Cossie If I forget to put deodorant on after a shower - it is all fine - so odd! So have been mainly just using perfume...

casp my dog the same - keeps close when out on walks... He has nearly cause trippage often...

OkieCokie · 28/05/2010 14:02

moo your M&P beige thing made me chuckle. I was same and liked the idea of neutral colours for everything until I realised babies go for and grab at plastic in the most garish colours possible! I had a M&P tastefully coloured playmat which was flogged pretty quickly on ebay and I got a Tiny Love singing and dancing brightly coloured one!

Just another tip not sure what you are all doing about change bags but I have bought and sold two as I have found them useless. I know have one of these and just pop it in a normal bag along with all other baby paraphernalia

OkieCokie · 28/05/2010 14:05

I on not very pongy either in the under arm region but in the fj region is it a differnet story. (TMI?)

CUNextTuesday · 28/05/2010 14:10

Colleagues have collected for me £106 in Mothercare vouchers. Any idea what I can buy?

rollerbaby · 28/05/2010 14:17

Ha ha Okie DITTO!!!!

I'm embarrassed to tell you about the changing bag and kit I have bought. It is well YUMMY MUMMY. I will be outcast by NCT and fellow hypnobirthers for sure. Let's just say I have a friend who gets 50% off at Anya Hindmarsh and I have taken big time advantage of that. Got a bag with pockets for stuff and an 'emergency' kit with pouches and bags for all the bits. Is well nice. Too good for a baby.

Know waht you mean - the beige baby gyms look a bit weedy anyway. I think the bright bouncy flower one from M&P.

I'm now slightly depressed - I though after years of smelling bad and using industrial deodorant, I had found a natural deodorant that actually worked on me. Boo. I am lovin' the lack of leg hair though - usually I have to wax every 10 days or so .

Hokey that bag looks great. What didn't you like about changing bags in general?

I loathe "beige". But the brights are also hideous in many baby shops. I saw a lovely tasteful scheme in Living Etc the other month, so that's what I'm aiming for - serene blues & greens with white (minimalist) furniture and nerry a stuffed toy....har very har..... This is also cos we only recently decorated the spare room. Babies adore floor length, coffee coloured satin hotel-chic curtains, don't they?

Cosmosis · 28/05/2010 14:22

We haz been given lovely wooden ikea baby gym ? is v good combo of tasteful and bright.

SilverSky · 28/05/2010 14:24

Don't really need deoderant. Ever. I stinks of luvly fleurs.

It's trooooooooooooo, get your daughter a pony or two and the boys will be kept at bay (no pun intended ! ) til, at least the age of 16 !! Esp if nag is on DIY!!!!

MuvverCare has got lots of nice things nowadays. Used to be fogey but not no more. They do this cool thing that is like a doughnut for babies to lay on but when they are starting to or wanting to sit up it folds on half and supports their back. I quite like it.

FannyPriceless · 28/05/2010 14:25

cunty Nice colleagues, lucky you! You'll have no trouble spending them. I suggest don't rush into anything you probably won't need . In the early days we were constantly popping into Mothercare for another pack of sleep suits or vests in some particular size we suddenly realised we needed more of. Or you'll want breast pads, lansinoh, baby sheets, sleeping bags, car shades, etc etc. If all else fails you'll soon spend it on nappies.

iggypiggy · 28/05/2010 14:29

cunty that is lovely of them

you cans buy anyfing.. what do you still need?

OkieCokie · 28/05/2010 14:52

Moo your bag sounds fine!

Vag I had a skip hop one then progreesed to Stork Sac and neither of them were big enough and pissed me off as were fiddly. I also carried too much stuff around "just in case" and overfilled them. So the skip hop pronto does me fine and I can use a normal bag. Also, I ended up not liking the fact that they looked like change bags and not a bag that I would usually carry around.

However, I must say some have insultated pockets and they are quite good for keeping stuff warm for a couple of hrs.

iggypiggy · 28/05/2010 15:02

okie whaddya mean 'keeping stuff warm' ?! Like a poo filled nappy?! Or a Greggs steak bake?!

CUNextTuesday · 28/05/2010 15:05

Babby monitor. Like the idea of a doughnut. Do they do one for mothers as well?

CurlyCasper · 28/05/2010 15:31

okie I haz a pronto too! And another similat travel mat thingy in the same fabric as my matching luggage set (bought in a moment of treat myself preggo madness - will be the most coordinated woman on the labour ward )

I plan to shove it in other bags or on the pram. No big fancy changing bags for me!

cunty there are some very funky monitors there that Hom might like investigating too. It was the only section SFF would look at in the beginning - gadgets!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 28/05/2010 15:32

I know the doughtnut. My bro had it for my little nephew. 'Twas expensive and cute and he was adorable propped up in it, but quick as a flash he worked out how to flop out of it (it's quite high up once you're in there - therefore v. strong likelihood of flopping out onto face) and that was the end of that. Lasted about 2 weeks. So, not a good buy IMO.

Haven't noticed any diminution of sweat and body hair sadly, but Okie's TMI is pretty much bang on. Gah.

vag babies DO love floor-length curtains, but not in a good way.

moo sorry to diss your staying power! Bet you're gonna show me now by knitting a blanket twice as big and three times as fancy as mine, yeah?

FannyPriceless · 28/05/2010 15:39

cunty You won't need a baby monitor for the first 6 months, but when you get one, I can highly recommend this one. (Cheaper at John Lewis though.) It's very good, and we totally depend on the temperature thing plus use the soothing tunes quite often!

I have just bought this doughnut after being jelus of a friend who has one. Brilliant design as babies learning to sit up fall forward on to their faces a lot. I purchased mine from ebay though.

SilverSky · 28/05/2010 16:12

My pal haz that playnest passed down from another pal! Very popular !

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 28/05/2010 16:20

That was the one my bro' had too. Well, I won't knock it any further seeing as people have already bought it . Probably other babies would be more likely to play in it rather than focus solely on falling out over the side and banging their heads on floor/sofa/whatever is near by. My nephew has never been a fan of being stuck inside things (moses basket, ball pen etc.) Possibly he was a bit too old for it as well.

FannyPriceless · 28/05/2010 16:32

Oh dear! Well if we have the same problem at least I only spent tuppence on it.

skihorse · 28/05/2010 16:40

As far as sterilising kits go - I picked up a Philips microwave (easy!) bottle sterilising kit for a tenner in ASDA the other week. This doesn't make sense to me because Philips is dutch and it's 25 euros here...

cunty Toyz & books? We've already bought some books. Night light/vibrator thing for the cot?

honey I started buying "subtle" colours - but have relented of late when I discovered as okie says that baybeez have no taste - it must be an "at either end of the spectrum" thing where all life starts and ends with "I shall wear purple"... The nurse/health insurance company sent us an orange and maroon zebra thing - apparently they love it.

I hadn't even thought about the sweating - but yes, less sweaty pits. Dogs also staying very close when out walkies - in particular big dog reluctant to leave my side - just as well as I've not got the speed or strength to drag her off some smaller mutt she's leapt on. Little dog got kicked again last night by Julian and once again gave me a very intense look - like I control him!

CurlyCasper · 28/05/2010 16:59

Right folks - I'm outta here. Work over.

Off to spend the weekend hosting all of the future grandparents. (sure I'll end up seeking sanctuary here!)

SilverSky · 28/05/2010 19:17

My mutt couldn't give two hoots about sticking close.

CUNextTuesday · 28/05/2010 19:34

fanfare forgive my blatant ignorance, but why won't we need a babby monitor till six months? We don't have a moses basket or owt so kid will be a-kip upstairs...

CUNextTuesday · 28/05/2010 19:38

should we buy a moses basket?

PollyPoo · 28/05/2010 20:44

Cunty where will babba be sleeping? In a drawer? I always made sure Boo slept upstairs, but never bothered with baby monitor as walls are like paper so you can hear her from just about anywhere in the house. If we move I will get monitor though.
