alexw · 17/05/2010 12:51

Afternoon all. Have just had long catch up read session. Sorry for no personals am feeling rough. Had second degree tear along scar of previous episiotomy and stitches have burst/come apart. VVV sore! Midwife who had a look this morning is not too concerned but am seeing GP tomorrow. Also was bday on Sat. Not a card, not a present, nothing from dh and dds. Feeling v sorry for self. OTOH Julia is proving to be a dream baby sleeping and feeding well. Am only up for feed once in night. Hope those still waiting don't have too much longer to go. Will post again when feeling a bit better.

AliMouse · 17/05/2010 13:40

rachelfruitloop good to hear someone else's DH is volunteering for the snip. Mine has, but didn't really have much choice! He's really really worried about it though. I can't say I'm that sympathetic...

Pigley you coped so well! I had a emergency c section after being in labour for 30hrs with DS1 and was in labour for 24 hours with DS2 so I'm assuming it'll take forever, but I guess you just don't know.

My MIL and parents are really bugging me for EXACT details of what will happen when. You'd think that hadn't had babies themselves! I've tried to supply them with possible scenarios but without the crystal ball it's a bit difficult to predict the precise timing of when I will need them to come and pick up the other boys. A case of projected anxiety me thinks - don't really need it though.

Thinking I might try reflexolgy this week - anyone else giving it a try to get things going?

sweetkitty · 17/05/2010 13:50

Oh this is SO exciting I cannot keep up

pigley - wow SO fast, my record is 1h35m fromping of waters to baby hence my request to be induced this time I didn't want a car park baby. Well done with the feeding as well and lovely names, what does your Mum think?

alexw - poor you I think I would go mad if my birthday was forgotten about, I hope they make it up to you

Heffa - I could write your post about the day and night thing another rough night with his lordship, of course this morning he slept from 5 to 10.30am why oh why can't they do that in the middle of the night? He was so unsettled at night too. DP back at work tomorrow oh and in 2 weeks finds out if he still has a job (yes he works for THAT bank's head office) am hoping to start to get some structure to our days again, Jacob will have to fit round all the school and nursery runs etc

All the ladies on the brink, all these practice contractions are doing something, won't be long now. I think we are having some super fast labours as well aren't we?

Right best be off Jacob is asleep and should be using this time to drag duster round living room, got health visitor coming tomorrow, she phoned and congratulated me, she was like my best friend

rachelfruitloop · 17/05/2010 14:07

Hi Ladies!

Ali I think my DH is hoping our GP will be doing the snip in her office as he has quite a crush on her. LOL! I have to say I can't complain much about my DH, he really steps up when needed to.

Also, not to boast but my MIL is a reflexologist and I had a treatment on Fri night, it was heavenly! But it won't work unless you're about to go anyway, so guess I wasn't ready! I still heartily recommend it though as it is a wonderful massage!

Pigley great birth story!!!!!! So glad you didn't have her in the car park!!!

Alex Happy Belated Birthday!!! Poor you being neglected by your family! I would be really upset! I hope your stitches get sorted out ok, that sounds just awful!!!

I am feeling down today, Mum says grandpa didn't have a good night and is back on breathing assistance, so should face the facts that he'll probably go soon. DH got a call from our mates last night expecting their second DC in September, there was a lung development defect found during their 20 week scan a few days ago so they will see a specialist this week but it doesn't look good. Been crying my eyes out for them. Holding out hope that something can be done, but expecting the worst.

Trying to rest as much as possible so subsequently have had an alien about to burst forth out of my tummy for most of the day! It's going to feel so weird when he's out, I think I'm going to miss all the commotion!

Hope you're all keeping well! I'll keep checking for more birth announcements!

cupcakefairy · 17/05/2010 14:50

Afternoon ladies.
pigley great birth story! There have been so many on here almost having carpark babies I'd like mine to be quick but not that quick!! I'm v glad we live 5 mins from the hospital Sounds like you coped amazingly.

alex happy birthday! So you were forgotten. But lovely to read you have a dream baby- so they do exist!

rachel so so sorry about your grandpa and your friends must be such an emotional time for you. Really hope the lung thing won't turn out to be serious. Have heard lots of stories of people being told about heart/kidney etc defects at 20 wk scan that sort themselves out before birth or can be fixed. Praying that's the case here!
Sounds heavenly about the massage!

So excited to hear news of squirt, james and anyone else almost there! Puuuuush ladies

I'm still getting period cramps on/off most of the day, quite sharp this morning but don't come to anything. A friend has just suggested to me that a sure way to get things moving is to, ahem, pleasure my dh in a certain way and ingest the after-effects!! I didn't quite know what to respond to that but don't think I'll be trying it unless I get reeeeally desperate!!

AliMouse · 17/05/2010 15:09

Hello again,

cupcakefairy I read that taken orally, the 'magic ingredient' works quicker than the other way. It's worth considering and think how indebited he will be .

I'm so crap at relaxing. I have watched an old episode of Cold Feet but feel so restless, like I should be just doing something! I'm in troub with DH as I've cleaned the oven so much that all the little markers for where the rings are and temperature have rubbed off.

It's great hearing all these stories though!

cupcakefairy · 17/05/2010 15:19

Haha, ali that is brilliant- nesting gone too far!!

Well, I'm sure dh will be willing me to go overdue if I tell him about that 'magic ingredient'!!

cupcakefairy · 17/05/2010 15:21

Oh and for anyone interested, I've uploaded a bump pic from this morning...maybe the last one??

rachelfruitloop · 17/05/2010 15:27

Cupcake I have also heard that about the 'magic ingredient' though I have not disclosed this to DH!

Ali the markers on my cooker have been rubbed off as well! I am feeling quite bored today too, but trying to enjoy it!

Pigley about the contraction timing ap, there is an ap for everything - LOL! Any ladies on FB who've seen my surname will understand why I feel so cutting edge these days - Apps sold only at the Apps Store!

rachelfruitloop · 17/05/2010 15:31

That's a mighty fine looking bump you have there, Cupcake!

Carikube · 17/05/2010 15:41

Alex happy belated birthday and that you didn't get anything.

Great birth story pigley - I just hope that mine is as speedy!

Rachel I hope that your grandpa hangs on in there to see the new baby and that your friend has good news about her baby too.

newmomma my SIL's first two DCs were back to back and she had them both naturally so you really should be ok - it might lead to a longer labour but that's about it.

My instincts this morning must have been way off as there is still no sign of anything. I had a few twinges this morning but since then everything has been boringly quiet. I've been round town, had a nap and done various bits around the kitchen etc but still not a sausage. This LO is just way too comfortable.... I might be going to see a band tonight though as DH got tickets and his friends can't go so that should be a guarantee that it all kicks off if we decide to go out

first1 · 17/05/2010 16:12

Wow lots of babies have arrived Congrats ladies! Well I'm officially due today, at last the day has arrived! Been having a bit of back ache this afternoon, mild but definitely achey, I weirdly want it to get more intense . Bet being a first timer I'll be pregnant for ages still, but hey I'm going to clutch onto any straws available!

pigley Wow! Hats off to you hun!

cupcake Re "magic ingredient": I can't convince DH for sex but maybe I'll throw that idea out there, having said that, the idea at this stage really does absolutely nothing for me!

Wishing everyone in labour strong pushing vibes!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 17/05/2010 16:23

Pigley I wish they had an app for painlessly beaming the baby out!

These pains are getting me down a bit, they're not very strong, at period pain level still, but the grottiest grinding sort of period pains - in fact, they feel just like the afterpains when you're breastfeeding! Ugh.

It still might just be braxton hicks, you'd think I'd know the second time round but without being checked for dilation to see if they're actually doing anything, I've no idea. Was hoping for a nice illuminating show like last time, but haven't had one yet. Wondering if I could go to my local midwife led unit tonight for a quick check over as it's only 5 min away and the hospital I have to go to is 30 min away. owww.

itshappenedagain · 17/05/2010 16:32

hello all!
congratulations to all those who have had their babies recently.

sorry for the lack of posting but my mum has been here and ive also had a stream of visitors from morning till night!

quick post about birth story whilst florence is a sleep and Ds is watching fireman sam!

started to get regular contractions again on friday morning bout 3 am, kept getting more regular by 330am, called nan to come and watch DS and aunts to take me to hospital and the other to come with me, also my mother who had only just gone home again after midwife telling me that morning she was booking me in for induction for the next friday.

got to hospital at 430am, was told i could go home as was only 2cm, asked could i be reassessed in a couple of hours as didnt want to be back and forward. 20mins later i she came to listen in, felt head, was checked and ready to push, 2 pushes and she was out...very glad i didnt go home or i would of had her in the aback of the car on the way home! no tears stiches or bruising and i felt ok. she fed for 45 mins after delivery, then i was up showered, dressed and ready to go home, when next midwife cam e on shift and asked where was mum , then she realised it was me since i was feeding the baby.
my mum arrived about half an hour after i had her and has only just left.
we were home by lunch time and she slept 7 hours straight the forst night, but has been up every 2.5- 3 hours through the night for the past 2 nights. she is perfect and Ds just wants to cuddle and kiss her.
she is all official as of this morning and midwife will do one more visit and we can be discharged from them onto the health vistor!

anyway ladies i will be back to normal replying soon, but im baout to make my first meal as mum of 2 alone!!!

good luk to all with due dates today and those who are over...hope it all happens for you soon!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 17/05/2010 16:41

Good grief, itshappened, can I have one of those labours, please? You make it sound so easy!

peakyispreggers · 17/05/2010 16:44

Wow, so many babies! it is so exciting, have been checking all the time for new announcements, but I cant seem to keep up!
MDM congratulations and thanks so much for such a great birth story, it gives me hope that first babies can be quick too! how are you and felix getting on now?
pigley thank goodness you made it in time, glad it went well!
cupcake love the bump pic, looking lovely and neat still. The oral ingestion method has been suggested to me too, but sounds like too much hard work, so if i get desperate i might just give him a cup..
rachel so sorry to hear about your grandpa, and your friends baby too, hope both have happy outcomes.
alex hope you start to feel better soon, and be sure DH makes up the lack of bday prezzies to you, starting with a nice bath maybe..
Anxious times yesterday, hadnt felt him move all day, cue an hour of me and DP lying on the bed waiting for a kick. Nothing. Getting abit hysterical, and thinking about going to the hospital, then a few tiny movements. Wait until 10.30 when i am so tired i could cry, and he starts doing somersaults and trying to break out. Typical. Lots of tightenings and aches, but nothing proper. Have resigned myself to going massively overdue. DPs parents flying over from ireland on my due date, so it will really feel like the pressure is on then - i might just stay in bed.

AliMouse · 17/05/2010 16:47

Carikube I am working on the sods law principle that the more things I arrange to do the stronger the liklihood that I'll go into labour.

Maybe the loud music will help to eh?

KaffaCakes · 17/05/2010 16:58

Congrats to all the new mummies! It's lovely to hear your birth stories MDM and pigley, very of your speedy births!

rachel- glad to hear your grandpa is doing better

james and schipo I'm fed up of being in the middle of it! Have barely felt a contraction since Saturday late afternoon, a few twinges here and there and more increased muscousy discharge but no proper show.

SO fed up of all the phone calls and texts- as if I wouldn't tell anyone that I had a baby! So I am going crochet mad to take mind off things and hope when things finally kick off properly it'll all go quickly and smoothly

I have changed doctor's surgery and there were no midwife appts this week for my 40 week check (due date is today!), so I rang the ante-natal clinic at the hospital and they have no appts for this week OR next! So don't know what to do really. Have the new community midwife's telephone number so maybe I should call her to see if she can come over to check me over?

Jolly fed up. Clearly Hotel Mummy is too nice to check out of for a bunch of us!

KaffaCakes · 17/05/2010 17:06

x post- Sorry rachel I hadn't got the end of the thread properly. Hope he pulls through, sending healing thoughts.

cupcake I also heard that the prostoglandins are more effective when, ahem, ingested!

Ali- I am trying to invoke sod's law too. Went to the cinema and out for brunch yesterday but nothing

Hope everyone's hanging in there, hope to have some news for you soon!

Gils · 17/05/2010 17:12

Me post. In hospital went to midwife this morning all pains have been paying of. Now 6/7cmdilated. Waters still bulging was told to come to triage as soon as contractions started. Been in since 230 this afternoon. Contractions have stopped and won't examine me till they start again. Getting so fed up of walking etc to try get them to start again.

Not posting anything on facebook as don't want rl friends knowing.

Praying contractions start again soon

AliMouse · 17/05/2010 17:25

KaffaCakes I can't believe you can't get an appointment! I have to admit, I did this first time round 11 years ago and the service really has got a lot worse. It's all rather worrying!

I didn't get booked in until about 17 weeks or get my notes until about 20 weeks this time and yet first time round I regularly saw the same 3 midwives every other week and knew one of them (all three in the end) would be there at the birth. I'm sure it all comes down to resources and priorities but I can't see it getting any better, especially now!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 17/05/2010 17:27

Oh you poor thing Gils, you could try nipple stimulation if you're tired of walking. You need to stimulate the whole area not just the end of the nipple, so try rubbing in a circular motion with your palm. Just do one at a time (doing both at once can overstimulate the uterus apparently) for 15 minutes then swap over. Hope it gets going soon, I can't imagine how fed up you must be feeling!

memorylapse · 17/05/2010 17:34

quick me post..

Kids are back..and dont I know it..Im knackered..there seems to be no time for me and Olivia now..Im just rushing around doing school runs etc and Olivia is still cluster feeding all day too..I feel tense when Im feeding her now as Im trying to sort out arguments, get drinks, food etc for the DCs all at the same time..DS keeps pestering to go clothes shopping for the rest of his prom outfit and I have bookings to organise etc...Im worn out..once DH gets in from work..Ive got to go food shopping too and DH is not helping as much now (I knew that would be shortlived).....DM said last night.."Ill come over on thursday, can we go out somewhere?" Im thinking.."sure, Ill shove a broom up my a**e too and sweep the floor while Im at it"..other mums would come over..make lunch and actually help..not my mum, she will expect to be driven somewhere and treated to lunch as per usual and will expect DD3 to just slot in with her plans....grrrrrrrr...sorry for the totally selfish and whiny post..Im just fed up of
DH (now trying to dry hump me at every chance..and yes I am now too knackered for sex)
DD1 (popping round every five mins and bringing all her uni mates and expecting to be waited on)
DS1 (generally being a lazy sod)
DMbeing no help)

GRRRRRRRR

I feel better now

AnAngelWithin · 17/05/2010 17:58

hi all. not sure I can keep up with this!!!

been to midwife today. Baby gone from being free last week to totally utterly and completely as engaged as it can get today without actually falling out! Measured 42 as well Might have to convince DH to DTD at some point! It's worked every other time for me! I had pains every 20 minutes on thursday night through the night but that was it, though it was possibly babys head engaging?? Got on the scales this morning and I have put on a grand total of....erm....9lb so far Yet my bump is HUUUUUUUUUGE!

ML do you feel better for that?!?! You know where I am if you need a rant!

gils lots of positive vibes heading your way

Congrats to all the new mummies as well.

OP posts:
rachelfruitloop · 17/05/2010 20:13

Sad news, my grandpa passed away today. Even though it wasn't unexpected, I still can't quite believe it. I'm sad I won't be able to fly to California to be with my family, but in a small way relieved that I have no choice in the matter, because if I had a very small baby I probably would have felt like baby and I should go. I'm just glad he's not suffering now. Wish I could be there for my mum and grandma, though. For now I'm going to try not to dwell on it or it will make me seriously depressed (and the situation really is unchangeable) and I need to keep my spirits up as much as possible to get through the end of this pregnancy!

Wow Angel sounds like you're about to go! 9 lbs weight gain, that's amazing! (I say as I shovel ice cream into my gob!)

Gils sounds like it's going to be very soon!! So excited for you!

James I bet you've not got much longer to go either!

Kaffa when I can't get in to see the MW I book an appointment with my GP and she's fine with seeing me. Could check with the surgery to see if that's ok?

ML I really don't know how you do it!!! Hope you can bribe DH to help out more by suggesting the possibility that you might DTD!

ItsHappened thanks for sharing your birth story!
