Hello... Technically I'm due on 30 March, but the March list is already quite long and if DS was anything to go by, we'll be well into April by the time this shrimp makes an appearance (fingers crossed, touch wood, etc etc! - still at the early superstitious stage!!). Shall I start with some stats? I'm 34 (will be 35 just after birth), DH is 33. We've got one DS just turned 2.

Hope to have some thread partners soon, I'm v friendly, honest

OP posts:

Well I was rather relying on him being there - he got off quite lightly last time - I was induced and had some pethidine after they'd sent him home, and then I was such a space cadet I forgot to get them to call him till it was really late (I was found wandering the corridor cos I had no idea which room I'd come from!) May give pethidine a miss this time or write his phone number on my forehead so someone else calls him.
Don't really want to be in there on my own so at the mo I've told him he's got no choice....

WhenPonkaGotStuckUpTheChimney · 15/12/2005 09:31

Welcome Amanada. We have/will have similar aged children, then. DS was born May 2004 and DS2 is due 6th April. Are you going for a double buggy, then? Sounds like you might end up looking after DH at the birth and not the other way around!

Congrats Allyco! I've had a quick read of your thread too, now. Boys are lovely. They are often quite Mummy clingy as Toddlers so you should get lots of cuddles.

Homsa, Liver Pate is my weakness, too. I miss it. I've resisted so far though. I feel I'm definately going to be breaking some rules over Christmas though. Especially the alcohol related ones.

I'm getting some really big kicks and movements now. This baby is a lot more active than DS was. It really feel like he is using my pelvic floor as a trampoline!

allycotownofbethlehem · 15/12/2005 09:47

wow we are a quiet thread. Maybe we're just busier than all the others .

Hope everyone is well and all bumps doing what they should be doing. Don't know about anyone else who's onto their second (or more...) but there never seems to be time to just sit and think about this baby. Everytime I seem to sit down and concentrate on him one of the others wants something...

Ooh and double buggies. I think I want one as DD is only just walking and not very confident yet BUT I want one of those old-fashioned ones where one side can have a carrycot on it rather than just a lie-back seat. Does anyone know if you can still get them? probably if you can they'll be Silver Cross or somesuch and cost about three million quid and I'd need to buy a bus to fit it in.

Lurve your Xmas name Ponka!

Hello everyone, am supposed to be decorating tree, writing Xmas cards and locating strange fishy smell in kitchen so have obviously logged on to avoid all these things!
ah yes - the double buggy question, DS won't be big enough to avoid really, so spent hours on internet researching double buggies and asking advice. Made v educated decision re McClaren then got carried away in Mamas & Papas yesterday and bought Twin Aria. Doh. Never been good at resisting an impulse purchase - and it was £50 quid off because last seasons colour (tho looked same to me) DH didn't seem to care and thought it "probably" would fit in car boot.
Buggy probably worth more than car actually.

Re Liver Pate - drool! I find myself doing deals with myself - "well, as I'm being good and not having prawns I could have brie...." Hopeless

tonton · 15/12/2005 12:52

I'm madly busy at work. Amazingly managed to make dd's nativity play on time yesterday. So was good mum rather than evil-working-mum for once!!
Quite like being distracted from the baby to be honest, especially as wasn't v happy about it to begin with. Much happier now when I do get time to think about it.
Have arranged doula for birth. Now need to get loads of baby stuff! We threw everything away (dd was meant to be only child!). Hoping ebay will be good.

allycotownofbethlehem · 15/12/2005 16:44

tonton - eBay is brill - they've made a mint out of me!!

tonton · 15/12/2005 17:16

By the way, didn't literally 'throw' things away - lest you think me v wasteful! Just all baby kit got given away, 'borrowed', fell apart etc and basically all we have is a not very nice (but will be fine ) cot bed. Oh and a knackered 5 year old McClaren. Oh and a car seat. So not SO bad....

Enideepmidwinter · 16/12/2005 13:54

just popping over to say hi as my due date has been changed to 30/4/06 - will probably be a may baby but you never know!

WhenPonkaGotStuckUpTheChimney · 16/12/2005 14:10

Cheers, Lockets. Doesn't time fly, though! I think Spring babies are great, too! We were trying for another Spring one deliberately and came up lucky!

Hello Enid. Are you on a May babies thread too, then?

Tonton, have you had a look at the For Sale on Mumsnet, too?

colditz · 16/12/2005 14:26

Amanada, a tin of catfood has fallen behind the fridge/microwave. Almost guarenteed.

Tonton, I have great sympathy, I never expected to have another baby, so all he clothes I had for ds that were the right sex, size and season (he was also an April baby) all got given away. And that was 2 years ago, ds will be 3 in April, and I will never be able to track them down. Gutted.

Luckily a mate of mine's 2 boys are both 9 months older than what will be my 2 boys - her baby is 4 months old, her ds1 is 9 months older than my ds1.

Friends like these are worth cultivating

allycotownofbethlehem · 16/12/2005 14:36

I am feeling smug 'cos still have a lot of DDs stuff (although clothes obviously won't be of any use!)

For DDs2/3/4 I had always thrown everything away/given it away though and so fully sympathise. The other thing I found was that everything had always got so expensive since the last DD!

Hello to Enid - you may be early and stick on this thread - I think from some of your other posts that this is your 3rd and you have two DDs already? Do you know which sex this is??

Enideepmidwinter · 16/12/2005 14:37

yes baby no 3

have two dds who will be 6.4 and 3.6 when new baby born

don't know the sex but presuming another girl

allycotownofbethlehem · 16/12/2005 14:39

yep when i found out baby no 5 on way was convinced it was a girl. Thought maybe DH only made girl tadpoles or something.

Boy were we in for a surprise at the scan!!

It still seems strange looking at blue clothes and stuff after 20 years of girly things.

Locks · 16/12/2005 19:06

I haven't been on for ages, I have been really busy with work. I am self employed and it is ironic that as I should be taking things easy I get loads of new work. I shouldn't grumble, but I am only suppose to work part time, but I am sure I am doing more hours than when I worked full time for an employer.

At least I have had some good news in that I can claim maternity allowance and pay someone to do my work for me whilst I am on maternity leave.

I finally gave in and bought some maternity clothes this week. Only tops for now as I am still just about wearing DH's trousers. I tried on some maternity trousers but I think they were too fashionable for me and I didn't like the length (too short for winter) or cut.

I can't believe I am now 24 weeks, it has gone so quickly. We need to start moving DS into the bigger bedroom in January and get things ready for the baby as well as move my office into DS's current bedroom (the box room).

Is everyone ready for Xmas? I was quite organised at the beginning of December, but now it is just over a week to go and I haven't even posted the cards yet!

Hello to all the new comers since my last post, you will have to bear with me as I catch up on who is who. I hope everyone is feeling well and the sickness has all gone away now (if not I can sympathise as I was still being sick at 28 weeks last time).

I suppose I had better get on and do some work!!

pacinoFanOfBrusselsSprouts · 16/12/2005 19:54

Hi folks, and welcome Enid, glad everyone all ok. Am pleased to say my back problem is so much better and have now been fitted with a support belt by the Physio dept at my local hospital.

Sort of ready for Christmas and am reeling from a rather large credit card statement, admittedly this is partly due to succumbing to some new Clinique anti-aging cream at the counter yesterday whilst buying a pressie for my Mum. Oops! Would dearly love to indulge in some Stilton but probably won't. Am already planning a celebratory meal once dd arrives, rare beef wellington a la Gordon Ramsey cooked by my dh, with enough blue cheese for dessert to last a lifetime! Oh, and a large glass or two of red wine I reckon! Can't remember now, but can you have a glass of wine when breastfeeding?

On the baby clothes issue, I am lucky dd1's stuff is still fairly ok. Actually I loathe paying full price for anything, especially kids clothes, and shop twice yearly at the NCT sales or buy stuff on Ebay. So far, so good.

Have a great weekend everyone,

amanada · 16/12/2005 20:05

Colditz - you must be psychic! strange smell indeed cat related but TMI to do details...

Locks - hello - we have to move DS to new room as well, but have to wait til after MIL has visited apparently as she needs a proper bed in the spare room (wasn't my plan at all- seemed quite handy timimg to me ) How late do you think we can leave it so the older ones aren't too unsettled? DS is 18 months now and can't decide if we should put him straight into a bed or get another cot for baby???? Rather like the idea of him not being able to escape, and he's always slept in a grobag so not sure if it wouldn't all be too new for him.

On the bright side I have finished my Xmas cards - hurray!

Tinselmum · 18/12/2005 18:58

Hello all long time since i have logged in.
Have had three bugs but now over them and the baby is fine as I have had my scan.
I think maybe now I am going to relax about this pregnancy - famous last words! We are in total chaos here at home as dh is doing DIY he is insulating the room we are going to put ds in in a few weeks.
I am still stuck on my names thinking of Tom, John, Sidney or Matthew for a boy or Nancy or Mary for a girl. The girls name is causing more grief that the boys' names.
Any way hope you are all fine, happy xmas if I don't manage to log in again.

tonton · 19/12/2005 10:27

Tinselmum I love Nancy! We wanted it for our dd2b but a close friend got in there first, darn it! My dh's idea for an alternative is Betsy but it's just not as nice.
Ponka - will check out 'for sale' on Mumsnet - thanks for tip.
So busy at work this week (just taking 5 mins out to check in with you guys!). It will be 10 hour days minimum. I'm freelance and on a day rate at the moment so it's worth me racking up the days while I'm still standing! My boss is already trying to talk to me about coming back next autumn and is offering me a senior job. It's a very good job he's offering but I wish they didn't want me to commit now. Plus he's muttering about it being fulltime when he knows I want to do 4 days...

allycotownofbethlehem · 19/12/2005 10:28

shouldn't be MNing as am v busy at work...

DD4 is well poorly at moment with nasty cough and cold -I am a bad mummy and sent her to the childminder this morning I am taking tomorrow off though so hopefully she should soon be on the mend.

How is everyone??

tonton · 19/12/2005 14:35

I also sent a possibly unwell child to school! So mean. But so far so good....
Baby is moving so much I can see it kick through my top. I'm 22 weeks.

spots · 20/12/2005 13:03

Hi there, all well here but DD being incredibly clingy and I am worried about how she'll be with 2nd child. We were at Toddlers this morning and whenever another child joined in with whatever game we were playing (she was unable to play alone for starters) she screeched like a banshee and tried to flap him/her away. Gawd. what am I in for? Also have been told my blood pressure is a bit high twice now over last fortnight, so another app. on Fri. So fine, but a bit glum.

Amanada, I was thinking about the bed thing too but I think we'll be keeping DD in her cot for as long as possible! Luckily we got a 2nd hand (rather horrible) cot passed on to us so no problem with who has what. DD can stay in her current one. She is 19 mnths btw.

It still seems such a long way off but I bet come the New Year we'll feel that April's only just around the corner!

MrsEvs · 20/12/2005 23:36

Hi All, sorry I've been awol for a bit. I'm actually in the UK. Had to fly back on a days notice last week as my Dad was in intensive care . He had a ruptured aortic aneurysm which is pretty grim and he beat quite significant odds to make it at all. He seems to be on the mend now amazingly, he's been moved out of ICU to a high dependency unit and looks set to make a full recovery, thank God. It will just take a really long time that's all. Things a bit hectic here what with fielding calls for my Mum and trips to the hospital. The flight here was also not a barrel of laughs as you can imagine! Travelling alone with a 16 month old, pregnant, worried sick because at that point I wasn't certain he'd be alive when I landed, and changing at Heathrow (having to get from terminal 3 to terminal 1 with all my paraphanalia) - nightmare! Oh well, all's well that ends well!!

I really don't want to do the double buggy thing but not sure I'm going to be able to avoid it as dd will only be 20 months when dd2 arrives. I did see someone with a cunning looking device the other day that seemed to attach to the back of her buggy and was basically like a round platform for the older child to stand on. Does anyone know what I'm on about or where I might find one?

I'm pretty sure we're going to put dd in her own bed too at the end of January. Want to have her settled in the toddler bed a good while before the new baby comes. I'm not to happy at the thought of nightime wandering either though, but someone suggested putting a stair gate on her door. Is that too prisonlike do you think? The door of her room is literally only 3 ft from the door of mine, so I'd be right there if she needed me?

As far as Chrimbo goes, I was all ready, but all the stuff is back in the US. I just couldn't carry it wih me, and with the cost of a last minute transatlantic flight in the middle of December (ouch!), I can't afford to buy anything else while we're here. Oh well, just lucky she's too young to really understand and she'll have lovely new toys to come home to!

WhenPonkaGotStuckUpTheChimney · 21/12/2005 08:20

Oh Mrs. Evs. Sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope everything will turn out well. What an upheaval around Christmas time as well. I think the thing you are talking about is a buggy board. I don't know much about them but I think they are probably for kids a lot older than ours.

We can't decide what to do about bedroom/bed moving either but I think we might keep DS where he is and in a cot. He would be a bit of a liability in a bed just yet and is not yet trying to escape from his cot. I'm also worried about clinginess too, Spots. DS doesn't like it when I hug DH or when I pick up one of his little friends so I think he's in for a bit of a shock. Perhaps it's just a phase they are going through that'll disappear shortly (or perhaps I should stop being ever the optimist)?

I can't believe things have gone so quickly. Shortly after Christmas we'll start hitting the 3rd trimester, won't we?! I'm starting to get a lot of comments about just how large I am now.

spots · 21/12/2005 15:42

Ponka, apparently this is a classic age for clinginess! Hope that means that by April it'll all have turned around. (I started a thread on it in 'parenting' if you're interested.)

Mrs Evs, so sorry you've had such an ordeal, well done to your dad on coming out the other side! Your mum will be pleased to have you there with her I'm sure. How long will he be in hospitlal for?
