OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cupcakefairy · 30/04/2010 12:23

I've been scoffing the pulses and spinach too alle to try and raise my levels! Dh bought liver cos knew it was high in iron and when I told mw she said 'ooh gold star' but then I got a letter from hospital yesterday to tell me (again) that I'm anaemic and it said you should avoid liver while pregnant (this is cos of vitamin a right?) so now I am confused as the mw didn't say 'ooh don't eat that.'

My levels were 9.9 but now at 10.6. Apparently in the past you weren't allowed to deliver on MLU if you were 10.5 or below but now they've brought that down to 7 or something so we should all be fine in that sense

I'm quite comforted to hear people saying contractions are like bad period pains.. I have/had horrendous period pains (work once had to call an ambulance cos I'd gone into shock etc ) and have handled them so think I can do it! My Mum has always told me having a baby will stop my awful period pain so she'd better be right!
Friends of ours said when she was in labour with their first they were both saying 'we're only having one, one child is enough!' because it was so horrible but they've since had another so must be some truth in mother nature helping you forget

carikube glad you're feeling a little better. We didn't have any Downs screening tests etc either and I have been worried the last couple of weeks that there could be something wrong & we don't know it (but still glad we didn't have tests)

pagen huge congrats!! Lovely news

sassles well done, it's over now so put your feet up!

re parents and ILs ours have been srprisingly quiet considering it's first GC for both sides! I expect once we're into May I'll be getting more phone calls though!

Been thinking about some of our ladies who haven't posted in ages... like sophie, I wonder if the twins have made an appearance yet... and molly who I know was having a hard time in the middle of the pregnancy... hope we get some of them back soon!

DH and I are off for a final night away tonight to a hotel/spa- very excited I get to wear my maternity tankini that actually fits properly now! And apparently hot tubs/jacuzzis can help get labour going

Hobnobfanatic · 30/04/2010 13:14

Cupcake - yep, best to avoid liver in pregnancy, though my mw said it was generally a precaution against a lunatic fringe in America that were eating masses of it raw and then encountering problem. I'm sure a small bit, well cooked, would be fine, but do check with your mw again.

And I thought jacuzzis etc were not advised for pregnancy either. Don't know why! Though a friend's labour kicked off after she had a dip in one, so maybe it's not banned?

Enjoy your night away. FWIW, my period pains were awful before DD1. They have been quite bearable, almost normal, since, so your mum might be right! Hope yours calm down post-birth!

pigleychez · 30/04/2010 13:34

Cupcake- Yes Liver is high in Vitamin A which they say to avoid. (not sure why)

When i went to the Spa day for the Hen weekend, I was told to avoid the hotubs, and jucuzzi's but was allowed to sit on the side with my feet in it. The baby cant regulate its temperature when in the hot water. My friends described it as "Boil in the bag!"

MDM- Glad the BP checks went well. I was constantly sent for monitoring with DD because of high bp. MW said it can be quite common to rise towards the end of pregnancy but they need to be sure.

Happenedagain- Hope you get some revision done today.
I think i made my pulled muscle worse last night DH and I had "Relations!" Think its the first time since conception! Was abit tricky getting round the bump but fun none the less!

Workmen have finished the side path and the guys are just finishing off my new front door- Looks very posh

cupcakefairy · 30/04/2010 13:49

Thanks I did know we're not meant to go in hot tubs etc but if it kicks off labour I might be tempted!

Lol, pigley at the pulled muscle! Dh and I have still managed to DTD a few times since being pregnant but it is odd qith huge bump. I feel I should make a big effort in these last couple of weeks though because he certainly won't be seeing any action for a while post-birth!!

pamelat · 30/04/2010 13:51

cupcake I have also been told that jacuzzi/sauna etc are not "allowed" whilst pregnant. Over heating is a problem for the baby.

I do know one person who went in to one at 7 months pregnant and it brought on labour. Baby was fine but she swears it was the hot tub that did it.

Hope everyone is ok. DD wont nap today so will be a nightmare later. However my mum is coming round in an hour which will help. I have left DD up in her cot but she is singing/shouting at the top of her voice. She seems happy though!

Been to toddlers this morning, she was really clingy. Think she realises about babys imminent arrival.

sweetkitty · 30/04/2010 14:34

Erm I'm lol at the contractions being forgotten bit. I haven't forgotten them, mine were not like period pains at all maybe as I am very fast and furious with just getting over one and the next one would start. I laugh as I think BHs are sore until a real contraction hits you. I actually quite fancy the idea of having an epidural and just being told when to push

I think a small bit of liver isn't going to do you much harm TBH. You would have to eat tonnes of it to get loads of vitamin A.

pigley - relations have forgotten what they are, did as DP who said "no chance!"

DD3 is feeling better not 100% but no sick today

Sassles · 30/04/2010 15:40

Wee quick post asheading back out to see friend who had lovely wee girl two weeks ago. 6 pounds 8. I'm quite jealous!

Just had midwife appoint and I think my willing baby not to come before interview worked far too well. After head being engaged and baby in perfect position for weeks now, the head is now free and baby turned back to back. Due week tomorrow. I'm a bit mad .

I sleep on my left side all the time and was sitting up straigh leaning slightly forward at work up till a few days ago. Any tips?

memorylapse · 30/04/2010 16:09

Jacuzzies/saunas are not a good idea as they can cause you to overheat.

liver is high in vit a which can cause birth defects..however when I was pregnant with dd1..we were told to eat it!

relations?? what are they??..think I vaguely remember indulging what seems like an eternity ago....its a good idea to have sex before the post natal check as it means if there are any problems you can bring them up at the check..

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/04/2010 17:00

Hello all, not much to report here, still plodding along. Thought I had a show last night, and really really panicked. It wasn't a show but I'm worried about not coping now. Got my maternity tens at last, the instructions are really complicated, not sure I'll figure them out in time for them to be useful!

Baby was doing huge wriggling motions last night, and I think she may be more engaged now with her bum facing outwards, which is good as she's always been back to back. SPD has finally kicked in properly now, and every time I get a full bladder I'm in lots of pain as it puts pressure on the front of my pelvis. Can't turn over in bed now, or get comfy. I'm so tired, could do with a full nights sleep!

Saw my consultant the other day who said everything was normal so I can just see a mw now. He said they'd "allow" me to go to 10 days overdue before they'd want to induce, but there was no talk of sweeps don't fancy them at all.

Hope you're all doing ok, I have read through the thread but I swear there are twice as many ladies on this thread as my previous antenatal thread and it's hard to speak to everyone personally. Congratulations on the arrival of Jack John, Pagen. 30 hours! you did well.

Hi ladies

just home from hospital today

I am also really surprised there havent been more arrivals

Wee one is doing great, she has a touch of jaundice which the MW said was common at day 3/4/5.

Hope everyone is doing well, I will catch up when i get some spare time!

Congratulations to all the arrivals so far

LuckyC · 30/04/2010 19:10

congrats BRB and littleowls

Matilda and I have had a bad week - poor little duck developed infectionm, we have been back in hospital, then transferred to JR, and she has been on IV drip. God childrten's hospitals are awful awful all those sick kids, so upsetting. So a tough time but we are

HOME

which is just fantastic and she is recovering nicelyt docs are pleased with her.

We have only had one day at home since she was born so this weekend will be the best.

Hope all well. Sorry all posts about me now but genuinely no time to read.

How do we feel about an antenatal thread running parallel with this one???? Only sometimes it is hard to get heard in all the excited and happy pre-baby chatter

xx

TomlinTowers · 30/04/2010 21:03

Hi All

Good to hear from you LuckyC and BRB - glad to hear that Matilda is home, Lucky, and is picking up. That is really good news. Hope LittleOwls will be home soon too.

I think other people have posted about a post-natal thread and the general consensus was to wait until after everyone had delivered, otherwise it gets lonely for those at the end of the list or who go overdue if everyone moves to the post-natal thread. However, I'm happy to go with the majority view.

Sassles - the tips I was given for DS1 was to lean forward on knees with arms on birthing ball/chair, so baby has room to "drop" forward, and then to rock bum side to side - not dignified in any way and likely to induce hysterical laughter if done in front of DP/DH! However, have done this with both and both in good position so maybe there is some truth in it?!

James - I am with you on the pain with full bladder, not being able to turn over, etc! Not much longer now - did you go over with your first?

Pigley - on relations - we did it right up to day before DS1 was born first time round, but I suggested it to DH a few nights ago and he looked at me in horror, looked at the bump, and then looked back at me with even more horror! However, we did get back in the saddle, so to speak, about 6 weeks after DS1 birth mainly because I wanted to check everything was still in working order, so hopefully the same will happen with this one!!

Itshappened - good luck with the decorating, hope it gets done before you go!!

Well, I had my 38 week MW appt today and can feel for you now Carikube and MDM. Always been absolutely fine, but had BP checked today and although it was within normal range it was high for me. My BP is fairly low and was 110/55 at booking in, and today was 115/79 in left arm and 120/80 in right arm. So, been told to rest over the weekend, and then go in first thing to hospital on Monday for BP to be checked again. MW pretty confident it's not pre-eclampsia as no protein in urine, no swelling, no headaches or flashing lights, and didn't get any problems with DS1 so unlikely to develop in second preg, but have to be rechecked on Monday just to be on safe side. So, that's a bit of a downer on the bank holiday! Am half hoping that when I go in on Monday will still be normal but high, and they will offer to induce as will be 38+3 by that time, and would like to just get in kicked off now, but we will see what happens.

Other than that, baby is fully engaged, MW couldn't even feel any part of the head today, just the shoulders. Am also getting more regular BHs every 20 minutes and MW agrees with me that mucous thing on Wednesday night probably was bit of my plug, so who knows, might not even get to Monday!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Gils · 30/04/2010 22:02

Hi all hope we are all doing fine.

Taken quite a few BH/contractions this afternoon, enough for me to phone and tell DH to park up early tonight and therefore closer to home. Feel a bit daft now cuase everything seems to have calmed down but better safe than sorry.

DSis bought me a exercise ball yesterday so will need to get out of car, see if I can't shuggle things along.

I have been having loads of mucusy discharge through whole preg and seems to be calming down now!

Away to catch up on Greys from last night ad chill.

mollybob · 30/04/2010 22:08

oooh - new thread - wow

I am so rubbish at keeping up - seem to do nothing but nest and sleep - par for the course I guess. I'm ok - saw consultant yesterday for first time and baby growing well on scan and is head down so good to go as I'm 37 weeks tomorrow BUT have big and very healthy placenta with no sign of calcification so not starting to fail so expect this one will be late rather than early. I'm focussing on my 42 weeks date/induction for post dates deadline of 5th June so I won't be too disappointed when I go over.

Congrats to all our new arrivals!I'm in that place where I'm just so looking forward to meeting my new DC - hope all is going well and you're getting good pampering ML luckyC FS BRB littleowls - hope I haven't missed anyone and especially pagen - apparently less than 1 in 20 babies arrive on their due date

oooh pigley pulled muscle indeed!!!! - DH is now happier with the concept of DTD as if it brings on labour there's no problem (we did have a wee scare about my waters going after DTD a few weeks ago and he's been a bit [hmmm] but now I'm term he's good to go - not sure I am

MDM nightmare spending all day in hospital - glad all is well though!

Gils - yeh I started with BH when DC was still breech about 8 weeks ago so you don't have to be engaged - I'm getting them more and more and head still not engaged but deffo lower as bladder now has capacity of a very small thimble...

MDM and squirts - I have potential sweep date at 39+5 but not convinced either... good luck with yours heffa - I had one with DS and it did nothing and the consultant had the biggest hands ever. Did nothing for me - neither did the curries, sex, clary sage, castor oil, raspberry leaf tea etc etc

five sorry about your loss - dreadful

sorry you're having a rough day hollyoaks I seem to get a rough day about twice a week when I feel similar Hope you have a restful bank holiday weekend

hope DS feels better soon mustbemadno3 - my DS is also 12 and loses everything so it's not just you. Is DS worrying about the baby? My DS definitely isn't but DD (she's 9) is very stressed.

not long now SK cupcakefairy - yes mother nature does make you forget - until you find yourself back here and wonder why you forgot!

fab news on the ECV pamelat - you've reminded me I'd better get my tens too!

hope you feel better too kaffacakes - have the same thing with my legs as the day progresses

carikube we refused down's screening too and I'm ancient - determinedly not thinking about it though

sassles good luck with interview

twentieth fingers crossed here too and re garden - ours is embarassing and if DH doesn't sort it soon I will kill him (maybe I need to bribe him with offers of DTD though

tomlin sounds a lovely day out

phew - hope I've not missed anything important

MoggMum · 30/04/2010 22:15

Cograts to Pagen & BRB on your new arrivals . LuckyC sorry to hear you've had a tough week but glad you're home now.

Tomlin hope things go ok for you at hospital on Monday.

Had my 38 week MW appointment today too - all ok and baby is in good position but head is not engaged at all . I thought this happened quite early with first babies but MW not too concerned. I don't think this baby's in any rush to come out & will probably be late

Sassles hope your baby engages again soon too!

As for 'relations' still managing to DTD (as Cupcake so aptly put it!) and have told DH that if I do go overdue I may need his help to get things started!!

Gils · 30/04/2010 22:43

LuckyC Sorry Matilda has been back in hospital. Hope everything is moving in the right direction now and you enjoy your first weekend at home!!

Gils · 01/05/2010 00:02

Me again, quick post.

Thinking of getting DD (3 in sept) a charm bracelet from lo that she can keep and add to. Anyone have any recommendations? Saw a very sweet mummy and me bracelet set from a company tales from the earth too.

Prob looking at spending £40 max

sweetkitty · 01/05/2010 07:07

Morning everyone me here again mega early, got woken by BHs still last Saturday being pregnant ever! And it's the 1st of May!

Gils - a charm bracelet sounds a lovely present, I would also get something like a teddy or a dolly that she can play with as well IYSWIM?

moggmum - I wouldn't worry too much about the head engaging they can pop in and out and 38 weeks is still 2 weeks away from term plenty of time yet.

mollybob - yey on the good looking placenta, I do believe that some people just carry babies for longer than others, for some women 42 weeks is normal and not overdue, loads of threads on MN about it.

Tomlin - sounds like you are almost there with a fully engaged baby and part of the plug away too, maybe your BP is up because your body knows something is about to happen?

LuckyC - sorry to hear about Matilda being poorly but I bet your are glad all to be home now, enjoy your first weekend with your baby. Like Tomlin I think the consensus was that we all stick together until after the last baby as born as it can be very lonely if you are the last one or two on the thread as everyone else has crossed over so to speak. And we want all the new baby talk on here as well. So how does it feel to be a Mum has it sunk in yet?

brightred - home from hospital already do you have a name yet?

ilovespouts what was that all about then????

James - am so with you on the full bladder thing, so painfu. I hope you don't go 10 days over either.

Sassles - well done you on doing your gruelling interview don't think I said that. I think these babies just like to move around all over the place too

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 01/05/2010 08:18

LuckyC - sorry you and Matilda have been back in hospital. Glad she's OK now, hope you enjoy a lovely long weekend at home together

Gils - charm bracelet is a lovely idea. DD has one from her christening from a local jewellers. It's gorgeous. Not sure how much it cost though since someone else bought it for her.

What was ilovesprouts saying?

My mum offered to buy us a secondhand double buggy yesterday which was very kind of her. I've been worrying about how I'll cope on days when DD isn't being co-operative so will be nice to have the choice.

Mollybob - glad you're OK and everything's looking healthy.

Re DTD - we have a couple of times to try and get things ready (rather than started) but it really hasn't been terribly romantic. Not sure either of us were that keen tbh.

LittleOneMum · 01/05/2010 08:29

Hello ladies... Just wanted to let you know that there has been another April arrival. My daughter Lux Emilie was born at 9.40pm on 29th. I was admitted with severe pains which turned out to be the beginnings of my previous scar rupturing so crash section and out she came. She is really well but I feel pretty awful... Can someone add me to arrivals? She was 7lbs 7. Sorry not to have posted more but have been reading and wish everyone safe deliveries xxi

SquirtsMum · 01/05/2010 08:32

Morning all

Barely slept last night - too hot, too cold, couldn't get comfy, BH's, acid relux..... you ladies know the score lol

Up at 6.30am and have already done a load of washing, swept and mopped the kitchen, lounge and the bathroom, dusted in the lounge and generally tidied in kitchen, done last nights washing up and started on the ironing mountain pile I've ignored for a week!! Notice I say started not finished.... got bored so thought I'd have a little rest Feel the need for a shopping splurge today, haven't wanted to shop for myself at all this pregnancy but now the end is in sight I want a new wardrobe something new

Have decided to book a hair appointment for nxt week in the hope Sod's Law comes into effect, also planned cinema trip on tues (due date) to see Iron Man 2 and a meal out with DP - nothing that can't be cancelled at short notice, though think DP will be v annoyed at missing the film tho (he's like a big kid) lol

Birthday gathering for one of DP's nephews tomorrow and hoping the camera won't come out, wishful thinking tbh, I feel like a beached whale

Hope everyone has a nice weekend planned and the weather holds out for those with gardens

SquirtsMum · 01/05/2010 08:35

Congratulations LittleOneMum what a fabulous name Hope you begin to feel better soon

xxx

sweetkitty · 01/05/2010 08:51

Congratulations Littleonesmum - lovely names Lux is latin for light isn't it?

squirtsmum - it's pouring with rain here typical bank hol weekend

Heffa - I think a double is a good idea, there's some days you can saunter laong at toddler pace and other days when you just need to strap them both in and go, also when it is raining it's nicer for the toddler to be undercover.

There was some weird messages last night didn't understand them
