Hello... Technically I'm due on 30 March, but the March list is already quite long and if DS was anything to go by, we'll be well into April by the time this shrimp makes an appearance (fingers crossed, touch wood, etc etc! - still at the early superstitious stage!!). Shall I start with some stats? I'm 34 (will be 35 just after birth), DH is 33. We've got one DS just turned 2.

Hope to have some thread partners soon, I'm v friendly, honest

Pacinofan I am so glad about your news, that must be a big weight off your mind .

I can't believe I am 20wks this week, half way through and I am feeling quite well. We have the second scan at the end of next week and we have decided not to find out what sex the baby is. The baby is going to have to share a room with their older brother and I like surprises (I am never tempted to sneak a look at christmas pressies before the day).

It would be good to have a recall of who is on here, when they are due and how many other children they have, here are my details:

Me 30 DH almost 32 (in 2 wks), 1 DS aged 2 (September 2003). Due Date 5th April 2006.

Tumblemum, I think feeling the baby move can happen as late as 22 weeks, so yes I'm sure you are normal. One of the Mums in my Playgroup is due the day after you with her 2nd and she's felt no movement either but has had 3 scans (at her doctors they have a little portable one and do a quick scan at every appoinment!), and all is perfect so don't worry.

allyco · 15/11/2005 15:40

hi - can I join? Am due 15th April.

MrsEvs I see you have a DD of a year. My youngest is a wee bit older but I am PETRIFIED about having another so close in age. Are you at all fazed by it??

MrsEvs · 15/11/2005 20:34

Welcome allyco. Yes, I do have my moments of thinking, oh God maybe I should have waited a while longer, but to be honest I think there are pluses and minuses to having number 2 at any stage really. You gotta do it sometime (unless you only want 1), may as well be now

Roll call seems to have died a death so I'll again what we have so far.

Ponka · 15/11/2005 21:48

Welcome Allyco! I'm pretty worried about a 22 month age gap but then I worry about everything . Small or large age gap, one or 6 children, I keep hearing that it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. I guess people just get on with what they need to do.

I'm definately going to find out if it's a boy or a girl, btw. That's if baby will keep legs uncrossed! I'm too nosey not to know. My scan is on the 30th.

Homsa, I'll have a word with my friend to see if she wants to get in touch. Don't worry. She's normal, too!

Has anyone thought about having a 3D scan? They sound great. I wondered about asking for it as an Xmas present but someone mentioned recently that there is a slight link between a lot of scans and autism and I've already been told I should have 3.

I don't feel a great deal of movement either, but heartbeat was heard today, and the miswife says the baby has probably just moved where I can't feel it!

I went to get my blood results for the Ds screening, they were low risk. however....

My booking in bloods were taken at 14 weeks pg. Midwife was unable to draw ANY blood from vein. So they were taken again at 15 weeks. Sheffield lab refusded to test them, saying the vials were not correctly filled. So they were taken AGAIN at 17 weeks, along with the DS screening. The booking in results came today with the screening results. Sheffield lab refused to test them AGAIN, saying the vial was incorrectly filled.

The outcome of which is, I still don't have the results for my disease test (the syphilis etc), and I am 20 weeks pg on Friday.

This is bad enough in itself, but I have a really bad phobia of needles. I really don't think I can go through all this again. When the midwife told me, I cried. I am rH- as it is, I have to have bloods taken and an injection given at 28 weeks, and to be honest the thought of having to have more needles on top of the ones I already know about is ruining this pregnancy for me

spots · 16/11/2005 10:15

Blimey Colditz poor you.

allyco · 16/11/2005 12:51

am back again - just so you know, I am 41 (god, am so old and you are all babies) my DH is 43 so at least he's older than me... we have four kids already aged 19, 13, 8 and 14 months so you may well ask what on earth are we doing having another.

I came back high risk for Downs after the nuchal scan (which cost £150.00 AND we don't live in London so it was expensive!)so we agonised for a bit and decided on the quadruple blood test from Leeds rather than going to amnio straight away. Luckily that came back screen negative and my risk had gone down to 1:1500 which was low enough for us to decide we wouldn't have any further tests.

Have just started to feel little movements ( I think) which is making me feel a bit better as I am still very sick and nauseous 24/7 and coming up to nineteen weeks. Still, I was the same with my others. Would quite like to know the sex this time, what is everyone else doing about finding out (sorry I haven't read the whole thread in detail if you've already discussed it!). Am still v concerned about the age gap this time though, especially when you consider the age gaps I've had previously....

MrsQ · 16/11/2005 13:02

Hiya, Yes most people seem to be finding out - I know I am. Want to curb any pangs towards Claire's Accessories and princess dresses while I still can! Blimey, that is quite a spread of ages... do you mind if I do ask how come?!?

FirstTimer40 · 16/11/2005 14:14

Hi all
Sorry have been out of touch, computer had virus or trojan or some other nasty that cost me 100 quid to get fixed Grrrr
All is well with baby I think, have my 20 week scan this afternoon and am bit anxious. I am 20 weeks today and have felt no movements but have have heard heartbeat a week ago and two weeks ago (as had to have extra tests re high blood pressure). The high was due to stress I think rather than anything else as DH got made redundant from good well paid job half mile from home, completely out of the blue, so bit of a shock. Married life is great though and in a way with that and baby on way, job seems not so important (although am now buying all second hand baby stuff)
To add to rollcall, I am 40 (next week!), DH is 46 and this is first baby.
More after scan, fingers crossed (amd legs as its a full bladder one)
PS May not have been doing enough pelvic floor exercises as I sneezed the other day and wee'd myself a bit- whoops !!!

allyco · 16/11/2005 15:06

wow - FirstTimer40 nearly as old as me, but not quite{sad}.

The only reason I have big age gaps is that the little darlings all slept so badly for the first several years of their lives that there was no possible way to conceive a sibling for them. We were too busy trying to grab just five minutes' sleep! Just shows that the youngest is the best sleeper {grin}

allyco · 16/11/2005 15:07

ooh and FirstTimer good luck with the scan - are you finding out the sex??

MrsEvs · 16/11/2005 15:23

I hadn't felt any movement with my dd at 20 weeks, I remember at the scan she was doing somersaults and moving round like crazy and the radiographer couldn't believe I couldn't feel it!! Wasn't long afterwards that I did start though.

This baby is also super active already, it is such a lovely feeling though, so I'm not complaining

Good Lord allyco - what a brood! How fab, I'd love a big family like that, not sure whether I can talk my dh into 5 though . I can see why you are more worried about the gap this time, but at least with older children they can actually be a help, another pair of hands so to speak. At least that's what my sister found. Were the older children good with your youngest?

Poor you Colditz, I hope they manage to get all your blood tests sorted for you.

Allyco, what an exciting family... makes me want to read a column by you in the weekend papers or something! Well done, 5 kids, and actually I think probably pretty good in lots of ways to have big age gaps. That way you ever have that lots-of-small-children-all-at-once mayhem.
No peeking under baby's kilt for us - wanted to actually, but damn' legs in the way.

Homsa · 16/11/2005 21:25

Colditz: 25, DP 32, 1 ds aged 2.6, due date 6th April 2006

DS and I are staying with my parents at the moment and I'm typing this on my brother's computer which is going to die on me again any minute now...just quickly wanted to say welcome to allyco, and I really feel for you colditz, what a nightmare! Absolutely hate needles too, and think the best way to have a blood test would be for the midwife to assault me in the street, pin me down and be done with it before I realised what was going on...

I can't imagine how I would go on a journey like the one I've just had to my parents' place (bus, train, plane, bus, train, taxi) with 2 kids... Unless DS matures dramatically in the next 5 months - not very likely!

allyco · 17/11/2005 10:55

luckily I don't have a problem with needles (years ago I had probs with spinal fluid pressure and ended up with 36 lumbar punctures over six months so just as well really ). Colditz - can you get that EMLA cream stuff to have before needles so you are nice and numb or is it more the thought of the needle than the pain that does it for you?

Meant to ask how everyone else's DDs and DSs are about sleeping. Although my youngest is the best sleeper out of all of mine I am still up at least a couple of times a night and then really early in the morning ie too early for CBeebies even and that is worrying me for when the new baby arrives.

Am off on Saturday for bra fitting at local bra lady guru shop. Kind of looking forward to it which shows how sad my life must be. Is everyone else ready for Christmas as really should be shopping for that instead of bras...?.

pacinofan · 17/11/2005 11:32

Welcome allyco! Just been reading further down the board and can fully sympathise re the downs testing. I won't bore everyone again by repeating my story, suffice to say we opted for amnio and all ok, thank goodness. Now looking forward to finding out baby's sex, am so excited! I reckon it's a boy (as do the majority of family) but dh and my brother convinced it's a girl. Don't care either way just happy to bring no2 into our family.

No, I am not ready for Xmas despite my best intentions to have everything bought by Nov. However, am doing M&S with my Mum tomorrow and will aim to be in and out within 2 hours. I am sure I am alone in this when I say I actually do not enjoy shopping very much and resent the time spent having to do it. Love ebay and online shopping though, and I keep reminding dh how lucky he is that I am cheap to run! Have already been and had a bra fitting, John Lewis were great and I got kitted out with a sports bra and am also wearing the EmmaJane nursing and sleep bras, so comfy.

Colditz - really sorry to hear about your experience with blood tests, sincerely hope you have got this sorted out. I am not great at doing bloods but am much better than used to be. I am lucky 'cos I seem to have a vein that is easy to get to, iyswim.

Firsttimer40 - any news from your scan? And congratulations on your recent marriage, hope you are enjoying being newlyweds!

Love to everyone,

allyco · 17/11/2005 14:51

pacinofan - how sick have you been, cos I think the sicker you are the more likely it's a girl (that's my pet old-wive's-tale belief anyway). Is it right that the amnio tells you the sex and if so how long before you knoww??

pacinofan · 17/11/2005 19:38

BREAKING NEWS!!! Had a call from the hospital today, my final amnio results are here and all ok. And - we are having a girl! Absolutely thrilled, but just goes to show how wrong I was 'cos I was convinced 'she' was a 'he'. Great day, double celebration here as dh has received notification of promotion today. Will celebrate with a large cup of ovaltine!
