Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsDmamee · 22/05/2010 10:28

Morning ALL.

Hope everyone is good, its quite warm here and im feeling so over this whole pg thing now, unfortunately with 5 weeks to go not much i can do other than moan

mampam good luck for tuesday and your CS. you probably wont sleep much night before as you'll want it to be tuesday already.

I had an emcs last time and it was over and done with in a few mins i didnt realise the baby was out until i heard a cry and then wondered hmm whos baby is that.

my own SPD doesnt seem to be getting any worse just staying the same, quite painful at night and walking is just pointless. Im like a hamster in a cage at this stage now.

meggy have a lovely day bringing baby jimmy home today

not grown up never tried raspberry leaf tea or capsules at all.
My dc1 arrived on due date and dc2 5 days over, i just cried instead of trying anything

Saucepanman · 22/05/2010 11:36

2 days to go (incase you had missed it!), just took ds to a beavers campsite activity day and inadvertently ended up walking up a very rocky uneven hill for a mile! Ironic, given I have not done the school run for 2 weeks due to being unable to walk.

V V hot and just cried because DH went the wrong way home, loving the hormones! Still loads to do.....

gizmo hugs congrats, but sorry to hear about your unpleasant experiences. Do complain, and loudly. Any name yet?

j0807bump · 22/05/2010 12:30

well done gizmo and welcome to you little girl. at problems you had but you don't strike me as the type to take it lying down

glad to hear meggy and jimmy are going good still

perkster i think the rundown/mouth ulcer explanation might be the best but i've been getting these weird numb/cold patches on my thigh and bum area feels abit like after you rub deep heat or similar

no idea what it is but i keep having to check i havn't wet myself!

someone is still determined to wriggle about even with the distinct lack of space inside me now and i keep thinking she is going to fall out with every stabbing pain down there

cs fri if we hold out (39 weeks) don't know how i managed to go to 40+15 with DS born in august, too big and too hot!

hope everyone has a lovely day, think we'll get the paddling pool out later

GibberingGinger · 22/05/2010 13:01

Hope I've got the details right. If people want things changed (unfortunately I'm not God or a consultant I can't do anything about bringing due dates forward!) let me know and I'll update in a couple of days time when it sounds like we will definitely have a few new arrivals

NGUE Definitely worth a try with the Raspberry Leaf, don't forget hot curries, bumpy rides, long walks and sex!!
I am sh*tting myself about the CS tbh but I have to say they have done a good job of reassuring me at the hospital and have answered all the questions I've asked them (even the stupid ones ). I'll feel better on the morning once I've spoken to the anaesthetist and hopefully he'll reassure me that I'm not going to drop dead on the operating table (I'm morbid like that!). Like my GP said to me....."Anaesthetist's are fantastic doctors who can work miracles" she was referring to me being worried about having palpitations. I'll be fine, I just want to get it over and done with now.

Thank you to everyone for your well wishes for me on Tuesday.

Good Luck too for Saucepanman on Monday

Waiting for an Argos delivery, a new camera, only a cheap one, as we realised that our camera is broken. We (DH) paid extra to have it delivered on a Saturday. The email came through saying delivery time was between 7am and 3pm, I've just tracked the order and now the delivery time has changed to 7am-6pm . We need to get to the supermarket (can't go on my own), if it doesn't arrive in the next 40 mins I might complain and see if I can get my money back on the delivery, it was £9!!

MonkeyMargot · 22/05/2010 17:38

Many many congrats gizmo on the arrival of your baby girl. I am incredulous about the treatment you received but am sure you will not let it pass. Hope the poor experience isn't hindering the joy of your new baby - I'm sure not! Are you willing to name and shame the hospital on here?

grrr for you mampam and your Argos delivery. what was the point of paying 9 quid for a 7-6pm slot??! grrr...

Best of luck for monday saucepan and also mampam for next week too.

Blimey it's hot here. Know I shouldn't complain but my feet and legs are so incredibly swollen and painful to the touch. Oh woe is me...
hope people aren't suffering too much in the heat!

whenwillisleepagain · 22/05/2010 18:51

hello everyone
came home yesterday with Alice. Born by elective cs at 9.46 on Weds (had great luck to go 1st on list for day) and she was 8lbs 7oz. All doing fine, huge relief to be home. Can post more later but wanted to say how pleased I was with planned cs as I know at least 2 more of you have them next week.

Gizmo - congrats , not had time to study your news proprly but will do so.

gizmo · 22/05/2010 19:20

Hahaha @ GG's 'I'm not God or a consultant' - I'm not quite clear who would be a higher priority at this end of the pregnancy .

Greetings from a v. hot postnatal ward at the Rosie (no air conditioning - naaaaice) where DD - operaing under the pseudonym of 'surprise!' or 'boo!' - and I are currently residing. She was a good enough weight and apgar to dodge SCBU & go directly to the special postnatal ward they have here for babies who need a bit of support, where she seems to be doing v well: feeding quite strongly & with good blood glucose levels. So far no sign of any CMV related problems - she's startling at sudden noises & the paeds are happy with her on first inspection.

Thank you everyone for all your good wishes, outrage and floor cleaning. Mampam, the lady in the bed next to me when I delivered was due her section on Tues - I thought of you 'cos she seemed just as fed up with the process!

Had a long chat yesterday with patient liaison & the senior midwife from the Delivery unit. All very preliminary - they've got to talk to the members of staff present etc etc. But headline is that they are equally baffled about why I wasn't transferred, although there a some plausible guesses to be made: their protocol doesn't allow midwives to do VE's when there is PROM, only doctors, who weren't available. The only doctor who did examine me noted the time of exam (wrongly) as 9 pm when he recorded the cervix as closed & long, so you can see why a midwife at 9.45, faced with me insisting I was in established labour, might be tempted to try & delay me. But the senior midwife agreed that she would probably have admitted me & that they needed to have a serious look at their processes both for assessing labour after PROM, & for handling partners. Actually I'm feeling quite chipper today - although I was raging about it all Thursday night, we're all alive, & I feel I can understand how we got stuck in the hole we were in on Thursday - not malevolence on anyone's part, just being rushed and hemmed in by processes they had no control over.

And hopefully I am now the thread lightening rod for crappy birth experiences - with any luck the rest of you should get whatever birth you want!

Sorry to bang on - that's the downside of sitting on a pstnatal ward with too much time & an iPhone to hand! Meggy, pleased to hear about your progress - hopefully we'll start filling the thread soon with the babies who are meant to be here

gizmo · 22/05/2010 19:25

Oh, congratulations whenwill! and what a good weight...am very jealous of you at home in this lovely weather. I hope you have lots of time to snuggle in the sun with Alice.

fillybuster · 22/05/2010 20:02

Congrats WWISA and welcome baby Alice So glad you're already back home together and hopefully having a lovely time...and what a fab weight

Very relieved to hear you sounding more upbeat Gizmo (and secretly rather impressed at the quality of your typing by iphone!), but I think the happy-hormones are getting to you if you're feeling that forgiving! Quite frankly, the 'processes' are seriously f-ed up if you can end up in the situation you were in (and with your dh being booted out as well!) and Heads Should Roll. But thats just my humble opinion...and I'm still in grumpy overheated swollen bad-mood pregnant hormone stage....

Quite envious of those of you with impending 'end in sight' dates....even though we're not remotely ready here. Somehow, I think we'd cope with an early arrival rather better than I'm coping with the back pain, hugely swollen legs, SPD, heat and prospect of 3 more weeks (albeit without work, thank god).

2 thoughts:

  1. My ankles have now completely disappeared. I normally have very skinny legs, so even when they swell a bit they still look quite normal. They are now at the tree trunk stage and where ankles should be is...well, nothing, just more leg. Right down to my very very very fat and shiny feet. I hate this bit....
  1. Ugh, apparently I can't hold 2 thoughts in my tiny pregnancy brain for more than 3 seconds and have apparently gone blank. Oh yes, that was it: bad mood, hormones, goldfish bowl memory and complete inability to focus on anything. Grrr...

Oh and a 3rd one:

  1. Has anyone else totally outgrown all their maternity clothes? Of course it doesn't help that the weather has suddenly warmed up, but basically nothing fits any more I feel like a beached whale and am really struggling with looking even semi-presentable....desperately want a couple of new vest tops for the heat but determined not to spend money on something for just 3 weeks or so.

On the plus side, the sun is shining (yes, heat less pleasant than normal, but still lovely to see!), the kids had a fab afternoon in the paddling pool and sprinkler, we had a great picnic lunch in the park with lots of friends and dh is doing his best to remain sympathetic despite my keeping him awake all night with bloody awful braxton hicks and multiple loo visits !

Roll on the birth....

NizzyNoodles · 22/05/2010 20:38

Congrats whenwillisleepagain and welcome to the world Alice!

MrsAlwaysRight · 22/05/2010 20:44

Good Luck saucepanman, Mampam and greensnail for your upcoming C/Sections and Inductions. Looking forward to hearing your announcements.

Congratulations whenwillisleepagain on the safe arrival of Alice.

Saucepanman · 22/05/2010 21:00

OMG not-so-D H and I have just had the mother of all rows. I feel shit He has been an arsey twat today, and we still have stuff to do on our list like finish the painting we started- not much. I can obv only do low down stuff. We've had a manic day, long trip to take ds to beavers day camp, and again to pick him up. Swimming for dd, supermarket and we took kids to mcdonalds for tea. This afternoon he had a 45 min nap and a half an hour "toilet break", then when I just offered not to get in the bath but to help with the painting he went ballistic that I expected him to do anything, I apparently am being a bitch and have been snapping at everybody for weeks demanding EVERYTHING is done before the baby. I am particularly crabby at the mo but that's only been really bad imo this last week. I am so upset, told him to get lost if he doesn't like it and I will have this baby on my own, told him not to bother coming which obv he will come. He is now painting the kitchen in a gigantic fucking mood.

Oh we still have to buy presents for the kids from the baby and he is being tight about that too, even though it has always been the plan. I have had a clear out and done a car boot and ebayed a load of stuff just last week to cover it, but he says we need this to cover bills etc. I am livid, and really sorry as I appear to have poured my heart out to you all! Can't believe he has been so horrible to me so close to having the baby. He better hope I don't do my usual trick and haemorrage- how guilt will he feel then?!

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/05/2010 21:23

saucepanman - dh and I row like that most days .

Congratulations wwisa and welcome Alice .

filly - I was all smug around 20 weeks about how i wouldn't even need maternity clothes. Suffice it to say that i am wearing the same things over and over now, and fed up of them. Today I wore trousers completely undone but with a belly band to hold them up - thank goodness for having that! I have dug out an old pair of trousers from when I was at my fattest today, and I'm hoping that they will fit me for a trip to Wimpole with friends tomorrow. I need trousers because otherwise my thighs will chafe in this heat .

Yay for no SCBU and no obvious CMV signs gizmo.

Good luck for all the imminent C Sections and inductions!

gizmo · 22/05/2010 21:54

Oh, can'tsleep if that 's Wimpole Hall I'd recommend hanging out in the dairy and/or largest barn - might be most bearable place in the heat. And anyone in striking distance of Cambridge might want to consider the open air pool at Jesus Green which will be crowded but bloody freezing delightfully cool.

Ladies, I really feel for you all in this heat, filly the clothes thing is such a pain isn't it? Worth a call around any of your female friends to try and beg/borrow maternity wear or even large size regular clothes?

And I'm so sorry about your husband, saucepanman. If he's not generally an utter arse, do you think he's going to apologise?

I hear what you say about happy hormones filly and you might be right. Trouble is, the implications are that it's a deep seated problem with multiple causes. I don't doubt that every member of the team who dealt withe that night went home aware that there had been a spectacular Fuck Up from which we were quite lucky to walk away unscathed: feeling abandoned I pretty much went into Wailing Harpy mode & in a very primitive way, hit the eject button on DD with such force that I'm unbelievably fortunate to have an intact pelvic floor. All of the midwives present were quite shaky about it and I don't think any of them would have chosen to pit themselves in that situation.

There is going to be an examination of the relevant processes & I will certainly be contributing, but it's the age old story that the best processes in the world will get overwhelmed without enough resources, and there were/are not enough resources in midwifery in Addenbrookes at the moment.

woofie · 22/05/2010 22:16

Congrats whenwillisleep and welcome to Alice. Lovely name. Hope you've enjoyed yr 1st day at home together, and you too meggy

Good luck saucepanman, mampam and greensnail- at least 3 more babies next week, we're on a roll

maybe I'm alone in hoping Lo hangs on til due date, even in this amazing heat, but still haven't wound down from work fully, and wd really appreciate a couple of wks to prepare my head for the impending whirlwind...

filly - yep, reaching the very limits of my maternity wear and also have v little suitable for this weather... I'm planning to save my shopping spree for when I've lost a bit of weight after the birth tho, so may be reduced to wearing dh's massive t-shirts soon. Also suffering from elephantine feet and ankles

gizmo you sound like you've bounced back v quickly, but glad you've had the opportunity to voice yr complaint. Brilliant news that lo's not displaying any CVR warning signs.

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/05/2010 22:20

Yes Wimpole Hall gizmo. I predict that ds will want to look at all the animals, dd will want to play in the adventure bit with the tyre swings and wobbly board, and her friend will want to sit and eat .

Maybe we can have a meet up there later in the summer .

madamefreckle · 22/05/2010 23:19

Congratulations gizmo and baby girl gizmo and Whenwillisleepagain and Alice (lovely choice of name!)

Saucepanman - Just what you need with less than 2 days to go before the baby arrives!! We are like that at the moment too...I'm just keeping to myself, sleeping by myself (SO much better!)and hoping that things magically improve when the baby arrives. The anticipation of it is just stressful I think for all concerned. And half hour toilet breaks - I know that one so well!! What is it with men and spending ages on the loo, either you need to go or you don't. Best of luck for next week. Also to Mampam and Greensnail - good luck!

Saucepanman · 22/05/2010 23:56

Thanks gizmo, CSWS and madame. DH isn't usually such an arse, but our biggest rows are when he has got in a mood and says mean things. He usually does apologise. We are at least sitting in the same room and being civil.

On another note, I also have cock all to wear in this heat, and am going through 3 changes of clothes a day. At least I won't have to get dressed for 3 weeks, with the section then the kids are off for 2 weeks!

Have packed bag for me but not yet for baby, have packed pjs nighti slippers and dressing gown for me, plus HUGE knickers and bras for me. Am a tad stressing that the babygros might be too hot, but as we don't know if the baby is pink or blue it's difficult to get summer rompers.

MomBanks · 23/05/2010 11:36

hi all,

haven't posted in ages but just wanted to say i am glad to hear that i am not the only one with absolutely enormous feet and ankles - i can only wear my birkenstocks now and even they have started to cut into my feet and leave marks when i wear them.
despite the gorgeous weather have sent DH and DS to the park so i can sit on the sofa with my feet up.

also - hardly any maternity clothes fit any more. i feel huge!!!

congrats to all who have had their wee ones - and good luck to those expecting this week!

Sunworshipper · 23/05/2010 13:29

Just escaping the heat for a while.

Congratulations WWISA on the birth of baby Alice. Glad you are all safe and sound.

Saucepanman and Mampam thinking of you for this week. Mampam definitely second the advice that anaesthetists are fab. When I met my anaesthetist I nearly swooned and thought well I'm not going to mind falling asleep looking into your blue eyes. They are always very calming and reassuring.

*Saucepanman I'm sorry your DH isn't on the same page as you with wanting everything done and having all your plans fulfilled. It feels so natural and understandable to want everything to be as right as it can possibly be and the simplest things seem so bloody frustrating at the moment. I am actually sitting here in tears because DH has gone off and I can't get any further forward with my plans for the day and everywhere I look is chaos and plans going up in smoke.

Filly I have no clothes either. Panicked yesterday as went to friend's hen do pulled out dress I was going to wear and it just looked awful suddenly - it was ok last week. Am walking around like a nun holding hands over bottom of bump to hide the gap where trousers/shorts don't do up and tops don't cover the gap.

Possibly TMI but laughed so much nearly slipped over. DH was talking to me when I was in the shower yesterday when a look of shock came over his face. He disappeared and returned with a huge pair of rusty old secateurs to sort out the ladygarden!!

LaTrucha · 23/05/2010 13:46

Welcome to the world baby Alice. Well done WWISA.

Not much more from me. Day of hysterial weeping and shouting from me yesterday followed by almost completely sleepless night. Was just catching up while DD fell asleep.

Is anyone else DC beginning to act strangely? DD - a real mummy's girl - suddenly wants no one but Daddy and screams every time I put her down to sleep.

I suppose I should count my blessings, eh?

bluesnowfalcon · 23/05/2010 18:02

Welcome to the world all the babies who are now appearing!

I'm now 35+5 and am loving the sun but finding that everything is taking even longer cos keep needing to sit down! Doing well got no swelling and bubs is moving but less so than previously which apparently is normal.

Only complaint I think I've got is that the heels of my feet are really sore - anyone else?

I've got one more week at work then I can officially start to chill bit more and not spend every weekend running round like a headless chicken trying to get everything done beofre Monday comes around again!

Sunworshipper lol at that image! My DP said that on Saturday - he reckons that is his job next weekend!

Anyway I guess once maternity leave kicks in I'll be able to keep up with the pace on here as haven't managed very well to keep up with the gossip or the births. Good luck to all those due this week or so

j0807bump · 23/05/2010 18:09

well done WWISA and hello to Alice

LaTrucha my DS 2.10 has been acting oddly for a few months now. really clingy one minute and then throwing a pointless 2 min temper over the most silly things and giving me a kick

he has never been clingy, just cuddly and was always really laid back but he's so up and down at mo. started pre school, DD coming, we're moving house and he's at that frustrated/pushing the boundary age anyway, poor thing

it doesn't help when pg because i'm all over the place too and i think that rubs off too. theres alot of change for them too.

sobloodystupid · 23/05/2010 19:53

Is it awful to be getting some comfort from other people's rows and problems ?
I'm going through the same thing with my dh, rowing and fighting and snapping but he has done nothing to deserve it (he is totally gorgeous and wonderful - barf).
I know I am being totally u but I don't think I can help it...
My dd aged r4 has turned into a teenager and little ds 15 months is so clingy, I can't breathe. Sunworshipper, you made me laugh so much so much!
