Rugbylovingmum · 13/07/2010 16:30

Hi all,

guess what....

ONE WEEK TO GO [gri n]

This time next week we will be in our fab new house - hurray!!!

I'm sitting making lists of everything we need to do and everything we need to buy before the big move this weekend. I'm VERY excited we are going to be in our lovely new house soon but I'm getting a bit snowed under with organising and packing. We are moving from a partially furnished tiny rental place so we need sofas, a bed, wardrobes, drawers, curtains, washing machine, freezer, storage for all DDs toys/books/crap, hoover...... OMG the list just goes on and on. I guess we don't need everything straight away but I hate living out of boxes and it's easier to get the large items while we have the hire van. I foresee a HUGE shopping trip to IKEA and Curries over the weekend .

Any top tips for places to buy fairly decent but cheap sofas - online or in a store? We were thinking leather might be good so we can wipe off spillages but DP isn't convinced leather sofas are very comfortable. What do you ladies think?

Rugbylovingmum · 13/07/2010 16:43

Sorry, me me me post. I have a one track mind at the moment.

I meant to say that when we were in csl at the weekend DP fell in love with this in mushroom or sand. Not sure it's my favourite sofa ever but it was very very comfortable. What do you think (be honest) and is it just going to be a nightmare to keep clean?

sorky · 13/07/2010 16:52

excited for you RLM.
buy leather or removable covers is my advice.

The playroom has removable covers, all other sofas are leather in our house.

sorky · 13/07/2010 16:53

oh and if going removable, buy an extra set. They rarely wash and dry in the same day ime.

goodness, that sounds like I have a lot of sofas

tinktellyaddict · 13/07/2010 17:24

very exciting rugby

Starshinetiger · 13/07/2010 17:24

Very exciting for you Rugby - have not moved house since we had the DC and am in awe of those who move with DC in tow

Am with Sorky re. leather or removable covers. We have brown leather in the living room, which has proved most useful, since it has had drinks spilled on it, regularly gets sand spilled all over it out of DS' pockets if I forget to empty them out after nursery and of course inevitably had sick on it (when children are ill, they want to curl up on the sofa like we do and don't always let you know in time that they are going to be sick)! I find the leather sofas comfortable - helps that ours has recliners on either end of 3-seater. We have a beige fabric sofa with non-removable covers on it - it has pen scrawled all over and some stains from spillages - reminds me, I must get a throw to put over it! Didn't have the choice of leather as it is also our sofa bed for guests and we did get it in the sale. Would not have thought of extra covers if we needed them - sounds like an excellent plan Sorky.

bumpsnowjustplump · 13/07/2010 21:32

hello all only 5 more sleeps till i meet you all.... Sorky sorry i missed your birthday but remember you will never be older than me boo hoo I am so old....

Hi everyone else. We are teething her and it is nasty but apart from that all good.... Cant wait to meet everyones little ones on Saturday.. Not sure DP will make it now as he has had a better offer on Saturday night but not sure yet....

maxxymoosmummy · 13/07/2010 21:41

hi everyone, been keeping up and verything but not managed to post for some reason.
all axciting for you rugby. very good advice from sorky i agree. and maybe a darker colour would be best.

hope everyone is ok, and doing lots of nice things.

DS seems to have turned into the devil child, always screaming for / at things, and dont know why hes started. altho i have stopped him from having his dummy in the day he only has it at nights, so this may be the cause
any ideas?
hes also started smacking, when he wants something and cnt have it he will smack me, or the person not giving in.

tinktellyaddict · 14/07/2010 09:25

morning

hi ladies

we have a leather sofa to a dark grey would never go back so comfy and easy to clean
off to a soft play centre in a min
wet here!!

essenceofSES · 14/07/2010 09:56

Morning!

Can't believe this thread nearly dropped off my Threads I'm On!
We had a fantastic weekend in Bath - v luxurious and great to have a couple of evenings out with DH whilst Owen had a babysitter. We even managed a few drinks and a sneaky GOF

AF has arrived this morning so I guess that now means we're ttc I've worked out that if we're successful this month or next month, EDD would be only a few weeks either side of DS's birthday so I'm trying to tell myself that wouldn't be the end of the world if it took longer!

DH has started work on our kitchen extension now. He's got this week off work and has been demolishing our side porch, sorting out drainage and will be doing the foundations before the end of the week! He has a couple of guys he knows through work helping him out. I just need to come up with my ideal kitchen now I've got loads of ideas about insides of units like pull out racks but no idea about the outside appearance of the units! Any ideas or thoughts on companies to look at?!

Rugby - less than a week to go!!! We also have leather sofas - much easier to clean.

Tink - enjoy soft play

MMM - sorry for M's screaming. I don't have experience with dummy withdrawl as DS never had one but it could be that or more teeth? Does he have a temperature at all?

Bumps - how's your ankle? Hope your teething situation passes quickly.
Definitely still up for seeing you at Victoria on Sunday. I've not looked at trains yet but what time does your train get in?

Diege - glad you enjoyed riding. Don't worry too much about your LP - mine does tend to vary a bit between 10 and 14 days.

Gruff - hope your cold is improving

Hello everyone else - Giraffe, Sorky, Star, Nat, Moosy and anyone else I've missed

Diege · 14/07/2010 10:07

Hello! Just a very quick hello from me, as leaving now to get train to Cardiff for work, back Thurs night. Think I'm pretty much sorted on where to meet etc for Sunday - I will take down the moby nos as may well need them going on my past London meet form . I will also post mine Friday
Bye for now!
ps: I love Ikea for kitchens SES!

maxxymoosmummy · 14/07/2010 11:04

SES thanks, i didnt even think to check for teeth the past couple of days as there was no signs, turns out i checked just now and hes got another through so that may have been the cause, bless him. i feel awful now.

Rugbylovingmum · 14/07/2010 11:34

Hi all,

Ses - hurray for ttcing and for a fab weekend in Bath.

MMM - hope poor M is a bit happier now that tooth is through.

Tink - enjoy soft play.

Have fun in London and take some pics for the fb page please. Will be lovely to see how all the LOs are doing.

Well after much discussion we have decided to look for some leather sofas, I've just had too many parents recommend them to ignore the advice. I think we will have to spend some time next week trawling round a few showrooms trying out sofas - it's just impossible to tell how comfy they will be from pics online. Any recommendations for places to look, my impression is that csl/scs/dfs etc will all be as bad as each other for customer service and delivery but probably cheaper than somewhere independent. I've never been keen on Ikea sofas....

tinktellyaddict · 14/07/2010 16:20

ours is from dfs rugby got it when in sale they have lots in there

we have a 3 seater an autonatic recliner single chair and another single chair which is armless and a storage poor which is so good keep all dd1s toys in

ses - glad u had a good time
good luck trying exciting

soft play was good but fat too busy thre was a big group of older children that were causing chaos!!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 14/07/2010 17:07

Afternoon! I'm tired, been up in the night for the last week with dd2, with good cause tho as she's cut 4 teeth in the last week or so now! Including the first top molars!

Been on a school trip with ds today too which was lots of fun dispite rain most of the day.

Rugby- we'd wanted a leather sofa but while we were saving for one was offered an almost new set of sofa's from my aunty so we have them. They have a few pen stains on from the kids and I agree that leather is the way to go!

Moosy · 14/07/2010 18:00

Rugby, we've just bought this one and the 2 seater version too for the new house. It looks nicer in real life than the picture and it's soooooo comfy! Before that we had a big 3 seater one with washable covers which we bought long before the DDs came along. It's a really silly pale cream colour which looked lovely when it was clean but didn't stay that way for long!

Ses, we're doing our own kitchen in bits. We're getting the cupboard carcasses from a panel centre that DH has an account with (discounts, hoorah!) and they're going to make us some plain ash doors which we'll paint a nice heritage-type green/blue colour. DH is making the maple worktop and we're getting a Corian sink/worktop combo for the island It's going to be a long time before we have it all though, we'll get bits as we can afford them...

maxxymoosmummy · 15/07/2010 09:17

morning all. M was a nightmare all day yesterday, not listening when i was telling him no when hes normall fairly good, screaming at me to sit on my knee, everything. just hope we get to the bottom of it soon. hes having good nights sleep, so its not that hes tired either.
going to just have a day in today i think, do some drawing and painting, see how he is.

hope everyone has a great day.

tinktellyaddict · 15/07/2010 09:48

morning

wet here again!!!

survuved aerobics last nite

quiet day today food shop tonite

cantmummyhaveabreak · 15/07/2010 16:07

Wow, it's so quiet on here!

Have a bit of a headache, but think it's lingering from the school trip yesterday.

DD2 is saying and doing more by the day! If you sit her on her push along car she can whizz herself across the room within seconds now! She shouts 'go-go-go' too, also says 'juice' and 'car' aswell as the usual mama, dada, ta, bed, cat... I can't believe I got so worried about her lack of noise! She's always jabbering now!

GiraffeYoga · 15/07/2010 16:07

Hello

I've just come for a lurk and curl up on the wagon sofa.

Hello! No time to stop. Just checking in.

Giraffe - hope you're ok?

bumpsnowjustplump · 15/07/2010 21:58

Hello all, hope your all well.. just checking in..

Moosy · 15/07/2010 23:50

Only 3 more days to go!

In the last 3 days we've had: 1 tooth arrive and another cause trouble (at night of course), Fizzy's rolled from her front to back properly without any help for the first time (about time!), and today I spotted that dd1 has head life, ugh! She's dosed up with hedrin (and I've done dd2 too, just in case she has some lurking) and I combed out about 200 . dd1's got her preschool leavers' party tomorrow, I can't believe she's about to start school!

Rugby, I hope the packing's going well you must be so excited! We've just changed agents and have a viewing on Saturday so hopefully we won't be too far behind you with the removals wagon!

Oops, writing's gone off the bottom of the text box on my phone so I can't see what I'm writing anymore, must be bedtime!
