I thought EU-legislation from a few summers back banned all the chemicals in fly-spray which actually made it effective! So I'd not worry. I used to make my own from garlic, lemon juice & rind. Don't ask me if it ever worked - they never tell you.

We're off to the vet in an hour - poor little monkey is not perking up. Jailbait walked her at midnight and 3am and more explosive poop. I woke up this morning at 7 as she was puking under my side of the bed and she won't even accept a little slither of ham this morning.

I only wanted the vet money for a maxi-cosi. Julian can walk!

skihorse · 06/06/2010 09:45

carrots is in hospital with a bleed and is waiting for a doctor. I need to go out now but if anyone could send her a text or two her number is on the other place. xx

SilverSky · 06/06/2010 12:31

ski you mean citronella?

Poor rotters hope all is ok !! Will try and text her!!

FannyPriceless · 06/06/2010 13:40

Very worried about carrots. Really hoping it is something minor. My best PESH thoughts are with you, rotty. xxx

organiccarrotseedsareplanted · 06/06/2010 15:50

Hi all, I'm back. All fine. Started yesterday afternoon with the MOST minor of bleeds, teeny tiny, which I just ignored, but it didn't stop so eventually I called the labour ward who told me to come in and be checked out. True to form the doc would tell me blue bloody nothing as she was a junior, and I was told I had to wait for the registrar who wouldn't be available until this morning. I did see this as a good sign, ie that it wasn't serious, and they did a foetal heart trace for ages which was fine, and he's moving well.

Anyway, a horrible night passed on the ward filled with both pre and post natal mums and their babies, and I would have been rudely awakened at 7am if I'd been asleep, which I wasn't, by water jugs delivery by two women who stood at the entrance to the door and shouted to each other how many beds were in use, and then proceeded to giggle at the loud, squeaky wheel on their trolley .

Another trace in the morning, then waiting and waiting and waiting for a bloody doctor to turn up. I still had a bit of blood this morning and I was told that I would have to have 24 clear hours before they'd release me. I asked the MW what the possible causes were and just got, "well, we don't know yet, and sometimes we never find out". Grrr.

After another few hours of incarceration I went for another disucssion, saying I was considering self-discharging. I went through all the options that could be the cause, and how likely they were, and other than placental abruption was there anything dangerous (no) and what were the chances of PA given the lightness of the bleed and closed cervix, no blood seen on torch up fanny, etc, she said very, very low but she couldn't guarantee it. I said well why not scan me to see if it's the placenta and she said that it wasn't necessary as placenta was way high and it was V unlikely to be that. So clearly my personal risk assessment outcome was that I was fine.

In the end I waited until 2.30 and could wait no longer, so decided to leave as I was going totally stir crazy, as were the other poor mums on the ward who had had their babies and were desperate to get out.

So YOB finally agreed to take me home and we came home via the garden centre and bought new fish for our pond (we think the dog ate the others!) and a pond lily, to cheer me up. As we can't tell the fish apart I've named them all "Billy".

Thanks for the thoughts, silver and fanny and to ski for the post. Hope your dog was fixed by the vet...

Backinthebox · 06/06/2010 15:54

Glad all is well, Rots, all sounds a bit unpleasant.

Off out now to watch cricket. Hurray .

FannyPriceless · 06/06/2010 16:17

I'm very pleased rots. Sorry about grimness of the ward. I know exactly what you mean about the water trolley women. Why are hospitals full of these people?

skihorse · 06/06/2010 16:27

I'm very, very glad to hear all is well rots - I suppose if nothing is coming out of the cervix and you're not having pain and you of course know the signs of labour... I can't see any point staying on a ward. Sounds fucking miserable - do you think the new mums were too scared to say "right, I'm off, wouldn't want to be ya"?

silver Yes sorry, I meant citronella. I honestly don't think there'd be anything too bad in horse fly-spray - I mean even horsey-shampoo is supposed to be milder than anything we get... and we're not supposed to use bute on horses these days...

Little dog is going to be OK - the vet was doing a fine trade this morning, what looked like a car crash victim with broken leg, us and someone else who'd had an op as he'd been shaved all up his front leg. I think jailbait overreacted and I personally would've given it another 24 hours - on the other hand at least he cares. One man and his Jackapoo. I fear Julian will spend many an hour at A&E with his anxious dad - when dad's out of town mum will slap an A-team plaster on it and squirt a bit of idodine solution on it.

skihorse · 06/06/2010 18:36

I've just come over all emotional. For the last 5 winters my heating bills have come in at around 2-3k! This winter was a very hard & cold winter and I was very sick during the xmas holidays and spanking up the heating even though I'm really paranoid normally about turning it on. Anyway... just got the "catch-up" bill. 86 euros. (New flat I might add rather than rambling house.)

OkieCokie · 06/06/2010 19:53

Rots so pleased you are OK, I can think of better places to spend a Saturday night.

Mini Pesh meet with moo was great, and I can confirm she is not a man! Ha ha.

Right I am off to ebay to try and find a second hand Phil and Teds in decent nick. I was kind of hoping I would get away without a "double" option but I think expecting a 2 year old to walk everywhere at a decent pace in the winter is just not going to happen.

rollerbaby · 06/06/2010 22:45

Blimmin heck Rots you poor thing, that sounds quite scary and frustrating. Glad you are feeling ok now. New fish sound great - we have some and hairy moo only looks at them. He hasn't worked out that he can actually swim yet. ha ha.

Fucking hell Ski what do you heat your flat with - nuclear power? That is one hell of a heating bill! I thought ours were bad...

Had such a nice day. Out and about walking doggy and having lunch with friends. Feel very content and happy and bizarrely not too worried about going back to work after a week off. I'm sure I will be moaning at 7am tomorrow...

Hope you have had a good weekend one and all.

Did you find your P&Ts Okie? I have just put a puppy pen o there in case you're interested!!!

honey The first house was in a sub-alpine climate with snow on the ground 5 months a year... Very well insulated - just fucking freezing with storage heaters which I couldn't afford to replace - due to crippling bills. Second place - only heated 2 rooms - I suspect I was paying for LL's heating - as it transpired when we moved out that we were covering electricity for areas outside our house... Hence am currently in court battle.

This place is now costing 86 euros a month gas + leccy. I'm thrilled - it's the first time in years I've not had my summer plans knocked in to a cocked hat by a horrible bill.

Btw, loved your weekend photos - your maternity dress is really beautiful! I thought you and okie had already met though.

reggie How are you doing? Do you still have your feet up and living the life of a lady of leisure? Btw, have you told your mum you've been having these tests? As for the Connie-esque consultant - personally I prefer that to someone talking to me as though I've got an IQ barely capable of handling velcro...

reginaMonologue · 07/06/2010 12:01

rots glad that all is OK and you are much more relaxed now you're home... I for one have gone stir crazy during my imposed 3 days of relaxation, so I hope you've plenty to keep you occupied!

ski see note to rots, I'm doing ok though getting a bit edgy now the results day is all but 24hrs away... My parents know about the tests, it was a bit hard to avoid them not knowing since I had the phone call about the high risk when I my dad was visiting and I basically turned to a pile of mush in front of him... OH's parents don't know however, I didn't see the point in telling them anything unless there was something to tell and tbh, I don't need them fussing over what is going on... I don't mean that in a harsh way but it's tough enough talking about it in person to few people that do know so I didn't want to add more to the list, especially if the results are not what we're hoping for. OH has been wonderful though over past couple of days... I quite like the way he's been very dominant over what I do and don't do and tending to my every whim... which is nice, but now he's out a work for the day I am tempted to get myself an airing before I start rocking on the sofa whilst head-banging the TV remote - you don't want to know how much Baby Time I've watched on Health and Discovery over the weekend...

BTW, I figured out how to search for sellers from the UK on ETSY, if you go to the home page and look at the "ways to shop" nav box on the lhs there is a link there called "shop local" which takes you to a search page where you can tap in United Kingdom, and voila, all the UK sellers turn up. I have to admit though most of what I've seen would need to ship from the US, but most of them charge just a few dollars to send stuff over.

On silvers comment about horse fly spray, on a not directly related note, how does a pregnant lady deal with mosquitoes? I'm planning perhaps to go to Greece but the mozzies love me so I'd need some kinda deterrent, but not sure how that works when carrying offspring internally... any ideas? Btw, when I had horses we just stuffed um full of garlic and stuck a fly fringe on and hope for the best... that's a little lackadaisical I know, but never had much success in the chemical options...

OkieCokie · 07/06/2010 12:21

Tis indeed nice to have bills reduced. We remortgaged recently feel slightly better off each month, although it is all being siphoned off to top up non existent maternity leave pay.

OK PESHlets, what is the general consensus towards caffeine? I am a bit of a coffee addict and I am suffering decaf but allow myself once decent cup a day. Should I be abstaining entirely?

OkieCokie · 07/06/2010 12:24

Reggie try this, it is very good imo and no DEET.

organiccarrotseedsareplanted · 07/06/2010 12:30

reggie I promised if I left hospital I would go straight home to bed. Instead (after leaping into the air and punching it, shouting "I'm FREEEE" as we walked down the hopsital corridor), I had YOB drive me to the garden centre and we bought new fish for the pond :-) I'm still excited about that.

I did then go home and rest though!

But glad you're bearing up and best for tomorrow.

CUNextTuesday · 07/06/2010 13:13

okie I had one giant latte every morning, then about 4 cups of tea instead of coffee, then a normal coffee after dinner every night. It's not going to hurt unless you are prone to high blood pressure or palpitations of some such. Fret not.

All kimdeal has her photos up on FB!! Bless his ickle cotton socklets

CUNextTuesday · 07/06/2010 13:15

okie I mean to say at about your stage - now I have as much Douwe Egberts as i fancy as a reward for getting this far . It causes no discernable effects.

SkaterGrrrrl · 07/06/2010 13:16

Hello chaps, I am back from the Caribbean with a tan and a vast, tub-thumping bump.

Has anyone sprogged in the last week?

SilverSky · 07/06/2010 13:58

okie all i can say is lucky!!!! I can't stomach coffee any more except the odd decaff frothy variety. Tried again this morning with good ole nescafe gold blend but it's sat on my desk untouched. So unfair.

skater how were your hols? How did you cope in the heat or did you have man servants fanning you at your every whim?

SkaterGrrrrl · 07/06/2010 14:02

I coped with the heat by doing lots of swimming - so nice to feel weightless!

Lovely break thanks but was jealous of my sisters drinking lovely rum cocktails while I had fruit punch!

rots · 07/06/2010 14:56

skater wow - sounds lurvely!

Name changed BTW. Tis I.

SilverSky · 07/06/2010 14:59

rots would never have guessed! Who goes there!

skihorse · 07/06/2010 15:00

okie I went right off my coffee for the first 14 weeks - even put the coffee machine away in a cupboard! Since then, I have 2 if I'm working from home and probably 4 if I'm at the office. As cunty says, I've got very low blood pressure and Julian seems fine - I mean the sonographer tells me to have a coffee before going for a scan so that he's dancing! I am just back from lunch with the girls and a lovely glass of sangria. [hic]

skater Are you planning to spend any time in the UK this year?

I de-friended Kim as I thought she'd foresaken us on fb. Meh.

reggie I found when I did the "shop locally" thing I got 100s of shops selling NON baby stuff. I shall have to try again. You're right though - the postage from the US is mostly very reasonable - but the Dutch are absolute buggers for import duties. Glad to hear you survived the weekend though - I take it you had no twinges or anything else unwanted going on in the wombular region? How are you going to keep yourself amused until tomorrow afternoon?

CUNextTuesday · 07/06/2010 15:07

tsk ski defriend in haste repent at leisure...
