A few irish boys names: Liam, Conor, Sean, Daragh, Eoin, Colm, Rory, Fionn, Fiachra, Cian, Cormac....

I have put on about 16lbs so far at 25 weeks, i am quite small though and was only 108lbs before got pg... not sure weighing myself is a good idea anymore!!

bunnygirl80 · 02/08/2010 23:34

fenouille my mum generally says things way way before her brain is fully engaged so it's not hard for her to say the wrong thing!! I suppose that we hadn't actually told her that we like the name so she didn't know her comments might not go down too well.

I know what you mean about the emphasis all begin on pg and the birth. I'm really starting to worry about how we'll look after LO once he's here. Even the books we have suggest that we'll just know when he's hungry/tired etc. but I just don't see how that's ever going to happen!!

shoppingstar · 03/08/2010 07:46

Thanks for all the weight sharing - I feel much better.

Comtessa what a lovely result (detailed scan and baby daughter) after a horrible, stressful experience. Welcome to team pink!

fenouille I totally agree - worse, i have been lurking on the July antenatal thread out of fascination of their early labour chat and then reading their birth stories - but now it all seems to be sleep deprivation, cluster feeding and cracked nipples, I'm stepping away from the thread.

DH wants to wait until the baby is here to BEGIN discussing names (once he has met her) - so I think I had better work on my shortlist in case I'm in a post-labour daze and agree to something odd (he wanted to call our cat Apocalypse!)

comtessa · 03/08/2010 10:07

Thanks all for the lovely messages, so relieved that everything's fine with baby AND very happy to be able to finally use a personal pronoun for her!

Although a friend did suggest that I use "small", e.g. "Small is being quite wriggly today"; "When Small grows up I would like Small to be an astronaut"

Glad to hear everyone else is doing well too - good luck with the name hunting. TBH, it's an easy choice for DH and I, as there's only ONE female name we can agree on! Anya for first name (DH's surname is Scandinavian- but from a couple generations back!, which we thought would match surname nicely, while not being to unusual, and Grace for a middle name. And in four years, we have not been able to agree on any other name! So I jsut really hope she looks like an Anya!

comtessa · 03/08/2010 10:08

PS Oh good grief, spelling gone out the window - I blame pregnancy brain...

Vix7 · 03/08/2010 10:55

comtessa, Anya Grace is a lovely name!

we're still thinking through our names. sorta have girls names figured out but i was panicking that bub might turn out to be a boy and surprise all of us (despite the sonographer being 70% sure it's a girl)

and we have no boys names! well, none we can agree on. he wanted Conan (the barbarian), troy (the warrior), Leonidas (!!!!)

Fenouille · 03/08/2010 17:36

at Vix and Shoppingstar's husbands - sure you're not both married to the same guy?

comtessa, Anya is lovely as is Grace
Tiany your Irish selection for Sabie is cool too. How do you pronounce Daragh though?

Ah bunny, mine would never admit to that but I'm sure it's the case! We'd hoped that by ignoring all the name comments and replying with, "Hmm, we've not really thought about it," to every single suggestion they'd get the hint. Their visit was really tense anyway and I didn't want to add to it by telling then to stop with the names already, but I wish I had. Oh well, they'll have probably forgotten all about it by the birth!

BTW, does anybody else feel like the baby's got a sharp stick in there with 'em? I swear (s)he's using it like a cattle prod on my internal organs. I'd love to have a word with the bugger who let it have it

4madboys · 03/08/2010 18:06

hello ladies

just checking in now i have finally got back from holiday and found time to get on the pc!

have tried to read back, but as soon as i read anything i forget it again, pregnancy brain

pleased that those of you having extra scans found out that all is well and sorry to hear about your scare comtessa, that must have been awful for you, but lovely to see baby again on scan and to find out that you are having a girl

re having a girl, i am getting my head around the fact that this baby is a girl, i certainly feel different this pregnancy, a lot sicker and more tired, plus i am getting spots and i NEVER get spots ever. not impressed with that at all.

i have bought a few girly bits, some in the next sale and some in the blooming marvellous sale but most bits that i have got have still been unisex, just incase they got the sex wrong.

re names, we have a boys name we like but no girls names really, tho we like Meredith and Eliza, also possibly Genevieve and Cerys but will have to wait and see when baby arrives

i am now 24wks and my bump popped out whilst ion holiday, which ds3 thinks is fabulous and the boys are enjoying feeling the baby kick, it certainly seems to have got very wriggly in the past fortnight and all of a sudden this pregnancy seems very real, which has led me to panic slightly given that this is no 5 i really should know what i am doing but i still have the odd OMG what have i dont moment!

i see the midwife next week for my 25wk check and will get my HIP form!! plus i saw my CPN this week (check up due to pnp last time) and basically even tho i have felt slightly stressed the last few weeks he says i am fine, and essentially a normal mum dealing with 4 kids, being pregnant and the school summer holidays!) plus dp is away most of this week and then on the 15th aug he goes away for a week, so am on my own with the boys, which is fine, but exhausting at the best of times, let alone when pregnant.

hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer

hmmSleep · 03/08/2010 20:01

Those of you worried about not knowing what to do when baby arrives, don't worry, ha, easier said than done I know! Fact is you probably won't know what you're doing, I know I didn't, (still don't ), but you'll be fine!

I found when the baby cries, which it will do, alot, you learn to try feeding, winding, changing, cuddling, rocking, wrapping warmer etc. etc. one by one until you either get the right thing or the baby wears itself out and gives up! I remember spending many a frazzled moment just looking at mine thinking 'What?! What do you want?!!' So I don't go with the you'll instinctively know what they want, but more that through trial and error you'll learn to know what they want.

4madboys · 03/08/2010 21:03

ooh quick ask, braxton hicks, anyone else getting them or is it just me? they have only started in the past day or so, intersetingly after i have been busy and active, walking loads etc.

i know you are meant to get them earlier with subsequent pregnancies, but i dont remember getting them at this stage with my others? tho tbh all the pregnancies sort of mould into one in my head....

anyhow they dont hurt, but they are noticeable enough to make me pause ifykwim? sure its fine, but shall check with the midwife when i see her next week, but wondered if anyone else was getting the same?

and hmmsleep is right, you just kind of end up muddling along and learn what your baby likes/dislikes, and each one you have is different, as i have learnt! they all suprise you with something

tiany · 03/08/2010 21:47

Fenouille ...Daragh is pronounced as Dara,,, just the good old irish spelling

Comtessa delighted you had good news at your scan, you must have been in bits.... and a little girl, fantastic !!

No Braxton hicks here yet?,, i assume i will know when they happen?

comtessa · 04/08/2010 09:24

4madboys all your girl names sound lovely, but confess I had Meredith and Eliza on my pre-DH list, but he didn't like either, sigh. I knew a little girl called Meredith when I was helping out at a primary school, she had beautiful creamy skin, rosy cheeks and dark hair, and was very sweet too, so there's a good precedent for you! A book I had when I was little told the Snow White story in detail, and Snow White's name was Eliza in the book, I can still remember the beautiful drawings.

hmmsleep thanks for the tips! It is so reassuring to read that we can all just muddle along in our own way!

Wallace · 04/08/2010 13:33

I had a long weekend away and can't catch up!

Re Braxton Hicks - I've been having them since about 12 weeks. Occasionally they are really quite strong.

Had my heart scan today and the baby's heart looks perfect

llandb · 04/08/2010 18:29

Hello everyone! Haven't been here in ages - was expecting to have to go looking for the next thread

I hope everyone and their bump is well (I guess we're bump and not flump now)

All fine here - just had no chance to get online while PIL visited from overseas for all of June. They weren't staying with us - no room - but were camped here for waking hours. Good thing we had an extended dry/warm spell so everyone could go outside.

And just been blimmin' knackered in the month since then, (much harder going than first preg -only mitigating factor is less of the morning sickness and food aversion) so not managing a respectable showing on MN!

Oh and house-hunting - I 'believe' in house-hunting (or job-hunting) karma - i.e. you must do the hard graft of spending a lot of time looking at unsuitable prospects before the right one turns up.

Now have a snot-ridden toddler who is camped downstairs/sleeping on my lap. So I suspect than rather than tomorrow's fun outing (something about petting animals at a museum), I shall get to MN!

Oh and the bump is a boy and I am popping out in varicose veins and I hope when we move house the neighbours offer us their cats who spend more time with us than at home.

Hope to catch up on this thread v. soon and find out how you all are!

Sabie · 04/08/2010 20:46

tiany; thank you for all suggestions, I do like Rory especially but was thinking of spelling Ruairi (with slightly different pronunciation). Girls Irish names also welcome as we don't know what we're having!

Loving all the names discussion. Think it is really hard especially as it a 'negotiation' with the fellas.

HmmSleep; finding your trial and error confession extremely comforting; thank you! I CAN do T&E!

llandb; congrats on the boy!

Katey1010 · 04/08/2010 21:52

I haven't been on in ages. I don't know what has happened to my energy/brain. I also haven't managed to read back very much, although very reassured to read the weight discussion. Luckily DH is being very supportive but I feel VERY flumpy (15lbs extra at 24 weeks).

I've had one bout of Braxton-Hicks which was weird feeling. Also terrible leg cramps at night. Left me wondering how I was going to manage labour if I was in screaming agony after one minute of cramps!

We have girl's name (Emmeline) but no boy's name finalised. MIL suggested my ex-husband's name so that was nice...

bunnygirl80 · 04/08/2010 23:19

wallace glad your scan showed all is well

hmmsleep thanks for the reassurance. I think we'll just about manage a trial and error approach

llandb congrats on the boy

Can anybody feel where their baby is lying when they prod their bump. I was having a bit of a poke the other day when I felt a really hard lump at the top towards one side of it. After a brief moment of panic thinking "oh my god I've got a big hard lump in my abdomen " I realised it's probably LO's head

Ebb · 05/08/2010 11:37

Hi Everyone. Glad all the scans have gone well. I had a bit of a bleed at 25wks so ended up at the day assesment unit. Luckily they've found the cause and it's nothing to worry about so that's been reassuring.

I had a 4d scan done the week before last which, although the baby looks like she's made of playdough, was very sweet. You could see her opening her mouth and sticking her tongue out and trying to eat the umbilical cord. The scan lady was pretty sure she was a girl too so am tempted now to go and buy a few girly outfits. Scan lady also said baby was measuring 2wks ahead of dates so will need to mention that to my MW at my 28wk appointment next week.

I'm suffering with leg pain again. I had it with my DS and neither the physio, Doctor or MW could give a cause last time. It's just down my right thigh and it alternates between numb and burning. It hurts to touch. The other day it was itchy and I ended up gently scratching and now I have lots of little finger tip size bruises down my thigh. I'm wondering if the bruises are due to my slightly low platelet count.

Baby is currently practising for the 2016 Olympics in the gymnastics catergory. She's still breech and high in the womb ( apparently! ) but she spends a lot of time somersaulting and kicking. If I get to the end of this pregnancy without peeing myself when she kicks my bladder, it'll be a miracle!

Loving the names people are considering. I have one name I really like and a few others that I like. I'm finding naming a girl much easier. If it turns out to be another boy, I'm screwed!

cluelessnchaos · 05/08/2010 16:59

Glad to hear you were ok ebb, I was back at the hospital yesterday with my third bleed, very frustrating day hanging round all day. I was trying not to be precious but six hours to take my blood pressure and do some bloods was ridiculous, I had to go back in today to have another injection of anti d, and what upset me was knowing the consultant will probably not back me having a home birth now and I will have to birth there.

Smithy1979 · 06/08/2010 13:13

Hello November 2010 ladies, please can I join in? I've been reading MN (picking up the lingo!) for a month or so now and thought I'd join in. I've added myself to the stats thread (due 15th Nov). Nice to meet everyone and have a place to 'share' the ups and downs :)

So, I'm just wondering if anyone feels like they're in limbo at the moment? I feel pretty big, am mostly uncomfortable unless on the sofa, am walking at a snails pace and have already had a manageable 'Mum' hair cut, yet have 14 weeks left before the big day! That just seems sooo long. How can I get through the third tri if I'm feeling so impatient?

hmmSleep · 06/08/2010 18:21

Welcome Smithy, I have days where November seems ages away, and other days when I look at my calendar and see how little free time I actually have before then!

Went to the cinema for dh's birthday last night, the film was good (Inception) but not sure it was worth being so uncomfortable sitting in those awful cinema chairs for nearly 3 hours!

I also made the mistake of drinking coke, I don't normally drink fizzy drinks and was amazed how crazy the baby went, I couldn't get to sleep it was kicking so much. Guess as I don't drink tea or coffee either the caffeine/sugar hit came as a bit of a shock to the poor thing!

Have just bought ds a new bed, was not fun getting in the way helping get it up the stairs. Ds was still in the cot bed which we'll be needing back as a cot for the new baby.

Have a good weekend everybody!

MadAboutQuavers · 06/08/2010 20:15

Good evening ladies, just found this thread so thought I would say hello before adding my stats!

Am due 7th November, and have put 17lbs on during pg so far. Braxton Hicks since week 18, and as this is my first at the grand old age of 40, I spend most of my time being terrified, excited, knackered and impatient in strict rotation Grin

shoppingstar · 07/08/2010 08:56

Welcome Quavers and Smithy Smile

A very quick post from me this morning to share a discount code in case anyone has shopping to do.

I registered with Quidco then bought a buggy and various other things on Mothercare by clicking through from Quidco.

Entered the code VCW when checking out and . . . .

free delivery
20% off bill at Mothercare
7% cash back from Quidco

A very successful pre-breakdfast discovery!

Sabie · 08/08/2010 11:23

Welcome to Smithy and Quavers; it's all coming together here now; cot-bed, dresser and wardrobes set up. Have been given several very lovely items like baby bjorn carrier, a steriliser, baby bath. Need to look into baby monitors. No clothes or hospital bag stuff done yet but am altogether feeling much more serene and less overwhelmed.

Although I haven't bought anything from John Lewis, I have found their nursery department staff brilliant (Brent Cross); they know so much and will go through pros & cons of things with you. Good tip if a first time mum like me!

Mothercare are having a good sale at the moment; 20% of lots of ranges; many of which are still in the Autumn/Winter catalogue.

I've joined Tesco Parent & Baby club as that's where I shop mostly anyway. Has anyone joined any other schemes they would recommend?

Vix7 · 08/08/2010 18:39

Sabie, there's the Boots, Mothercare, Bounty baby clubs.

has anyone bought from or heard about baby-pages.co.uk?
the bee+ stroller is only £419 there (inc canopy) when it's £459 everywhere else! sounds like a deal to me but i'm being cautious cos i've heard cases where the company doesn't exist and just take your ££ and run!
