MoggMum · 18/05/2010 22:02

Carikube fingers crossed that LO arrives before your parents leave. It's so frustrating not knowing when/where/how it's going to happen. I always thought I'd be early too (not sure why!) but now I'm convinced I'm going the distance to 42 weeks.

pigley good luck with the BF and hope you feel less sore soon.

Lots of movement from LO tonight so hoping he/she will move away from the back-to-back position. Starting to worry that this will be a BIG baby now, especially after hearing about MinniMummy massive congrats due there!

memorylapse · 18/05/2010 22:52

Hi all

Feel a little better after yesterdays rant!

Sorry if this is TMI..but DH and I DTD this evening and it was ok..I think its always a bit weird that first time after giving birth...my loss seemed to have stopped in the last 48 hours..but had a pinky loss after..guess thats normal..

Huge congrats to all the new mums.

Kateyjane,Wibbela, Squirtsmum, sending labour vibes to all those waiting

Kateyjane..I dont think you sound melodramatic..my DS2 had to go to SCBU after he was born due to breathing difficulties and I actually found it very traumatic..remember we have carried our LO's around in our tummies for 9 months so when we give birth, we expect to have our LO's with us, its very distressing to have your baby taken off to SCBU..even if its just for observation..glad he is well and ok now

Rachel..so sorry to hear about your grandad..huge condolences..

Hobnob..you remind me of when I had DD1 (19 years ago) x p and I lived apart at the time but were looking for somewhere to live..it was hard, I dont know how I did it..fingers crossed you find somewhere soon

Moggmum..hope you are able to sort out the MP..£900 is a lot of money

First1..hopefully this is it for you

DH and I have given up putting Olivia in her Moses basket,...she hates it and will only sleep in her bouncy chair which has a vibrate switch (supposed to mimic being in the car)..last night we tried the basket again and she was up all night..think I will ebay the moses baskets and buy a replica bouncy chair to have upstairs!

have just sorted out all her tiny baby clothes to go on ebay as she is now in newborn

DD2 and DS2 had a spectacular headbang on the trampoline today..DD was howling for about 20 mins , but was then ok, so Im hovering over her bed every half an hour checking her breathing etc..god its stressful being a mum of five..Im such a worry wort! I now have 5 of them to worry about!(beleive it or not I still check all the DC's before going to bed..even ds1 who is 16!)

memorylapse · 18/05/2010 23:06

forgot to add congrats to Pamelat as well

Ive been admiring all the new baby piccies on fb..They are all beautiful

Hollyoaks · 19/05/2010 08:04

Morning

Congratulations Pamelat, Wibbela and Minniemummy

Still feeling rubbish here today and dd is in another foul mood so no time for personals, sorry. Hope everyone is well, and those waiting (including me) don't have too much longer.

Sassles - good luck for today

booboomonster · 19/05/2010 08:24

Hello all, what an exciting thread! Big congratulations to Wibbela, Pamelat and minniemummy!

Loads of luck and labour vibes to Carikube and Sassles! hollyoaks what bad luck being I'll when you go on mat leave. So typical in my experience. Still, maybe you can get it out of the way and be super fit for the birth!

No news here. Due a week today so not expecting anything. Trying to psyche myself up for the birth by watching (like someone else said!) old episodes of One Born Every Minute. Potty training going well except she now doesn't poo in it. Only in pants... Any tips from those of you who have done it? I've looked online and she isn't constipated or psychologically attached to them - I think it's that she genuinely doesn't know when it's coming (thinks it's a fart). Anyway, sorry if TMI!

Hope everyone has a good day - we're off to see my mum and dad and go swimming.

booboomonster · 19/05/2010 08:25

Being ill not I'll - predictive text, soz!

Hollyoaks · 19/05/2010 09:26

BooBoo - I know it's typical that I would finish work and get ill, really don't feel like going into labour or looking after a newborn feeling like this.

However, I hope I haven't become a victim of sod's law. I'v been having regular but not painful tightenings for about an hour, uncomfortable though. I also have to drop the car off at the garage this morning to change baldy tyre. Hope everything settles down.

Gils · 19/05/2010 09:39

Hi all, wow I have missed so much. Not sure the last new mums I congratulated but congrats on all the new birth announcements.

Rachel, so sorry to hear the news on your grandpa

No news hear. Was admitted on Monday to monitor contractions. Had VE which confirmed I was around 6/7 but still had lots of thining to do. Took a couple of hours of contractions during night but never came to anything. Said they wouldn't let me home but not due to be induced until Thursday. With DD at home wondering where mummy was asked if they would bring forward but no!! Whats difference between 40+10 to 40+8 its not like I wasn't due yet. Anyway student midwife thought they might just break waters if labor ward had space and told me to ask doc. Doctor did exam and sent me home AGAIN, asked about breaking waters and said they prefer they go naturally. Again at 40+8 and 6/7cm dilated whats the difference. Contractions just keep coming and going. So frustrated.

Getting induced tomorrow and I am dreading being attached to drips etc.

So sick of everyone asking about baby. Not telling anyone in RL whats going on except close family cause don't need the constant texts. So all been warned I don't want people knowing. MIL driving me up wall with her "where is this baby" and "you again" comments. Wish they would appreciate how fed up I am. 2 nights in hospital so far and no baby.

Sory for rant. Feel sorry for Dh he rushed home from work on Monday and just keeps asking how I am, can't help but snap sometimes.

Away to go get cleaned up. DH just went to his mums when I went to hospital so none of the washing/drying has been down. Got a pile of damp smelling clothes to be rewashed

AnAngelWithin · 19/05/2010 09:50

hi all. Hope you are ok.

Gils hope it all goes ok. My MIL is driving me mad too!!

Congratulations Pamelat, Wibbela and Minniemummy 10lb 11oz??? EEK!!! We should run a comp for who has the biggest baby!!!

ML is DH in a better mood now

Pigley, it's a strange feeling with your tummy isn't it!?

SK glad your first day solo went ok

Rachel good luck with the sweep. They don't do sweeps here til 41 weeks.

First1 hopefully things will start again for you

Nothing much to report here really. Just fat and fed up now really. Cleaned the house top tp bottom again yesterday. Had nothing else to do. All the washings done etc. Having probs with DH work wanting him to work late night saturday and on bank hol monday regardless of if he is on paternity leave or not

Den26 · 19/05/2010 10:19

Hi All,

Congratulations to all those with new arrivals!! Its all very exciting

Rachel - so sorry to hear about your grandad. Hope you're looking after yourself.

Nothing happening here. Just waiting. Go in to hospital tomorrow evening ready for section on fri. Think they will scan me tomorrow to make sure LO still breech - i think 'he' is, still feels very high up, sore ribs and lots of heartburn still. BH make huge hard bump under ribs Am i the first section? (apologies if i'm not, brain not absorbing new information!!)

Sending speedy vibes to all those with pains and niggles

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/05/2010 12:30

Oh Gils I really feel for you, you must be utterly miserable. Hoping it's all over soon and you can get back to some kind of normality!

Den, I don't think you're the first section, or elcs - can understand you being nervous, but I'm sure everything will be very calm and professional. Best of luck.

Pigley, I've heard good things about the Latch Assist, get your other half down Boots or Mothercare to see if they have any! Either that or if you have a breastpump you can try pumping a bit to release some pressure and draw out the nipple more. The bowling ball boob stage doesn't last too long, try cabbage leaves in your bra as others have said, and if they're really engorged try expressing in the bath after laying a very warm flannel on them.

Sympathise with everyone whose mil's are pestering with their "still there?" comments, mine is driving me bananas with it. My fb status today is "Yes, I'm still here! No, nothing's happening!" so hopefully she won't call and ask today.

Spoke to my supervisor of midwifes again today, asked her about the chances of getting an epidural and she said they were very good unless I turned up ready to push, which is understandable really! So feeling a bit calmer now. Nothing's happening at the moment though, think baby's waiting til the weekend.

rachelfruitloop · 19/05/2010 12:54

Hi Ladies!

CONGRATULATIONS to Minniemummy - that IS a big baby!! I hope the birth went well, I'd be interested to hear how it was. I think mine's going to be a whopper too, but I don't know if he'll get to that size! (famous last words!)

Cupcake I'm glad you've been updating the arrivals list so we don't lose anyone!

BooBoo about the toilet training - does she poo around the same time each day? At first I would just keep asking my DS if he'd sit on the toilet and try around the time he usually goes and he would get a chocolate button for trying (2 for actually producing the goods!). The thing that has really helped is I buy him one of those magazines with Thomas the Tank Engine or Waybuloo and whilst he sits on the toilet we do one of the activities in the magazine together while we try our "pushing" faces. I just try to be patient and make sure he sits there long enough to relax and give himself a chance to go. He loves picking out a new magazine once we've finished one, so that's sort of like a reward in itself as well.

Den good luck for your section on Friday! I think there have been a few others already so you're not alone!

Gils how frustrating!!! I would be really annoyed if I had to wait for so long. Also, the washing situation sounds very familiar!

ML well done for DTD! Sometimes you just have to go for it!

Pigley I had that same problem while BF my DS, and I agree with Carikube and James on expressing a bit and then pinching the areola between the thumb and forefinger and putting the nipple into the baby's mouth. Felt a bit like juggling at times, but once my DS had been feeding for a couple of weeks my flat nipples were much better.

Carikube I know what you mean about being impatient. Since my MIL is here I'm conscious that she's going to get bored and she wants to go visit her daughter at the end of the month so if I'm much later it's going to seem like she's going just as the baby is born. She said she'd delay her trip but it makes me feel guilty! My DS was late though, so it's not a big surprise really. Must be frustrating after you had one early!!

James I'm glad to hear that the MW said that you'll most likely be allowed to have the epidural, I was a bit worried as I also will really want an epi if being in the birthing pool isn't doing it for me!

Sending out good labour vibes to everyone waiting and healing vibes to all those recovering! BTW, we're about to head out of Taurus baby birthdays and into Gemini on Friday! May is moving on!

AliMouse · 19/05/2010 13:02

Hi All,

Thanks for the kind words Sassles, do hope it all goes well.

Feeling very chipper today, made Mr Men cakes with my 3 year old DS and had a lovely chilled morning with him. Realise I won't have that one on one time again and just trying to enjoy it.

Loving all these birth stories. I was quite scared about doing it again until very recently, but this is really helping. Very weird slowly watching everyone disappear then reappear (or not!) the 'other side' with a baby and a story. A bit like queing up to dive off the top board!

Am planning to wallow in a the boy's paddling pool if it gets any hotter. Just need to be careful the coast guard doesn't get alerted that a whale had become beached

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/05/2010 13:18

Rachel yeah, we're almost into having gemini babies! I know it's all a bit of fun but we are a family of air heads signs so I'm quite hoping she's born sometime on or after saturday as a gemini would fit in better with us than a taurus!

Forgot to say congratulations to MinnieMummy, what an eyewatering birthweight! well done you.

mollybob · 19/05/2010 13:49

Just a quick post - laptop has died so posting on phone so can't open 2 windows and do proper personals. Congrats to new mums.
Especially minniemummie - eek - that's a big baby.

Good luck with admission/scan and section den26.

Gils - doubt you'll need drips for induction as once waters go babe will probably follow pretty quickly. Fingers crossed.

So sorry about your grandpa Rachel.

Glad the supervisor of midwives was more reassuring than the silly bint you saw before James.

Well done with dtd ML - I'm looking forward to getting back to normal eventually but would be seriously scared of another pregnancy!

Booboo - had same problem with ds and pooing - he used to hide in cupboards to poo in his pants. Cured that by reading to him on the potty - eventually.

Hope you feel better soon hollyoaks - hope you're getting everything done you need to. I had so much planned for mat leave and would have cried if I hadn't got it done but as this babe is definitely going to be late I have had tons of time.

Lol alimouse!

Sympathies to all with mil hassles and the fed up.

I'm ok - ds has a study day today before his 1st year at secondary school end of year exams. They start tomorrow and finish Tuesday. Probably best for him if babe arrives after the exams but we'll see. My actual date is Saturday so not expecting much action by Tuesday anyway. His best friend's mum is due today! I'm seeing the consultant tomorrow - she might do a sweep if cervix favourable.

Sweetpeasmum · 19/05/2010 14:45

Sophie Elizabeth arrived at 0638 in the back corridor, just outside the downstairs loo. DH nearly had to deliver her but the ambulance men arrived 5 mins before she came out. Not sure why I was worried about DS witnessing early labour as he took the whole birth in his stride "Mummy's had a pee-pee and a baby". A bit James Herriot really.

As this was a VBAC I certainly hadn't planned to have her at home! I went straight from managable contractions every 10 mins to really strong ones every 2-3 mins and she was born 50 mins later.

Congrats to all the other new births and speedy vibes to all those waiting. Mind you, do you really want vibes as speedy and out of control as mine?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/05/2010 15:11

Wow sweetpeas, well done! sounds very fast and furious, glad you're both ok, how old is your ds?

Sweetpeasmum · 19/05/2010 15:56

DS is 2.6. He was at the head end trying to get me to read the Gruffalo in between contractions. I don't think he'll remember too much of the whole incident.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/05/2010 16:54

lol bless him trying to get you read the gruffalo at that moment! I'm sure he's fine and just accepted it at face value, I doubt he'll remember much, like you said!

cupcakefairy · 19/05/2010 16:57

sweetpea wow!! Congrats on the vbac I can't believe all these fast and furious birth stories! I'm sure I will be the first to come in with a 48 hour labour (although Gils yours seems to have been going on longer than that already bless you)

congrats also to minniemum! In awe of you birthing a baby that size!

rachel lol to practising pushing faces will come in useful for you too in the next few days!! And the list updating is the Monica in me coming out

James great news about the epi. If you turned up ready to push you probably wouldn't even have time to think about an epidural so sounds like you should get the birth you want

Absolutely no progress from this baby today, obviously paid no attention when told today was its due date. Dh and I will try dtd tonight!! I'm off to make more raspberry leaf tea and probably have my second nap of the day...

LuckyC · 19/05/2010 17:08

minniemummie and sweetpeasmum - well done !

sweetkitty · 19/05/2010 17:10

sweetpeasmum - wow congratulations that is some story

minniemummy - congratulations to you what a size, she looks utterly gorgeous

ML - well done on DTD I am still far too scared think it will be another 6 months weeks for us. I know what you mean about still checking on them too I will do it forever I think. Ouch on the trampoline bump.

Gils - I know what's a few days when you are SO overdue, same with me I asked to go in a day early but it had to be TERM 40 weeks exactly like one day makes a difference and EDD is just that an ESTIMATE, I don't know why they just cannot pop your waters if you are that dilated.

Alimouse - it really is the "other side" isn't it, one minute you are havily pregnant the next it seems you have a new baby and a sore fanjo

rachel - gemini babes already, we have 3 cancers, an aquarius and a leo and now a taurus in the mix.

pigley - I agree with the others re expressing some of it off before latching, when J hasn't had a feed for a while and I am engorged I pump off a mil or two to relieve the pressure. Also when you are in your tea tree bath get some hot flannels and place them on your boobs or submerge your boobs and chances are you will get a let down so just let the milk drain away. I always get let downs in the bath for some reasons it's quite amusing. I think if you can get some of the milk off before she latches and get your nipples erm erect it will help her to latch better. I always feel sorry for them when the milk is flowing too fast and they cannot keep up.

Better go dinner ready

Carikube · 19/05/2010 17:44

Congrats sweetpea! There's another birth story for me to freak DH out with He's paranoid about the whole 'giving birth on the bathroom floor' scenario.

Still nothing happening here - lots of period pains at various stages of the day and LO is also having some really active times which are quite uncomfortable. I'm starting to get fed up of people asking me where LO is. Also DD had another really bad night so I'm really thinking that she knows that something is up even if she doesn't know exactly what it is.

40+6 tomorrow and MW is coming round and going to do a sweep so we shall see if that does anything...ho hum, the waiting continues...

schipo · 19/05/2010 17:50

cupcake your monica or someone should probably make another thread - doesn't look like this one will last at all.

congratulations to pamelat, minnimummy and sweetpeasmum

still nothing doing here - I get period pain if I sit for too long, but lying down or walking gets rid of it. we even tried dtd! I'm now trying to book in for acupuncture. I don't like to think of my maternity leave being wasted without baby here.
