Hello... Technically I'm due on 30 March, but the March list is already quite long and if DS was anything to go by, we'll be well into April by the time this shrimp makes an appearance (fingers crossed, touch wood, etc etc! - still at the early superstitious stage!!). Shall I start with some stats? I'm 34 (will be 35 just after birth), DH is 33. We've got one DS just turned 2.

Hope to have some thread partners soon, I'm v friendly, honest

Chocolatepeanut,
Did your finger get stuck on the send button.
Thanks for your many words of support. I really want to beleive everything is gonna be fine but deep down I know it's not. Have had a good cry and falsed myself to be around my nephews and neice today. Took them all to the park and watched them all have so much fun..
I just wish I could add to the gang.
In the mean time I will carry on being their favourite aunt.
Thanks again for all yur support guys.
I really do need it.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 02/09/2005 19:43

I am working on a makeshift computer table thats a bit wonky!!Cant afford a proper one until I am back on full pay.

I was everyones fav aunt until I had my dd nearly two years ago.I had a m/c before that and a stillbirth since.I am 38 and really thought that I would never have a child off my own.

I cant blame you for worrying giving the difficult time you have had trying for a child but everything could still be ok as its not unusual to have a bleed in pregnancy and I hope and pray that its just turns out to be one of those things when you go to hosp next week.

I have everything crossed for you
xx

SORRY for having been so negative.

I wish all of you a really safe and easy pregnancy. Take care of yourselves..........

spots · 04/09/2005 21:28

Peepee, so sorry.

MrsEvs · 06/09/2005 07:07

Oh peepee, I am so, so sorry. We are all thinking of you. Don't give up - my Mum had 5 or 6 m/cs AND an ectopic pregnancy before succuessfully carrying me to term aged 41 - all 10lbs 8 and 24 inches of me!!!

Locks · 06/09/2005 21:00

This thread has gone very quiet. Should we have a recap of who is who and where we are all at?

I am 10 weeks now and my ms is starting to ease off now which is a complete change to my pregnancy with DS who will be 2 on Saturday. I still get tired, but I find eating a little and often really helps, but the weight is creeping on. I can't remember how much I weighed at this stage last time, but by the end of it I put on over 5 stones!! I really hope I don't do that this time.

pacinofan · 07/09/2005 08:04

Hi, I am 7+2 today. Still feeling a bit nervous (we had a very early miscarriage 9 months ago) but can't help feeling attached to the beanie and excited about the future. So far my parents know and my bf, we plan to tell mil this weekend.

Have much more sickness than I remember with dd and it seems to be an all day feeling of nausea, though I never actually get sick just feel it. Ginger biscuits are helping. Also, does anyone else have a 'bump' this early? I have a definite (slight) bump, though I admit my tummy was never flat and toned after dd's arrival! I have gained 4lbs in weight and have made a decision to try and eat healthily to limit the weight gain. Last pregnancy I gained 3 stone and it was pretty tough to lose. It's just so tempting to eat well when you know you can, last night we had a roast dinner with proper roast potatoes done in (a little!) lard. Very sinful but utterly delicious!

Also, have my appointment at the foetal medicine centre at Bart's confirmed in 4 weeks which is giving me something to look forward to. We will have a scan, nuchal fold test and first set of bloods taken for downs syndrome, etc. Will get final result around 16 weeks.

Hope everyone else all well,

Bouj · 07/09/2005 09:44

Had an early scan today, as I had an increased risk of ectopic. All is well - little heart going hammer & tong

But they have dated me as due in May, so I shall bid you all farewell and wander off in search of the May thread - is there one yet? Mumble, mumble.... Wish you all the best of the coming months and will watch out for those birth announcements in April 06

FirstTimer40 · 07/09/2005 16:44

Hi
I have been reading this thread for a few days and thought it was time I joined in. I am a real golden oldie at 40 and this is my first pregnancy (didnt meet the right DH until now- actually he will become that in 3 weeks time at the registry office, thought at my age I shouldnt wait to try & conceive once made the decision, was told it may take years, it took 2 months )
Am 10 weeks - due date given so far is 6 April 06 and have been knackered all the time and nauseous but no actual chucking yet. I have very distinct bump which was a real suprise, either I am having twins/triplets or have eaten too many chips (my craving).
I had a GP booking appointment at 8 weeks but have had no contact from a midwife, is that odd?
Got private nuchal fold scan/bloodtests at 12 weeks and by coincidence an NHS 12 week scan on same day (we will have to drive fast from one to the other, if I need full bladder for both it could be nasty)
Am going on honeymoon at 13 weeks but think I may sleep all the time if I still feel like this- that will be romantic
I dont know anyone else who is pregnant and have just moved to a new area so reading all the messages cheered me up no end, as it made me feel more "normal" ha ha

Locks · 07/09/2005 18:36

Welcome FirstTimer40, congratulations on your pregnancy and your marriage

I had my first appointment with the mw at 8 weeks and she took my bloods. I have my appointment with the GP next week and I will be almost 11 weeks (I am due the day before you). I think it varies from area to area as to how they do it.

I am having my scan on the 27th, do they not do the nuchal test as part of your NHS scan? I know some areas don't do a 12 week scan and you have to go privately if you want the nuchal scan.

It's hard to tell if I have got any bump, but my tummy is defintely swelling. This is my second baby, with the first I had terrible ms until almost 30 weeks, so the fact I only feel nauseous with the occasional throwing up is a blessing. The tiredness hits me in the afternoon which is a drag with a toddler so we have to keep busy to distract me otherwise all I want to do is fall asleep

pacinofan · 07/09/2005 19:41

Welcome Firsttimer40, I'm a 'golden oldie' too expecting no 2 at 38. You are not alone in having an early 'bump', I have a slight one at 7+2. So far have gained about 4lbs in weight already but am not surprised as this is exactly how it happened with dd. Have resolved to be sensible about what I eat (was actually fairly light at 8st 11lbs/5ft 4" before this pregnancy) but I did gain a fair amount with dd and it was hell to shift.

I have had contact with my midwife, but only because I 'phoned to check I would be offered a 12 week scan. Am not due to see her until 10 weeks and it seems that this is the norm. Like you, I have elected for private bloods/scan and have these at 12 weeks.

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding too, you must be really excited! Where are you going on honeymoon?

spots · 07/09/2005 20:21

Congrats ft40! I think I am due same day as you but I thought I was only 9 weeks! Remember some confusion over this last time too. Werent there some others due 6th April too? What do you reckon - 9 or 10 weeks??

I am babysitting a friend's twins and just necked a marmite sandwich. This now rates officially as a craving I brought it with me as I knew there'd be a point where I needed one! And DD (15 months) now cries 'Marmite' when she sees the pot. Gaw, could do with another one.

Feeling fine, have I think small bump but to make a marmite sandwich you reaally need to use butter not marg...

tortoiseshell · 08/09/2005 10:18

Hi everyone, am due around the end of April, so may flit in and out of the May thread as well as this one! Was very late with previous two babies! Feeling quite sick and tired - but sickness mercifully now seems to be confining itself to the evenings, after a few days of feeling terrible all day!

tortoiseshell · 08/09/2005 10:19

Am 29 btw!

MrsQ · 08/09/2005 13:18

Hello All. I have def changed shape... but as have already put on about half a stone (I'm 11 wks today), not really sure if its bump yet or simply as a result of the HUGE amounts of food I'm eating. Getting really tired of ms and actually really bored of eating all the time. (Very strange occurence in my life!) Tried just eating apples etc to keep ms at bay but they just don't have the same affect as peanut butter on toast! Anything salty was a distinct craving with me last time (DS is 2 and a bit), and probably is this time too. LOL at the marmite sandwich - during last pregnancy went from an absolute hate the stuff person, to having it on toast every day (which was handy when I was trying to lose last time's weight as its zero WW points!).

FT40 - welcome. Which way round are your scans? You don't need a particularly full bladder for the nuchral normally so hopefully that will be second, as the first one is more than likely to give you the urge to empty any kind of full bladder. Altho you've probably got much better control over that whole area as this is your FT

Hello everyone, I am finally feeling sick and tired so relieved.... Had an early scan re previous mc and all so far so good, heart beat present.
What is the advantage of a private scan over NHS one do they do anything different?

colditz · 08/09/2005 15:09

Hello everyone, I've not been here for a while so a brief update....

My midwife has agreed to let me use EMLA cream and gas and air for my blood tests, as I am hysterically phobic around needles and am actually worse this time round than with my last one.

I suspect they all think I'm nuts, but the gas and air makes a huge differance to my whole attitude towards this pregnancy. It's not the labour I'm scared of, it's needles!

Oh, and to top it off? I'm A Rh Neg.

FirstTimer40 · 08/09/2005 15:52

Hi again
thanks for the welcomes.
Today is a bad day, stonking headache and nausea, at work and keep dashing off to loos as think am going to be sick but never am. In between I am eating loads, very strange.
Re nuchal fold scan (private £150 as NHS dont offer in my area), someone asked the difference, my understanding is that they measure thickness of fold back neck, look at nasal bone and size of fetus and combine this with results of 5 blood tests (GP takes my blood few days before scan, sent off to Harley St for analysis and results are faxed to people doing scan, so that at same appointment and straight after I get results combined and explained to me. Think it only tells you risk (and not definite) Downs.
The NHS scan I think is to check heartbeat, number of babies (blimey!) and size. Does that sound right
The nuchal one is in the morning and the other one afternoon so I will just drink lots on the drive at lunchtime.
I was 10st12 and am only 5ft 2 before this and have put on almost half stone already - destined to be circular I think.
How is everyone today ?:0

MrsQ · 08/09/2005 18:58

Sounds about right. The 'NHS' one will also measure the baby to see how it compares size wise to the 'average' (not that ultimately that means much later on - they sent me for a load of extra scans towards the end of pg with DS cos they thought he was going to be a whopper and he was 'only' 8.5 in the end.

The nuchal scan can also give an indication of liklehood of some chromosonal (sp?) defects. But Downs is the main thing they're looking at.

I've not come across such a distinct 'postcode lottery' in the NHS before. In my area we get nuchal on the NHS too - you have to go to a different hospital but a couple of quid train fare is a lot nicer than a bill for 150 quid. ouch.
