FannyPriceless · 22/05/2010 13:05

Oh dear, just had some sad news. We have had a call to say that my sister in law has lost her baby at 14 weeks. I really want to send her a card or something, but fear it might be a bit insensitive coming from me right now. Any tactful suggestions?

skihorse · 22/05/2010 13:08

fanny I would send it anyway - you're not pregnant to rub her nose in it and I think a "lack" of acknowledgment would feel worse from her pov and she might start thinking along the lines of "well it's OK for her, she doesn't care, she's nearly got hers". I would definitely make contact. No matter what you say wrong it has to be better than saying nothing.

reggie I'm so glad you're feeling more positive today - lean on Aerie - she obviously knows what she's talking about.

SilverSky · 22/05/2010 14:43

Thanks box glad you approve!!!

I have planted nowt. Only thing likely to grow in our garden is mould on the dog doo. Need to have a clearing up sesh.

Lush day but too hot. Got washing on the line, some in the machine and need to tidy the pile in the bedroom. Rest of house is a whole.

reg send the card anyway. Better to send than not.

Husband and I went out for dinner to very swanky restaurant and we had an amazing meal but I was almost in tears watching him scoff scallops then rum jelly, then the most amazing cheese board I have ever seen. I was nearly choking on my own tears. I WANT EFFING BLUE CHEESE & EFFING GOATS CHEESE WASHED DOWN WITH SMOOTH RED WINE BY THE GALLON!

Pls somebody save me.

SilverSky · 22/05/2010 14:48

Oh arse, spotted grammar error! House is a HOLE not whole.

rollerbaby · 22/05/2010 17:00

Silver I will refrain from kicking you in the arse, only because I have spent a lot of today clearing up our own hole and wondering WTF I am doing when it is like Ibiza today.

Fanny I reckon a card or a note (perhaps better) would be very appreciated. I wouldn't necessarily expect to hear back from her immediately, but I'm sure she will be appreciative of the thought.

Have bought meat a plenty for a BBQ with my parents this evening. I even unselfishly bought 4 bottles of wine for the purpose. Bastards.

organiccarrotseedsareplanted · 22/05/2010 17:28

fanny great news about the court case - delighted for you! I agree on the card. I don't think it matters at all that you're pregnant. Her loss isn't changed by that and any support and kindness she receives is a good thing.

reggie Glad you're feeling straighter and personally, from the info you've posted, I'm absolutely sure that your baby doesn't have DS. TBH, a 1:10 risk is flipping low, if you consider what 1:10 really means. AND the other physical markers are good. All will be fine. But I'm thinking of you all the same as the logic doesn't stand up with something so important, does it?

ski this time a missing apostrophe. I'm watching you...

everyone Got to run, just trying to put warning messages all over MAC that nothing will be posted for a week then off to pack. Will not be back until I'm back, as it were. Have a wonderful week, don't lay any babies and take care of yourselves in the heat (I nearly fainted in Sainsbury's today which was embarassing, so am banned from moving off the sofa and have been provided with an iced drink to cool me).

Love to all -

CUNextTuesday · 22/05/2010 17:48

ta-ra luv, see you when we see you...

Today we bought an estate car. The descent into suburban, middle-class, home-counties hairdo-ville begins right here...

skihorse · 22/05/2010 18:23

rots I'm doing the whole apostrophe thing to keep you on your toes. Oh yes. Seriously, wtf? Is this what the famous pregnancy hormones are doing? Have a lovely, lovely time, try not to give birth in the aisle of an ex-Aeroflot twin-propellor plane - I'm sure boxer has only the very best things to say about their pilots!

I'm having a lovely time off work - seriously, I feel so relaxed and I feel "healthy". The bump doesn't hurt, I've pottered around, I'm getting enough sleep - a few odd hours here and there e.g., this morning awake from 2-5. But on the whole I feel great. Jailbait just said "I don't think your little man is going to last 8 weeks." MY man? MY man? Since when is this my responsibility?

haha cunty - and a year ago you were motorbike chick!

FannyPriceless · 22/05/2010 19:10

cunty Is this when I admit that we actually have a Volvo estate?

All Thanks for the feedback on the card for SIL. Of course you all speak sense.

rots Have fun!

honey We are having barbeque tonight too. MrP went to the farm shop this morning and got fillet steak, two types of sausages, chicken wings and lamb chops. (It's just the two of us - poor man has obviously had bbq withdrawal.) I WILL have a glass of wine in the evening sunshine. And I WILL have rare steak. Yum yum.

organiccarrotseedsareplanted · 22/05/2010 20:29

Oh I can't keep away!!! Thanks all for messages

Quick note though - I just saw someone else's news re house on t'other place (just not mentioning names in case there's a reason not to, not being odd, but it's not my news to tell).

And while I really wanted to say BRILLIANT NEWS I suddenly realised that my offer isn't one I want mentioned on FB please. Just in case a comment gets put up about several of us selling, etc. Will explain on rasta.

I really am off now!

SilverSky · 22/05/2010 21:10

Apols reg got you and fannypack confused. Soz.

nectar have done three loads of washing, watched tv, napped on sofa ! Have been out in sun this morning and nearly overheated. Need to go to stables but waiting til it cools down and it's still too hot too walk mutt. Tho am still retching at the flashback of having to pull a grass poo from it's butt hole this afternoon. I kid you not.

SilverSky · 22/05/2010 21:13

Bye bye rot'ster ! will miss yooooooooou!

OkieCokie · 23/05/2010 13:32

Moo I am here. Sorry I could not make our mini Pesh meet this weekend, I have been hostess with the mostess all weekend entertaining 6 adults and 4 children. They have all departed (after 3 BBQs in the space of 24 hrs including bacon on the BBQ for breakfast) and I am having a well deserved sit on the sofa while Mr C sleeps off the excesses of yesterday.

Reggie I am so sorry to hear of your scan results. It all sounds very familiar . I am pleased you have made your decision and as you know I made the same one and had the CVS a couple of weeks ago. I personally could not have gone through the next 6 months thinking "what if" and I needed to know. We had the Bank Holiday weekend to wait for the results (so 5 days in total) but they came through fine and had the final results last Thursday (they take 2 weeks to cultivate the cells to test for more uncommon abnormalities) and these were fine too. I did a lot of research and what rots says is true and that the person doing the procedure is quite important. I had an appt with Professor Kypros Nicolaides (which I cancelled) as he is supposed to be the best person in Europe. He operates his clinic out of the fetal medicine centre in London on Wednesdays. It is about £450.00 and you have the scan and bloods done again. They prepare you for a long wait there (up to 4 - 6 hrs) as he spends a lot of time with each patient going through the options. Personally I could not wait a week for the appt and the test and went to Keith Duncan at the women's wellness centre in London on a private basis (which is the private clinic associated with where I am having the baby). Two weeks seems such a long wait? Could you go private and if not could you not push pressure on your hospital/doctor to be seen quicker?

The stats of mc were a worry for me and I discussed these with my consultant. I was told they are based on an average taken from all the people qualified to carry out the tests, some performing 1000s per year, some as few as 10 per year and therefore it is always best to be seen by a fetal medicine specialist who performs a lot of these tests. Keith Duncan was so blasé and dismissive about my mc concerns it made me feel reassured!

If you want to discuss further then email me via the other place and I can call you.

Re Peshnic I am around on 5th June. I love picnics.

Poo nice EDD! Are we going to see you here more frequently now? Giz some brie and a bottle of Chianti.

Rots nice house news.

Our animal news is we found our cat on the roof of our house last night. He had climbed out of the landing window and was just sitting on the very top of the roof looking down at us in the garden. Pissed Mr C was trying to lure him in shaking a box of cat treats. He was having none of it. He is safe back in now, he must have got bored and just came in when he was good and ready and all the pissed people had gone to bed.

OkieCokie · 23/05/2010 13:47

Oh and Fanny you are really having a stressful time at the moment. Hope you are doing OK.

FannyPriceless · 23/05/2010 14:51

Thanks okiedokie, I am doing fine. I think it has only just hit me today that the legal thing is actually over. It's been such a dominant downer in my life for so long I almost can't believe that I never have to give it another thought!

My biggest bloody problem now is the heat! I have no cool clothes big enough for being 8.5 mths. I am considering getting into the paddling pool. Also think I'll send MrP out to fetch pina colada ingredients.

skihorse · 23/05/2010 15:41

okie You really are lovely!

I'm in my element today - I've lost my temper at the stables and thrown up in the street. And as for my boasting yesterday about how wonderful I felt? Pah! Woke up this morning with a tiny bump - so small was it I could see my toes (no, I've not got flippers!). By midday I was waddling, holding the small of my back and bitchin'.

I am having a dog poo free weekend. They're still in kennels yaaaaay!

fanny I thought I saw some ice lollies lurking at the bottom of the freezer - when I investigated it turned out it was a box of 36 suitable for deep-frying dutch "delights" purchased by jailbait. Swizz.

CurlyCasper · 23/05/2010 18:48

Today:
Cold bath, feet in bucket of cold water, ice cream, ice lolly stick thing, and walking around in long tops and big granny pants (look like cotton cycling shorts so not too scary for the neighbours!)

  • lots of housework and gardening. The veg and herb patch actually has some green in it now. But I expect we'll won't be enjoying the fruits of our labour until well after this baby is born

Hope all who have been dealing with shite/feeling like poo are seeing the light. I'm not going to write much more in case this (again) is not able to be posted.

Cosmosis · 24/05/2010 08:58

I think we should all be allowed the day off today, what do you think??

skihorse · 24/05/2010 09:20

It's a bank holiday here Cossie - simply explain to your boss that you grew up in NL and you wish to respect their religious holidays.

CurlyCasper · 24/05/2010 09:27

I had last Monday off sick. And this is my last Monday at work for the best part of the year, so I mustn't grumble. However, I will support your cause, cossie ]

iggypiggy · 24/05/2010 09:42

Did you all miss me?!

gotta catch up on fred... not sure what happening...

I haz offer on da house tho!

casps is this your last week?

reginaMonologue · 24/05/2010 11:02

G'morning everyone.

Hope that you all had lovely weekends - I spent mine with the beginnings of "distraction spending" mania and we found ourselves in Manchester purchasing hubby his new car (since I'm getting his) - did you know that Manchester is a f*cking long way to go see a limited edition convertible sports car, esp. when you are driving up there in a Yaris with no air-con and its 34 degrees outside? Anyway, car purchased, my Yaris part exchanged and new motor will be ready for pick up next monday. I in the meantime have a Prius packed with gadgets to keep me occupied... ho hum... guess who got the better deal ;-).

okie thanks you for your post, and ski don't you be getting all emotional over it, one snot covered poster on here is more than enough (I've done enough balling for every single PESH on here over the past week, trust me - you don't need it what with being ready and ripe to pop soon enough!).

We've opted for the amnio as it's a tinier bit less risky than the CVS and we've got to wait till 16 weeks to have that done so that the chances of enough fluid being available are good, so we've just got to wait a little while for it, however the results should be through in a day or two after the test. We did consider private treatment but the person who is doing my amnio (Dr. Catherine Greenwood) was one of the ones mentioned by the lady I had my private scan with, so I'm pretty happy with her as my Obstetrician in waiting).

It's OK though, as I said in the other place we're just going to treat it as part of this pregnancy's ante-natal care and get on with life until we have to get across the next bridge, if there is one.

I am going to ring the hospital today hopefully and see if I can book in to see the consultant to have everything explained to me thoroughly rather than be bamboozled with information on the day - I want to make sure they're using the best practice procedures and check out what the consultant I'm seeing is like. I'd also like her to see me too before the event, I know I go on about my flab but really, rather be told now if it's an issue rather than on the day.

All in all then I'm feeling much better about it all today, rational brain has taken over and emotional brain has taken a couple of days off (though watching the last episode of Lost didn't help it retreat that far into submission, oh, it was just so sad!).

Once again everyone, thank you for sharing your thoughts, experiences and feelings on this whole dilemma, it's sound advice like you all offered that someone needs to hear when they've just been blatted with the sledgehammer of diplomacy that is the NHS as we know and love...

Enjoy the sunshine everyone, have a Pimms on me... smoked salmon canapé anyone?

OkieCokie · 24/05/2010 11:13

Hey reggie glad to see you are in better spirits and have it all worked out in an nice rational way. I can't say I was as calm as you seem to be (moo really knows my demeanour when I was going through it - she was a star by the way as I didn't really want to talk to my RL friends about it!)

I feel sick today. It is the same kind of ms feeling I had at 7-9 weeks which disappeared ages ago. Weird.

Iggs welcome back you old Pesh you. Are you a bronzed beauty?

Anyone fancy skiving off this afternoon to drink wine in the park? Reggie is bringing the Pimms.

CurlyCasper · 24/05/2010 11:25

Buuuuuuunnndddlllllleeeeee! Welcome back iggy. Of course I missed you. Now give us a go on those magnificent norks

Yes,'tis my last week, which would be a wonderful thing were there not not much to be done.

Glad to hear the more positive approach reggie. That deserves the Pimms. okie I'm sure you won't feel sick once you've started drinking it

Must go and do some slog. Boooo, hissss

FannyPriceless · 24/05/2010 11:35

Ooo, yes, I'm in for wine in the park. You'll have to wheel me across the grass, and if I sit down on the ground there's approximately zero chance of me being able to get up again. (I'm picturing several fat-bellied PESHes trying to haul me up and everyone saying 'oof' and falling over.)

reg You are doing brilliantly and seem to have got your thoughts in a really good place.

Am I being unreasonable to have placed the following note on my front door?
"Please be considerate and patient when knocking. On crutches and very heavily pregnant. Do not knock unless you really need to speak to us. If you need directions ask someone else. Thank you."

I am allowed to be grumpy and a bit rude at this stage, aren't I? I just had some guy knock on the door asking "Where is X Farm?". I said "You're on it - that's the farmhouse right there." (pointing across the yard to the very obvious enormous farm house clearly labelled X Farm ON THE BLOODY STREET!) Aaaargh! Every other house in the village fronts on to the lane and has a name plate. Our house is off the road, tucked away in a farm yard, and not even visible from the lane. Why, therefore, do they choose my house to ask for stupid directions that they wouldn't need if they simply looked in front of their nose for once? This guy actually saw me hobbling towards the door through the glass and clearly felt guilty so tried to jump in his car and run away before I got there. Prick.

Rant over. I knew you'd understand.
