Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AnAngelWithin · 01/05/2010 12:59

Hobnob, I have bought 3 ready made cartons of first stage milk just in case. I refuse to get myself in a state about feeding!! I can't afford to this time around with 4 others to look after!! I am aiming to breastfeed, but have bought all the bottles and everything in case. I want DH to be able to feed the baby, but if i can't get the hang of expressing then I will let the baby have just the one bottle of formula so DH can help. We have always used the farleys first milk, its called heinz nurture now though i think. I bought the ready made as well becuase if you are giving it in a moment of desperation, its easier than trying to make a feed up with powder, cooling the boiled water etc.

mollybob · 01/05/2010 13:18

I haven't bought any formula myself although I did last time but there is a 24h supermarket 30mins away and one open until midnight 5 mins away so I'll get DH to go and get anything we need if there's a problem. I got so distressed at failed bf first time round but all went well last time. If I still lived in the sticks I'd have some emergency supplies in too.

DS and DD didn't go for dummies - DS wasn't a sucky baby but DD was and the only comforter that worked was me but after 2 weeks my nipples weren't at all sore so I went with it - had no choice - her response to the dummy was "what is this?????" In fcat she was much the same with bottles but would take them as long as I wasn't around!

Hope the sweep works 20thcenturyheffa - the sweep I had with DS hurt but the obstetrician had scary big hands - with DD it was ok - also think it hurts more if your cervix is further back - sounds like yours is getting ready

Happy due date month everyone

pigleychez · 01/05/2010 13:19

hehe, DH has just been caught nibbling some of my malteser cake out the fridge. Typically though he knocked the bottle of Mango sauce, dropping it and smashing it all over the kitchen floor! Serves him right!

ML- Glad you got a nice lay in

Lucky- DD never had a dummy. From working in a nursery I saw so many kids with them constantly in that never needed them and was adament that I wouldnt do that.
There was the times when i almost bought one but would always end up putting it back before I got to the till.
Hoping not to need one this time either.

Hobnob- I intend to buy a couple of ready made cartons just in case too.- You reminded me actually! Dont want to be stuck with a screaming baby and not being able to feed them as the shops are shut.
The cartons are also fab for long days out too as you dont have to worry about hot water flasks and such. We got DD used to room temp bottles when she moved to formula which was soooo much easier. We used Aptimal with DD as the MW said thats the one they used in special care.

Heffa- Hope the sweep helps then

AnAngelWithin · 01/05/2010 13:29

lol pigley!! SPRUUUUUUUUUNG!!! how do you make that malteser cake?? I do one with chocolate and digestives in it but fancy a change.

OP posts:
pigleychez · 01/05/2010 13:46

Angel- More of a bar/slice than cake but still yummy- and incredible bad for you!

85g Butter
2tbsp Golden Syrup
2tbsp Cocoa Powder
170g Digestive Biscuits (crushed)
175g Maltesers (half crushed/half whole)

Line tray with clingfilm
Melt the butter & syrup together in a pan, stir in the cocoa powder. Add the crushed digestives & crushed Maltesers, allow to cool just slightly then add the whole Maltesers. Put the mixture into a tin & chill in the fridge for about 2 hours. Cut into slices and serve.

AnAngelWithin · 01/05/2010 14:08

ooh that sounds similar to the one i make!! must try it though!! thanks!

OP posts:
Carikube · 01/05/2010 14:09

Pigley I am liking the sound of that recipe - if I wasn't off caffeine at the moment (no chocolate!!!!) then I would be making it myself (though DH has asked me to make a note of it so I can make it once LO is here)

Schipo I sleep on my left so have been quite bemused that LO seems to still be with its back to the right. MW doesn't seem worried about it though - in fact she told me it was in an ideal position so I just hope that it is all ok for labour.

Re dummies - DD never had one. She went through a very short phase where she would only go to sleep if she were sucking on one of our fingers but that only last for about a week. I don't intend to use one this time round either but we shall see.

Re formula - with DD I got some cartons in so that if there were ever an emergency (eg the famous getting-run-over-by-a-bus scenario) she would still be fed even if I couldn't do it. I only managed to feed for about 6 weeks so then we moved to SMA (no particular reason but it's cheaper than Aptamil [tightwad emoticon again!]). We still have one tin left so I know that we can feed LO if necessary but I'm really determined for the bf to go better this time....

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 01/05/2010 14:17

Pigley - love it! Your DH was completely busted there with the cake. LOL at ideal grandchild being boy called Ron.

Just been out to get a picture framed that MIL and FIL had bought for the baby's room. We had actually chosen the picture ourselves, but hadn't realised it came in different sizes, and they got us the largest size, which of course doesn't fit any standard frames, so needed to get one made. Quote came in at £90 . It's going to be enormous, not even sure I love the picture that much any more!

james - also need to put the finishing touches to my hospital bag, and put together a hospital bag for DH with a change of clothes, snacks camera etc. Tomorrow we're going to a party for some friends who are moving abroad, then Monday hoping to visit my DSis and BIL and my brand new niece, can't wait!

All this talk about it being a May bank holiday weekend has reminded me that it's our wedding anniversary on the end of May bank holiday weekend. Must start thinking now about a present for DH (and drop hints to him for mine!) as am bound not to have time once LO arrives!

Am interested in the talk about getting some emergency supplies of formula just in case. I had considered doing that, but then thought I'll also need some bottles and then sterilising equipment too won't I? There are plenty of 24hr petrol stations with mini tescos / sainsburys attached, and a couple of full on 24hr supermarkets within about 10 minutes' drive of our house, so I think I might just take the risk, and send DH out for supplies if the need arises.

AnAngelWithin · 01/05/2010 14:41

MDM you can buy ready sterilised bottles for emergencies! Can you take the picture back and get a smaller one?

OP posts:
MarquiseDeMerteuil · 01/05/2010 15:06

Good tip on the ready-sterilised bottles, thanks Angel. PILs bought the picture online, and I have stupidly thrown out the paperwork that would enable us to send it back. But you've given me an idea - have just checked the website that it came from, and it would actually be cheaper for me to order the picture again in a smaller size and get it framed. Will see what DH reckons when he gets back from golf. Don't want to offend his parents, but it was totally our own fault for not specifying which size we wanted.

pigleychez · 01/05/2010 15:23

MDM-Have you looked at Ikea online? I know they do some very large frames.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 01/05/2010 16:43

Pigley - great minds... - Ikea was my first port of call - unfortunately the picture isn't really a standard dimension, so the really large frames in Ikea weren't the right shape .

Have just been putting up some other pictures in the nursery that I made a couple of weeks ago. They're not really pictures as such, just coloured fabric squares that I've hung on the wall in rainbow order!

SquirtsMum · 01/05/2010 16:58

Wow, getting some formula in if BF'ing doesn't work - will get some cartons in on my next shop.. thank you for that ladies as it never even crossed my mind!!!!

Am paying for being up early and doing all that cleaning - fell asleep on the sofa soon after my post, DP dragged me to bed 30mins later and left me there till 1pm - he'd hoovered and dusted the rest of the house and it didn't even wake me... I really needed it obviously! He's disappeared to work now so may get blankie and curl up on the sofa for the rest of the day

xxxx

memorylapse · 01/05/2010 18:15

to those wanting to keep supplies in, in case of problems with breast feeding..you can buy ready made up bottles with sterilised teats from tesco or asda..we got some in just in case and glad I did as needed them when I was really poor;y with mastitis

luckyc..sorry to hear LO has been poorly..hope all is well now

pamelat · 01/05/2010 18:21

Hello all, I have bought steriliser and bottles too (recommend Dr Brown) as even though DD was great at breast feeding, by around month 4 I was shattered and needed to intersperse formula and breast feeds. At 5 months she was pretty much formula fed.

Had a nice day today just doing food shopping and buying DD a slide "from baby brother" in toys-r-us but annoyed with my usually supportive DH. He has been miserable and claims to have "a bit of a cold" and be tired. He just seems miserable and described our day as "getting through the day". It makes me cross when he seems to resent it, he plays hockey all winter so is used to saturday afternoons to himself. I really dont like it when he resents spending time pottering with us, chores need doing and I am heavily pregnant

Told him he was not being supportive and he said "this pregnancy lark is going on too long". I know he means it half in jest but really cross with him. Would like him to feel like this and see how he copes. Rant over He was brilliant during my first pregnancy.

memorylapse · 01/05/2010 18:36

Pamela...I sympathise..my DH said my induction date "couldnt have come a day too soon" and now is doing my head in as he has a cold (man flu)..hence lots of whinging, etc...

cupcakefairy · 01/05/2010 19:54

Hi girls
Firstly massive congrats to littleonemum- absolutely love the name too! The name of the main character in The Virgin Suicides - such a lovely & unusual name

luckyC glad you're home again and so lovely that you're so excited to have Matilda home for a proper weekend I think it was me who instigated the whole 'let's stay here til everyone's delivered' sorry... but just thought we'd all be reading 2 threads otherwise and hopefully more babies will be arriving soon so you won't feel so unheard

schipo at what your NCT friends said about the first couple of weeks. I am terrified enough, let's just have lovely stories about curled-up-comma babies who smell lovely please

molly hello! Glad you're ok

We don't have dummies or formula in but then we do live in a city centre so dh can get emergency supplies.

Very much sympathise with those who can't turn over in bed and that horrible pelvis pressure of a full bladder! Nasty!

sassle weirdly, I've had that ear pain thing too! I never had it before so maybe it is pregnancy related

Can't believe it's May

sweetkitty · 01/05/2010 20:47

Evening all I think this boy is playing football in here tonight, huge big painful movements.

pamela - my DP is on the whole great, he does all the housework including ironing and changes every nappy right now, I am expecting the backlash soon though a lot of "your not pregnant now!" coming up I fear. He does get annoyed with me moaning all the time but I would so love for him to have half a day being this pregnant. I think men get a bit frustrated when they cannot help as well.

Haven't bought any formula, have got two Tommee Tippee bottles and my breastpump from last time, threw my steriliser out as well as I never used it after DD1.

Dummies - I don't mind them on principle but like someone else said I hate the minute a baby or child whinges it gets plugged in to stop them crying. Also toddlers walking about trying to talk through dummies as well. DD1 was a thumb sucker and we have just weaned her off age 5 before her adult teeth come through. DD2 had a dummy for about a month before she spat it out and DD3 never had one at all despite me trying, she preferred Mummy-Dummy.

pigley - all this talk of chocolate, Maltesers is one of the few chocolate things I don't like but I had to have a Snickers today when DD2 was at dancing. Could have another one right now as well.

mollybob - your DD sounds like mine would only take a bottle if I wasn't around, would scream if I gave her a bottle until she got the real thing. I now know it's because she is an utter strong willed madam.

DP has never fed the babies as routine but I think when you have other children if he is around then he has to deal with them, plus it's a great excuse for not doing things "I am feeding the baby" whilst sitting or lying watching TV whilst he runs after toddlers also we have a pact he gets up to the other ones in the night as I have to get up to the baby all the time.

I have never done anything to get the babies into position, they swing all over the place but I think once labour begins they sort themselves out, I am hoping this one follows suit, all of mine have been born face down although DD1 came hand by her ear = lots of stitches and a tear.

tomlin - hope the BP has come down a bit today

LuckyC - the cat will soon reassess what time is baby free time and schedule his time around that I am sure, hope your having a lovely day with your new baby

SquirtsMum · 01/05/2010 21:29

Just a quick post - has anyone else suffered with VVV? If so was there anything that helped? Mine are horrendous after my afternoon snooze, so bad i'm lying on the sofa bottomless because everything and anything irritates them Normally I only really notice them if I'm on the toilet but had 2 bowel movements today (no need to strain IYKWIM) and they just feel huge not painful but grrrrr I know they are there!!!

xxxx

pigleychez · 01/05/2010 21:35

Pamlet- Had a similar thing here this morning.. DD was being moany and annoying but when i told her off DH would say that mummy was grumpy and in a bad mood .. Grrr.
We spoke about him not saying that as she picks up on it and it will make things worse, playing us off against each other. He thought i was being dramatic and said she was too young to understand that.
Although shes only 21mths shes incredibly with it!
Anyway later on whilst playing we both overheard her say to her dolly " Mummy bad mood" So DH is now eating his words and hasnt said it since

Today has just flown by even though we havent really done anything significant.

Ordered DD's birthday present today.- Not till the end of July but it was on offer over the bank holiday so made the most of the saving.
We have bought her a massive wooden Dutch barn style playhouse for the garden. Cant wait for it to come now and get it up. I want to play too

memorylapse · 01/05/2010 21:50

Squirtsmum..I had them with DD2..they were so sore..if its any consolation..they went away as soon as I gave birth..try sitting on an ice pack wrapped in a flannel..works great for piles too

Gils · 02/05/2010 08:05

Morning girls, hope everyone well.

I hd terrible night last night, lots of pains and felt very sick. Was how it all stared with DD so was quite excited as DH got home last nigt. Was gutted when DD came into room at 630 and I felt fine - well very tired.

Dummies DD never had one, did suck her thumb for little while but just stopped.

Bottles/formula I have bottles left from DD, bought 1 pack teats but no furmula. Loads of supermarkets round us so would just send out DH.

So tired today. DH is having lie in, gonna wake him up soon so I can get half hour. Have a blessing today. Last time our friends had a big family event was the wedding. DH was best man and it was my due date. Their families will think I am always pregnant!!

Enjoy your weekends and bank holidays. Looking forward to news of new babies.

Hollyoaks · 02/05/2010 08:32

Morning bumps, babies and tired ladies. Wow we can talk, there's too much to take in and I was only on yesterday.

Dummies - dd loved hers from an early age and still has it now (2.4) but only for bedtime. I can't see the harm in them, though we weaned her off them during the day a few months back as they were serving no purpose.

Milk - haven't got any in this time yet as I would like to try bf, though dh was sent out at 3 in the morning on day 3 with dd when I couldn't bf anymore. He came back with a variety of small ready-made formula cartons, we went with cow n gate (don't know why ), but because he had only bought one of each he was sent back out again at 7am and bought our local Tesco's out of stock.

Gils - I had a bad night like that two nights ago, don't remember that as much with dd, wonder if its a second-time round thing?

Pigley - the playhouse sounds fab, dh wants to make one for dd and lo. However, they'll probably be in high school before he gets round to it

SK - you don't like maltesers!!!!

Heffa - hope the sweep worked

Sorry if i've missed anything important but baby brain is affecting me badly this weekend. DH is working again today so going to have a lazy day with dd until a party she's been invited too at 3pm. It's at a soft play centre and I would love dh to be home to help, but can's see it happening . No enthusiasm for that today though tempted to go out and get a teddy for dd to give to baby, I'm not sure who mentioned that they had done that but thought it was a nice idea. I'm not sure how willing dd will be to give it up though, she does like her cuddlies.

Enjoy the rest of the day

mustbemadno3 · 02/05/2010 08:34

mollybob yes I am pretty sure my ds1 is anxious. Think he is worried I wont be here when he wakes in the morning and find our friends here! But hes panicking about the 4 of us becoming 5. He hates change but I am sure he will be less anxious when babys here. Also he is worried that baby will wake him in the night as he likes his sleep (not that you would know it at the minute)! My other ds is also 9 like yours. But he is excited and kisses my tummy all the time. Wont let me carry his school bags and panics if I step out onto the road when we walk to the bus stop! Maybe he will be less helpful when baby is here?

littleonesmum congratulations and what a lovely name.

Luckyc sorry to hear you had a rough time hope Matilda continues to improve. And dont go, Im sure once we have all popped we will have a new thread to join together.

Re - dummies my ds1 had one until he was 3 and then we hung it on the christmas tree for santa to take. He never asked for it again.
But ds2 wasnt interested in thumb sucking or dummies. Think he just liked to comfort feed from me. But he was a chilled baby and didnt cry much. Praying this ones the same, however, good baby resulted in nightmare child!!!

I have brought formula, bottles and sterilizer. I am going to try to bf but Im not going to get hung up about it like Angel said. I have 2 other children to think about and Im not sure how they will react to me bf, they are at an age especially ds1 he finds me being pregnant gross! Also some of you may think I am awful, but Im not 100% into breastfeeding. I would like to be as I know its best for baby, but I didnt really enjoy it last (although I do believe I bonded better by bf). Sorry!

Been having lots of contractions, diahorea, feeling sick. And is anyone else loosing lots of mucus? Mines got worse the last couple of days. Hate feeling like this, just seems to be so many false starts, rather it just happen, Im getting paranoid!

pigleychez · 02/05/2010 10:20

Gils- Sorry you had a bad night.
Its annoying isnt it when you are always thinking.."is this it?"

Hollyoaks- It was me who bought DD the teddy to give to baby. Shes so excited and looks at it everytime she goes into the nursery.
I remember giving my sister a teddy when i first saw her in hospital... It was a roland rat teddy (confused) and she cried at it for months.

I was wide awake at 4 this moring for a wee, then couldnt get back off as i was panicing the new playhouse was going to be too big! Its 6ft square and 6ft High! DH has assured me that although its a large playhouse it will be fine. Dont think he was too impressed at that time of the morning

Off to see both sets of parents today ( they live round the corner from each other so have to see both as not to upset anyone!)
Will have to take my hopsital bag though as its an hour away.
PIL's are off on holiday again tomorrow, so ive been told I cant have the baby next week. Then they are away again a week or 2 after my due date so not allowed to be late either!

Miserable rainy day here- Typical bank holiday!
