Hello Mums and Mums-to-be
Can I join the fed up club, even though I'm still 5 days away from due date! Woke with period-like pains for about an hour last night but then they stopped...just really want something to start happening now!

pigley I spoke to my Mum last night and it made me think of you when she started saying could I please try and hold off labour until after 3pm as it would be embarrassing for her to get a call during one of her lessons!! (She's a teacher)- honestly, Mums eh!

kaffa lol, dh managed to persuade me to DTD last night (I know, he actually still wants to ) but hasn't made anything get moving yet!!

five gosh sounds like a horrible experience but thank goodness you were in the right place for it! Hope you're recovering ok.

booboo I was really embarrassed to get the lady-garden tamed too but figured I'd rather one girl see it than however many when I have to give birth!! But if you have bikini trimmer that's ok enjoy the rest of the pampering

pamela glad your dh is better

itshappened boo to contractions stopping! Must be so frustrating!

rachel I haven't seen this bump pic but it really must be impressive! the other day at my mw apptmt the first thing she said was 'wow look at the size of that baby!' bit worrying when even the mw is taken aback by bump size!

Welcome back sweetpea

hobnob that cracked me up so much about your Mum's birth story, just popping it out and then finishing the sentence in your book haha! Brilliant.

I think pregnancies/labour probably do vaguely follow the pattern of your Mum's. I know for me my only complaints all pregnancy have been sciatica for 3 weeks and painful right hand side where lo gets under ribs which were exactly what my mum had too; my stretch marks have appeared exactly where hers did etc. So I've asked her how her labours started to give me an idea and she said 3 were a bloody show and the last one was waters breaking a bit dramatically. So I'm on the lookout for those!

Got a friend visiting with her 3 month old today so maybe some baby vibes will get lo moving

sweetkitty · 14/05/2010 13:23

Just a quick one from me to reassure first1 and others scared about giving birth to a whopper. So this morning I took Jacob to toddlers where he was joined by a 5 day old 10lbs 6ozs baby born naturally

One mum said her boy was 10lbs 13ozs and she had him naturally as well!

Sassles · 14/05/2010 13:25

Hi All,

Been reading the posts, but had not much to say except, Yip, still here, so been keeping quiet! Got the works today at consult appointment so finally have something worth talking about!

Five Congrats. Hope that you are are both doing well after your ordeal.

MDM Congrats to you too!

squirtsmum feeling your pain. I'm 41 weeks tomorrow and nada happening here. At least you have induction date now. End in sight! Hoping scan went well.

first1 I am prob looking at big baby too. Growth scan at 36 weeks said 6 pounds 12. I was horrified. Will mean we will have good robust babies though!

Carikube Happy due date. I had sweep today (more below) Really wasn't too bad & hoping things kick off. Glad HB is back to normal.

Moggmum I had exactly same thing. Baby great position for weeks and at 39 & 40 week appoint was told back to back. Not much fun trying to get baby in right position when all you want to do is slob out on the sofa. Good news today was that baby has swung back round, but think he is swinging all over the place as I felt his back at my leftside last night, but was at right side today. Think when I turn over at night I can feel him swinging around. Try not to get too obsessed with it as I was quite upset and think there will be plenty time in early labour on hands and knees to get baba in right position.

cupcake Think you might be right about this labour like mum thing. My mum was induced with my sis as really late and then was really overdue with me. I was due on 26th Dec and didn't come till 13th Jan. They left her so late as this was over hol period and was coldest time ever and they were snowed in for days! When it all kicked off the locks on the car were frozen and my dad found my grampa with his lighter at the paintwork on dad's car to try and unfreeze the lock! Glad this is a May baby!

My news is now 6 days overdue and not a sausage here at all. Had consultant appointment and got the useless one. For me main thing was knowing if head was engaged yet and if still back to back, but he couldn't tell. He even said, not sure if it is a head or a bum down there!!

He said no point in sweep as head not enaged, but went away to discuss my notes with a colleague. I was sitting feeling very frustrated that this was 41 week appoint and had BP taken and a wee belly feel only with no conclusions.

He then came back in and said, right we're doing a sweep and booking you in for induction on Wed.

Sweep - Was dreading this, but was really not too bad. Worst bit for me and poor DH was him gesturing what he was going to be doing and then showing us the glove after it! Was bit uncomfy, but anyone else due one, it was really not too bad. Sorest bit was actually pressing on my stomach a bit during. Hope this kicks things off!

We then went for a CTG and bump kept moving away from sensor, but all was normal there. Got the midwife doing it to have a good feel at positioning and she said head was engaged and not back to back anymore! Yay! However, when trying to locate hearbeat, they finally found it really high up and she started being concerned that baby maybe was breech after all!

So, we then went for a scan. All normal, head in right place, but think baby is BIG as heartbeat so high up. Awesome.

Going in to the ward on Wed at 1.30 for induciton if nothing hapens between now & then, so end in sight at least.

Whew! Sorry for mammoth post! Hope all babies doing well and mummies to be doing ok. All in the overdue club, we don;t have too much longer. Hang in there!!
S x

pamelat · 14/05/2010 13:39

Hello all,

sassles hope the sweep gets things moving. My midwife is coming to my house on Weds (if no baby) to do one as will be 41 weeks then.

I have felt odd all day. LO is moving at times when he isn't normally, he seems constantly awake and period pains now for about 4 hours. I have a strange sensation of pressing down, am wondering if its because babys head has not been engaged and may now be engaging. I have no idea!! Definately not contractions as doesn't hurt, more occassionally sharp?????

DD is being such a star that I think I must be giving off mummsy calming hormones, she has just cuddled for most of the morning and gone to sleep (!) I thought that with such a sedate morning at home (we hardly ever do that) she would be wide awake all day.

pigleychez · 14/05/2010 13:41

Hollyoaks- Enjoy your last day before ML

Pamlet- My mums story seems to change everytime we discuss her labours. Ive been early then late, labour of 24 hours but last night it was 8 hours? Who knows!

SK- I still have trouble working out DD's eyes! Somedays they look darker than others.

Squirts- Good luck for the scan.

Booboo- My DD is another one who is suddenly giving me kisses and cuddles. Not that im complaining They must be more sentitive to it that we give them credit for.

First- Sorry you were scared like that

Carikube- Glad that LO heartbeat is better now

Mogg- How annoying that baby is now back to back... My DD did that right at the last minute after being correct for ages.

Sweatpea- Not experienced it yet myself but Im guessing like the others that it wont be tooooo bad to start off with. Think I might resort to sticking a peppa pig DVD on and disappear into the other room untill childcare/help arrives. I can call my DH who is 15mins away so he will soon be home to help out and occupy her untill my mum turns up.

Been busy all morning, cleaning like a crazy woman. Ive been on hands and knees scrubbing the floors. DD has been "helping" me with the dusting and tidying. Have a friend coming round this afternoon with her DS.

DH reckons we will have a baby this weekend.. Im not so sure although it sounds like a great plan

Baby has been making some very odd noises in there the past few days!! When it moves around/ or I do, you can hear funny sloshing, gurgling or popping noises! They are really loud and embarrasing. Keep expecting my waters to suddenly pop when I hear that noise.

Hollyoaks · 14/05/2010 13:47

Hi

Nearly finished work, as the kids are doing a timed essay under exam conditions I thought I would pop on and check for updates

Sweetpea - welcome back

Overdue mams - i went slightly early with dd so have never experienced it but it sounds rubbish, hope things kick of soon.

Cupcake/myfirst - most of my immediate family had had really normal births so I naively thought I would be the same. I think it woud have been had dd not had the cord round her neck, totally unpredictable, but the assisted delivary was a bit of a shock. Be prepared for all outcomes and you can't be disappointed. I'm sure it will all be straight forward though.

big babies - at my antenatal class yesterday the mw mentioned an 11lb baby born naturally at our local hospital, it can be done.

sweetkitty · 14/05/2010 13:55

On Mother's labours well mine of course was far from straightforward, I was born at 34 weeks, a placental abruption although I was delivered naturally my Mum cannot remember me being born and spent 3 days in bed unable to see me after I was born as she had to have about 158 pints of blood as she nearly died. I have had the tales of her waking up bleeding, struggling round to my Aunts house 5 mins away (didn't have a phone) to be bluelighted to hospital and the docs telling my Dad we both might not make it. I stayed in hospital 6 weeks after she did. Maybe my difficult birth was the start of us never bonding?

My brother of course came in 2 hours completely naturally, my Dad saw it all this time and they both cried when he was a boy

mollybob · 14/05/2010 17:16

Quick post re mother's and labour - my Mum is 4 ft 11 and was born with a hip abnormality that wasn't picked up and as a result her L leg is 6 inch shorter than her R and the L side of her pelvis is knackered. She had an EMCS with my brother and x2 ELCS with me and other brother. I take after my Dad's side of family - I'm 5ft6 and have childbearing hips and have had a completely different experience with x2 normal deliveries. The size of babies is mostly determined by the father's DNA and me and my siblings were all 9 lb or so, no wonder Mum struggled. My mum's MIL was a total bitch and stated that she wasn't a real woman for having not given birth properly...

booboomonster · 14/05/2010 17:37

sweetpea good question about how children will cope if they see us in labour - was wondering same. I am just hoping it?s a slow progression thing so that by the time things start to get really painful someone else will be here?.

hobnob your mum?s story made me laugh too - my mum is same - apparantly my younger brother?s birth really didn?t hurt that much at all. And with me she was in labour for 5 days?. what-ever! I am sort of hanging onto the younger brother?s birth story though just in case - it makes me feel a bit better? here?s hoping! I think there is some genetic link too, though her first (my older bro) was result of induction due to pre eclampsia and she was given heroin and morphine - she can?t remember a thing about it apart from that it was the most amazing feeling ever!!! mollybob that?s interesting about father?s determining the size of babies - my DH and his sisters are all quite small so I like that sound of that.

sassles glad your sweep wasn?t too bad, never had one so good to know it?s not too awful. Hope it gets some results!

Pamalat could it be that you are in for one of these pain free births our mothers keep telling us about?! I hope so! keep us posted if anything starts to happen!

Hollyoaks hurrah for mat leave - you?ve done so well to last this long, hope you get a chance to put your feet up before things start to happen!

Had my hair done today as it?s DD nursery day - and watched a film this afternoon so feel very chilled out. Hope those overdue get some results soon!

memorylapse · 14/05/2010 17:56

quick post.as Im up to my eyes in it today..taking bookings, doing booking forms etc..Ive posted a thread asking how soon can I . resume normal service with DH as it were..only one reply and it seems Im unusual in wanting to get back in the saddle so soon..but I feel great, no stitches, nothing..but even 4 weeks on Im still bleeding so I guess I have to wait for it to stop?/ I feel a tad sorry for DH as it was banned during my pregnancy due to bleeding etc..and I think Id have had a heart attack or something if Id attempted it.....

I will try and catch up with the thread at some point but DD has been really fussy today, feeding on and off all day and not settling

KaffaCakes · 14/05/2010 18:26

Pamelat having same sensations as you!
Had definite mild contractions about 2 and a half hours ago, now lower back and regular tightenings, every half hour or so and feel baby pressing right into my lower abdomen. And I feel a bit sick too. Hope this is the start! Bump is rock hard too, is this A Good Thing? Feel really rather uncomfortable but no major pains. Been for a long walk this afternoon with my sister around town, last night's pineapple chomping seemed to result in bad acid reflux throughout the night! Yuck.

AnAngelWithin · 14/05/2010 18:32

hello all. Hope you are well.

ml entirely up to you when you resume normal service!! everyones different!!! After ds2, we only waited about 2 weeks

Had awful headache last night (start of a migraine i think) so i actually just took 1 co-codamol and went to bed. I actually SLEPT! all night!!!

I've had a bloody discharge today (sorry tmi!) but not any kind of mucous or anything, but hopefully things are on the move soon. Baby feels like its grating low down.

Ouch on the big babies....they seem to think mine will be a little elephant

OP posts:
memorylapse · 14/05/2010 18:38

Angel..do you mind me asking..were you still bleeding when you got back in the saddle after DS2?

Hobnobfanatic · 14/05/2010 18:41

Angel = I had the same thing: blood in my pants at 10pm, but no mucus or contractions. Baby born five and a half hours later! Good luck!

brightredballoon · 14/05/2010 18:47

hi everyone

getting good vibes off all these sweeps , think there is going to be a baby boom on this thread! Talking of which, found out 2 of my friends are due on Boxing Day and another on 13th December!

My mums births - first was EMCS with vertical cut followed by 7 natural births no tears or assistance! MIL (i use that term losely as she isnt part of our life anymore) had 4 natural births but all with episiotomies as was the thing at the hospital at the time.

I have started driving now and it feels wonderful to have my independence back. I am taking things slowly though and they are short journeys alone or with baby or with my 4yr old (2yr old sprints off, I cant run after him yet!).

DD2 is feeding as i type, her wee nose is so cute as I look down to her, its taking me longer to find all the nooks and crannys on her as have to divide my time between three of them! Goodness knows how you girls with even more share your time!

Post natal girls, how are you feeling? I dont think I feel too tired as my other two haven't really slept through the night (for one reason or the other, be it a toilet trip or night terror or teething etc). However I do notice come early evening I am shattered and devoid of all energy which is when I cave into the biscuit tin or chocolate box which is something I need to stop as have now put ON 8lbs!! Oh my goodness!!!!!

AnAngelWithin · 14/05/2010 19:02

ml a little but not too bad. Everyones different though, not everyone is ok with it. Like some people dont mind having sex during a period I suppose.

Hobnob, I can but hope!!! I think this baby will be here for a while yet!!

OP posts:
memorylapse · 14/05/2010 19:41

BRB..as a post natal lady...I can honestly say I feel better than I did when pregnant..but I am shattered!

Angel..am more worried about getting an infection..maybe will wait until it stops

pamelat · 14/05/2010 19:41

kaffa yes thats exactly how I feel and my stomach is rock hard and my veins are quite visible, ok really ugly and purple (!),in my boobs and upper tum. I even called DH to come and take a look as it was so digusting, they have gone down a bit now.

From everything I have googled, internet would appear to think these are just more braxton hicks ... boo hoo.

Gils · 14/05/2010 21:19

Hopefully we will be getting a baby boom very soon. With everyone posting about twinges/sweeps! Quite a few of us now overdue.

I am getting some tightenings tonight so keeping fingers crossed. Have kinda gave in to idea I will be 10 days over and induced. I was 11 days with DD!!

DH went back to work today but his work have been good and he is almost working on the doorstep, even came home tonight to sleep. Woo hoo.

Pamelat/Kaffa/AnAngelwithin - I have my fingers crossed for you and anyone else lurking who is feeling like "this could be it!!"

BRB hoping to be joining you soon on typing and feeding at same time. I am stil driving just now but remember after DD didn't feel very confident

ML think we were relatively soon after but bleeding had stopped

Moggmum sorry they are now saying back to back. I was told the same on Monday so will need to wait and see if baby has turned

My DD also quite clingy. Loads of cuddles and kisses. Looking forward to "her baby" arriving.

Feel quite lucky to have the support around me I have. MIL is very ill just now but would still drop everything to come up and sit with DD. She stays 2 min car drive away. My mum, sister and in laws are all the same. Sorry some f you do not have that support

Must go attempting a hot curry tonight

Gils · 14/05/2010 22:38

OMG has anyone suffered sciatica in late pregnancy?? I can barely move tonight.

Debating whether to phone hospital. Getting tightenings across stomach but almost everytime I move tonight I get a shooting pain through my right side. Not experiencing a lot of bearing down and baby is making some waky movements.

sweetkitty · 14/05/2010 22:46

hi ladies Jacob sleeping so got 10 mins before going to bed, took him to toddlers to show him off and as I said there was a 5 day old 10lbs 6ozs boy there so made Jacob look little.

ML - cannot believe you want to get back into the saddle. Even my DP said we are waiting longer than the 6 weeks this time. I am still quite sore downstairs, I was brave and had a erm feel in the bath the other night and everything feels weird and swollen still. I had a second degree tear up on my erm anal area so things are pretty nasty down there. Coupled with the SPD taking ages to go I'm feeling a bit bruised and battered still.

The V word has been mentioned to DP bless him think it's only fair given I have had four babies and we are now definitely finished with babies.

Gils - I keep logging on to see if there are any more babies, there must be some with all the inductions and CSs

BRB - well done on starting to drive again, I haven't even driven yet as DP has been at home. Sleep deprivation kicking in now, Jacob likes to get up and look about himself at 3 in the morning, as much as I love him I want to sleep.

angel - glad you had a good nights sleep, I have been cocodamol free for 2 days now, first time in about 4 months too

Mother labours are funny aren't they, I cannot believe it was all shaved, enema, epi's, labour on back, then baby off to nursery, brought to you every 4 hours for a bottle (unless you were one of those BFing freaks), oh MWs fed them overnight to allow you to rest, 10 days in hospital, not allowed out of bed apart to go to the smoking room

sassles - poor you being that overdue hope things kick off for you soon but at least induction means end is in sight

There are so many of you sitting on the cusp isn't there?

Pamelat - I keep thinking you are going to go soon too

When I was having a HB with DD3 I told the other 2 (DD2 was only 2 1/2) that they might hear things like Mummy shouting but that helped me get the baby out and it was all fine. They are now obsessed with where the baby comes out a special door in your "girly bits" and that Mummy has to push the baby out.

Moggmum - aww poor you don't worry too much about position these babies seem to whirl about a bit

Better go young man is stirring

rachelfruitloop · 14/05/2010 23:00

gils i am suffering from sciatica as well, my left leg keeps going numb! Not nice! brb thanks for sending the pads, they arrived yesterday! I'm laying in bed typing this on my mobile so sorry for lack of paragraphs! MIL gave me a lovely reflexology treatment tonight to try to trigger labour, feeling tons of movement from baby, but we'll see what happens!

kateyjane · 14/05/2010 23:33

Hello everyone

We're finally home!
Thomas Edward was born at 11.29 on Wednesday 12/05/10 weighing 7 pounds 12oz. After spending the first night in special care we had to stay until today to make sure he was okay. Glad to say he's doing really well now, breastfeeding fine and his sisters and brother adore him. We are very happy to be back home.

Sorry for no personals, will read and try to catch up with everything tomorrow - looks like it's been busy!

memorylapse · 14/05/2010 23:47

SK..ouch that sounds nasty..Im not surprised you feel sore and bruised...
I must confess that because DD came out with 2 pushes and I didnt tear or anything..downstairs has felt ok..but after DS2...I honestly couldnt face the thought of it ever again..I had a third degree tear and prolapsed piles..I couldnt even walk in a straight line for 3 months let alone have sex

memorylapse · 14/05/2010 23:52

oh by the way..congrats Kateyjane..he was a good weight for 37 weeks, Olivia was weighed on weds and she weighs 7lb 12 now
