New thread

We really are getting through a thread a month lol!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
driedapricots · 22/06/2010 21:09

hi ladies
although i'm new back on here and haven't been following all the chat for a few months i am so so sad for Caz..i have just read her story too (in floods of tears) and posted there. you really are all a lovely support group for her.
i've been quite grumpy and a bit ambivalent about this pregnancy as have had so many other things going on in life to stress about, but it has certainly made me appreciate how precious this little life is, and i just want him/her to come out safe and well so i can take care and hold him/her close.
i hope the rest of you ladies are doing ok..not too hot and/or fed up with the footy!
i've been really tired today (maybe the heat i guess) and dh is away for work so i am planning a very early night. just 4 more working days left before mat leave starts too (thank god) - have those of you with other children in nursery seen the post on the employment thread about childcare vouchers whilst on mat leave? (it was posted a while ago now) great loophole...

cazzybabs · 22/06/2010 21:15

driedappricot - can you link or sum up the thread on childcare vouchers

driedapricots · 22/06/2010 21:20

i'll try...!
from this link there's another which explains more...

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/employment_issues/972925-Anyone-about-to-go-on-maternity-leave-and-currently-us ing

cazzybabs · 22/06/2010 21:45

I understand head nor tail of that...oh well...I don't think I'll be needing them anyway next year

driedapricots · 22/06/2010 21:52

basically if your work currently pay (all/part of)your nursery fees on the childcare voucher scheme then when you go onto SMP they are still liable to contribute on your behalf as they can't take it from the government SMP money..it's a cash benefit that remains whilst you're on mat leave, like a car allowance/pension/bonus. i'm desperate to keep my dd1 in nursery 2 days a week for my (and her) sanity whilst i'm on mat leave!!

LittleMissSnowShine · 23/06/2010 08:33

dibbydab - Love that chair!! Very tempted. We have a bed settee in another room that I had been thinking about moving into the nursery but it's a really cheap Ikea one and not really a very pleasant prospect to think about sitting on for hours on end doing feeds. I'm thinking a proper nursing chair might be a good investment if DH doesn't want me to be permanently grumpy!!

Baby's been really active last couple of days, hoping it's gearing up to shift itself out of transverse!!

Alicetheinvisible · 23/06/2010 08:57

I have no idea which way round this baby is lying There are bumps in different places each day. Went to bed feeling a bit sore round my ribs last night, and woke up this morning (and throughout the night) with a rock hard bump and very sore ribs.

I was thinking of a new sofa as i was hoovering ours out this morning....(i wish)

bouncingblueberries · 23/06/2010 09:04

Morning girls

Phew it's hot already here! Last day at work today so I brought in 2 dozen Crispy Creme doughnuts - yum yum!

Just read Caz's birth story - so beautiful but so sad.

Got lots to do before I head off on mat leave, so better crack on and do some work.

Have a lovely day everyone.

xx

mrsZaC · 23/06/2010 09:04

chulita I might be being incredibly dumb but I can't seem lot locate the email.. should it have come through to my normal email account? Anyway don't worry about it, you seem to have it all under wraps and I'll probably just end up getting in the way.

littlemiss I bought a nursing chair from the glasgow pram centre (on sale for £99 ) it was a few weeks ago and I think they are sold out now, it was a bonito bebe I think. Anyways I LOVE it, I was really dubious about buying one as I find them quite ugly but totally changed my mind when I sat it one - soooooo comfy, can't wait to use it for baby. So in summary I would highly reccomend one - you won't regret it.

Cazzybabs hope you BP comes down soon, I'm sure it will, have you tried any relaxation or yoga - wondering if that might help?

30 wks tomorrow, and only 20 days left at work - woo hoo! x

Chulita · 23/06/2010 09:06

mrsZaC I'll message you on facebook - don't leave me in charge, lol!

I love my nursing chair, don't care what they look like - they're perfect for the job. Trouble is it's in DD's room for night-settling and I'd like it in the lounge now cos the sofa's just not right for this stage of pregnancy!

ElusiveMoose · 23/06/2010 09:29

Does anyone else feel like they're on a total rollercoaster at the moment? Had a rubbish day yesterday - my hip hurt so badly that I could barely walk (please, please don't let me be getting SPD), and I'm pretty sure I've re-cracked my rib (coughing fit accompanied by audible pop ). This morning, though, the hip is feeling much better, and I've just left DS at pre-school without a single tear (in fact, with barely a backward glance ), so I'm feeling very upbeat. I just feel like I'm never sure at the moment whether I'm going to wake up all happy and floaty or feeling like a lumbering, wounded gorgon in a foul mood. Oh well, it keeps DH on his toes .

Right, I'm off to do something useful with my free couple of hours. Blueberries, yay on your mat leave starting today. Incidentally, I predict that this thread will suddenly start getting rather busy once more and more people stop working . That's certainly what happened on my last antenatal thread. This morning I mentioned to DH that I would rather miss having mat leave this time round (given that I'm a SAHM), and he retorted that I'm on permanent maternity leave these days anyway. Lucky it's a happy floaty day or I probably would have thumped him .

LittleMissSnowShine · 23/06/2010 10:02

ElusiveMoose thump him anyway and burn his dinner

Thanks for all the nursing chair advice from everyone - def telling DH that we're ordering one and the bed settee will just have to stay in its current home in the box room. Then when it arrives I'll get DH and FiL on the case of getting the drills, hammers and screwdrivers out and putting together the cot, the chair and putting up some shelves for me all in one fell swoop!!

Trying to get my PhD thesis finished in next 3/4 weeks, def before baby arrives. It's hell!!

ElusiveMoose · 23/06/2010 10:25

Good thought, littlemiss. What's your phd in?

mrsZaC · 23/06/2010 10:37

Gotit chulita thanks, don't worry I'll help out

elusive glad your having a good day today, despite your DH trying to ruin it - yesterday was a funny day for me aswell, think it just must be a few hormones flying about..?

got to the doc last night about my toe and got a yucky infection, lots of antibiotics to take so hopefully will be on the mend soon. Really annoying since otherwise my body seems to be coping well at the moment - ach well if it's not one thing it's another!

marzipananimal · 23/06/2010 10:50

elusive i know what you mean about the different moods, a couple of weeks ago i was convinced i had antenatal depression (moped around the house crying for no reason) but the next day i was quite cheerful! Pleased to say that i have more cheerful than depressed days but it's totally unpredictable!

Hope your toe infection clears up quickly mrszac

So glad caz told us her birth story, so so sad but very moving as well

Chulita · 23/06/2010 11:53

pample are you on facebook? I could message you the details if you want.

For anyone else the Paypal email address for anyone wanting to give something for CazEm and little Belle is: [email protected]

I believe you can go into paypal and type the email address in under the 'send money' tab. Make sure you change the tab underneath to 'personal' though or Paypal will charge for the transaction.

I've got another hospital appt this arvo to check LO's heartrate, thing is it's at 3pm. I couldn't get it at any other time but I'm a bit gutted to miss the match, missed Friday's one having a meal out with DH! I might bore the other ladies in there and have the radio on - I deffo inherited my dad's footie streak

LittleMissSnowShine · 23/06/2010 12:37

Chulita - I've ended up watching SO much of this world cup, despite the fact I usually hate football and Ireland didn't even qualify (don't get me started on Thierry Henry and his va va voom lol) just because it's hot outside, DH always has it on the TV and I'm just too lazy to get off the sofa and do anything else!! Sorry to hear you're missing the match tho, hopefully you'll be able to get radio reception in the hospital And hope LO's heart rate is what it should be...

ElusiveMoose - Northern Irish writing over last 25 years - everything from horror to sci-fi and from lit fiction to chick lit. I've kind of enjoyed doing it but also feeling very glad the end is now in sight. Only some corrections to make, references to check and a 5000 word introduction to write and I can declare myself officially on maternity leave til December!!

babyducky · 23/06/2010 13:32

afternoon everyone

lovely & hot here again, I'm not feeling too fed up with it... yet!

Put the paddling pool up for DS yesterday, I sat by the side with my feet in it & DS poured water all over my legs for me, was lovely!

Well done chulita for doing the paypal, I will send some money later, might need DH to help me

Just saw your new pics on fb mrszac, your bump is so neat! I look like a whale! lol!

ElusiveMoose · 23/06/2010 13:53

I just can't get excited about the World Cup this time round, though I suspect I'll get more into it if England get past the group stage. Snowshine I do feel very sorry for Ireland over the handball thing, but I'm afraid it doesn't change the fact that I find Thierry Henry one of the sexiest men on earth . Ooh, and your PhD topic sounds so interesting (though how you've got the energy to work at the moment is beyond me).

I'm off to Kwik Fit this afternoon to pay them a grand to mend my bloody car. Funnily enough they didn't have a lot of work on this afternoon .

Thanks for setting up the Paypal account - I'll sort out a donation later.

driedapricots · 23/06/2010 13:54

babyduck me and dd did exactly the same with the paddling pool yesterday..it's bliss isn't it?! sadly i'm in the office at work today. i don't seem to suffer with the heat too much either yet - yes if walking around in it, but i think i'd be like that if i wasn't pregnant and also walking is generally a hassle these days anyway due to being the size of a house

LCRLCR · 23/06/2010 14:27

Wow just read poor Caz's story, I still can't get my head round what's happened to them, so so sad. I've made a donation via Paypal it's only little.

I am off to Glasto tomorrow, whew in THIS heat...!

take care ladies of yourselves and your precious bundles xx

bouncingblueberries · 23/06/2010 14:44

Thanks for organising the paypal account chulita - just sent a small donation but forgot to add a message as to who it was from (doh!) my initials are SLM if you need to keep a check.

Just had a lovely wee presentation from my boss - a lovely M&P baby gym and some very generous LIberty vouchers. Ging to use the vouchers to buy some yummy cowshed products and pamper myself!

LCRLCR I am in awe of the fact that you are off to Glastonbury! I couldn't even contemplate going to a concert right now, let alone a festival (lazy uncultured cow emoticon!). Hope you have a brilliant time!

LCRLCR · 23/06/2010 15:15

Back again with a more serious question - my sister-in-law has been scaring me with Streo B horror stories - do any of you intend to get yourselves tested privately, I understand testing not available on the NHS?

sparkle101 · 23/06/2010 16:07

Good afternoon ladies. Hope everyone is well and not too hot - we went shopping for pram today and gave up very quickly as the heat got to me.... or was that because DH wanted to go and watch the football.

Have been reading over the past few days your conversations about nursing chairs. Being my first baby am not up with what I need, are they an essential / a really good idea / not required. We have a chair from Ikea which rocks a bit (not a rocking chair - it just moves) which we were going to use but Smyths have got big baby event going on and there is a chair and stool for £100 - was wondering whether it is a worthwhile investment whether I'd be spending a lot of time on it?

Would appreciate your advice.

Many thanks!

LittleMissSnowShine · 23/06/2010 16:25

sparkle101 i'm in same boat as you but i think from having read what people have to say about it, you need to think about whether the chair you have is going to be comfy enough to spend hours and hours in, esp in the wee hours of the morning, when you'll be feeling a bit cranky and fragile yourself, doing night feeds. my ikea sofa bed does not fit the bill at all!!

but your chair might be perfectly comfy and well supported tho - maybe you could try sitting in it, holding a pillow in various positions, to see how well supported your back is? and how comfy you feel in general...

LCRLCR enjoy glasto, v jealous! we were intending to go this year and changed our plans because of me being fairly heavily pregnant...but we're in n.ireland so it was really more the thought of the journey to get there and back when combined with the whole festival experience which overwhelmed me. if it was only a matter of getting in the car and getting DH to drive us there, i'd be at Glasto in a heartbeat!!
