Morning ladies. Hope you are all well

OUR BABIES ARE DUE* THIS MONTH!!!!!

LittleOneMum Congratulations!! Lovely name.

Squirtsmum sounds like you have been busy already!!

Heffa that's nice of her offering to buy a double buggy. They are always useful to have, especially if the older ones not feeling too well or really tired.

sweetkitty last saturday pregnant for you!! Thats a way of looking at it!! Hope the BH have eased off.

What was ilovesprouts saying??

gils the charm bracelet is a lovely idea. I am not sure we are getting all our lot anything from the baby, but DH did suggest getting dd2 an 'i'm the big sister' tshirt, cos thats all she goes on about, being a big sister!! I know its probably a bit tacky but she will love it. Apparently at nursery she can't contain her excitement!!!

moggmum don't worry about the head not engaging yet, dd2 didn't til I was in full labour!!

LuckyC another thread sounds a good idea!

sassles 6lb 8 is nice. I don't make little babies

pigley hows the bum?!

alle are you still hanging on?!?

pagen congratulations!!

I am just sat having breakfast now. The kids are watching telly so all is quiet for now. DH is working all bank holiday weekend Thursday night I really thought something was happening, I was having contractions til 4am, then I finally fell asleep about 6am, got up at 7 and had a few more throughout yesterday but thats it. I want it to hang on til monday anyway when I will be 37 weeks cos then I can go on the MU instead of consultant. After such an awful night I was hoping that I would sleep last night and I did quite well. Only had to get up the once. I pampered my feet (in a fashion!) and used some lavender lotion on my legs and feet. Didn't get as many cramps in my legs last night either, so whether it did aything??

Morning all

Congratulations Littleone, hope you feel better soon

LuckyC - glad your dd is better now, that must have been stressful for you. Enjoy the weekend.

Squirt - hope Sod's law takes effect this week. Sounds like your in nesting overdrive.

Heffa - good news on the double buggy, my dm has bought a second hand one too for me and dsis to share between us. We weren't going to get one but she insisted so will bow to her superior knowledge. Bet she's bloody right too

SK - wohoo, can't believe its May already. I'm swinging between nervous and excited and terrified and happy, hopefully not too much longer for all of us, especially you.

Gils - maybe things are imminent, hope dh doesn't go too far.

Tomlin - my bp went up dramatically in the last 7-14 days before dd was born. Its usually low so was sent in for monitoring three or four times, full bloods done each time and everything was fine. On the last visit the mw said I would be back in soon as I was having mild regular tightenings, dd was born 24 hours later.

Mollybob - nice to hear from you, glad your well

BRB - glad your home, any name yet?

Well, off to get ready for dd's dance class and then off the mil's. Dh is working there this weekend but it's about an hour a way so will have a drive up this afternoon and hopefully manage to scrounge some tea Hope the weather perks up for the bank holiday.

Carikube · 01/05/2010 09:20

Morning all,

Congrats littleone on the safe arrival of Lux and hope that you don't feel too rough for too long.

DD had another bad night but for once DH got up with her and slept with her in the spare room. So of course I ended up having bad heartburn and had to get up in the night to try and make myself more comfortable. DH is now having a lie-in whilst DD and I flob out watching tv - no idea what is wrong with her and making her wake up screaming but that's the second time in a week. Hope it doesn't carry on for too long as I think we're going to have enough disturbed sleep soon!

Hope you all have good long weekends and look forward to hearing of more arrivals now we're in to May

rachelfruitloop · 01/05/2010 09:22

CONGRATULATIONS Littleonemum!! Lux is a beautiful name! Hope you recover soon, so glad to hear that she's doing well!

The messages from ILoveSprouts said she was due on 30 April but there was no sign of delivery so wanted to join the May thread, but maybe we scared her away by the sheer volume of posts we generate! Also, her posts were short and written in third person which was a bit hard to follow at first. Maybe she decided to stay with the April girls after all, or perhaps she went into labour?!

I'll be writing more later, just to warn you! :-D

rachelfruitloop · 01/05/2010 09:39

Just had a little snoop and the April ladies persuaded sprouts to stay on their thread.

sweetkitty · 01/05/2010 10:00

Thanks rachel cleared that one up, oh I think you must stay on your original thread as all your friends are there even if you do go overdue or even early. I'm surprised we didn't have more April babies really and hoping we don't have any June ones for the poor ones at the end of the month. I must admit I am happier being at the start of the month, have been second to last off an antenatal thread.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 01/05/2010 10:16

Congratulations Littleonemum- beautiful names, and another girl! Not many boys on the new arrivals list yet.

Rachel - was that your shortest post ever??!! I think you're right about what Ilovesprouts was saying, although I got the impression that she was actually expecting a grandchild in April, not her own baby - I understood her to be saying that her DD, who is 18, was expecting her first baby in April but was overdue so she (sprouts) was joining the May thread instead as April thread had emptied out as everyone gave birth and popped off to the postnatal threads. I might have misunderstood though! Can't blame her for wanting a bit of company - although maybe we scared her off, as the posts have been deleted now .

My midwife appointment yesterday afternoon was good. BP completely back to normal, and she said she thought there wasn't anything wrong at all, and that I was probably just a bit stressed the day before from having to wait to see the consultant and find out what they would say about the growth scan. She didn't think it was really necessary for me to go for another growth scan next week as monitoring had been good and my bump had grown nearly 5cm in the last 2 weeks. But I said I'd go anyway - don't want to give them any excuse not to let me give birth in the home-from-home (MLU) bit!

LuckyC - glad you're back home, it sounds like you've been through a stressful time. Hope things calm down for you and Matilda now.

Tomlin your appointment and BP issues sound remarkably similar to my experience this week, you have my sympathies. I found it so frustrating, particularly when you know that you feel fine within yourself. I suppose I would rather that they err on the side of caution, but when you then end up spending time going backwards and forwards to further (in the end unnecessary) appointments, it is a bit irritating.

Squirt - can't believe you have achieved so much already this morning - don't blame you for having a rest! I've managed to do one load of washing and have breakfast. DH is playing golf so it's nice and peaceful here (TV's permanently on when he's at home!).

Angel - "due this month" - feels so strange to be able to say that at last!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 01/05/2010 10:22

x-post Rachel and SK!

alle01 · 01/05/2010 10:23

hi all
still overdue, had been having some 'stronger' contractions, but nothing happened as yet, very tired though, can't be bother to do anything... congratulations to the new arrivals

pigleychez · 01/05/2010 10:24

Morning all,

Just made some Malteser fridge cake so looking forward to tucking into them later. Started off doing it with DD but she is more interested in DH today so joined him upstairs doing the hoovering

Shopping last night was terrible as ive bought so many naughties! 3 tubs of pringles, 2 bags of maltesers and a HUGE choc cake that you stick in the micorwave to heat and makes the sauce go really gooey- Mmmmmmmm Had a quarter each last night and will have the rest tonight. I can almost feel my sugar levels rising already

Had an amusing MSN conversation with my mum last night re names. Again she was coming up with some howlers! I started throwing some back which she thinks im serious about. Good job i was joking as she kept saying things like " I really think you need to think more about names" and " You cant be serious".
Her ideal grandchild is a boy called Ron

DD has decided that bump is a girl and has been rubbing my tummy saying "Cute baby sister" -- Maybe she knows!

Sassles- How annoying that baby has now moved. My DD was the same... perfect the whole time then during labour turned back to back

Lucky- Glad Matilda is doing better now.

SK- DH said to me this morning in bed.. Its May now... Baby month!

Littleone- Huge Congratulations Lovely name. Hope you feel better soon.

Angel- Bums better now thanks

Sorry to hear about all the bad nights.

Just stuck some washing on the line but its suddenly gone very gloomy so maybe that wasnt the best idea! Typical bank holiday weather hey!

Gils · 01/05/2010 10:27

Just quick post to say congrats to Littleonemum.

All twinges have stopped, back a bit sore but think baby will be staying put for a while yet. Boo hiss

pigleychez · 01/05/2010 10:28

X post with MDM-

Glad the appointment went well and your BP was fine

Alle- Soon, I promise Hang in there.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/05/2010 10:36

Morning all, what's everyone got planned this weekend? Now walking hurts I feel a bit limited on where we can go so we seem to be at soft play all the bloomin' time. Still got a few things to do round the house so I'll try and get them done this weekend.

Need to finish off my hospital bag, buy snacks for it, spare batteries for the tens machine and write out my birth plan. Oh and I need a present for my big boy from his little sister, but I can't decide what to get him!

Congratulations littleonesmum, sorry it wasn't straightforward but you sound like you did well. Nice name you've chosen.

LuckyC, sorry lo had to go back into hospital, glad she's better now and you can enjoy getting to know her at home.

Tomlin, I went over by 5 days last time so expecting to go slightly nearer to due date this time but who knows!

memorylapse · 01/05/2010 11:13

congratulations Littleonemum..Lux is a lovely name..reminds me of a book I read called Lux the poet..

my nhs pregnancy desktop tells me Im due!..my due date is actually tuesday..seems strange to look at her now and think she should have still been tucked up inside me...

my two other youngest dcs have gone to florida today...I miss them already..however DH and I had a blissful lie in this morning,as Olivia went back to sleep after her early morning feed...weve discovered she sleeps better in her bouncy chair so in desperation..she went to bed in her bouncy chair last night..and slept from 1am through to 5 am

so this is officially the due month!I am excited for everyone.

Sassles · 01/05/2010 11:28

littleonesmum Congratulations and love the name.

pigleychaz mmm that malteser cake sounds sooo good. I have been craving hot custard recently. Not something I normally eat, but sooo good.

james I plan on having a very lazy saturday. DH just made us scrambled eggs and salmon and we're eating it in bed. Bliss.

I got a birthing ball from my friend who had the wee girl recently and tried sitting on it and leaning on it a bit last night, but didn;lt last too long. Was too tired and just wanted to lie down. Will persevere today and get this baby back in the right place.

Our village has a cattleshow today. It is actually really good fun. They have dog agility and showjumping and loads of stalls and bakery competitions etc. Problem is it is raining and is in a field, so will prob fall over if I go. Will see later though.

alle01 Hope things are happening for you.

MDM glad the BP has sorted itself out and you are on track for your home birth.

myangelwithin Glad you got a bit of a better rest last night.

Squirtsmum sorry you had bad night. I have a new one to add to thie list of needing to getup and turn etc. For some reason my ear shell is really hurting when I'm lying on my pillow. My cartilage in my ear is really solid (DH laughs at them all the time) and when I lie on something hard they get quite sore. For some reason m,y lovely soft pillow is now a hard surface and I wake up to need to turn cause my ear is sore. Don't think related to pregnancy at all, but quite funny.

Can't believe we are in May!! This is the month people!!

I'm due a week today. How crazy. DH and I haven't DTD in a wee while. He thinks it's a bit weird as the baby is right there and he thinks he'll know what we are doing! Will try to persuade him if I go overdue!

LuckyC · 01/05/2010 11:29

congrats pagen and littleonesmum

feeding time in the zoo again.

question please dummies - any advice? what age?

Cats and babies can't remember who asked but our very cuddly and interactive cat has not come near baby hates her. In fact he is heartbroken that i don't have time for him, poor thing.

Hope all well. Baby time soon! Excited for you all.

sorry short posts sure you will undrestnbad

Hobnobfanatic · 01/05/2010 11:59

Lucky =-dummies recommended nowadays, as they reduce the risk of cot death (IIRC).

I was strict that my LO only had it for sleep - not when awake - so teeth/speech wouldn't be affected. Nothing worse than when they rely on it being in their mouths 24/7.

My DD was completely hooked on dummies for sleeping - used to go to bed with about five - one in her mouth, one she'd rub on her nose (I think it was a breastfeeding sensation?), and others beside her, in case she lost any in the night!

On the eve of her third birthday, we posted them through the catflap for the dummy fairies to give to new babies, as she was a big girl now. As thanks, the fairies left her a bright red scooter by the back door the next morning and she never, ever asked for a dummy ever again. It went way smoother than I thought it would!

Hobnobfanatic · 01/05/2010 12:03

Congrats to Littleonesmum- too!

Can't wait to hear everyone's birth stories! PLease do fill us all in, when you have time. I think we've only had Memorylapse's story.

Really feels official now we're in May - and especially as people are sprogging who are AFTER me on the list!

I thought I was starting again last night, but luckily she stayed put as DP is away cos of the funeral... I think she'll be a night-time starter for the birth, as that's definitely when my BHs are at their strongest, most regular and most painful!

Have a good weekend, all... Will keep checking in for any more birth announcements! Our babies will love us when they are older, if they forever get their birthdays over the May Bank HOl - so fingers crossed for some more new arrivals!

TomlinTowers · 01/05/2010 12:11

Hi All

Many congrats LittleOnesMum - the start sounds a bit scary but glad everything went well in the end! I love the name - I think the list of names so far is really lovely!

LuckyC - I chose to give my DS1 a dummy because I didn't want him sucking his thumb (on the basis that you can take a dummy away later but can't remove a thumb (!)), and he was a really sucky baby. I think (but can't really remember) that I fed him myself for the first 6 weeks and basically by the end o that time he was using me to suckle himself to sleep, because there wasn't enough milk there (feeding was disrupted as he was in SCBU for a week and lost rooting reflex), and I was getting so sore and he was getting no nutrition, so I gave him a dummy to see if it worked and he took to it like anything. However, I was quite strict about when he could have it, and it was only ever when he was going to sleep, never when he was awake in the day. Now (at 2.11 years) he has the dummy for 10 minutes whilst he gets off to sleep and then spits it out once he is asleep. I was going to try to take it away, but decided against it at the moment because of all the changes due to happen. He also has regular dental check ups, and the dentist has never commented that it is damaging his teeth etc. I can't remember if there is any age limit etc to using a dummy but there are different sizes available in the supermarkets so just check you get the correct size. Oh, and they need changing fairly frequently particularly when they can chew the teats!

Pigley - if you have any difficulties eating that malteaser cake, then send a piece up here and I will find it a good home

Sassles - at your salmon and scrambled eggs - I can't remember the last time I had a lie in, or breakfast in bed (poor me!). I hope you enjoyed it!

ML - I'm glad your two got to go to Florida in the end, and the planes weren't still grounded! I'm sure they'll have a fab time - try and enjoy a little bit of peace and quiet!

Hollyoaks, SK and MDM - thanks for the advice on the BP. DH, Mum and Dad have gone into protective mode overdrive today - DH taken DS1 off for a bike ride, Mum has already rung three times to check I'm still conscious or something, and Dad is apparently "popping round" this afternoon to watch the football - I am not a football fan, so not sure whether this is meant to be benefit me or him! I am apparently to do nothing except sit with feet up - but sadly house does not clean and tidy itself! Have cancelled going out tonight though - was going to baby shower for friend I met through antenatal class last time who is now due her second two weeks after me, but thought I'd better not go just in case waters break all over her lovely cream carpets!!

Have also just entered DS1's vegetable plot in the local under-16s gardening competition - competitive Mum alert!!

Other than that, no news to report, no plans for the weekend other than rest (don't think DH will allow me to do anything else!) and hopefully going to May Day Fair in village on Monday afternoon as long as not kept in....

schipo · 01/05/2010 12:30

Littleone - yes, sorry it didn't go as you might have wanted - but in the end getting the baby born healthily is always the ultimate plan - and well done for getting that far. Hope you're feeling better soon too. Love the name Lux too!

BRB - congratulations on your homecoming

LuckyC - hope you can stick it out with us. I'm sure everyone here is v interested in postnatal progress. According to the girls who have gone early in my NCT group the weeks after the birth have been much harder than any type of labour they could imagine Hope Matilda gets stronger quickly.

Sassles - if you find anything that works in rotating your baby let me know! This baby has favoured facing left with back to the right from the beginning. I've been sleeping on my left and mostly sitting on a birthing ball with back straight for weeks too. If he ends up on the right, according to my NCT teacher, he'll have to turn through back to back in labour to get out which worries me too. Some days it does seem like he's flipped over to the other side but he'll be back again the next day. I'm not sure I really believe that they only rotate in one direction any more to be honest. I can't find any midwife who will confirm it. Most of them don't seem at all concerned about the baby being over the other side. The most I can get out of anyone about it is a shrug, and reassurances about the baby turning all the time, and very often just before labour.

Getting closer to being ready here. Bag/pushchair/birthing plan all done, finally. DH has a little book with all the info and numbers he needs. Latest job to is to get a mixer tap in the sink in the basement to attach a hose to so that we can fill the birthing pool. If I can get to the end of today (38 weeks today) at least we have a chance of a home birth so all the preparation won't have been a waste.

Another two weeks would still be nice tbh - no more though I hope. I can't imagine a sweep is any more pleasant than the perineum massage and that's bad enough! I'm full of awe and respect for the stoicism of all of you already having one.

Good luck whoever is next!

Quick question: is anyone buying a tin of formula, to keep in case bf doesn't work?

I was really lucky last time - LO took to BF like a pro and I fed until she was almost 3yo . BUt i have friends who successfully extended BF with one child, but not with another, so I'm not resting on my laurels.

We're pretty much out in the sticks here (it would be a 1.5- to 2-hour round trip to find a 24-hr supermarket) so just wondering if I should get a tin - and if so, which one. Are some brands better than others? Presumably all the info I need is on the tin - I've never made up a bottle in my life.

ANy experience/recommendations, anyone?

Hi all

hobnob I have bought a carton of formula just in case. DD was great at breastfeeding but I think it must depend on the child. Its just a disposable 50p type one.

DD had 2 sips of formula (like a cat) on night 3 and it never did her any harm. I know some people have bad experiences and I am no expert etc etc. I just didnt have enough milk for her. I had fed for 3 consecutive hours constantly and midwife recommended it.

Congrats littleone

LittleonesMum - Congratulations!! Fantastic name

Re dummies - DD never went for them but when she started showing signs of wanting comfort we encouraged her to go for a cuddly toy instead so she has her bunny instead of needing a dummy or sucking her thumb. Not sure how much of it was down to us and how much was just chance though.

Hobnob - we have a couple of cartons of formula in case bf doesn't work. It didn't last time for me, I expressed all her feeds but supply dried up and I had to switch to formula eventually. It was a bit of an emergency when it happened so was very grateful to have a carton in the cupboard. Like you, it's a 2 hour round trip from here to get a 24hr supermarket (not even sure there is one there either) so it's useful to have it here. We used Aptamil last time but only because a couple of other brands we used made her throw up - every baby is different though.

Have been out to get my double buggy so now have a Jane Powertwin in the hall. Very grateful to my lovely mum, we weren't going to buy one because we couldn't really afford it but I've been worrying about how I'd cope without one.

Also had another sweep this morning but they could actually do it this time and said that my cervix was very soft. Hopefully it all helps get things ready if I need to be induced or something anyway. To be honest, I don't find them painful or uncomfortable but I've probably been lucky.
