Hello... Technically I'm due on 30 March, but the March list is already quite long and if DS was anything to go by, we'll be well into April by the time this shrimp makes an appearance (fingers crossed, touch wood, etc etc! - still at the early superstitious stage!!). Shall I start with some stats? I'm 34 (will be 35 just after birth), DH is 33. We've got one DS just turned 2.

Hope to have some thread partners soon, I'm v friendly, honest

Hi there,

Well my NT scan went very well I was amazed at how active the baby was - wriggling around like crazy.

My risk of Downs was put at 1:1500 but I have to wait a few more days before I get the blood test results and a final number...

They weighed me and I have lost 7lbs in the last 4 weeks which is the result of the horrid morning sickness I have.

When I got home I had a call from the doctors telling me the results of my urine sample the week before showed an infection, so I am now on a course of antibiotics. I have to admit to feeling very uneasy about taking antibiotics whilst pregnant but they assured me the type I have are safe.....

Honestly this pregancy lark - if it's not one thing to worry about it's another

I have my first meeting with the midwife tomorrow afternoon. A little bit nervous as the doctor told me she has a reputation as being a bit of a battleaxe .

Locks · 26/09/2005 18:52

I don't have any specific cravings, just carbohydrates really. Trying to be good and not "eating for two" as I put on almost 5 stones last time.

I have my scan on Wednesday and am looking forward to it, but also I am apprehensive too. I think I know more of what can go wrong this time so that doesn't help. Last time my main fear was they would say I was just getting fat!!

I went to the doctors last week and she said that she could feel my womb rising out of my pelvis which I hope is a good sign. I have also been prescribed antibiotics as I have been suffering from very bad skin and a spot became infected just where my bra touches my skin. I have been assured it is safe and that it is better to clear up the infection as it could cause further problems.

I am going to start my antenatal exercise class next week so that is something to look forward to.

All my maternity clothes are summer ones as I had my son in the autumn of 2003 when it hit 100 degrees. I am just about still in my jeans, but at least now that I work for myself I don't have to worry about too many smart clothes

Introduced DS to the wonders of popadums this evening. I reckon they'd be a great ms food - nice and carby, but not too tasteful, or rather I mean quite plain, and a little bit fatty (we microwave them rather than deep fry).

Anyway, that's my thought for the day. Just waiting for DH to finish off bathtime with DS then its the rest of the curry, sofa and Love Soup on the tele for me. Ironing, what ironing?

Hi All. Had my 12 weeks scan yesterday, and all well. Little beanie was very active, kicking around and wriggling frantically, which the doc said showed he/she had a good strong spine already which was nice to hear. Got a lovely photo, which I was delighted about because with dd I didn't have a scan until 20 weeks, and then they didn't even do me a photo , so this is all new and exciting!

I too had lost 7lbs since my previous appointment 4 weeks ago and got a telling off about that, but it's just that I have been feeling sooooo sick morning, noon, and night. Thankfully that does seem to be easing up a bit so hopefully it'll be gone for good sometime soon. The only other nightmare I have had is a constant headache for the last 10 days - really starting to wear me down! I remember the same thing happening with dd though and it did pass after a couple of weeks, so hopefully that will go soon too.

Then bring on the lovely 2nd trimester - energy, nice skin and hair, adorable (rather than all encompassing!)bump, no sickness - can't wait

Ponka · 27/09/2005 22:28

Hi everyone. Any gossip then?

He-he MrsQ. Yeah, Pregnacare is great, isn't it? It makes me feel a whole lot better about eating junk. I don't really know if it's O.K. to carry on sleeping on your tummy. I like doing that too. I have a feeling that it's probably around the time now when you shouldn't any more. I've been sleeping on my arms. I put them right at the side and there's a gap in between for my tummy so I don't put pressure on it. Gives me dead arms though.

Mum2one, "Any other May 2004 babies' mums due in April?" Yep. Both Spots and I. DS is 28/05/2004. I'm not sure about Spots' DD. I think she was a bit earlier in the month. How come you haven't joined us over there? You should pop in and say hello. Everyone's dead friendly.

Colditz - Cottage Cheese and Humous. Not together . Last time it was orange ice lollies, even though it was winter.

JIFDA, have you tried ginger? It's supposed to help with bump related and non - bump related sickness. I like Ginger biscuits and ginger beer. I agree with Missus, too. Eating little and often seems to help me.

No scan date yet for me and no end to the morning sickness. I threw up yesterday when DH mentioned the word "Noodles". I have to keep a bucket by the changing mat when I change DS too because that really gets me. Poor little guy. He's started imitating my wretching noises as soon as we go to the changing table, which at the moment is about 8 times a day because he's got diarrhoea . I might start chasing the scan date now. I'm about 12 weeks and haven't heard anything but I suppose I was a bit slow off the mark seeing the midwife at first.

Tumblemum · 28/09/2005 14:10

Hi all, how is everyone. I have been away for a few days having a rest. Cravings - quite in to spcicy food and never say no to chocolate. Got my scan week after next so looking forward to that. Very tired, work is busy busy busy.

colditz · 28/09/2005 14:17

Orange juice with soda water and ice
Ice lollies
jelly beans
'Proper' roast dinners
Cheese

I feel disgustingly healthy and perky! It wasn't like this with my first. I felt rank for 9 months!

Ladies, I have done an awful thing and my midwife is going to shout at me.....

I have lost the slip of paper the scan operater gave me to put in my notes. It has vanished off the face of the earth.

MrsEvs · 28/09/2005 14:59

Re sleeping on your tummy - when I was pg with dd I asked my doctor about it and he said it was fine for as long as it was comfortable, which won't be much longer for me I don't think. The one you do have to watch is sleeping on your back apparently. After a certain number of weeks (I think it's about 16) you shouldn't do it cos the baby rests on your vena cava or something like that and cuts of some good stuff getting to the little one.

I've got a thing about ice lollies at the mo too - lime ones especially!

MrsQ · 28/09/2005 15:15

Isn't that weird with ice... I'm not so much craving ice lollies (poss cos I wouldn't get away with it infront of DS without sharing and thought of cleaning up the sticky drips is too much effort!), but I'm loading any drinks I have with lots of ice. Strange.

Good news about sleeping on tum (although you're right, won't be comfy for much longer!). Had forgotten the whole thing about not sleeping your back later on as well. Sometimes the whole process seems the least natural process in the world rather than most.

Colditz - have you looked in all possible bags? Coat pockets? Down back of sofa? If completely lost - just blame the scan people for not giving you one!

Homsa · 28/09/2005 17:08

Hi all, haven't posted for a while, been just too knackered!

I had my nuchal scan today and all is well, I am so relieved!!! It took ages to get the bean into the right position, though, s/he appears to be just as stubborn as DS...

As for cravings - anything cooked by someone other than me! I just can't stand my own cooking at the moment... we're spending far too much money on eating out!

FirstTimer40 · 28/09/2005 18:05

Hi all
Just a quickie as getting married tomorrow - wow! Very small wedding, night away in lovely hotel and then Cyprus beach for a week - heaven. Bump is growing daily, had a panic re my dress but can still squeeze in. If its windy day will have to be careful which way photos are taken, although I will gladly show "him" (we were told its 85% its him) off with pride.
Now 13 weeks and suddenly feel better, more energy, less sick, still tired if do too much. Feels a long way to go but I confess I love being pg. Speak to you all in a few weeks, take care
PS Does anyone else go into the due "whatever now month is" and read the delivery stories or is that just a crazy first timer sort of thing ?

MrsQ · 28/09/2005 19:01

Congrats FT40! Enjoy your big day, including the champagne! Have a lovely time in Cyprus too.

Impossible to ignore the birth stories I think, far too exciting

OP posts:
Locks · 28/09/2005 20:13

Had my nuchal scan today and feel so relieved The babs did a little dance for us and then refused to get into position, I had to cough and rock from side to side and eventually s/he got into place.

I thought I was 13 weeks today, but the scan puts me at 13+2, which is the opposite to how it was with DS as they had him 4 days behind the date done on my LMP. Just hoping that this babs has read the manual about ms finishing around now, I had to run for the loo this morning, but thankfully I wasn't physically sick

MrsEvs · 28/09/2005 21:45

Have a wonderful day FT40, and enjoy your honeymoon - I went to Cyprus for mine as well, it was lovely. How exciting that you're already pretty sure of the sex - I am dying to know. How about everyone else, finding out or not?

As for birth stories, they are always interesting reading, but I have to say in the months before dd was due I did start watching "Birthday" on Discovery Health channel fairly obsessively, so I think there is defo a greater fascination with no. 1

Homsa · 29/09/2005 08:06

Congratulations FT40, have a great wedding & honeymoon! Seems you timed it perfectly!!

I would love to know the sex of the baby, but the sonographer yesterday refused to venture a guess... I so hope it's a girl, simply because of the possibility of DS being autistic - girls are much less likely to be affected.

Haven't read any birth stories so far, but was quite addicted to them first time round I must admit. Especially towards the end of the pregnancy. I was in floods of tears every time they put the baby on the mother's belly.

What I have done, though, is get a copy of my delivery notes from the hospital. Made very interesting reading (well, as far as I could read them - mw had appalling handwriting) and showed that my perception of time was somewhat distorted during labour! I'm hoping to go through them with a mw once I've finally moved house and found a mw in Sheffield (shouldn't be long now). Hope that will help me on deciding whether to try for VBAC or have a scheduled c-section.

Missus · 29/09/2005 10:21

Hi everyone,

I haven't been online for a while as was far too cocky before about getting over the ms - pride comes before a fall and all that. However, have been seeing an acupuncturist for the last 2 weeks and that really seems to have helped. Would see him every other day if I could afford to. In amongst all the other normal advice he gave me he advised not taking Pregnacare tablets whilst feeling pukey just buy folic acid only tablet. Apparently, all those vitamins make the ms worse! Wish someone had told me that 4 weeks ago or am I the only person who didn't already know that?

Glad to hear that I am not the only one who has a fascination with watching and reading about labour and delivery. I am reading every book and magazine about labour I can find. Don't have SKY at the moment, which is just as well otherwise I would be watching Birth Stories all day.

Anyway think we should all have a metaphorical toast to everyone - well done us for getting through the first trimester (or almost). Only another 28 weeks to go! And congratulations to FT40.

Locks · 29/09/2005 11:10

I didn't know about the effect of vitamins on ms. I have been taken the Santagen's Pronatal tablets and thought that it would be a good idea to take a multi vitamin to make sure I got my RDA. I take it with breakfast and usually I am ill beforehand, although not exclusively as I am also sometimes ill in the afternoon.

Having said all that, I am less physically sick that I was with DS and I took exactly the same tablets then.

pacinofan · 30/09/2005 19:03

Hi all, well, I am in maternity wear. Anyone else yet? Am only 10+4, wasn't in maternity till around 16/17 weeks with dd1.

Apart from that, all fairly ok, still feeling pretty sick and tired but generally ok. Have my first scan a week Monday and really can't wait, especially reading how everyone else's have been.

Hope all well with you all, I am more or less on my own for 5 nights as from tomorrow as dh is away working. Have decided to tackle potty training whilst he's away as we haven't any plans to go anywhere. Wish me luck!

Ponka · 30/09/2005 19:16

Mmm yes, good luck! Yeah, I'm just starting to wear a few maternity bits now, too. I'm starting to get the odd comment about how my tummy is expanding just these last few days.

I'm also facinated with birth stories in books, magazines and on TV. In fact, I'm so facinated, I wrote in to practical parenting with mine and it's in this October issue, if anyone has it! Please ignore the photo though! We had a bit of trouble when DS was born so it was a bit of a drama but it all turned out just fine.

I've never heard that about vitamins either. I'm still feeling bad with ms and hardly eating anything healthy so I feel like I should carry on.

No sign of a scan yet. How do you get the date? I've forgotten. Post or by phone? I'm starting to think that mw has forgotten me

FT40 CONGRATULATIONS! Have a fantastic honeymoon.

How'd you get a copy of delivery notes, Homsa? Was it easy?

Tumblemum · 01/10/2005 09:03

Me too in maternity wear definitely got a bump now and 11 weeks today, last time round it was later.
Pacinofan know how hard it is with a 'dh' working away mine is back now but for much of the first 5 weeks of pg he was away and will no doubt be off again in the near future - good luck with potty training how old is your ds. Can't face training mine until he is three.

Congratulations to FT40 hope you had a lovely day.

MrsQ · 02/10/2005 19:23

Ponka - are you the story with the breech baby born by C section? Gosh, I read that yesterday... I have to admit to a little tear in my eye when I did! I'm SO hormonal at the mo its becoming a bit tiring (DH just doesn't get it and keeps nagging on at me to try and find out what's wrong, bless him but just makes me worse!).

Glad to hear everything's ok now.

I'm not quite in maternity wear yet, but getting v close. I was in a really bad mood at the end of the other day, and realised far too late that actually most of it was down to the fact that my trousers had been tooo tight all day! Going to have another sort through next weekend I think.

That's us Mrs Q. Finally got my scan date on Wednesday and am booked in to see the consutant. I'd really like to try for a VBAC but with everything that happened and having scoliosis and metal rods in my back, I might have a fight on my hands. The main words in the article were something like "I know I did the right thing in the end", actually, that's about the only bit they wrote completely themselves. I'm not so sure myself. It may have been. It may not. I'll never know but like you say, it worked out fine and for that, we are so grateful. I bet I'll end up being booked in for an elective on Wednesday. We'll see....

Homsa · 03/10/2005 07:05

Ponka, that sounds dramatic!! I'll have to have a nose through the magazine next time I go to Tesco's...
To get your delivery notes, you just need contact the medical records office of your hospital and ask them for an application form. I got photocopies of my records just a couple of week after I had sent in the form. It cost about £20.

pacinofan · 03/10/2005 11:42

Just had a scan an the E.P unit - had a few sharp pains late last week and over the weekend so decided to get myself checked out. Am very relieved to say baby is fine, I could see him/her on the screen wriggling about and there was a heartbeat. Am just so relieved, it's taken so long to get this far (11 weeks today) just couldn't bear it if anything goes wrong. They were great at the E.P unit and were kind enough to give me some 'photos too - can't wait to show dh.

Tumblemum, glad to know I am not the only 'work widow' around. Got through the weekend ok, potty training is on hold though after absolutely no joy with dd. DH home early Thursday, can't wait to show him the scan 'photos now.

Hope all well with folks, cheers for now,
