OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
shipsladyg · 11/05/2010 11:47

gizmo I've got some shower curtains from the pound shop for our home birth. My DH loves his groundsheets/tarps (he's a bit of an outdoors guy) and I didn't want him to feel that we were "ruining" them.

AlwaysHopeful · 11/05/2010 11:51

Saucepanman poor DH and poor you. I do feel for the men folk when random tears strike, but then I think - "I'm the one crying, you're meant to be feeling sorry for me, not the other way around!". I'm having far fewer tears now I'm off work. My elephant ankles have gone too, now that I'm not stuck at my desk all day. If it's not too nosy a question, what goodies are mothercare bringing for you?

Glad the scan went well gizmo

GibberingGinger · 11/05/2010 12:07

saucepanman, Sorry to hear you are low. I think its a bit inevitable at this stage. Hopefully some retail therapy from mothercare will help. I have the health visitor coming in 20 minutes - probably cause I sobbed my way through my last midwife appt a fortnight ago and she's reported me as loopy to the health visitor! Have you had a chance to meet/talk things over with your health visitor yet? It might be worth mentioning to your midwife that you would like to meet her sooner rather than later - if you get a good one (and there are a lot of rubbish health visitors out there) they can be a great help and support emotionally

Have midwife appt this afternoon (34wks) for usual blood pressure and urine. But am hoping to have a good chat about due dates/elective sections dates - ie when this pregnancy might be over, cause I'm pretty fed up with it all now!

MrsAlwaysRight · 11/05/2010 12:30

Hi Ladies,

Congratulations sunshineday on the arrival of Faye

Welcome to the new joiners.

I've finished work now and have so much stuff to sort out I don't really know where to begin. DD at nursery this afternoon and all day tomorrow so will hopefully be able to crack on with it.

Haven't started thinking about hospital bag as have more pressing things to do - get spare room sorted for DD to move into, to free up cot etc.

Someone cloned my credit card details so card has been cancelled and have to wait for a replacement, so have had to put my internet retail therapy plans on hold. DH probably secretly pleased!

For those ladies whose babies are breech at the mo if they don't move have you considered Moxibustion? They burn some kind of herb over your little toe to some how make the baby turn. Don't understand how it works but might be worth considering.

greensnail · 11/05/2010 13:40

I'm so excited, I've got a date set for my induction - 26th May. Only 15 days to go . Am now trying to work out what I need to in the next 2 weeks to get ready, but I think I'm basically done. Just need to do a bit more cooking really, but we only have a small freezer so there's a limit to how much I can do. I suppose I should go through the freezer and get rid of some UFO's (unidentified frozen objects) to make space. Maybe I should eat all the ice cream too!

Sorry to everyone not feeling so good. Hope things start to improve for you all soon. earlyonemorning is there anyone you could ask where exactly you should be looking on the web? Have you tried the maternity section of your local NHS trust website - I know mine has a video tour of the delivery suite on it.

Boobz · 11/05/2010 13:56

Hi everyone... yet another original poster who dropped off the radar for months and is now back for the home straight! I hope you all don't mind... it's been a crazy old time looking after DD (Penny, 13 mo) on my own as DH has made his move to Sudan where I will be joining him with Pen and baby come August (he is back for birth however - or in theory he is, as long as baby doesn't come too early!)

Nothing much to report - am 36 weeks tomorrow, feeling good, if tired, and have been on mat leave for a while now so nothing like that to look forward to.

I hope to be on here more often now the end is in sight, and get to know you all a bit better. For any home birthers, do pop in to the home birth thread as it's a little quiet over there at the moment!

MrsAlwaysRight · 11/05/2010 14:34

OMG greensnail can't believe you are going to meet baby so soon!! Sounds like eating all the ice cream is an excellent plan

AlwaysHopeful · 11/05/2010 15:24

Yey greensnail! It must be so fantastic to know when you're going to see your baby. I'm just back from midwife and she's said everything's in order, so I don't need to see her again until I'm 39 weeks Yikes!!

She said as calmly as she was talking about the weather: "We might see you then, or you might have had baby by then. Take care of yourself." I know it's a waiting game, but sometimes with all the uncertainty and "I'm sick of looking like the side of a house and feeling exhausted" it would be lovely to know when the baby is going to arrive.

AlwaysHopeful · 11/05/2010 15:28

Please can I have some non-baby-related advice, ladies?

I'd like to go to the pictures before baby comes. Anyone seen anything fun in the past couple of weeks? I haven't been to the pictures for months, so am completely out of the loop on what's likely to be any good - apart from the icecream stall

Also, my mission for my maternity leave (apart from the obvious) is to figure out what Face Book is all about. I've never been on it. Anyone got any hot tips on how to get the most out of it or how to prevent the whole world knowining about stuff I don't want them to see? I haven't even got much of a profile on MN, so I've a long way to go!!

playftseforme · 11/05/2010 16:41

Always hopeful how about the new Robin Hood movie??, think it's out this week - I would be booking tickets if i vaguely thought I could sit still/stay awake long enough/not go to the loo three times

Thanks for the support on feeling isolated on mat leave. Rang some of my colleagues for a chat this morning . Spoke to the organiser of the next twins bumps & babes this afternoon which made me feel lots better. Would love to go to acqua natal class but am too embarrassed about ladygarden status. Second cot arrived this afternoon, and I've been doing some more sorting out, so at least I've had a bit more of a productive day, not moping around like yesterday.

Boobz hope your DH makes it home in time, how much of a margin of error is he allowing himself?

fillybuster · 11/05/2010 16:49

Just checking in to say 'hi' really quickly (and welcome back to all the new oldies, and welcome to the newbies too!)

I spoke to my lovely midwife today to update her on the scan results from last Friday; must admit I am utterly in shock at having her direct mobile number as I've never been able to contact an individual mw before...although none of my friends seem very surprised. Anyway, she was very reassuring about the size and has suggested we discuss 'labour options' after the next scan if I'm still concerned

Knackered today, probably a combination of working hard, dh starting new job and dcs not sleeping well...and multiple night time toilet trips! I was up the BT Tower for a meeting today, and had lunch in the revolving restaurant, which is always fun (the views are great) but leaves me slightly queasy from the motion sickness. Can't work out if its worse this time from the pregnancy or was worse last time when I was there for a very alcoholic xmas dinner . Not good, at any rate...

Going to try to finish up my working day at home really fast now so that I can grab 30 mins kip before taking over the childcare....am unbelievabably tired....yaaawn....

perkster · 11/05/2010 17:40

Alwayshopeful We went and saw Ironman 2 the other week and I really enjoyed it, even though it's not something I would usually choose. Robert Downey Jr is very easy on the eye which helps and it's not too long, important when thinking of loo breaks and being comfy!

goodname · 11/05/2010 18:16

Hi everyone, its been extremely busy on here since the new thread started, cant keep up again.
Had a busy last few days, looked after my nieces for the day on Thursday and Friday, bought a new car and had 12 people for dinner on saturday, and went out for dinner on sunday. Think I might have overdone it a little as when I went for my midwife checkup on Monday morning, my blood pressure was way up (its always been v low before) so I got shipped off to the hospital to be monitored for the day. Was all fine in the end so I just have to go back to midwifes next monday to get checked. Quite a waste of a day and had loads of work to catch up on today but at least I got to lie on a bed reading a book all day yesterday . It did motivate me to start packing my hospital bag though I have had to stop as it is now full, must get hold of another one soon.
The hospital I am going to dont do tours of the labour suite either so I also have no idea whats it like. Had a look at the NHS trust website but its very basic and has no video tours of anything.
Have so far only made 4 portions of curry for the freezer (and thats only because I always over cater and made far too much dinner on sat night). I really wanted to fill the freezer but cant quite find the energy, will prob wait until i start mat leave but am planning on working up to due date (part time) so dont know how much time i will have left.
Cant think of any good films out recently, keep thinking about going to cinema but all the films have seemed quite dire recently.

MrsAlwaysRight · 11/05/2010 18:45

I'm hoping to see Sex and the City 2 before baby appears!

woofie · 11/05/2010 20:15

sunshineday - huge congratulations on the arrival of little Faye How brilliant to have the first thread baby, though I'm sure the last few weeks have been incredibly tough. Fingers crossed she's home with you v soon.

greensnail and mampam - great to have your dates confirmed, so there'll be some more baybeeez in the next couple of weeks

Well having prided myself on a relatively emotionally balanced pregnancy thus far, I had a v wobbly episode yesterday... DH has tonsillitis, and his tossing and turning woke me up at 3am Sunday night, after which I couldn't get to sleep again. Ds bounced in at 6.30, and I just started weeping Was sooo tired, and had nearly a full week at work ahead, including a big and stressful presentation to give tomorrow afternoon, and I just felt I'd had enough. Ds was very cute trying to comfort me, but eventually said "Mummy, stop crying now, it's annoying me" After a good night's sleep last night I feel fine again, and ds seems to have forgiven me my emotional outburst, but I sympathise on the wildly fluctuating moods saucepanman

Have my 36 week check at the midwife-led unit on Friday - I'm really looking forward to seeing the place again. (In my mind, staying there's going to be like a free spa break - though will admittedly have to go through labour first. But in comparison to the house move, building works, getting ds to preschool each morning... Think the midwives may have their work cut out getting me to leave)

Updated list, including our first arrival

MonkeyMargot · 11/05/2010 20:36

hi all. Just a quick whinge from me...
another one here fed up with being PG. But then I keep thinking, it's only going to get harder, not easier, once the twins are here...
I am so huge, comically heavy and sleeping terribly. Last night Twin B started turning and it was excruciatingly painful. He/she (I suspect a he as is always kicking me in ribs) has turned about 4 times so far.

Haven't done any batch cooking or packed bag. Or ordered buggy. But have bought some new PJs, Lansinoh cream and pads. Feel weepy tonight and DH getting on my wick.

Our house is still on the market and keeping it tidy for viewings is a huge chore.

Enough whinging. playftse not sure whereabouts in London you are, but I'm west and would be happy to get together with our twins if you are up for it?

Boobz · 11/05/2010 20:46

playftseforme -- DH is coming back tomorrow for a holiday to France which is from this Friday for 8 days, so will be 37+3 by the time we get back. He then leaves on the 24th of May and comes back on June 4th, and I am due on the 9th. So as long as baby doesn't come between the 24th and the 4th, we'll be fine!

GULP.

greensnail · 11/05/2010 21:22

You're very brave having the house on the market at the moment monkeymargot. I insisted ours was taken off until after the baby arrives as I just couldn't cope with the stress of trying to keep it tidy. A neighbour has actually shown interest in buying our place now anyway, so I'm hoping that will come off and we won't need to put it back on the market again!

I had a bit of a shock at how big I must be today. I was chatting to a lady at clinic who I thought looked massive and must be at least 40 weeks, turned out she was only a couple of days further along than me and said "yes, i thought we looked about the same size". I was really shocked that my bump must be as big as hers, but when I told DH this story he just asked me if i'd looked in the mirror lately .

Also, just remembered a dream I had last night which was pretty shocking. I had gone into hospital to be induced, but they couldn't do it as they couldn't find my vagina . I don't think it was an overgrown ladygarden issue though, they just literally couldn't find it! Very worrying, but I'm fairly certain i'd be able to point them in the right direction if they have that problem when I go in to have this baby

madamefreckle · 11/05/2010 22:39

LOL greensnail! Also v. exciting about your date being set!

Blimey Boobz - That is cutting it a bit fine! You need to look up some tips on delaying labour (if they exist!)

I'm feeling pants - got a horrid cold - just want to feel 100% (well, as 100%ish as possible)before the baby arrives. Got a scan on Thurs to check position and growth as m/w not sure of anything!

Hospital bag still not packed and I'm drowning in sacks and sacks of clothes...ds's old clothes which need sorting into ages and sell/keep in case boy/unisex/etc etc. I'm never going to be ready for this baby...and as for 'batch cooking' - PAH!

j0807bump · 11/05/2010 22:46

hi again for a quick one. as said earlier still new to MN so only drift, i do want to get more into it the tips i've had are great but i always seen to come on at 10pm and then going to bed after an hour!

i don't know if i'm ok here as got booked in for cs; 8am 28/5 it's only 17 days away and i'm so not ready.

the house is a constant tip as i'm still busing into the next city (25 miles) a few days a week for DSs pre school, tumble tots etc.

when i am at home its enough just getting the usual day to day things done let alone trying to do some house packing. we are moving to above city the last week june, the place we're moving to has hit delay so the four of us have to go into my parents until completion.

almost everything is half done but i'm panicking that i won't get everything done in time with DS needed constant attention at moment, he's so hyper. unsettled i guess is it normal for me to be most worried at how this will all affect him?

sorry ladies. i guess like some others today i'm feeling abit down.

congrats sunshineday on Fayes arrival

playftseforme · 12/05/2010 12:22

j0807bump perfectly legitimate to have c**p days (well, it is in my house anyway ). I'm pretty scared about the whole thing to be frank, and fairly close to the top of the list is how dd is going to be affected. Have been reading up on what I can do to minimise the impact, but there's no getting away from the fact that it is going to be a significant change for everyone in the family. What I'm trying to focus on is the fact that in, say, 6 mths time, we wouldn't be able to imagine life without the new arrivals, and that our family is now closer to how we imagined it. I know deep down that adding to our family is definitely better for us than dd remaining as an only....

Boobz I read somewhere that a glass of wine can put the brakes on the early stages of labour - not sure that that's advice you'd necessarily want to follow though!! Hope baby is happy on the inside and is happy to stay put until your dh returns. You could always do what I threatened to do to my dh (although never had the guts to follow through) - cut up his passport when he comes back for his week in France

Monkeymargot would love to meet up when the twins arrive - I'm just south of Croydon, but I'm sure that between us we can find some middle ground, or I can just hop into the car to you. Think it might be a couple of months before I feel up to braving public transport with the 'mob'!!

Anyone got any recommendations for support pillows for sleeping? I was considering the dream genie, but I'm tall and I read that it wasn't so good for tall people, but normal pillows just aren't that comfortable. I need more under bump support than anything else.

Had midwife appt yesterday and really hoped to speak to consultant as well but he only deigned to stick his head round the door and say you don't really need me and dissappeared again. I know there wasn't anything specific he needed to dicuss with me, but for consulatant led care I've seen him once in 36 weeks!

However the aim of the appointment was achieved, I have a date for a c-section. 7th June. Called it D-day to DH but he anally pointed out that the D-day landing were 6th June. He's such a geek.

THough that is 4 weeks away and at the moment I'm having all sorts of cramps/twinges etc. So babies might arrive earlier. They reckon I have an irritated uterus. Which means that there are irregular contractions and stuff going on, but the cervix is still long and closed and babies very high up under my ribs so not going to go into labour any time soon. Probably means I just need to rest more. The rest of me is pretty irritated too (itchy skin/grumpy mood) so I'm not surprised my uterus is joining in!

Gosh some of you ladies have so much on your plate, what with working, houses being up for sale, twins, partners away etc. I have none of those things but feeling very down in the dumps today, so am obvioulsy a bit pathetic! Felt bad yesterday, lightheaded & absolutely shattered. I suffer with an inner ear/balance condition so regularly suffer with dizziness & vertigo etc. Think this was baby induced though as didn't develop into full blown spinning. Just got me worrying how I'm going to cope in labour if my vertigo symptoms act up, just getting to the hospital itself would be a nightmare let alone everything else. I am border line anemic & have been taken an iron supplement & my blood pressure is ok - on the low side but it always is so don't really know whats up but feeling less lightheaded today. Started panicking about the birth big time last night, seems so complicated this time round, needing to find someone to care for dd (4) have a few people lined up, my friend will be available in the night & grandparents (in laws) are ok to do day time but mil suffers with dementia so can't really do anymore than do school drop off & pick up etc. Other people have offered but they have so much on their plate I'd feel bad taking them up unless an emergency, & dd has never stayed away from home before.
Greensnail - I had a similar dream a few nights ago, know what caused it though, I was trying to use a canesten pessary - tmi warning! - & couldn't insert it far enough, not sure if it was because I was a bit nervous doing it or what. Afterwards panicking if I couldn't get the applicator in how on earth is a supposedly large baby's head going to come out

playftseforme In the NCT catalogue there's a sort of U-shaped pillow - sort of like a skateboard ramp.... You lay in the middle and the arms of the U support your bump and back - and you don't need to move it when you roll over to the other side. I've not used it but a friend says hers is great.

woofie good luck with the house move. With any luck you might be able to time it so that you're on the "spa break" whilst everyone else moves house for you!!! My sister managed that with DD2.
