Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mampam · 12/05/2010 14:51

greensnail glad you've finally got a date for your induction.

I'm into the final 2 weeks now (13 days and counting) and tbh feel like crap. The pain has come to a head now so I know this last 2 weeks is going to go soooooo blimmin slowly.

Barbeasty · 12/05/2010 15:11

Wow, I'm slightly jealous of everyone with fixed dates! It's all a big unknown here. It's definitely started to hit home how close it all is though, especially as I am now home from my last day at work this year.

Not got my bag packed yet, but I am going shopping tomorrow to get the last bits and pieces (most of it!)

I've been quite lucky pain wise (tough wood!) but I do have a patch on one side of the bump which sometimes feels like sunburn (can't remember who said that earlier, but it describes it perfectly, thanks!).

LaTrucha · 12/05/2010 15:18

I'm glad other people are having the same kind of worries and fed upness as I am. Feeling very sorry for myself today which is unlike me. I was up in the night with DD it feels like all night, DH has been working like a demon and could do nothing but sulk about the price of car insurance last night and whether DD should go to nursery this morning. Oh well, the details are insignificant in and of themselves but it feels like a dozen things aren't right.

Ho hum.

We moved house when I was 37 weeks pregnant last time. I honestly can't remember much about it TBH btu I do know I didn't do much! It was fine. Dh recovered

whenwillisleepagain · 12/05/2010 17:56

roundabout sorry you're having a down day

playftse know what you mean about mat leave blues - I have delayed them because although I have stopped work for my employer, I also do some freelance, which is local to where I live and flexible, tomorrow really is my last day of doing bits of that though - but then I only have till Tuesday night and I'm off to hospital for cs the next day!

All go here with bag packing. Yet another false alarm on Monday - I do like the MW I see at GP surgery, but I realised early on Monday that my pjs were soggy with something... not happened during this pg so far, and as I had MW appt anyway, asked her advice. She pronounced that baby seemed to be on its way and sent me to hospital for further assessment. Nothing doing, probably a bit of wee, but at least I know the local minicab firm seem to be reliable. Having read all the posts about what needs to go in the bag(s) ordered big knickers and front buttoning nightie. The nightie has arrived, vile shade of grey, so as well as feeling like a hippo, I will look like one too.

meggymegmegs · 12/05/2010 19:07

Oooh greensnail all being well our babies are going to have the same birthday! I am now officially booked in for an elective c-section on 26th May after a scan on Monday confirmed that I have placenta praevia which is jutting up to my cervix and stopping the baby engaging. I was expecting it after my scan a couple of weeks ago, but it's mad that it's now all so real and just 2 weeks to go.

Sunshineday congratulations on the birth of Faye and fingers crossed she'll be home where she belongs very soon. Faye is a beautiful name, you have great taste!

Sorry to buck the trend, but I also started mat leave this week and am loving it so far! I was warned by my MW sister that the consultant was considering keeping me in hospital in the run up to the c-section, so me and DH had been rushing to get everything organised before Monday's appointment. Luckily he let me come home which means I have 2 weeks of very little to do apart from relaxing, long lie-ins, watching films and catching up with friends and family - bliss . I am making the most of it because if I ever have another baby I know it won't exactly be like this with a little DC running about!

playftse Sod the lady-garden and go to aquanatal and enjoy yourself, if you wear a towel and then slip in quickly I'm sure no one would notice .

WhenWillI Am with you on the horrendous nighty front. Why are all the button-down nighties so disgusting?! DH put it very succintley when he said that they were all designed for either over-65's or Waynetta Slob. Sexy! I ended up finding some okish ones from Peacocks. They were only £4 each and they had black (which I thought might hide any unfortunate leaks...), so if anyone's still looking, may be worth checking out as the best of a bad bunch and cheap too if like me you intent never to use them again!

Welcome to all the new people (too many to list individually sorry), and I'm really sorry to all you ladies feeling rubbish.

greensnail · 12/05/2010 21:01

Sorry everyone, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to add to the general feeling of fedup-ness on this thread. After my excitement yesterday to get a date for induction set, I had a horrible night's sleep and have been feeling really tired and unwell today. Had a phone call from midwife this evening saying bloods are worse again so I need to increase my medication yet again. So glad I only have 2 weeks to go, but agree with you mampam can see these next 2 weeks really dragging.

meggymegmegs lovely to have someone to share the date with and glad you're enjoying your maternity leave. Definitely make the most of this time to relax while you can.

earlyonemorning that sounds like very useful information

playftse I have a wedge pillow from mothercare which i generally use at night to support the bump. Its only small but does the job perfectly for me and is easy to move with me when I turn over etc. Sometimes use my widgey pillow at night for support instead, with the lower part between my legs and the upper part under the bump. This works well for me but I'm quite short so can't comment on whether it would be ok for a taller person.

roundabout I'm glad I'm not the only one to have such a strange dream. FWIW I overheard a doctor telling another lady a few weeks ago not to use the applicator if you're using a pessary when you're pregnant as its safer to just use your finger to make sure you don't push it too far in.

I'm also worrying about the plans for DD when I'm in labour. She'll be going to my parents' house, which is fine as she's used to staying there one night without me or DH, but am concerned about the fact she'll be there at least 2 nights, possibly 3. Seems like a long time for her to be away from me and I'm worried about what she'll be thinking has happened to her parents. Am also worried about how I'll cope with being away from her for so long. The more rational side of me says she'll be too busy being spoilt rotten to worry about where I am, and I'm sure I'll have plenty going on to keep my mind off missing her too much, but am finding it hard to be rational about it all.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/05/2010 21:10

meggy - black might hide lower leaks, but breast milk patches will show up terribly on it!
I got nighties from Asda last time, which of course I'm still wearing as still feeding. And from mothercare the time before. I did spot some in M&S recently too, although I didn't pay much attention to how nice they were.

at your dh Ginger - that's the sort of thing that my dh would know and say .

I spent the day in Kiddicare's enormous store today, but surprisingly bought very little - just a change mat (threw one of ours away as badly ripped), some washable breast pads, and a car seat (so that we have one for each car for ds for the time being, and then when new baby is old enough it will have the second one).
Did see a nice big change bag that we nearly bought, but didn't want to spend on non-essentials with dh having no work. However, had it confirmed tonight that he will start work again early next month, so might just order one in the next few days anyway!
Wanted to get a fairly cheap portable change station for downstairs too, but they only had 1 type there, which we weren't too keen on.

greensnail · 12/05/2010 21:24

Oh, how sad am I? I'd love to go to the kiddicare store and am hugely . Which change bag was is CSWS? I've bought one from tk maxx which I quite like, but am still keeping an eye out for the perfect bag .

Glad I'm not the only one who has never stopped wearing their mat nighties. My faves are from mothercare and are quite nice if a little tent-like! My mum bought me some M&S ones which are extremely granny-like in their style, but lovely and lightweight which i think will be great for a summer baby. I remember being absolutely roasting hot for a couple of months after DD was born and she was a december baby, so goodness knows what I'll be like this time.

meggymegmegs · 12/05/2010 21:48

Ahh csws I didn't think about milky patches , oh well, I'll see how I get on. How did the spelt flour cakes from the book turn out?

greensnail I am about the Kiddicare store visit too, I imagine it to be like Willy Wonka's factory for mums!! Much too far for a northerner like me to visit though unfortunately, so I'll never get see the umpalumpas pushing prams around in RL .

Oh and I have been having crazy dreams too. Dream 1 - I had triplets and left them in a rucksack all day until someone came over to visit and reminded me about them . Dream 2 - they left a scalpel in me after my c-section . Both tapping into my deep routed fears about being a bad mum and scary operation I suspect, but not going to read too much into them for fear of going barmy!

LaTrucha · 12/05/2010 22:01

Ok. If we're having a moan-fest, i'll join in. Well, I have NOT been a good mum this afetrnoon and I know it. Satisfactory at best.

I'm exhausted because she was up three times in the night and then I took her into bed because I couldn't face getting up again so didn't sleep very well. I have a headache, my back hurts, my bump seems to hurt all over but much more at the bottom near my scar, I have acid indigestion and a cold.

DD had a few stories, more Ceebeebies (which didn't interst her much), very little playing and a tired mummy telling her to stop saying 'Mama! Mama! Mama!' with increasing levels of frustration on both sides.

Only 33 weeks today too...

Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day. Scan at 10.45 - cross your fingers for me!

On fears for toddler DC's while newborn is arriving - I am concerned too. I have plans for where DD is to go when I go to hospital which DD approves of, and back up plans, which she apporves of. I am also pretty convinced that as soon as I go into labour I'm going to be so over-emotional that I'll be sobbing for DH to stay at home and look after her himself and go it alone.

All I am really worried about is being taken into hosptial early of having to stay in for ages afterwards like last time. I guess we will cross that bridge if and when we come to it.

Maybe you could cross your toes for me too?

CSWS - you didn't buy anything because you know you have a really cool pram coming Glad DH has work arriving soon.

Still undecided on pram front and am trying to make myself stay that way until baby is here. Am bidding on one on ebay though. Good plan LaTrucha: say one thing and do another

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/05/2010 22:06

LaT.

It was this change bag. Have just ordered one before linking so that no-one gets the last ones (were 2 left, now only 1!). It comes in green floral as well as the blue.

Forgot, we did also buy a new crib mattress, but their moses basket ones were slightly too small, so didn't get, as don't want gaps round the edge. Will have to get to a M&P for one.

greensnail · 12/05/2010 22:16

Hope I didn't push you into ordering CSWS. Its lovely and I can really see you with it, but not really me so the search goes on

Crossing everything for you LaT

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/05/2010 22:25

you just saved me from dithering greensnail, which is no bad thing!

cocodomingo · 13/05/2010 00:57

Hello all..Hope you don't mind another latecomer. I'm due June 26th with baby #1, I'm 26 . I've just joined as a member having finished work last week so will be a bit behind in the Mumsnet lingo but i look forward to catching up quickly.

imkeepingmum · 13/05/2010 09:32

Hello cocodomingo I'm also due on 26th June but don't finish work for a nother two weeks (can't come soon enough though!)

Saucepanman · 13/05/2010 10:18

Morning all! I am having a giant baby, had scan yesterday at 36 weeks- by scan am due this Sat and baby weighs 7lb! No wonder I cannot walk, and v good job am not pushing this baby out! Section a week on monday, still craploads to do

NotGrownUpEnough · 13/05/2010 10:28

Just realised the only thing i probably haven't bought now (or so i think) is a change bag. Any tips for what i should look for?

roundabout1 · 13/05/2010 11:09

Not grown up enough - I've not got a change bag either. Had a lovely m & P one last time but had to throw it away as the cat weed all over it for some reason. Ended up just using a normal bag with a travel change mat inside, realised I didn't really need all the compartments etc as long as had empty bags to put soiled items in.

saucepanman - lol at the giant baby. As you say at least you don't have to push it out. People are scaring me saying how big I am, including mw. dd weighed 9lb which I know compared to some of you ladies isn't huge but felt big enough at the time! Am worried now that this one will be bigger.

I too am worried will miss dd terribly when in hospital. Last time I was in a week after & hated it, the thought of that long without dd would feel like a lifetime. She's 4 so old enough to understand whats going on but is a worrier so is getting upset a bit about it already.

greensnail - I ended up using a finger instead rather than the applicator, not sure if it went high enough though. Last night I dreamt I went into hospital thinking I was in labour & turned out to be chronic wind instead, really hope that one doesn't come true!

Hope everyone is having a better day today. I am shattered as slept little last night as my bump was so painful when I slept on either side which meant even more tossing & turning than usual. It really is a miracle that dp is still sharing the bed with me!

herewegrow · 13/05/2010 11:21

I too have a cold and was up with DD in the night. I'm like a waddling zombie at work today.

Also have our house on the market and am finding it a struggle to keep everything tidy for viewings.

Snap re worrying about DD while I go in to have this baby. Who will have her, will they get to us in time, will she be good for them blah blah blah.

I keep waking in the night worrying about all sorts of silly things too (rather than important stuff) which is rather annoying especially when I cannot find a solution and therefore stay awake longer with even more worrying.

On the positive side have my 34wk appointment yesterday and all is well. Bought a new carseat for the baby too.

cocodomingo I'm also due on 26th June but also have another 2 and half weeks to go until I start Mat leave and it cannot come soon enough!!!

Sending happy vibes to the fed up, just focus on the wonderful little bundles we will all soon have {grin}

LaTrucha · 13/05/2010 12:59

Thansk for corssing htings. Scan was fine. Baby boy spot on for growth, although this time the fluid has decreased. Apparently nothing to worry about and we'll see at next scan in a month. I cannot believe I'll still be pregnant in a month!

HAd a horrendous night with DD. I'd taken her into my bed the night before because she was ill andI wanted to keep an eye on her, so of course last night she thought she could come in too. She started demanding it at 2.30 and finally gave in at about 5am She's a very determined soul, which I guess is good but I do need to be very firm with her which is very difficult - as all of you with toddlers know! Well, we wouldn't want them to be too compliant would we.

DD doing poo signs so will eb back soon!

RnB · 13/05/2010 13:07

Hello ladies. Feeling moany and grumbly at nearly 38 weeks

I feel like I've got feet in my BACK and my legs ache and I just want it out now!

On a positive note the birth pool is all up and ready in the spare room, and I've (pretty much) got everything I need. Just a waiting game now.

Haven't had a chance to catch up on whole thread but I hope everyone is ok and coping

LaTrucha · 13/05/2010 13:30

Welcome Cocodomingo!

I'm glad all the scans seem to be going well. I forgot to look at how much they think the baby weighs but he seems to be spot on average. I was on my back for nearly twenty minutes as we had a trainee and I was pretty dizzy by the time I came out.

The baby was doing little sucking movements with his lips. Adorable!

greensnail · 13/05/2010 14:03

at poo signs LaT. DD just did her first ever poo in a potty so have been jumping around like a mad thing celebrating with her. Think all my neighbours must have heard the fuss I was making of her, but no one's been round to congratulate yet

Glad your scan went well LaT.

saucepanman my DD was 7lb9 when born at 36+6. This one is being given an extra 8 days to cook so I hope he/she doesn't do too much growing in that time as, all being well, I will be pushing it out myself!

I'm feeling loads better today that yesterday as I had a reasonable night's sleep. Have had DD's last swimming lesson this morning, which felt like a bit of a milestone. All her swimming friends will be moving up to the toddler swimming class next week, but we can't continue with them as we'll be too busy with the new baby. To be honest finishing swimming felt more significant than finishing work a few weeks ago!

shipsladyg · 13/05/2010 16:51

Crumbs - the first of my NCT class has just had her baby.... Gulp! Starting to get real now.
