cazzybabs · 24/06/2010 19:22

oh dear...I told my GP friend what my blood pressure was and he was horrifided!!! Oh well

really hoping it doesn't get to the forecasted 27 on Monday... can cope with it at home but not at work..2 weeks 2 weeks just 2 more weeks please please please

Bubbabear · 24/06/2010 19:39

Lizzie its 4 weeks, 1 day til maternity leave! Means i will have a smidgen less than 4 weeks until my due date.

Just waiting for payday (next weds) to donate for Caz

And waiting for DPs payday so i can order the travel system i have finally decided on!

Nursery furniture is also being delivered (& assembled on delivery!) on Wednesday while im at work so that will be lovely to come home to My dad is popping round my house to let the delivery people in & sort it all out, all i have to do is draw up a floor plan of where i'd like it all to go! Brilliant! I think he's actually quite pleased to have been asked as now he feels he has 'an important job to do for the baby' bless him. I am getting a glider nursing chair as it came free with the rest of the furniture set - yay!

Only thing is I have to paint the walls / skirting boards & put the border up before then & im off on my last mamouth weekend drive up to North Wales straight after work tomorrow, eek!

Why oh why do i never ask for help??? Is it a pregnancy thing or just me?? I suppose with DP being away so much & i dont like people feeling sorry for me & like to make out like i can cope with everything just fine (which i can but would be easier if i accepted an extra pair of hands once in a while!). Esp as its just dawned on me today (silly i know) that its only 8 weeks until little bubba is due & it took seeing my reflection in a window today for me to realise that i am actually heavily pregnant lol

Oh well...best get the painting started before bed. At least it only needs one fresh coat and the ceiling doesnt need touching!
Oooo, just a quick question before i go & get covered in blue paint & resemble papa smurf; Are babaslings or baby carriers better? Any opinions grateful as i dont know which would be more convenient / comfy / better for baby. (Sorry if this has come up before) x

Emster30 · 24/06/2010 20:16

cazzybabs where in the country are you? It's been a good 27 degrees here in London the last few days and is only going to get hotter! Luckily I have just one more day of commuting... this time tomorrow I will have finished work for a YEAR!!!!!!! can't believe it. I had my leaving do today and got so many lovely presents - all really useful and lovely things, like a playmat, cot mobile, soft toys, grobag, hand knitted stuff etc etc! People are lovely.

I am also struggling to walk now without BHs, and my bump was so sore when walking home tonight. I waited nearly half an hour for a bus home from the tube as I couldn't face the 10 min walk, and then had to ask for a seat as no one offered me one and I couldn't face standing. Normally I wouldn't mind for that length of journey but am shattered today with this heat.

cazzybabs · 24/06/2010 20:20

i am not far from you..cambridge...today was lovely about 24.

sparkle101 · 24/06/2010 20:32

Evening ladies.

Perhaps booking Bon Jovi a the O2 in the top tier when 7 months pregnant was not the best idea I have ever had. Phew it was hot and felt very uncomfortable - also didn't want to stand up in case my centre of gravity meant I would freefall into the section below! Baby seemed to enjoy it though as it was having a huge kicking/dancing session. Or was that something to do with the jumbo bag of fruit pastilles I ate?

I really do appreciate all your advice with regards to the nursing chair. crunchienutter It is the poang we have from Ikea and I have been having a sit and a move on it today and think it may be slightly too far reclined for me and the baby as you pointed out chulita mrszac I think you have more than persuaded me - you need to work for the glider chair association! Now if you could just convince DH! I'm going to get it anyway - it would just e nicer if he could agree!

thedogwalker · 24/06/2010 21:03

Hi all, just back from my shoping trip to the UK. Managed to visit family and friends in Aldershot, North Wales and Halifax, plus shopped til I literaly dropped. Filled the car, DH was convinced it wasn't all going to fit in. Now back in Germany and finishing off the Nursery.

Girlsyearapart I feel for you, I found it quite hard to get DH to understand just how tiring pregnancy is. They just don't get it, do they!!!!

Sparkle Respect, how did you manage a concert, phew, I'm tired just thinking about it.

I've read about the donatons for Caz, but have never used paypal. I've set up an account now, so can someone explain how I use that with the email addres, so that I can send some money.

bouncingblueberries · 24/06/2010 21:25

Thanks neenz was all very confusing. Phoned the antenatal clinic and they basically said not to worry - the women I spoke reckons I just misinterpreted the registrar's scribblings (in the nicest possible way)and to just assume I can give birth in the birthing unit (without a registrar present).

Grrr. Starting to wish I'd opted for a home birth after all...

girls sending you some hugs. dh's can be rubbish sometimes can't they? Mine started freaking out tonight about putting ds to bed without me (had to be at a meeting at ds's new school at 7pm). felt like I had 2 x 4 year olds to placate before I headed out the door! Sheesh! It's not like dh has never put ds to bed before, no idea what that tantrum was about!

Poncherello · 24/06/2010 21:31

Evening all - everyone has been busy today! 2 weeks until I finish work and 8 weeks to go til d-day here too, got midwife appt tomorrow which I'm looking forward to as it's the same midwife that looked after me for the last 8 hours before DD arrived.

If it's of any help ...

Nursing chair - Neenz I also used an arm free high backed leather dining chair which seemed to work well ... especially for getting on and off after the c-section. Planning on using it this time too.

Baby sling - used a Baby Bjorn which I really liked, felt like it kept DD upright and she would always fall asleep in it. Best part was when she was old enough to face out - she had really crazy standing up hair from birth so people were always smiling at her and she'd smile back!

Walking - I am officially waddling and need to pee after a few strides even if I've just been - nice.

BBB - know what you mean about the grandparents, everyone went overboard with DD and I think this time they just think we have everything we need, even though we need to still buy a new cot / mattress / bedding / clothes if it's a boy / buggy board etc etc.

I think it's time for bed but I can still hear DD chatting away to herself in her room ... wow I wish I had her stamina!

Chulita · 25/06/2010 08:49

bubbabear we used a baby bjorn for DD but I couldn't bf in it. She loved it though and when she got too big we bought an Ergo which she still uses at least 4 times a week at 19 months. This time round I got a Sleepybaby wrap so I could try hands-free bfing while looking after DD. Several of my friends swear by them for the early weeks and I got it cheap on Ebay. Bubbaslings are basically exactly the same as the Sleepybaby wrap. They're not too good once the LO gets heavier though apparently.

thedogwalker if you go into your Paypal account and click on the the 'send money' tab at the top. Type the [email protected] address in the email box, then the amount and make sure you click the 'personal' tab under the amount so we don't pay fees for it. Click 'continue' and then confirm at the next step. HTH

What is it with DH's? Mine's normally an angel but last night he was shockingly grumpy. Left me in tears upstairs (bearing in mind I'm hormonal it doesn't take much, lol) I ended up pushing him into the garden and telling him he couldn't come back in til he was nice - didn't go down well but when he realised I really wasn't going to let him back in it made him smile and then he talked about what was bothering him instead of snapping at me. I really have to push him to talk about why he's grumpy but once he's told me he usually cheers up so it's worth the hassle!

cakeywakey · 25/06/2010 12:42

Afternoon all - last day at work today. Woo hoo!

Have just sent some money to Belle's fund, thanks for setting this up Chulita and others. I cried at Caz's birth post yesterday, hope that she and her DH are being well looked after.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone, here's hoping it holds up for the weekend

mrsZaC · 25/06/2010 14:09

hey ladies, yippee it's Friday, only 3 wks and 2 days left of work yippee! I'm really glad now as I was contemplating doing longer but bump feels sooooo heavy today even the thought of 3 weeks sounds a lot! crazy to think by the time I finish work some of you will be due - tee hee!

LizzieA just to let u know your donation to the Caz fund has gone through Just a reminder for anyone who wants to donate, the email address is [email protected]

Sorry to hear about DH troubles, if they are anything like mine I think they are just getting cold feet about their imminent arrival, my DH is going on and on about money at the moment, that's his wobbly, I think he's just worried cuz it's our first and he doesn't have much of a clue what he's in for more money wise than anything, especially with me going on maternity pay i'm sure all these worries will melt as soon as he sees his precious LO

I'm pretty much sorted purchase wise, just to get a couple of bits n' bobs like nail scissors, cotton wool etc. and sort out my hospital bag (putting off buying those yucky sounding maternity pads).

sparkle that I seem to be being paid by the nursing chair association! I was just quibbling about one a wee while ago and definetely haven't regreted my decision after my extensive research muchos respect for managing a full Bon Jovi concert -hi five!

Man i have one wriggly baby at the moment, last few days it's been wriggling non-stop! think it's stuck in a strange position and trying to wiggle it's way out!

Anyways I'm going to stop yabbering, hope your all coping well!

hugs 2 all xxx

USMum27 · 25/06/2010 14:54

Hello ladies - I hope I'm not too late to join in. I've been lurking for the past couple of weeks but didn't feel it was appropriate to join in during the midst of caz's terrible news.

I'm another Londoner (Wandsworth) due on the 20th of August with our first, a little girl. I'm starting to panic as I just realised I'm 7 months pregnant and this LO is going to arrive in two months!

Melting from the heat and not sure how much longer I'm going to be able to manage the 1.5 hour (each way) commute on the bloody hot Northern Line .... not supposed to start maternity leave for another 3 weeks

LittleMissSnowShine · 25/06/2010 15:27

Hi everyone!

We had the Belfast MN meet up this morning in a park really near my house - was really funny putting faces to names and getting to meet all these great ladies and their lovely DCs. Me and another first timer pregnant girl both went along and no one regaled us with horror birth stories which was very kind and refreshing!

mrsZaC I ordered a chair off Kiddicare this morning. You def should be a rep lol

Re: everyone's grumpy DH's - mine is being ok at the min but he's a teacher and he's marking 300 GCSE papers at the min for a bit of extra cash which we're going to use some off to buy a new bed and he's keeping some off to pay for a weekend with his mates, either a stag do or a football thing, in 2011. Extra cash always handy! However, he has to do the lot while still working full time in less than a fortnight and it is making him very grumpy indeed, even the world cup is only keeping him semi cheerful lol. So I predict tears before the fortnight is over!!

Hope you all have a great weekend! We're off to visit some friends tomorrow night who had a baby recently for a barbecue (got to buy very cute pressie yesterday!) and away overnight on Sunday to a gorgeous spa hotel for our wedding anniversary so grumpy DH or not, really looking forward to it

Alicetheinvisible · 25/06/2010 15:37

Hello ladies

Feel fat, hot and fed up today (DD isn't really helping tbh) and it has suddenly hit me that i am heavily pregnant. Who was it further up that mentioned it the other day? I was in denial i think. With DD i don't think i ever admitted to being heavily pg! Definitely harder in the heat though.

Mangaged to get a nice changing mat in TXmaxx today, and went to our little cutesie shop and bought my friend a woollen blanket for her baby shower. Was struggling to think of what to get, as everyone gets either something for the baby or smellies for the mum. I was going to do her a new mum survival kit, but had to admit to myself that i wasn't up to trawling the shops all day for bits. I thought the blanket would be nice for her and baby to snuggle up in during nighttime feeds.

Dibbydab · 25/06/2010 15:37

Afternoon girls, welcome USMum

Am going to order my chair tomorrow and have a look at slingy things on Ebay over the weekend.

I've started keeping a journal for the baby, just my general musings about being pregnant with him/her, how me and DH met, our wedding, honeymoon (not too much info obv ), my hopes the future etc. DH picked it up and asked if he could write something which surprised me as he's not very "touchy feely" with stuff like that, and he made me cry with what he wrote (in a nice way!) Hope to keep writing in it over the years to come - how I feel when I see them for the first time, first time they walk, first day at school etc. and maybe give it to the baby for their 18th birthday/wedding day/some other significant milestone. I'm a bit too slack to fill in one of those "my first year" books, so I'm improvising, it's quite theraputic as well.

Whenever I ask my mum what it was like when she was pregnant with me she says "Oh, it was so long ago (35 years!) I can't really remember", or she starts telling me then says "or actually, that might have been when I was pregnant with your sister "

Oooh, I saw the drop in midwife about my side pain - no problems, just baby kicking same spot constantly now it's head down.

One more week at work then I'm done, finito, after 18 years working full time - please god don't let the baby arrive too early - I need a break!

driedapricots · 25/06/2010 15:48

hi ladies

welcome USmum too - you have to stop that commute!!! it sounds horrific.

am in severe spd pain today..waddling like a duck at about 1mph is anyone else suffering from this??

dibbydab - i wrote a diary through my first pregnancy and am ashamed that i haven't this time round..just have not had the time - and frankly not sure what else to say this time!! poor second children.. i remember talking to other more experienced mums about being pregnant/having young children and being shocked that they couldn't remember all the details, but i understand now..there is so much to take in every single day as they develop your brain just can't retain it all.. same with pics, we took literally thousands in the first year - have calmed down a bit now which is a shame as dd is much cuter now then when a tiny baby!!
It's a lovely idea to try to write your feelings down as they develop. i haven't managed to do this (just about kept the my first year book up to date too - and actually these are more about physical development when what you really want to remember are the special/funny/cute things they do) but what we did do was write our dd a long letter on her 1st birthday with all our hopes and dreams etc for her to open when 16..and i think i might do one for her (and this next baby) every few years. life has a habit of speeding up to superhuman speeds once kids come along!
sorry for mammoth post...last few days at work and nothing to do..thank god for mumsnet!

neenz · 25/06/2010 15:56

Anyone else find their maternity clothes getting too small? Why make mat clothes that only fit till 7m pg? I am talking tops not trousers - only 2 of my tops reach to the bottom of my bump now [grr]. Have just had to order a couple more vests from ebay (the same as the 2 I have than still fit!). I have got a big bump but it is ridiculous!

Alicetheinvisible · 25/06/2010 16:04

neenz I found that too. Some maternity clothes i got last time just seem so short now. I haven't got any taller Some of the best tops i have are non-maternity tunic/smocks. Primark and Peacocks have been particularly good for cheap long vests, shirts and tops.

cazzybabs · 25/06/2010 17:35

My blood pressure is still very high .. but luckly she is going to refer me to a doc for some medication

pamplem0usse · 25/06/2010 19:28

Sorry girls I've been a bit rubbish. Crap signal where we were away and now too exhausted to post properly. Will do tomorrow AM. Caz's rose all pretty much sorted tho....

Apologies for the rant: nursing chair I'd ordered was out for delivery Wednesday and I was told that if we weren't in (because they gave us bugger all notice) redelivery would be arranged. Instead it was dropped off next door, where it's stayed for three days because we were away. Now I'm not happy at having inconvenienced them (the box was large) but I'm also really angry for two reasonsL

  1. The box had our mobile phone number on it. I don't want our next door neighbours having our personal numbers
  1. They heavily smoke and it now stinks.

Think I could cry. I don't even want it now.

sparkle101 · 25/06/2010 19:29

Have a thought about DHs - think its the weather - they seem to get very hot and bothered (never mind how we feel) and then they get snappy and unhelpful!

cazzybabs hope you're okay with your blood pressure - they put me on meds about two months ago and everything looking good now!

mrszac am very appreciative that your musings managed to kick me into doing something so thank you! Look forward to purchasing the chair over the weekend.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and don't get too exhausted with the heat - I dreamt about paddling pools last night after reading the posts on this thread!

cazzybabs · 25/06/2010 19:44

pamplem0usse - I emailed you to give you money to Caz...you neer got back to me I'll try again

cazzybabs · 25/06/2010 19:49

sorry was bein thick,..thought we had to email for another password type thing...have don eit now...god I am so stupid

pamplem0usse · 25/06/2010 19:54

cazzy I didn't ever get an email? Do say if you're still having trouble! xxx
