great setting up own buisness

re potty training

do you keep the potty downstairs nad keep asking if he needs a wee then putting him on it.
could u try him with pants or pullups around the house and see what happens. as it is warm could he go around with nothing on below.
you could try this for say a week and then see how he goes.
with dd1 had most probs with poos.
like u say with nursery coming up dont have long!!

hi diege - wasnt there a meet up tom or did i get confuzzudledlol

hi to everone else

warm and sunny here today still quite windy.

had a quiet day today
survived aerobics last nite was good

cantmummyhaveabreak · 17/06/2010 17:57

London meet up is 18th July (tink) not tomorrow. Have been looking at train fares myself, what station would I need? And what time you all meeting?

Diege · 17/06/2010 20:03

Hi TINKS, CANT! CANT, I don't know LOndon that well, but think Green Park is pretty accesible from Euston Square (think you need to change lines ?? but quite simple, from my vague memory of the tube map). The plans are on the wagon fb anyway!
TINKS, aerobics sounds good - you are disaplined
Well, I admit it My Name is Diege and I Am A Buggy Addict . Someone on here (GYO? GRUFF,or was it STAR???) mentioned something about the Maclaren Techno being v.good and having a sort of built-in sunshade...and the bar across the top if my Zapp is knackered...and you can guess the rest....Now I just have to justify to dh,as it's not the sort of purchase I can stash at the bottom of the wardrobe

Diege · 17/06/2010 20:04

disciplined sorry, couldn't leave that the way it was!
